Very well kept. The landscaping is done fantastically, the large pond is excellent. Enjoyed the morning walk around the perimeter. Restrooms are cleaned often. The lawns are well manicured. I recommend.

The park is BEAUTIFUL! So many people out walking their dogs and feeding fish and exercising. There are nearby areas of homeless, but the park is well let.

Nice park, at one point. Loved reading the history here. The water fountain feature was cool, palm tree lined walking paths were nice. But the garbage was pretty ridiculous. First time here as I was visiting from out of town. Was pretty nasty. Felt bad seeing all the wildlife living among all the trash. The ponds near the bridge, so much garbage floating. There was homeless sleeping on the covered bridge. Was pretty discouraged and ended up leaving.

I consider this a flagship park of the city of Phoenix. The grounds used to be part of the old indian school, hence the name. It's relatively large compared to other city parks. There is plenty of parking. It has a small and large dog area. There's several monuments that commemorate various people and events. Huge amount of green space is available and plenty of shade from trees. It also has ramadas and restroom, although, those are close due to Covid. Homeless people frequent the park. They've never bothered or approached me. If you like fishing, there are a couple ponds to do it. The park is very clean. It seems there is a landscape maintenance team on site. If you haven't been there take it minute to check it out. It's fun even if it's just to walk around.

For the area, this is one of the best parks. Itโ€™s really big, and offers a lot of nice walking paths, some great greenery, water, a playground, two dog parks and more. The area around is mixed, and sometimes there will be some homeless people in the area. Usually the park is crowded enough that this is not an issue and it still feels very safe. I love to come over in breaks from work and just walk for a half hour!

Thereโ€™s something for everyone here. The playground equipment is varied and close to the bathroom and water fountains. A fishing pond leads to a duck pond with many non-aggressive ducks. (Side note: bread is not good for them; use a seed, like oatmeal) There is a lovely grotto-like area that we fed them from.

This is a fabulous little park! Lots of available parking, shady trees, and it is so nice to see some water out in Pheonix :) I pulled up for some yoga in between shifts at my jobs and it made for an awesome, peaceful stop. Thereโ€™s a trail that looks like it goes all throughout the park, plus a covered pavilion and it looks like some historical info as well. I will be back to explore more :)

The city of Phoenix did a great job on the Fabulous 4th celebration here. Live music and the largest fireworks display in the state. It was a little warm but what a great time. This picture is before everything started. Once the park was open it got packed.

It took years before that run down old school finally became a nice park and central Phoenix sure needed it badly in the middle of town. I remember the Natives mostly Navajo jumping the fence to get a soda or better still a beer or two. This really is our own Central Park. When I went to Central High years ago it wasn't any kind of school or park either but a mess next door to my high school. Now it's getting there. Looking closer to completion it is getting there. (Some day)

If you like Pokemon go this is definitely a nice spot for hunting. Plenty of gems plenty of pokestops. If you have children and you take them to this part do not let them use the restrooms alone. Keep them close to you I have been followed by some creepy people. Some homeless some not usually older men staring at my kids. Just be mindful and keep your eyes open and maybe don't go to the park after 8 because it is like crazy empty. Be safe and enjoy yourself and try not to let your kids roll down the hills there are bunch of stickers in the grass and it'll get in their jackets and clothing. Still my favorite spot for Pokemon go and maybe stay away from the south side of the park at night there's usually a lot of homeless folks

It's a beautiful park with water and ducks... Lots of fishing, jogging, dog park, families and events. The park is well maintained, very clean and safe. It's a great place to spend a few hours or an afternoon, if the weather behaves.

Itโ€™s a great park to go on a walk with family and friends along the lake. We went there for 4th oh July โ€˜23 fireworks display. It was amazing and perhaps it was the biggest fireworks display in Greater Phoenix!

Went to the Phoenix Highland Games. The food was good and the booths were plentiful with something for everyone. I was able to look up my family clan and buy kilts, pins, jewelry, blouse, boots, and a scarf with my family clan tartan. Best of all were the Highland Games and Scottish bands.

I've lived in Pix for more than 20 years and have never visited this park. What an error! Such a beautiful park! Filed with historic markers, plaques, and other observances. Well laid out, full of fountains, lakes and walking trails. A quiet bubble of solitude in the middle of urban Phoenix...its a great place for the kids or a date or the pets or just by yourself! I'm definitely going to find another reason to visit again,!

We go all the time, we love it. We're are PoGo players and this park is perfect for that. There's also the stocked fish pond for people who like to fish, lots of paved walk-ways, a park for kids, pavilions for parties and cook outs, and I love to feed the endless amounts of ducks on the pond. Perfect place for photographers, readers, families looking for a fun park for the kids.

It's a great park to go and enjoy a day by your self or with your dog(pet)Like I do there are good shady areas to sit or lay and it's not to crowded so bring a ball or frisbee and enjoy the ponds, maze and the memorials. Its cleaned up a lot and it is because the locals are not letting people get away with any BS so mind your manners and be respectful of others and have a wonderful time at the park.

Awesome park overall. The have kids play structures, basketball hoops, a lake, outdoor gazebo type things, a large dog park and a small dog park, huuuge amount of open space, historic native American cultural buildings (sort of, I understand them to be the school Native children we're strongly encouraged to attend), among so many other amenities. 10/10 would reccomend for long walks, bringing your dog, any sort of outdoor activities.

I love this park!!! Itโ€™s huge and open. Itโ€™s full of memorials for Native American Veterans. It has enough trees to give plenty of shade dispersed throughout the park and lots of paved routes for waking and biking. Lots of really vocal birds. I see few homeless people, but Iโ€™m sure it varies. Itโ€™s a city park, so homeless are to be expected and they certainly have as much right to use the space as any other human. I can definitely see myself spending a lot time here.

Is this such a great park that doesn't get enough credit. I wish the buildings on site could be renovated and turned into a museum or community space however the interior looks too far gone. I was using the space to workout with veteran population who expressed disinterest in the amount of bird poop that overtook the pavilions that provided shade. The small areas of water appeared at times unkept. Generally though it's a nice large park with plenty of parking and multiple locations with plenty of room to enjoy for whatever your needs are.

This park is a hit or miss. We have gone several times and sometimes itโ€™s pleasant. If you go after dark, there is not a lot of light so youโ€™ll want to keep that in mind. Also, there are a lot of homeless people. For the most part they donโ€™t bug anyone but some do.

A large park with a lot of amenities. Dog park, lakes, ducks and a wonderful memorial walk about that celebtrates the history and culture of the many tribes native to the valley. This has been a bit neglected as of late. Sorely needing landscaping and general maintenance. City Hall needs to budget more funding and bring it back to its original beauty.

I wouldn't consider myself a park connoisseur (if that's even a thing), but I found the park to be delightful. Very large and spread out, interesting history to it, and the water features make for a calming atmosphere that wouldn't be possible without the park's beautiful duck-filled lake in the center.

Excellent park in the heart of Phoenix. Nice sized playgrounds for the kiddos, little lake allows for fish omg or feeding ducks, and excellent sprawling paths for jogging, biking, skating, etc. We like to take the kids to ride, climb the hills and enjoy the peacefulness. Be sure to spend some time reading the history of the Indian School (which was disgustingly open into the 90s!) and contributions to our country from Native servicemen. All in all, it's our favorite park in Phoenix proper!

After a tour of the Indian School Saga at the Heard Gallery I had to see the original buildings left over from the experiment to crush the American Indian spirit. It is positive to see the land is now dedicated to the combined Indiginious Nation as a memorial to their service defending all of us. Some original buildings remain to give an impression of how daunting it must have looked to a child. Now the grounds honor their spirit as well as have access to the DAV resources for our current disabled Vets.

Steele Indian School Park has a pulse. I enjoyed hearing drums most of my time there. The parking is very good and the last time I was there there was a yellow carpet of Paloverde blossoms. It is a large park and because it also has gentle hills people can pretty much get away from other visitor's. The pond and island are popular and more than just a simple oval shape. People are fishing, sitting on benches and walking around. There are two dog parks and I had experiences at each. Playground is nice as is a majority of the park.

You wouldn't know it from the road, but this is a really nice park! A long trail circles the lake in the middle that's stocked with fish. Great place to lay down a blanket and spend a Spring afternoon. They also have gazebos you can reserve that have water and gas grills.

Lists of grass to sit and picnic that's a plus. Water would be much nicer to look at if it didn't have bird feathers floating around. If you look out of place or like your not from there you are judge atleast that's how it seems by the looks that I receive. Especially from the female species. Little do they know I'm not looking at your man but you woman on the other hand. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคค. Ladies stop being so stuck up damn it's not a good look. Chill have a wonderful day.

This park is nice and huge. The restrooms were clean and stocked. Only one thing, a guy we didn't know was calling us and trying to get our attention. We did not know him or we did not want to communicate with him. Glad he kept his distance and other than that we had a good cook out in the nice weather.

This park is pretty big with plenty of well kept grass to run around in. Shaded picnic tables and restrooms. They have ducks in the pond for kids to watch. They even have two fenced in dog parks. One for little dogs and the other for big dogs. It's been a year since I've been here the last time. The dog parks were closed for some kind of maintenance back then, but they are open now. Plenty of space for everyone to have fun. A great place to relax or play games.

This is a great park. It is actually a national monument and memorial to Native American Veteran. The park was built on an existing trash dump and was funded by private donations solicited by schoolchildren. There are many aspects to this park from environmental to historical exhibits including many native American cultural events.

  • 4/5 Jessica Z. 4 months ago on Google
I was there for Pagan Pride. That was awesome, but apparently, they wouldn't let the food trucks in the festival! They had to stay far away from everything and stay in the parking lot. The year before, it was awesome to have them in with the rest of the vendors. I don't blame the coordinators or the people with the event. They always do an amazing job!

  • 3/5 Kyle H. 4 months ago on Google
Not the best park, but also not the worst park. It is large enough that you can enjoy yourself and not be in other people's way and they do have the dog park and playgrounds and seem to be pretty well maintained for the area (by that I mean a lot of homeless and well, yeah you know). There is a lot of dog poop every where but granted there are not any or a lot of stations so can't blame them and they only have two of the bathrooms open for some reason so if you gotta do, try and enter off 3rd and and use the one by the dog park or enter off central ans use the one by the basketball courts. They should stay open later than 10pm but granted the city is dead by then and one time I had my dog up early and we were there at 5;30AM and they were scrubbing the bathrooms before 6AM open time ans unfortunately there were a few homeless waiting and once opened, their hard work scrubbing f was over cuz they were than reeled filthy by the ones waiting. There were needles and caps of needles on the sidewalk paths so beware and be careful of that if walking any animals. Other than that it is what you get for being in central Phoenix and if could be worse.

We went fishing and it was pleasantly cool. A controlled environment nice and clean and family friendly. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because I kept seeing dead animals. Fish and birds dead threw me off. Made me think something was killing them off or something in the water

I deeply enjoyed walking around the park, a lot of animals to watch, different kind of birds, tortoises, fish etc. very clean, no garbage or homeless people trashing things around, a lot of people from all ages enjoying as well, they have a dog area, they can be off leashes, with some requirements, if I can, or happen to be around, Iโ€™ll do it again. One thing to noticed is that by the moment that I was there, lots of people, but no kids around.

It's a beautiful park to walk around and ride your bike. I did find this dog, no collar, no chip. I'd like to return him to his owner! He is very sweet

Ducks, tragic monuments, a school, where catholics tortured natives, lakes, hawks, parakeets. Great for fishin, picnics, walkin, biking, stalking, bbqg, dog parks(2), playground, exercise stuff that's fun and lifts you off the ground, a net installed, bring the badminton set! Close to the VA in case I beef it.
