It is with a heavy heart that I decided to post this review. I have patronized this restaurant since it first opened about 15 years ago or so. I remember Chef Lee crafting his art behind the sushi bar paying attention to each dish coming out. The rolls were big and the fish was fresh.I worked across the street and ate there at least 2-3 times a week. I have since moved away but every time I would come to town I would eat there which is at least 2 times a year .What I noticed over the last ten years is a gradual decline in both quality and quantity. I ordered the sweet shrimp on Monday Sept.26th and got two dried up shrimp on rice that would not stay together. The mackerel tasted like pickled herring. The dragon roll and the spicy tuna were half the size I remember and the fish part even smaller. The saving grace for us was my partners hot noodle soup bowl which she liked .The waitress was very nice and very apologetic when confronted with the faux sweet shrimp but ultimately charged us for just regular shrimp sushi. Really?? I hate to say it but perhaps Bonsai has run its course and will now follow the path of other great restaurants that just got too big to handle.

Enjoyed an excellent family meal at Bonsai! Prompt & friendly service, a large menu as well. The sushi came out quickly & was eaten just as quickly. My Korean spicy stir fry was very, very good 👍 great heat, great vegetables & tender chicken.

Not in the menu but special request it anyway! best sushi I recommend is the seared salmon, seared tuna and seared scallops with a side of spicy mayo! And I also recommend regular tempura udon! It all has pretty good flavors in there way and the owner of the place is very nice and cooks as well. I’m from out of town and I’m quite impress!

Needed to get our sushi fix while in town since it was down the street from where we were staying the night. Not bad Sushi at all, we are Salmon lovers. So we ordered half Fresh Salmon & Half seared Salmon Sashimi, and 3 other rolls. The Sashini cuts were onpoint!

Was a bit of a wait for the food, my grandson's came about 20 minutes before mine. He was ready to leave and I hadn't even gotten anything. The hostess came and if we're ready fir the bill when I hadn't even gotten my food. So I git mine to go and brought it home. I was sad as it smelled good.

Used to love this place; was one of the high points of trips up from Mt Shasta. Stopped in for supper this evening and were at first ignored by the only server in the place, who appeared to be inebriated. After an uncomfortable wait, she finally took our order impatiently and without writing it down... and came back to the table some five minutes later to ask what we'd ordered because she had "had a bad week." Roughly half an hour after we seated ourselves, we walked out and drove to Tosu, where the service and the food were excellent.

I just wanted to edit this review after looking at my grandmothers receipt. This is not even a gratuity charge this is just a charge for more than six people and then they wanted a tip on top of that. I have never had such bad service at a restaurant. We went to Bonsai Teriyaki & Sushi Medford, OR 4 adults and 2 children in their menu it reads in bold red letters large parties charged 18% gratuity no mention of how many a large party is, then we get the bill on the bill it says we will be charged 18% for more than 6 people and that was charged. No it did not say 6 people or more it is more than six people. When we questioned the waitress about it she was extremely rude picked up the bill and we asked her to read it she read it she said yeah more than six people count how many people you have… she literally sat there and yelled at us in front of everyone while the manager and the rest of the workers sat there and laughed. They should be incredibly embarrassed by the way she acted. Never again will we or will I ever recommend this place as this brunette waitress was unlike any other waitress. If you want good service or any service at all do not go there. The food was great so it’s sad they allow someone to act in such a childish way. Not only that most people give more than that for a tip so that’s not the problem it’s being charged when we didn’t even have more than 6 like it said.

Came here for takeout with my family because we were staying at the nearby Hilton Inn. Besides Japanese dishes on the menu, there was also some Korean food like spicy tofu soup with beef (soon dubu) and mixed vegetables and rice bowl (bibimbap). I ended up getting a salmon and tempura combo with miso soup, which was great! It was nice that the cooked salmon pieces came with the teriyaki sauce separated since my kids wanted plain fish while I could have mine with sauce. Tempura was a nice mix of veggies and the batter was crisp. Would definitely come back for more!

I got the Teriyaki Chicken Bento that is in picture #1. I had already eaten 2 of the pot stickers and 1 of the California roll slices. My 10 year old niece is a champ!! She had 2 “Rainbow rolls” shown in picture #2 and finished them both. All the food was excellent and service was wonderful. This is my second time here and will definitely be going back soon.

Great food, friendly, reasonably priced. The chefs greeting you when you walk in always makes me smile. Take out is quick and accurate.

What can I say about this place but they are warm and friendly in which it makes it a great environment to eat at. I absolutely love their sashimi super fresh just the right amount and you can't go wrong for the price. They're fire bombs are to die for grape flavor full of freshness that bursts in your mouth. California rolls in my opinion or a little small but fresh and full of flavor and that's not to mention there wasabi that they make is to die for. Their prices are not over the top but they're not cheap either decent pricing for what you get. Their decor inside is a little vintage but the great service makes up for it.

Wonderful sushi. Great service. Super fresh and delicious. My family and I have finally found a place that serves amazing and delicious sushi. Many choices to pick from and everything we have tried has been amazing, every time! We love Bonsai and will make the hour and a half trip from klamath falls to Medford just to enjoy their amazing food and service.

I am a fan of there spicy seafood udon, containers for to go are a bit smaller than i like but still good quality. Las Vegas rolls could have an extra roll or two.

A great variety of Asian food. The sashimi and nigiri were outrageous. They also offer Korean food. The seafood is very fresh. We did not have sushi, but the rolls looked great. I am definitely eating here again!

Even when they're crazy busy the waitstaff and cooks at bonsai are always excellent! They have never dissapointed in all the years I've gone! This is by far my favorite sushi place in medford and I happily suggest it to anyone that asks for a sushi recommendation!!

I closed my menu and ordered the Yakisoba, the waiter asked if I wanted meat, I should have checked the menu when she asked, if I wanted meat? I thought it was choice of meat, not add meat; chicken was another $4. I did not get $4 worth of chicken. I feel disappointed. As for the yakisoba, I think the vegetables out numbered the noodles. It was okay, a little different than what I’m used to. They added a lump of rice to the place as a bonus.

I always enjoy finding little secrets like this. They're right there, you pass them every day, but somehow you miss them or you just don't give them a chance because the big-name restaurants are easier and more reliable. Will I tried this place for you. Let me assure you that you need to stop driving by. The quaint atmosphere and the quiet location absolutely hide the phenomenal sushi. I ordered a Volcano roll and the rock star while my girlfriend got a lion king, Hollywood , and a dragon roll. Exquisite is the word that comes to mind. Every piece of sushi we got was a beautiful masterpiece, and frequently, when it looks good, it tastes o k, but that is not the case here. The sauce is glazed to perfection and the tempora is very obviously fresh. The colors are made through searing the fish or Mixing the sauce and other ingredients in a perfect manner. You can even tell that the fried tempora batter for my rock star was handmaid and had a lovely slight sweet but clean finish. I am ecstatic to visit this place again and I need everyone to realize how tasty it is so that they thrive and continue to be an amazing gem in medford. If you are unsure where to go, let me make it very clear that this is easily one of the best places I've eaten in town.

The food was good, except for the mochi ice cream. It tasted like it had freezer burn. I've had mochi ice cream many times, but this was awful. It tasted old. The plum wine was the best I've ever had. The waitress was cold and didn't tell us what each roll was. There were several on each plate and even though we all ordered our own thing they put them on the plates together at the end of the table. When you tried to talk to the waitress she was either very short or would walk away and not acknowledge us. At one point she put the bill down without saying anything or asking if we needed anything else. If she hates her job she should go somewhere else instead of making the owners look bad. The lady that answers the phone and greets people is very nice. I believe she is one of the owners.

Eating sushi is a spiritual experience for me, I just love all of it. I have been eating at Bonsai for about 5 years now but after tonight I may have to part ways. I have spent a fortune at this place and it’s usually always an amazing experience. I was served some yellow tail tonight that tasted foul. Please God don’t let me get food poisoning. Just got home and feel awful. I paid the bill in full but should of been compensated something. I am so disappointed. The last time I dined at Bonsai there was a problem with the Lion King roll (overcooked & dry) but I said nothing.

The food was was wonderful! The sushi was well done and my teriyaki beef was tender! It is very authentic. The only reason I’m giving a 4/5 stars is due to the service. I think maybe they were short staffed and I will say I believe the waitress was trying. It was just a bit slow. I believe if the restaurant continues to work on the service this will be a 5 star. I still recommend this, because the food was so good!

First time ever eating there and at first food was great we all shared my husband I and our 4 kids. Then we fond a hair in our roll, not to worried cause could have been ours, but then after a couple of hours my daughter got supper sick throwing up and explosive diarrhea. Spent the whole night awake with her throwing her guts up. Will never eat there again.

Always really good sushi. Fresh. You can have the option to watch the sushi chef make the rolls right in front of you if you sit near the sushi fridge. Portions are a good size.

I really enjoyed the Bibimbap here. The gochujang sauce was very good too. Great atmosphere and excellent service!

My dish came on a cafeteria type plate, but was quite delicious. Kinda high priced in my opinion. I probably won't go again anytime soon. I prefer Chinese style food but the service was great! And delicious plum wine😊

If getting take out, remember to request silverware. Wow, talk about service. Friendly staff, great food. Good portions. I will definitely be back when I'm in town. Parking is easy, though if they're busy I can see it may not be enough space.
