The coffee was great! Also inside its super cute and they have good seating area to do some work on you computer. Also the menu is pretty cool has portions of how much coffee each drink has.

Never again. The cost alone is a no for me. First, I wanted a breakfast burrito (quoted time was 10 mins). Then, axed that and got the hatch chile bagel bomb (asked if they can warm it up, was told they don’t have anything to warm it up with). Finally, the cost was 11$ (8oz of coffee with almond milk and food) with no tip.

Coffee was okay, pastry was great. The espresso isn't as strong as I would like (even though I got a shot more than I normally do). The pastry, apple butter pop tart, was great. Most and crispy!

Couldn’t taste the vanilla in my coffee. Food wrap was ok. Pastries were forgettable. Only outside sitting available.

Delicious lattes and probably the best breakfast burrito I’ve ever had! I ordered an iced honey lavender latte and it was delicious. The burrito was toasted on all sides and the cheese was melty and wonderful. We came twice on our weekend getaway.

I love that this is downtown near the convention center - a great spot for those of us visiting!! This little coffee nook is great to get some delicious brew. They have some pastries as well, and I look forward to trying those next time. For coffee, you have options from a regular $3 small cup to a fancy chemex option. Staff were friendly - I will definitely return.

Service was good. Coffee is good. I'd like to have come out of there for less than $4 for a 16 oz cup, but I got the special of the day, so I get it...kinda

Very good coffee. Nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed the fruit and oat bar. Pastries all seemed to be interesting flavors and not just standard fare.

Always fantastic coffee, and a fun, modern vibe in the cafe. I love their consistent hours, and it's definitely worth a detour if needed to get here.

The Cartel Coffee Lab has actually been here for quite some time. This place has their interior design down to a science. The place is laid out meticulously and if I am not mistaken there is this chandelier that is hanging a tad bit too low on purpose. Maybe I am confusing this place with somewhere else but I do remember something like that and I thought it was very cool.

  • 3/5 Celeste F. 4 years ago on Google
Really good coffee, but the girl behind the counter is salty as hell. Maybe the barista life has took its toll? Needless to say, customer service is a huge part of a consumers experience. She pretty much ruins that when she is irritated by every customer who walks in the small coffee space. It is time for Cartel to up their staffing game.

  • 4/5 Fernando L. 4 years ago on Google
I love having my cappuccino here. It tastes great, coffee quality is good and baristas do an awesome job. I took a star off because my friend got a iced vanilla late and paid almost 7 dollars for it. I think it's a bit pricey to charge .75 for a vanilla syrup shot but, if you do, you should note that in the menu.

  • 5/5 Thomasine T. 4 years ago on Google
They are coffee experts who are excited and willing to educate you about their offerings and how you can make the best coffee at home. Cartel is a true neighborhood hub that makes everyone feel at home. I have never been so comfortable or at ease with another public space (I am not kidding or exaggerating). Cartel is a little slice of what the world should be.

Service was warm and friendly but the shots were burnt and I couldnt finish my drink. I went to another location about a year ago and it was a great experience.

  • 4/5 Matriarch W. 3 years ago on Google
Service was amazing and the latte was delicious as always. Didn't like the blueberry crumble cake but really only ever liked the pop tart they use to have at the Tempe location. Wish they would bring that back.

I feel like they should offer lactose free milk. They used to have soy and no longer offer that.

I like coming to this coffee shop again and again! I really love the taste of their cafe latte because it was so creamy. I also love their cakes because it was so delectable. The staves were so kind, approachable, and courteous in everything they do. You deserve to be at the top list, guys! Very highly recommended!

Great little coffee shop! Looking for somewhere to have a nice coffee and cake for my parents, and I found this coffeeshop near my place. The coffee and cakes were so good, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The place is so relaxing and clean. Highly recommended to all!

Another must-do in Phoenix. Phenomenal vegan lemon poppyseed cake and outstanding coffee and espresso. Love the spare interior and friendly service. It's just steps from the Hyatt and the convention center and situated near a beautiful street art alley.

I like most Cartel Coffee locations but this one is not up to standards - usually 1 person working so takes a long time, because of this you get subpar, rushed drinks. This is unacceptable because 2 drinks + tip is $16. Gave 2 stars because worker is trying.

We visited a few days ago while visiting family, such a nice little find. The coffee shop is clean and tidy inside, coffee was nice, and our food was warm and well presented. They know they're coffee and they procure and serve some of the best coffee I've ever had. Not sure if its unique to Cartel but they share with you where your coffee came from and introduce you to the farmers that grow and harvest . As well they share with you how the coffee is processed and roasted. It's very interesting. They have some good bakery items and a treat that's vegan and usually more then one. And some healthier treats too Employees are personable and friendly which makes a visit to Cartel a win win

I was in Phoenix, AZ attending a conference when I found Cartel Roasting Co. I had the Organic Tatutu Natural pour over. This was amazing coffee! A Chemex was used for the pour over and the staff was excellent. They were all friendly, patient, and attentive. I only bought coffee from Cartel while I was in Arizona. If you like coffee and enjoy pour overs, this place is definitely for you.

  • 2/5 Cody M. 1 year ago on Google
Very limited options and it wasn't the greatest latte. The place is very laid back and seemed busy, but I definitely do not understand the hype. Only coffee place I have ever been to that only had cashew milk for non-dairy options? I won't be going back. Nothing I liked on their menu.

  • 3/5 Troy 1 year ago on Google
Meh.. I got a tiny chai latte. Barely tasted the chai. I don’t get why independent coffee places always have tiny cups of coffee and charge the same as other chain places would charge for something twice the size. Anyway.. this will be my only visit here.

Shocked by the pricing. $5 for a drip isn’t even premium market pricing. I laughed, and then I skipped and went up the street to Press and had a great experience! 12oz drip at Cartel is $5, 12oz drip at Press is $3.25.

  • 5/5 Pauline L. 7 years ago on Google
Being cheeky, I told the barista in this serious coffee place that I was from Melbourne, and hadn't found good coffee in Phoenix yet. It wasn't strictly true, but a great conversation starter with baristas! He made me an excellent latte with pretty free pour art. The lady working the cash register had to explain some of the offerings for me. I forget now what a one and one is, it involves two shots, one as espresso and one as macchiato? She ran through the cookies, and this was a good idea. I chose an espresso, chocolate, cashew and sea salt cookie, so satisfying to this hungry traveller. There's heaps of room at big tables here, they are expecting you to bring your laptop.

A hidden gem. Great selection of hot or cold coffees, a couple of breakfast burritos, delicious fresh pastries and friedly service. There is an air conditioned area to sit and enjoy your purchases with an immaculately clean public restroom. I strongly recommend stopping in here while wandering downtown.

  • 5/5 Scott B. 7 months ago on Google

Holy cow. Just had one of the pop tarts. I’ve always loved Cartel, the service and drinks are always great. This pop tart though took it to a new level; a new dimension. This pop tart moved me and set up the rest of my day for success. I now no longer believe I can kick start a day in the office without one. Thank you for changing my life you pop tart aficionados.

Good coffee, kind of pricey. My problem with it is that the staff are always kind of rude, regardless of how busy they are or how nice you are.

  • 5/5 Thatcher I. 4 months ago on Google
Best espresso in downtown Phoenix I’ve had after six or so coffee shops. Good pull, served with sparkling water. There is a small seating area outside or seats in an office lobby the coffee shop opens up into. Bakery case had a dozen or so items, including some that are vegan and/or GF.

  • 5/5 Chris S. 4 months ago on Google
They make an outstanding latte, the service impeccable and the seating area works in a uniquely Phoenician fashion. Perfect stop after being in the convention centre or on the way to the Suns.

  • 1/5 Cheyenne T. 2 months ago on Google New
Neat little shop but the service and coffee could use attention. Not sure how they have high marks here. The workers made the environment uncomfortable and made a group of 4 feel that ordering coffee was an imposition for them though no other customers were there. I ordered a coffee and the flavor was weak and acidic. When I asked the worker some questions regarding the flavor, their dismissal to my question was a bit frustrating. I would not recommend or return.

Stopped in for some coffee in breakfast since our hotel was nearby and wow! I had one of the best cappuccinos I’ve had in quite some time, and my breakfast burrito was fantastic. Very glad we were able to stop by. Highly recommend!

  • 1/5 jo t. 2 months ago on Google New
Quaint little shop however the coffee was lukewarm , sour and when I mentioned it my concern was dismissed. Server's attire had a large gaping hole exposing her entire butt cheek which I felt uncomfortable because I had a young child with me. Highly inappropriate for a food/coffee establishment. Would not recommend

This is a beautiful location in downtown Phoenix. We just moved here, and it’s walking distance from our apartment, and had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try today. I’m not sure if the baristas were just having an off day or what, but our experience was terrible. The guy who took our order seemed EXTREMELY annoyed by our questions (sorry, it’s our first time here, should we just automatically know everything…?). No flavors are listed anywhere that we could see, so how are customers supposed to know what you have unless they ask? And when your staff says to someone, “That drink comes with four shots of espresso, is that ok?” And then the customer asks if they can do three instead, maybe encourage your staff to not roll their eyes and say, “We can only do two or four,” like I should somehow telepathically know that? We sat on the patio for awhile after ordering and it was very interesting to see how enthusiastic and kind they were to obvious regulars, and how cold and rude they were to everyone else. In addition the menu listed for this location online doesn’t match what’s actually available in the store. You can order things like homemade pop tarts, scones, etc. online from this location but they don’t actually sell those items here. It was a very limited menu, which isn’t a bad thing, but having a different menu online is misleading. Our coffees weren’t mixed at all (my boyfriend’s iced mocha had a solid layer of chocolate at the bottom that very obviously wasn’t mixed into the drink) and both our drinks tasted very bitter, like the shots sat too long. I couldn’t taste any vanilla in the vanilla latte I ordered. I doubt we’ll be back. Fix your staff’s attitudes, please!
