Came here with my friends to celebrate my hubby and friend’s birthday. It was our first time here. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I love the bone marrow toast and Maine scallops. It was full of flavors. It’s a must try. The beef Wellington was cooked perfect but I prefer the tomahawk ribeye with the pickled shallots and roasted garlic. The baked Alaska was a bit was ok. I did enjoy the presentation of the dessert but not so much the dessert itself. We definitely enjoy the food and will be back to check out other items on the menu. The only downside was finding parking in center city can be quite a challenge.

*A beautiful boutique steakhouse in Philadelphia* (yes it’s small but don’t let that fool you) For those that are new to the restaurant, look for a rose on the exterior wall and then don’t forget to ring the doorbell (yes, it’s a thing!). The wait staff was so thoughtful and kind (we just got engaged and brought us some bubbles to celebrate). They even shared their sister restaurant’s spicy Asian sauce (great for seafood) and their house steakhouse. We got the gulf shrimp appetizer (large and flavorful), four pieces total. For our main, we split the porterhouse and got grilled asparagus (smokey, topped with Parmesan) and the beer-battered onion rings (these ARE amazing. A must-get!). To finish, the bakes Alaska was served table side in flambé fashion. While the meat we had wasn’t perfect, the manager and staff were fantastic and made our evening so special. We’ll be back!

Thank you so much for making my fiances' birthday one she will never forget. From the greeter to the servers and even to the general manager who took the time to come over to the table to show us love. Thank you from the bottom my heart. We truly enjoyed the food and outstanding atmosphere. Much Love❤

An amazing, intimate experience from the Schulson collection. Awesome assortment of cocktails, the dinner menu is awesome. If you want a steak, this is a different experience than the traditional one. But the best aspect of Alpen Rose is the staff. Everyone is reading your mind and if you have the pleasure of having Julio for your evening, you won't have a better experience.

Had an absolutely amazing meal here. The entire experience was fun, from ringing the doorbell when we arrived to hanging out at the bar and taking in the ambiance of the small and intimate space. We had the bone marrow with pork cheek (delicious), tomahawk, Mac and cheese, charred broccoli, and Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and the cocktails were amazing. Saw a few tables get a drink that was served table side with the server pouring fire between two cups. We finished with the baked Alaska which was also served flaming!

This restaurant was absolutely stunning! My boyfriend reserved a table for us for our anniversary, knowing that I am a steak loving girl. The entry to the restaurant was hilariously mysterious and incredibly low-key. Everything about our time here was an experience. Super romantic and intimate. Food was PHENOMENAL! Finding a great steak in the Philadelphia area can sometimes feel impossible for me. However, the cut, sauce, and cooking was literal perfection! Chefs. Kiss. Thank you so much for a wonderful anniversary. We really did have a splendid time here ❤️

It's a small boutique place. But outstanding in terms of food and service. The place can feel small and crowded but that's by choice and design I think. The service and food are truly outstanding. They just have 2 wait staff, 1 serving staff and the manager as the guest interfacing people again by design given their small size and all of them are great. We got the bone marrow toast that everyone gets and it was amazing. For the main course we shared a tomahawk steak and beef Wellington along with asparagus and potato hash with cream as our sides. Everything was great with the potatoes being somewhat sub par than expected. The meat quality was just fantastic. The server also recommended a very good Italian red to me to pair with the food. We were originally reserved for the bar and last minute the manager helped upgrade us to the main dining room which was great and very kind of her. Overall it was an amazing experience. I was not a huge believer in boutique steakhouse restaurants but I think Alpen Rose is certainly an exception. It's on the pricier side but a great place for special occasions and celebrations.

Can't beat the ambience for a romantic night out. Good selection of cocktails, excellent beef Wellington and enjoyed their baked alaskan dessert. Servers were attentive and offered good suggestions that did not disappoint. The door is easy to miss, there is no sign , look for a door with a gold rose. Love the speakeasy vibes and elegant overall feel. Despite a previous reviewer saying its more suited for couples, there was a party of 6 seated comfortably next to us . Definitely make reservations ahead of time since It's such a small spot with only 12 tables I believe. There is an abundance of parking lots nearby but we liked the one about 400 feet from here next to the Holiday inn hotel. Thanks for a lovely Valentines. Can't wait to return.

Absolutely amazing experience dining here. Great for a special occasion. I loved the intimate vibe with unique, library-inspired design. Service was excellent, our waitress was very knowledgeable on every item on the menu! Food and cocktails were amazing of course. The sundae on the dessert menu blew us away and was the thanksgiving table topic the following weekend. 10/10!

I can’t give it 5 stars cause the waiter lost me in the end. It was my birthday but that’s not why we ate there and I asked for a sparkler and he didn’t give me one with my dessert. He didn’t think it was actually my birthday and thought I was just trying to get attention.. Otherwise YES EAT HERE! Eat here everyday if you can!! We came across this on accident. We had reservations at a restaurant near and the food appeared mid so we took off in search for better. We stumbled upon Alpen rose.. we couldn’t get in the door and then a square opened and a man (named Jerome) told us that we couldn’t get in!! Meeee! I have never! 🤣 Apparently this was a fancy smansy place w limited seating. Jerome was not dismissive and I was intrigued so we made reservations for the next night! It only has 12 tables and 4 seats at the bar. We ordered Bone marrow toast Bacon Rib eye Beef Wellington Creamed corn Creamed spinach And were given mashed potatoes Baked Alaskan for dessert The bone marrow though delicious was NOT needed. The beef cheek on the toast was amazing!! We would have paid for that alone!! The bacon was just one slice.. it was thick and prepared well but.. just bacon (delicious) The beef Wellington was prepared in excellence! We marveled at its beauty and then after it was cut how the crust was flaky and perfect and buttery and delicious while the beef was cooked to perfection!! Every flavor was separate and perfect as if a magician who loved food had prepared it! It also came with the bone marrow sauce that made me want to shout!! Literally get up and run circles!! The rib eye was just as magnificent!! I have never had a perfectly med rare rib eye until this day! The color! The texture! The taste! OH MY! I was in absolute heaven with every bite! The garlic on the side rubbbed into the steak like butter. Was it needed? No! But it didn’t hurt!! The creamed corn was done so well. The sweetness came from the corn. The kernels had a crunch to them but not where it was under done. Just so you knew you were eating fresh corn! The cream didn’t overwhelm it. It was just the way it should be! The creamed spinach was CREAMED SPINACH! oh wow! It tastes so fresh and clean! I am not sure how they got the flavor the way it was. I tasted cream and spinach. Neither more than the other. They complimented each other like life long friends! The potatoes were good. We just took a bite. Real potatoes. Lots of butter. Whipped to perfection! The waiter suggested we place this sauce on the table on them.. the sauce was tart and took away from the foods perfection. Please note to eat this food as it comes. The chef knows what he is doing! Lastly the baked Alaskan which was pineapple.. I absolutely loved the flavors. The cherry sorbet inside! The fresh pineapple . The coconut cream! Wow! I wish they could do this w a rum that tasted less rum-my 😂 I don’t drink alcohol! If so I would have eaten it all! It was soooooo good!! This will be a staple when we return to Philly for every work trip!!

We loved our visit to Alpen Rose. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was super friendly and helpful. And everyone was super attentive to our needs. The food and drinks were really good too. The reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 star was because two of the items we ordered underwhelmed. We ordered shrimp cocktail and grilled octopus for appetizers. The shrimp was amazing, but the Octopus wasn't that great. There was very little octopus on the plate, and way more potatoes. It was good, but not worth the price. We also ordered Mac and Cheese and grilled asparagus as sides, and both were great! We also ordered the bone in ribeye, which was the 2nd item that underwhelmed. We ordered it medium, and we got at best, medium-well. It still tasted good, but for $78, we expected a steak cooked to our liking. And finally we ordered the baked Alaska which was tremendous, a must eat when visiting.

Great ambiance and food. The server was attentive and overall the food was really good. The inly complaint is that for both entrees we asked for medium and as you can see from the photo the beef wellington was overcooked so it was a little tough. But the steak above was amazing! Would definitely recommend coming here rather than any of the other steakhouses in philly

The food was phenomenal! We had the bone marrow toast, octopus, and oysters to start. We had the tomahawk steak, duck and Bronzino for our entrees with Mac & cheese, fries, and mushrooms as sides. Everything was great. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere was cute! You press a doorbell to enter, cute porcelain plates, books lining the walls- very Alice in wonderland vibes

Tomahawk steak was done at medium and it was cooked well. Juicy and enough fat was rendered out but not overcooked. One of the better steaks I’ve had. Beef Wellington was just okay. Always wanted to try one and overall was just a bit bland. But it was a good quality cut of meat! The bone marrow toast was an experience. Nothing like a side of meat to my main entree of meat. It was good and seasoned very well. It’s hard to describe it to a comparison but it’s definitely worth getting again. The service and quality of food are great. It’s also a very intimate space. Would go back again but only for special occasions.

One of my favorite restaurants in Philly! I’ve come for multiple birthdays now. They make great cocktails, well executed, I went with No.33 (like a cucumber margarita), No.17 (like an aperol spritz), and the grasshopper at dessert. The bone marrow toast, shrimp cocktail, beet salad were nice, but what really stood out to me were the Beef Wellington and mac and cheese. I loved the sauce that came with the Wellington, and the meat was super tender and juicy and fit in perfectly with the pastry. The Mac and cheese is so good, this is the only restaurant I’ve ordered a side to go multiple times. Plus, the house bbq and chili sauces are addicting, I wish I could buy them to go! The apple pie was good too, although the pie is so big that I wish there would be enough ice cream for each bite. The service was friendly, helpful, and quick. Would come here for any special occasion and highly recommend to others.

I love the atmosphere, the service, and the variety of the food here... But I can't help but say for the money that the quality of the food wasn't a hit. If you want to really impress a date this place has it all but if you've been to a lot of steakhouses... there is much left to be desired for the price. Take it for what it is, a quaint little speakeasy-style restaurant with a nice selection of meats but the dry-aged beef was a total miss compared to steak at home or capital grille as much as it pains me to say. Overall I liked it I just can't give the food anymore than a 3. Maybe if it was higher than room temp I'd go 4 but that certainly didn't help.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were VIP. Our reservation was for 9:15. We arrived early, so the general manager came out and offered us a seat at the bar in their sister restaurant next door, The Double Knot, while we waited. I was really wowed by the fact that the manager walked us through the connecting kitchen of the restaurants to get to the bar. Everything was incredibly clean and neat. I can appreciate a restaurant that is so transparent. We got 2 cocktails while we waited. The manager came back to get us right around 9:10 and sat us at our table. The GM checked my coat for me. Because it’s such an intimate setting, I didn’t even need to ask for my coat or go anywhere to get it, the waiter knew it was mine and brought it to me before we left. Our waiter was awesome, friendly and knowledgeable. For appetizers we had oysters and the bone marrow toast. I highly recommend the toast, as did the waiter. For our entrees we had a bone-in tomahawk steak and a beef Wellington. Both were insanely good. I would say the only shortfall is their sides. We ordered Mac and cheese, mushrooms and grilled asparagus. We sent back the mushrooms - there was a weird, citrusy flavor. The Mac and cheese was very very salty. The asparagus was a little bit undercooked, so I had them sent back to be cooked longer. I would go back and give a different set of sides a try. Overall, it was a really special experience. It’s a very intimate, romantic setting. The restaurant is small, but there was no hustle and bustle and nothing felt crowded. If you’re looking for a sexy, romantic place to go for an anniversary or a birthday I would definitely recommend Alpen Rose.

If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience in downtown Philadelphia, look no further than Alpen Rose. I had the pleasure of dining there yesterday and I can confidently say that it's one of the best restaurants in the city. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed and valued. We had reservations at 10:45pm and were the last ones to leave, yet the staff was more than happy to let us stay as long as we wanted. It was like having the restaurant all to ourselves! The entire staff was polite, accommodating, and genuinely happy to be there, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with books, velvet curtains, and comfortable leather seats that added to the cozy atmosphere. But what really stood out to me was the bartender's impressive skills when making our drinks, including the No.8 cocktail, which was absolutely delicious. The bartender was engaging and entertaining, and his mastery of handling fire made the experience even more memorable. Overall, I would rate Alpen Rose 15/10 - it's a must-visit for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in Philadelphia. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable night out.

Hands down the most phenomenal experience I've had. Amazing drinks (#3 and #112), food (the butterflied filet and rack of lamb were amazing), and dessert. No complaints here, everything was amazing. Our waiter Julio was the man, making great suggestions. The experience was well worth the price!

Went for our 7 year anniversary and I surprised my girlfriend with a proposal. We had a wonderful time and we shared the bone marrow toast, clover rolls, porterhouse steak, Mac and cheese, cream spinach, and a baked Alaskan. The staff was amazing and the ambiance was perfect for our romantic night. I was messaging the manager before our dinner and they were able to have a bottle of champagne at the table for us when we came in. I would recommended coming in just to try and we will definitely be back!

The service here is outstanding. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and they really cared about your enjoyment of what you ordered. I started off with the beef tartare, and while good, I was disappointed that there was no egg yolk. The tomahawk and mushrooms were cooked to perfection and we enjoyed every bite of those! The bone marrow toast was very sweet, something I wasn’t expecting. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t my thing. They offered to take it off, but we had already eaten half of of so I didn’t feel right sending it back. The manager insisted dessert was on them to make up for it, which was such a nice gesture. We opted for the baked Alaska, which was good on the inside, but the outside tasted like a very strong shot of alcohol, so if you’re like me and do not like alcohol, I’d go for something else. Overall, this place is great and we would go back for the steak!

We had an amazing first time experience here celebrating our anniversary. Jonathan was our server and he was excellent, very warm, attentive, thorough, knowledgeable. All the food we ordered was excellent. Highly recommend the beef Wellington and bone marrow toast. Cocktails were delicious, too. Manager Christine and the rest of the staff were friendly and attentive, as well.

Exceptional restaurant across the board. A small boutique steakhouse with a doorbell ring needed for entry (15 or so tables and a few bar seats). The décor and atmosphere were beautiful, calm relaxed environment (not too noisy, wonderful staff, and fun to see the chefs hard at work just a few feet away. My boyfriend and I ordered the aged Ribeye and Beef Wellington, both excellent prime cuts of meat. The Beef Wellington in particular was outstanding (and a unique dish to find in a steakhouse). The appetizers, sides, drinks, and desserts were all outstanding. Highly recommend this spot for a beautiful steakhouse experience. One of the many culinary gems in Philadelphia!

My husband and I had dinner here on 4/10/23 and LOVED every second of our experience. The restaurant is cozy and charming, and we liked that we could peek into the kitchen, see the chefs working, and enjoy the crackling fire through the window. The hostess Madison (ugh I am so sorry if I did not get her name right) and our server Robbie were fantastic. Robbie gave us great suggestions, was attentive and friendly. Everyone was wonderful, honestly. I had the no 76 drink, and my husband had the no 8, both were delicious and strong. We started with the raw oysters, so juicy & fresh - try the hot sauce on them - yea! Then the star of the show arrived - the bone marrow toast... Life changing. Melted in our mouths. For mains, my husband had the duck which was on the sweeter side, but still tender and nice. I had the beef wellington and enjoyed every bite. We shared French fries as well, and found them to be a bit salty for our taste, but still delicious. We were pretty full by dessert, so we asked for a little bowl of vanilla ice cream that they gladly served us. Alpen Rose feels like a special occasion type of restaurant, but honestly I feel like we could go back and just chill at the bar for a while. We loved our experience and will definitely be back. Thank you!

Love this place ❤️. Celebrated my birthday & Jonathan our server was amazing. Booking in advance is required of you want table seating. Bone marrow toast was delicious. Beef wellington was tender.

Awesome experience from start to finish. My ribeye was perfect, and so was my wife's beef wellington. My only complaint is that buzzer on the doorbell. We were close to the door, being that this is a small restaurant, and I'm sure they could have a more pleasant chime than the busses beater in the NBA. However, this is not a big enough reason to keep me from returning. Staff and food were top teir. Must try.

One of the best dining experiences ever! From having to ring the bell for entrance, to the attention from everyone working, to the food that was out of this world. Thank you for making my wife's birthday one she will not forget! The ambiance and food make this a must try place to go if at all possible. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend. Went there for birthday dinner. The whole secret, speakeasy style was very unique. Imagine having an amazing dinner in a classy, gothic library, this is the place for you. Get service.

It’s a classic steakhouse that somehow has bland, tasteless steak. Supposedly, the beef is dry aged but had none of the depth and richness of flavor you’d expect. It was like $60 meat tofu. Everything else from the sides to the service to the decor is amazing, though. Fantastic drinks, too. I’d go back to hang at the bar anytime but save your money and skip the beef.

The best restaurant experience I’ve ever had in my entire life! The most delicious steak I’ve ever eaten, cooked to perfection. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The cocktails were just as phenomenal as the food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is second to none. Don, our waiter, was an absolute pleasure. We will be returning sooner than later! Easily the #1 restaurant in Philadelphia and better than any steakhouse I’ve visited in NYC.

  • 5/5 Florian S. 2 years ago on Google
What a great hidden (literally) gem in Philly. To start out find your way through an unmarked door (got to ring the doorbell) to be let inside. The place is very quaint and chic decorated giving it a cozy ambiance. As a single guest took a seat at the bar. Dan the Barkeeper made the evening even better beyond the food with delicious hand crafted cocktails. To the food - amazing. The bone marrow toast and the dry aged NY strip were absolutely delicious. Try the espresso martini after your meal - you won‘t regret it. The one negative point - the wine list is rather light on good red wines, especially by the glas. If you don’t want an entire bottle you are currently stuck with a small mix of rather young reds. This would be a nice improvement area! Overall definitely will be back!

We started with the bone marrow toast, and the bread ( forgot to picture ). They were both great. The 8 Oz filet and porterhouse came out cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Mac & Cheese was ridiculous . Love it here. Highly recommend .

The steak was great, so was the onion rings. The beef Wellington was not bad, it’s not Ramsay Gordon but still one of the better ones around here. The sides was superb but bone marrow was lackluster. A bit sweet and salty for my taste.
