👍👍 I absolutely loved it here. It was my first time here and I instantly told my wife I'm coming back. The vibe in here is chill and the staff were super cool and nice. The coffee was great, both hot and iced. Also make sure to try one of their yummy desserts to go along you coffee. The art around this... As a new customer checking this out for the first time there is a lack of hospitality. No greeting upon entry or exit. As other reviewers stated tips are demanded and if you don’t tip you get the silent treatment. Tips are 100% optional because they’re tips. If you have to rely on tips then wage increases are necessary. Due to COVID-19 more cleaning is necessary, but there are plenty of other restaurants/coffee bars who don’t demand tips and have more friendly staff.

One of the best coffee places in Phoenix. The atmosphere and overall branding are spots on in a unique way. I've been here personally over a dozen times. It's close to my house and right across the street from Sprouts. However almost every time I leave...I question why I spent money here. The service isn't the best, and if you don't fit into a specific mold, you aren't treated with respect. I know for most people, this isn't a big deal, but if I ask you for advice on which coffee beans to purchase, please don't just turn the bags over for me to read the labels. I am more than capable of doing that myself, and I want to have a conversation with you about your personal opinion. I am giving this place 4 stars because I truly do love the coffee & pastries. Their sister company, Coronado is a gem and the customer service there is top notch. Let's sprinkle some of that love here at Dark Hall.

Worth the 20+ min drive to drop in for some Java.

What a great space! First the aesthetics are gorgeous, plenty of parking in the area including a gravel lot across the street, the service was excellent and the coffee was absolutely delicious. Definitely a perfect spot to grab coffee and a treat.

The new location is beautiful! Excellent customer service with a great selection of treats and drinks. It is clear that a lot of time and energy went into the thought process of making this space comfortable and accessible. This is my new regular hangout.

Hands down, Dark Hall Coffee is one of the best cafe’s in Phoenix! The staff is always amazing, and willing to lend me a drink idea, when I’m wanting to try something new, the vegan pastries are too die for, and the ambiance is next level! My go to drink here is the Honey Lavender Oat Milk Latte, but I’ve never been disappointed when trying something new!

This place, I found after trying 5 other locations in Phoenix. Aside from place that caters to an “off-key” clientele, it was clean, upscale, and nice (especially for parking under shade. The food was good. I didn’t really like the drone of gothic, alternative music in the background.

The cold brew here in my favorite. If curious about adding any flavors I’d say do it! Normally I never do but the sweetness and flavors are always perfectly balanced. My partner always gets the cortado with cashew milk and he loves it. Their crew is super friendly and always make you feel welcomed.

I did not care for the experience I had with the cashier. She was unpleasant. Plus the espresso wasn't worth the money. I dont appreciate being told to tip when these people are making the same minimum wage as I am. There were only two people in the cafe it wasnt a difficult order. By the way if the owner thinks their employees deserve to get paid more then they should raise their hourly wages. And I do work in the service industry, the behavioral health industry, that is why I am getting paid minimum wage.

Been here a few times and I just feel most of the staff is very stingy and not very accommodating. The coffee is so-so... really all they have going for them is providing unique vegan sweets.... I will continue going to their sister restaurant The Coronado. At least they are more welcoming and accommodating.

Decided to get dark hall after a long week and ordered a drink and a pastry. After I got home I realized I was charged a $5.00 tip when I told the cashier 15%. Called back and talked to Ryan on the phone who was super helpful and nice and helped me get a refund (refunded the pastry). Also, Ryan was not the cashier when I ordered. I understand that y’all are trying to keep employees and customers safe by not letting us touch your iPad, but please make sure you get the order and tip entered correctly. hopefully y’all don’t actually expect a 50% tip. A part of me believes that it was entered purposely based on the fact that it was an even $5.00 instead of choosing from the percentage options.. I want to make another point about the consistency of the drinks.. I like the fact that it is a vegan coffee shop. I have been to the shop multiple times. Sometimes my vanilla latte does not taste sweet at all and sometimes it is crazy sweet, so I never really know what to tell the cashier when ordering my drink. Also the hot drinks are never hot. Every time they have been lukewarm.

Went to visit, beautiful location however right as we entered the barista/cashier on duty was extremely rude. Yes, I understand it's a global pandemic and the need to not touch things is a must. However the barista/cashier was extremely rude on getting the point across, there is no need to yell in a degrading tone to consumers. I was planning to purchase some merchandise however her unnecessary aggression was very hurtful. I wish I didn't purchase coffee here because of this barista/cashier was completely off the line and rude. I felt as if we were a different race we wouldn't have faced this aggressive behavior towards us. Advice to the manager and owner, have sympathy and discrimination training on baristas. Also put up signs on merchandise stating not to touch it as well as caution tape so no one crosses the area that's off limits. Had my review on YELP

Clean, quick, and friendly experience. Unique flavor combinations (ginger and grapefruit cold brew is DELICIOUS) with efficient staff. They allow only two people inside the shop at one time which made me feel safe and good about supporting this business and the staff. All baked goods were fully stocked when I arrived at 7:10 :) For those who are complaining about how staff have to ask you if you want to tip due to safety precautions (tablet is behind the plexiglass wall): I think you should always tip generously if you’re going out at all during the pandemic! If you’re buying coffee almost $5 a cup you can afford a 15% or more tip. Plus it’s way more awkward for the staff than you!

Dark Hall is at the top of my list for coffee in Phoenix. It has a great atmosphere for doing some computer work or meeting in pairs of 2 or small groups to sit and enjoy a coffee together. They offer nice outdoor seating options as well that will be awesome in the non-summer months. The coffee is extremely high quality - I would highly recommend their dirty chai, both hot and iced. The pastries are really incredible too. We had the chocolate cake with frosting in the shape of a skull that was really tasty. This location has only been around for a few weeks and I’m already looking forward to making this a regular morning stop.

Very cool little cafe with a cool aesthetic. I tried out "Greed," one of their seasonal spooky drinks, and a walnut fig galette. I really enjoyed that everything was vegan as well, I wouldn't have known if the person with me hadn't told me. I don't drink caffeine and they did their best to accommodate me.

Came to Dark Hall for the first time after hearing about it for months. I love the ambience of this café. It’s got an almost gothic romance vibe but is the perfect place to work for a couple hours. I ordered a Chai with oat milk which was just the right amount of sweet. I also got a gluten free oatmeal cookie. The cream in the cookie amazing and I loved that it was dairy free! Will definitely be back soon.

Former Coworker always brought baked goods from here and I've been meaning to get down to try their coffee as well. Everything is completely vegan so expected non-dairy milks for your beverages. I've yet to have a bad food item from them. Definitely check out this local coffee spot for some of the best snacks and drinks in town

It was alright. Coffee was ok, but could find much better coffee elsewhere. Most of the pastries were stale and had a container-like aftertaste. Also, I know Covid is going on right now, but to ask for a tip at every transaction when all you're doing is pouring coffee and putting pastries in a plastic to go box.....seems a bit greedy.

Great little hidden spot. Stopped in on the way to work to check it out. I was rather surprised my bill for a 16oz Iced Coffee and Mini Choc Banana gluten free cake came out to over $8. Overall though, the quality was primo and staff was friendly. I've been returning ever since. Shot out to Ryan for always taking great care of me. I highly recommend the gingerbread cold brew.

I found Dark Hall Coffee through Google maps and was not disappointed. It was very small and they have a small variety of pastries BUT the sample they do have is AMAZING! I was naturally thrown off because I'm not vegan but the cashier recommended the oat milk in a vanilla caramel latte and it was delish! I also tried a chocolate banana cake which was just as yummy! The cashier was super friendly and very knowledgeable which made me feel welcome. I'd definitely return and would recommend anyone stopping by as well!

This is a small independent company with a huge corporate competitor right across the street. It's a little quirky with a quasi gothic motif going on. Loved the muzak playlist of cold wave/synth pop bands. They serve the expected coffee offerings with the standard flavorings and the less expected lavender flavor. They have a full offering of teas and house made vegan pastries. They also sell a great Tshirt with a memorable graphic, had to have one!

First time in. Wanted a black and white but the white chocolate was only offered in 2 specialty drinks. No biggie! He was super polite about it and made suggestions on incorporating mocha in the two specialty drinks. If I was in the mood for the other flavors I would have tried it. Got a mocha only and it was good!! My husband got a Mexican mocha and he was offered a spice level, interesting.. he went for low spicy and it was just right imo. Love vegan options. Will be back.

I visited for the first time about two weeks ago with my boyfriend. The two guys behind the counter we’re friendly and very helpful in answering our questions. They suggested drinks and food items for us to try. The drinks were great but my favorite was the vegan elderberry cake. I live in north Phoenix and this will be my stop whenever I am in mid town. This was definitely a great experience.

My wife and I have been coming to this spot for the past year or so we have lived on the west side. I am super grateful to have this amazing local coffee shop as we don’t have too many over here. The vegan pastries are incredible, I’ve never had something I didn’t enjoy. :) I personally just get a hot oat milk latte because I think it’s perfect as is, but my wife gets different drinks and really loves the chai. I feel the espresso is strong here and does give me a ton of energy. Overall, the vibe is 10/10 especially if you’re tryna get some instagram pics.

This coffee was phenomenal! No indoor seating yet, but they had a few tables outside where we were able to enjoy our coffee. They are still requiring masks, but if you don't have one they do have disposable maks. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area.

This was my first and last stop in Phoenix. I tried as much as I could. Lavender oat milk latte, cold brew, and the special “the altar” I enjoyed all of it. I also had my first macaron ever...(kind of a novelty for me), I’m more of the all pink cookie type. Try any cake! I tried three different cakes and all of them were exceptional.

Hands down the best vegan pastries in Phoenix! I've tried many of the drink specials, which are always creative and delicious. Coffee is always bomb, and I love that they source from a local roaster. Even my non-vegan friends and family love Dark Hall! Plus, it feels good to support a business that cares about its employees and community.

Absolutely brilliant coffee and pastries, their in-house made oat milk changes the way I'll have coffee. Macarons were flavorful and just the right touch of sweet. As we're the Dark Chocolate cookies. I had the Mocha Latte which is perfect without adjustments. I could drink a keg of this and never get tired.

Definitely a favorite place to go whenever I'm downtown, and I love the rotating selection of edibles. Paid them a visit near closing time too, and the service was great all the way up until the end! Such nice folks here, and if you are a regular you get noticed! (The only thing that my goth friends are curious about though, however, is why this shop closes so early, because wouldn't goths love to stay open late? Their words, not mine.)

  • 5/5 Brad M. 1 year ago on Google
All vegan and yet they still have a better selection of pastries than most cafes. Macarons, cookies, cakes, all delicious and fresh and unique. Their coffee is also incredible. Highly recommended!

There are so few places in Phoenix that do it like dark hall!! From customer service to the bakery itself, no one could be disappointed with their results. I ordered a cake for my sister’s birthday, and the butter cream frosting deserves celebration on its own!! Thank you so much for your perfected recipes and detailed decorations!!

  • 5/5 Patrick W. 11 months ago on Google
Didn’t get a chance to try the coffee here, but I wanted to rave on their cakes! I heard a rumor they crafted all vegan cakes and after inquiring, I was emailed a ‘cake book’ with the most amazing and interesting looking cakes. Decided on the red velvet decorated with sugar glass and what a show stopper! not only did it look extraordinary, the cake tasted splendid as well and was easily the best birthday cake we had this past, celebratory weekend. Dark Hall had great communication, easy pick up and they made the whole process stress free. Thank you so much!

  • 5/5 Holly H. 10 months ago on Google
Place is a little small, but there's plenty of outside seating. The coffee itself is nothing to write home about, it's like any other coffee shop. The pastries, however, were extremely good! A simple chocolate chip cookie was so rich and buttery, paired perfectly with a latte. My friend got the lemon matcha mini cake and while it was a tad bit too sweet, you could taste the lemon and matcha equally. My sister got an orange poppyseed scone and I think it was one of the best scones I've had. The glaze definitely tasted like orange, but it didn't overpower any part of the scone. The workers here were friendly and gave great recommendations!

One of the best coffee shops and bakeries I have ever been to. And it's all vegan! 🎉 the sweet treats are always imaginative and decadent, you'd have no idea they're all vegan, not that vegan goodies ever have to taste any worse than harmful alternatives. The espresso is forever delicious and they're swag is pretty awesome too, if that wasn't enough to satisfy you. Love the goth decor and the bathroom even feels palatial.

This is the coolest coffee shop I've been in yet! The cold brew with a shot of espresso... One sip and my tastebuds were dancing! Without a doubt the best cold brew I've tasted besides my own. Very vibrant and clean, usually I like a little sweetness in my coffee but their cold brew does not need it at all. And as far as service goes, the employee that helped me was very friendly and I felt very welcome the second I walked in. It's a shame I don't live near this spot but I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Phoenix! I gotta add that their rewards system is the coolest I've seen... $6.66 is the magic number that equals points and that just sits right with my soul as so many foolishly fear that number, giving it power over them but to me it's just a really cool number and if you actually look into it and stop letting a religious text tell you what to think and believe you'll learn that the true meaning behind that number is a very positive one. "666 invites you to cherish your place in your community and honor the differences between everyone."... LOVE this spot! Total hidden gem tucked behind the Coronado. The vibes inside are so welcoming and friendly. Their whole menu is plant based, with some super creative drink options. Love their matcha, it’s so fresh and tasty, and not too sweet! Will definitely come back and recommend this spot highly!

Hip dark-sided cafe with great roasts. Excellent vanilla oat latte. Ask for a blessing on your coffee & maybe you'll get a pentagram ⭐️

My friend and I hadn’t been since they moved locations, but so glad we visited yesterday. The coffee was delicious, the cake we shared was amazing and so moist, and the atmosphere was gothic and beautifully done.

As a love letter to Dark Hall, I only have amazing experiences to share about this wonderful place. All the drinks, but especially seasonal selections, are divine. The staff is kind, informative, and attentive. The decor, music and ambiance cannot be beat. The beautiful outdoor seating is dog friendly. The food choices are flavorful and plenty! From veganized savory quiches to thick cookies to tarts to cake, they seriously have it all! Whether you’re local to the area or you’re on an adventure for the best of the best when it comes to vegan spots, Dark Hall is an S tier pick!

The people here are amazing “masochists” to making amazing food and drinks. They care so much about quality and making sure we had a good time. Visiting from PNW, we were looking for a unique coffee experience, and the drinks were unique and delicious. The alt/goth vibes were a bonus! Made for a great spot to relax.
