This should be a bigger red flag, but it seems to be the norm. This is perpetuated by the fact that the facility is almost always overcrowded. Fix the serious crowding and unsafe kids running under climbers and the place is amazing--if overpriced.

Had heard some pretty great things about this place, & was looking forward to climbing there, but was actually pretty disappointed. Maybe I’m just getting old, but it felt like it was geared towards little kids. I also wasn’t impressed with the few routes that they did have. The route setting felt kind of lazy & also geared mostly towards taller climbers (aka, not creative). They also require you to use an ATC only for your belay test, but then you can use whatever you want when climbing. When I asked why, the kid didn’t know the rationale behind it. Seems inconsistent & silly to require one thing for a test, but not for actual climbing, also seems silly to have rules that you can’t explain... Overall it just had a kind of weird vibe, like maybe there was going to be a little kids pizza party there later, and a few kids might show up… but even they would’ve been disappointed. Anyway, I have been to a lot of gyms across the country, and usually feel right at home, but in this case, it felt like I was in a twilight zone. (For reference I went on a Sunday mid-morning, so maybe during the week it’s more chill🤷🏻‍♀️)

I went yesterday for the first time and ended up joining before I left. I am new to town and actually very impressed with the quality of the rock gym here. Decently high routes, good setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a killer workout room. Southern Oregon is very lucky to have this gym here and so am I!

EDIT** Appreciative of prompt response from owner about a problem. Communication about events limiting access to the gym has improved over time, this seems to have been an outlier, and ultimately a planned, productive use of the gym. Mea culpa. ** Is there anyway future "movie nights" in the gym could put be put on the calendar or emailed out to paying subscribers so we don't waste our time coming down to work out?

I’m redoing my review after about a year. I will say, the lessons for lead classes here are good and well taught. The gym has smaller routes than other gyms I’ve been to, but they make that difference up with difficulty. These are definitely the hardest routes I’ve done. Sometimes they don’t make sense but they are always doable. The only downside is the neighborhood, just make sure you lock your car and keep your valuables with you. Unfortunately I’ve left my car unlocked accidentally and a wallet was stolen. However the staff did have a camera and was helpful with what should be done. Also if you see reviews about kids everywhere, they’ve gotten a handle on that now. The kids are better behaved and are usually just doing their own section of the gym instead of running all about. So I definitely recommend this gym.

Love this spot! I live in LA but travel up here to visit family, and I always stop into Rogue Rock Gym while I’m here. Bouldering is fun (and harder setting than my gym back home). The walls are also fun for sport/top rope, but I’m more of a boulderer so I rarely do the walls. I do love that they have the auto belays for solo climbing. Their gym area with work out equipment (weights, machines) is so big and well equipped, love getting a good sweat in there. My favorite added touch is the permanent slack line in the middle of the gym that anyone can use. They have bathrooms with showers btw! Highly recommend coming here and getting a day pass to enjoy the climbing & gym work out area!

I would like to thank Rogue Rock Gym for an amazing experience. I made a reservation for 20 youth to climb for an evening. They took great care of us, made us feel welcome, had dedicated staff for our group, and made the experience fun for all. Thank you again and we will be coming back again.

The staff is awesome, helpful and knowledgeable . my wife and I got memberships and this place has become a 4 days a week visit! Also great climbs and weight gym as well. The bouldering area has often updated and changing climbs of all difficulty levels. Cool spot for beginners or advanced climbers. 👍👍👌
