What a fun and challenging hike! Very well maintained. This hike is very difficult and I saw many people who were not prepared. You really need lots of water and hiking shoes. You gain 1300 ft of elevation in just 1.3 miles to the top. Be very careful on the way back down, lots of people were slipping and tripping. The view at the top is worth the trouble though.

Great spot to take a β€œhike”. Absolutely beautiful and challenging. We were led to believe this was the β€œeasy” way up the mountain but the truth is, this trail is rated as Hard by All Trails and it was definitely hard. We took our time and made it to the top in 40 min. This is a very challenging and dangerous hike for anyone that is not flexible, mobile, and healthy. You will spend a good amount of time climbing over an up rocks as on your hands.

Absolutely an amazing hike! The views at the top were worth every step. This is a difficult trail, especially if you're not used to hiking in rocky terrain. Do not be fooled by the locals running up & down the mountain in tennis shoes; hiking boots or shoes with an aggressive tread are a must! Also, everybody on the trail was very encouraging & courteous, looking forward to hiking here again!

Whew! What a challenge, but an enjoyable one! On my first visit to Phoenix, I chose to hike here at Camelback Mountain. I did have hiking boots and 2 bottles of water, which was needed. The hike was definitely a lot of rock climbing. Gloves would've been great. Pace yourself. The views are worth it.

Great way to ring in the New Year! First time hiking Camelback and what a beautiful hike it is. Great view of the entire Valley. Not a difficult hike but you do have to be careful as it is not a walk in the park.

Just a wonderful hike from the canyon up Camelback 🐫 Mountain πŸ”οΈ. It's definitely not a smooth trail with sections where you are climbing from rock to rock but it sure is fun. It was very busy when we went and was difficult to get a parking spot. Some people choose to park on the street but all those cars were ticketed.

Hike was great! Really for the intermediate to advanced hikers. I recommend some quality hiking shoes with souls made for rock climbing. As there were two people that day rescued off the mountain for not being well prepared... Definitely go at your pace and listen to your self and your hiking partners. If their not comfortable with the terrain or skill level, please don't push it... You can always train and go a little further another day. Enjoy the climb, take your time, and be safe... Recommended- water, good clothing, shoes, phone, companion if available, patience, and remember bring a smile and have fun.....

Great place to get some hike even scrambling some places. One of the hardest hikes I've done but totally worth it. The heat makes the hike harder.

Very difficult hike, one must be very careful as rocks can be slippery and i have seen several people slip and hurt their legs/knees. Its has very nice views and the exercise is great.

Avid hiker and this was a great but challenging hike! The trail was well equipped with rails in the super steep parts, and the opportunity to go off trail on some rocks for those seeking a little extra challenge

Beautiful hike which traverses a few peaks with spectacular views of Scottsdale and Phoenix. There is ample parking, restrooms, and a water fountain at the base. The trail ascends quickly and parts of the trail can be relatively challenging to maintain footing. In those areas, you’re likely to find a handrail to assist. The trail is up and back and open during daylight hours only. Definitely recommend for the views and interesting terrain. Be sure to bring water and allow for the descent prior to sunset!

Very difficult "climb" for the top half, not a "hike." Not for beginners or untrained children. I'm a seasoned backpacker from WA and I've been on some technical climbs that didn't involve safety lines and this was up there with somewhat dangerious for people without sure footing. Not a too hard of a climb when when it comes to stamina, but it will zap you if you aren't prepared. We did it in December and it was only in the 60's/70's. That day there were 2 separate emergency rescues for people who fell and cracked the heads open. That all said, it was an epic climb with amazing views and hundreds of people on the trail.

Iconic Phoenix hike and place. Don't ignore the warnings. This is a workout. Pay attenttion to your step and don't rush. Coming down is as hard as going up, so be careful. The views are spectacular all the way. So take the time to enjoy and feel the burn safely. Tip: go early (sunrise) to avoid crowds and parking issues.

When i tell you that this is a great hike, that's a complete understatement. You got an easy beginner trail that you can start off with, and then there are other trails that become a little more strenuous and fun. There's a little climbing involved, not just hiking, so this trail turns into a full body workout. Make sure you pack plenty of water and don't push yourself too hard if you're just a beginner. There are thing to hold on to as you climb, so don't worry. There are two poke gyms and a pokestop or two. One of the gyms is an ex gym. And they both are pretty great spawn points for pokemon.

Beautiful trail. Wear sneakers and a tank top it gets hot. Stay on the trail, someone slipped and fell and died, bc they did NOT stay on the trail. Make sure you pack plenty of water, sunblock, and real hiking shoes.

My fiance and I stumbled upon this place around sunset and we were mesmerized by how beautiful it was. Every direction you look had different scenery and it was all beautiful. It also seems to have popular trails for runners.

We started our day by trying to hike at the Echo Canyon Trailhead but the parking lot was closed because it was too full. We ended up doing Cholla Trailhead and since it was such a busy Saturday we had to park on the side of the street about a half mile away or so. The hike was more on the moderate side, some spots were pretty rocky and could be challenging but nothing too crazy. You can get to Camelback Mountain from either the Echo Canyon Trailhead or the Cholla Trailhead. Overall a very beautiful hike. Round trip from the car was 3.8 miles and 1,335 feet elevation gain.

I'm 5' 10" 180 lbs. and 54 years old. I walk 3-6 miles every day with a modest 300-foot elevation gain. I swim 2 miles on the weekends and lift weights 3 times per week. I feel I'm in pretty good shape. The hike itself was enjoyable to me. I love hand over foot climbing. I was prepared with plent of water, gloves, etc. We made it to the top in just over an hour. However, about 10 minutes before the top, I started to feel lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, and had shortness of breath. All classic symptoms of altitude sickness. Can you get altitude sickness at only 2600 feet? I don't know, but let me tell you, it was horrible. Maybe the fact that I flew in from sea level the night before had something to do with it. I threw up 4 times on the way done. It took over 2 hours to decent in the condition I was in. I was sick the rest of the day. If you start to feel symptoms like these, do yourself a favor and turn back. It's not worth the misery I went through. Other than that, it was a great hike!

Great spot for a hike. There is free parking but it is limited and seems to fill up fairly fast. The main echo canyon trail hike is moderate to difficult but worth the effort for the views at the top. Highly recommend.

Super awesome place to hike! HOWEVER, be CAREFUL in the HEAT in the summer. They closed this place during the day due to heat of >110 degrees. I went in the evening (6pm) and it was still 100 degrees. It's a VERY steep climb and exhausting even if you are in shape! I drank almost 2 liters of water/electrolytes over the course of 2hours and was still dehydrated. I had minor signs of heat exhaustion halfway up (0.5 miles but 1500ft climb). BRING LOTS OF FLUIDS/ELECTROLYTES and DONT GO if you are not physically active. It's a harder climb. There was a rescue mission when I left due to someone getting heat exhaustion and getting lost! Very common!

Amazing climb. Bring at least 32oz of water and plan on 3 hours. Definitely worth it but be prepared to work if you are going to the top!

Camelback mountain is a must hike! *If you are allergic to bumble bees, DO NOT hike or bring an Epi Pen* This is the most challenging hike I’ve done. If at any point once you get passed the railing part of the hike you tell yourself it has to get easier…IT DOES NOT. Every part of this hike gets more challenging the entire way up. This route is well known and often hiked so there is always someone on the path. View is worth the hike for sure. There is free parking and restrooms with a fountain at the trail head. Trail is easily followed with markers throughout. If you’re concerned at any part, wait for someone to pass and follow them. It took about 2 hours in and out and can easily be shorter or longer depending on physical health. NO ANIMALS ALLOWED ON THIS TRAIL.

Definitely not an easy trail if you're not in shape. A lot of rock scrambling to get to the top, but the views are worth it. It seemed to me there's a lot of people that climb to the top just for exercise. If you want to do this trail, get here early early. I arrived at 540am and both parking areas were full already

This can be strenuous if you don't hike regularly. Hiking shoes recommended once on the top 360 views is amazing. Carry plenty of water and sunscreen. Avoid hiking if it is more than 95 degrees Can be crowded at times so plan accordingly but overall a gr8 hike πŸ™‚

Difficult but well built and super fun trail. Hiking shoes will make a big difference here as the slope becomes quite steep as you progress higher l. However, it is well maintained and safe if you go with a friend and ensure you have the proper equipment.

This is a difficult hike. Take plenty of water and good hiking boots/sneakers as the rocks you climb are of granite that tends to be slippery.

We did it!!!! Our family of four (including a 4 and 7 year old) made our way to the summit of Camelback via Echo trail. We have troopers for children and we all did our best to respect our fellow climbers on the trail. Before going up we taught the kids proper trail etiquette: watch for others, all stay to one side of the trail, and let others pass. I would NOT recommend this for the faint of heart, it is a HARD climb. We did plenty of research on taking the kiddos and had the mentality of "we will make it as far as we can". It took us 4 hours round trip, and we couldn't have done it without plenty of water and snacks. Please be careful with your kids on this trail, and be prepared to help them up and down. Know your limits!!!!

Spectacular mountain, right in the city (so easy access), wonderful trail, excellent views. But do not be misled by experienced hikers telling you this is an easy hike! It is not! See the EXTREMELY DIFFICULT sign in the photo? See the HELICOPTER in the photo? It is there to do a mountain rescue the day we were there. Can almost anyone do this hike? Yup. Can it surprise you with its difficulty? Can it take much longer than you expected, if you have aging joints or balance issues? Yup. It's great, but just know what you are getting into. Our hotel concierge said it was an "easy hike." He. Was. Wrong.

Challenging Trail. Wouldn't at all recommend small children going beyond the easy walking parts. It gets dangerous further up. Beautiful trail.
