What an amazing place! I was not expecting such excellent food and good service. This is easily the best Mexican food I've had to date! It doesn't surprise me that this place was rated #1 in the entire nation by Yelp in 2022. It's a hole in the wall place with limited parking but they do take reservations which was amazing. Came in with some co-workers for lunch and we were all blown away. Absolutely should be on anyone's list of restaurants to visit! The food was very fresh and had excellent flavor. Very unique compared to any other traditional Mexican restaurants which makes it stand out. They have two outdoor seating areas, bar and inside seating. The service was excellent and will definitely be back many more times!! Cheers!

AMAZING! Not going to lie this was rather difficult to find because there wasn't any flashy signs and from the outside it doesn't look like anything special. But, the inside tells a whole different story. Mexican themed atmosphere, decoration, music, etc. Small bar, table and booth seating. Service was very friendly and had a positive sense of humor that was a nice interaction. Best Mexican food I have had in a long time. Classic chips with guacamole but with a twist of jalapeno-bacon added. Fantastic enchiladas, the beans and rice were just the right amount of side servings. Finally the dessert was beautifully prepared and the chocolate just melted in my mouth. Wish I could give six stars because everything seemed freshly prepared and served. Highly recommend this place.

First time here, tough to find a place to park but food was great. Quest dip was amazing, guacamole was spot on. I had the Al Pastor tacos, great amount of flavor and spice. Will definitely be back. Staff was very accommodating of our group, quick to take care of drinks and get our orders going. Everyone left full and happy.

The atmosphere here is really nice. I wanted to treat my friends to a delicious lunch at a new to us place but we left hungry and disappointed. The only thing that we could enjoy was the beer. It couldn't help the food though. The madrigal burrito I ordered looked like it had been sitting on the counter for 5 or 10 minutes. Long enough for the sauce to saturate completely through the burrito. It would have been fine if the sauce had flavor. I could have found joy in any type of flavor for that matter. The pictures look better than what the food tasted. It wasn't bad but it had absolutely zero flavor outside of the boiled chicken. My friend apologized profusely because I couldn't bare eating that bland burrito. The Taco was left unfinished as well. Even the beans tasted fresh out of a can. I won't be going back. The corn tortillas had great flavor for what it was worth.

This was our first time in and they had reservations only or open bar. We didn’t have a reservation and we were lucky to find a spot at the bar. This place is a well oiled machine, they are quick, smooth, accurate and friendly. The food, culinary gold! The tacos were some of the best I have ever had, that beef tenderloin 👌! The grilled elote is absolutely incredible and the churros are made to order, does it get any better?! Don’t forget your margarita, so good! They have plenty of seating, moderate noise level as they wants friends and families that are telling stories and having a good time. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

This was seriously some of THE BEST Mexican food I've had. Everything was reasonably priced as well. Not as many options as some other Mexican restaurants but everything we had was just delicious. The location itself is a house-tyrmed-restaurant with some patio outdoor seating. It was really loud inside (packed with people) but we were able to be seated outside almost right away; two of us, arriving about 6 or so in the evening. Parking also was pretty terrible but if you can find a spot it is worth it!

I do not know where to start. Everything was fantastic from the hostess welcoming us in to thanking us on our way out. Gabriella made it such a lovely experience for us. My girlfriend and I go out very rarely to catch up and we wanted a nice slow meal and the whole experience. Gabriella made that happen for along with providing excellent suggestions for appetizers, dinner and dessert. The drinks are strong, the food is delicious and the service was amazing. Keep in mind they have very limited parking, they do accept reservations, the floor slopes when you first get inside so watch your step. Dining outside was ideal you can hear the weather is beautiful right now and I can say we left so full, so happy and it was an all around wonderful first time experience. I look forward to going back.

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to dine at Cocina Madrigal, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we realized this was a popular spot, and I highly recommend making a reservation beforehand to secure your spot. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the incredibly friendly staff. Even though we hadn't made a reservation, they went out of their way to accommodate us. As we waited outside, they offered to turn on the misters to keep us cool under the sweltering sun. Additionally, they kindly provided us with refreshing glasses of water. Their thoughtfulness set the tone for a truly exceptional dining experience. Within a short period, we were escorted to our table. The wait was minimal, considering how busy the restaurant was. We started our culinary journey by ordering the guacamole appetizer. The moment we took our first bite, it was evident that Cocina Madrigal takes pride in using only the finest ingredients. The guacamole was incredibly flavorful and had the perfect balance of spices. It was a promising start that left us eager for more. Next, we chose the enchiladas as our main course. The portions were generous, leaving us thoroughly satisfied with the value for money. The enchiladas were a delightful amalgamation of tantalizing spices and rich flavors. Each bite was an explosion of savory goodness. The care and attention put into the dish truly showcased the expertise of the chefs at Cocina Madrigal. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Cocina Madrigal. This restaurant has the potential to become a beloved dining destination for you and your family. Make sure to plan ahead and secure a reservation for a hassle-free experience. The staff's warmth and attentiveness, along with the exceptional quality of the food, make it a standout.

An amazing experience from start to finish! The service is incredible and they are extremely attentive to your needs. As we were eating the chef came out and asked if the food was to our liking, talk about a great first impression! The food, was delicious! The flavors all came together beautifully. Highly recommended, everyone must give it a try!

The best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. Customer service was superior. I’m from Seattle and have been here twice. The first time I was in Phoenix I saw this place on Yelp and came because of its reviews, and to be honest, the positive reviews are very accurate. This place should remain a 5 stars. After I came back to Phoenix for the second time with my friends, the first thing I did was take them to Cocina Madrigal. I’ve been to Mexico, I’ve traveled all over the United States, and this is still some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. I’m planning on coming back every time I come to Phoenix. The food here really blows me away

These were the best tacos I've ever had hands down. I was genuinely shocked when eating the Beef Tenderloin Steak taco... It was so good! I live in New Mexico but I will make it a mission to come back to this place. Customer service was on par as well. Our server was very attentive and nice.

The outside might need a little bit of fixing up to be more attractive, but don't let that chase you away. Once you go into what it looks like it was a house. it's clean and nice. Food had good flavor with great presentation and filling portions. Service was very humble and friendly. Everyone worked together to make sure we were ok. Loved it! Please support small businesses.

The food here is amazing! We went out with a group of friends so we got to sample a lot of the items, starting with the trio app. The Oaxaca fundido is a must try. We also tried the barbacoa enchilada with green chilies, the Al pastor, steak, and fish tacos, and the chicken tortilla soup. Everything was very flavorful and tasty. We finished the meal trying the chipotle pie…also delicious. The service was excellent!! The only downside to our experience was a young couple walked in with their dog (not emotional support or service animal) and one of the members of our party had an allergic reaction. She would have taken allergy meds if we had known the restaurant allowed pets to dine inside.

I have just experienced a culinary epiphany. Cocicina Madrigal has transported me in a quantum leap of Mexican food flavor. I am so blown away by this food in my first vacation to Phoenix that I am determined to return to Phoenix regularly just to dine here! Seriously! I am highly critical of food. But you guys blew me away. I commend you! You are truly exceptional!

Go here. Went today Wednesday June 8th for a takeout order. Everything from the initial order on the phone, to pick up, to the food, were excellent. I had the elote, steak tacos and mesquite grilled romaine salad. I made modifications (I don't like bleu cheese) and it was easy. Person taking the order had recommendations for substitutes that were great. When we went to the restaurant every worker was wearing a mask and cleaning products were hanging around. This all leads me to the conclusion that these guys are showcasing a perfect example of how a restaurant should operate, even during a pandemic. Great chips and salsa too.

An excellent place for dinner. "A+++" as my family rates it. The margaritas were flavored well and used real ingredients. I think the mango shouldn't use a spice for the rim of the glass but that's personal preference. The vegetarian burrito was loved by the vegan, the tacos were the best I've EVER had, especially the pomegranate taco which we ordered again. The green chili barbacoa enchilada was amazing but beware that this is very spicy. People with a mild tolerance should avoid. Those who love very spicy food will enjoy it. Our server Thomas (I think) was friendly, fast, knowledgeable of the menu, and how to properly serve. Also add pineapple to the guacamole - you won't regret it ;)

Insanely good tacos! You must get the corn tortillas which are made fresh every day. I really liked the steak best but the chicken was good as well. This is a must stop in Phoenix! It’s worth every bit of a 5 star rating. The service was also top-notch!

This place had a great environment, and water spritzers spraying down everyone, which is definitely needed for outdoor dining in phx! The staff were super friendly. If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic, i would have been way more comfortable there, but every few min someone was checking in on us or refilling water or taking away empty glasses. All stuff I would be appreciative of in normal times, but at this juncture, i would have preferred waaaaay less interactivity. The food was really good though! We even tried to come back later in the evening for round 2, but didn't realize they closed before we could get back. P.s. don't get the Bye Felecia cocktail, taste reminded me of sugary cough syrup. :(

There is alot to like. A hustling, bustling local place with employees constantly in motion. This is not your chain type restaurant. You pay $3 for chips and salsa, the margaritas don't come in buckets and your plate isn't full of rice and beans. But that is what makes this really good. It is family friendly while still having more tequila you can ask for, food that is pretty on point. Beans were not soft refined but still had the taste. Really good! Mexican rice standard. Tacos were a mixed bag. Chicken overflowed with food, shrimp was tasty, fish Tacos was super bland. But overall, a great effort, friendly and energetic staff!

This place has something really special going on between their delectable dishes & wait staff! The food was absolutely delicious! The service was great. We sat at the bar and were served right away. We ordered chips and salsa and recieved them right away and our food soon after that. The chicken enchiladas were delicious as well as the rice and beans. The portions were awesome. And I had the pineapple pastor, prime rib I think and the shrimp tacos! Shrimp was delish! Drinks are not expensive.

Very impressed with everything from the friendliest of staff, to the most amazing Mexican food you will ever try. I usually won’t try enchiladas but the enchiladas here to die for. All their food from appetizer to desert is hands down the best. Now, don’t let the outside look of the building deter you away, just go in and give this place a try, you won’t regret it!

Absolutely stellar meal here! I got the tacos al pastor and my wife got the mushroom enchiladas. We also got a margarita for me and my wife chose a virgin margarita. Our 4 year old daughter got the cheeseburger and French fries. We also got a guacamole which was thick and chunky. Presentation of the food was beautiful, and the taste was incredible. Even the sides of beans and rice were excellent. Our server was very friendly and prompt. The place was very clean as well. The only negative which wasn’t the fault of the restaurant was the people sitting next to us were unbelievably loud and were dropping a bunch of f-bombs while talking. The acoustics of the restaurant can be loud. I’m not taking a star away for that though!

Food was not what I was expecting. It wasn't bad, but not something I'm going to return for. My margarita, on the other hand, was spot on! Our server took a while to even greet us and then seemed frustrated when we didn't order fast enough. I also didn't like that chips and salsa were not complimentary, because it wasn't worth the $4 to pay for it (the chips were great, but the salsa tasted like pizza sauce).

Modest, unassuming place SOUTH of the tracks, and THE RIVER! Wasn't expecting much- to be honest. Once I opened the door and all the aromas greeted me, my doubts were all cast aside. Found this place on google while visiting Phoenix and SO glad we gave it a chance! The enchiladas, both chicken and beef, were the best we’ve ever tried. Tacos Al Pastor were delicious. Service from the bartender was on point and best yet, the owner Leo came out and chatted with us for quite some time! What a great first impression! Wish we lived here to be able to indulge in this delicious food more frequently!

The beef tacos were the best. My wife and I also got the Trio appetizer and it was huge. Could have easily gotten just the appetizer and a few drinks and we would have been full. I also thought the house margarita was very good too

Its a small sit down place but the food. Is. Phenomenal. Excellent. And the service is so warm and friendly, we were waited on hand and foot, it was a very pleasant surprise for us. The enchaladas are so good, the salsa is amazing and the tacos are so good, and with prices like they have its hard to go anywhere else. As you can clearly, we cleaned our plates and those salsa cups ?

This is my favourite place to eat. The food is always good. I got the same dish I always get when I come here. This time I decided to add a cup of the chicken tortilla soup. I have never had it and was not sure what to expect. It was really good. I liked the flavours that it had. There was some dark meat in the soup too which probably adds good flavour. I can not wait to get a bowl of it before my meal. The owner was in the lobby and I got to chat with him for a second. What a great place to eat. Stop by and get some take out. You can tell by the reviews the food is good.

Like many of the reviews I read before going to this place said, it is a gem. My buddy had the steak tacos and the El pastor tacos and was very impressed and satisfied. They were fantastic. I had the mushroom enchiladas at the recommendation of our server and they were excellent (and vegetarian if you care). Both my friend and I have big appetites and have traveled all over the planet seeking out the best food. This was the best meal we had traveling across the country from Florida to California. So, if you are in Phoenix, there is a reason that this place is voted the number 1 Mexican restaurant (I would call it Mexican fusion). Furthermore, I have rarely had a more attentive, informative, and pleasant server. My hat is off to Dawnae our server. From the first moment she approached our table I could tell that she was proud of the options she had to present to us and her energy only made us more excited to be there. Most places on these review sites get 4 1/5 stars and are actually pretty mediocre. This place is not. P.S. If you like spicy like I do, let them know and you wont be let down. Randall

Original menu. Original dishes, with traditional flavors. This place is truly 5 stars, the service, the quality, the atmosphere, and the food are all spectacular. The Oaxacan fundido is just incredible, mushrooms and onions and chorizo all covered in Oaxaca cheese - blew my mind. The hand made fresh corn tortillas are perfect. Good but perhaps a little overrated. The food is nicely done. We had all the different enchiladas on offer. The flavor of the mushroom enchiladas could use a little wake up, or spice up. The mole on the beef and the Verde on the pork just needed a little more sauce to be flavorful. Beans and rice were clean but nothing surprising to the palette or worth mentioning. Rounding off the meal with a not great cup of coffee and a trip to a less than clean bathroom. The location and ambience were equal to the rest of the review. Expected more from the number one rated Mexican restaurant on TripAdvisor.

The salsa was spicy so for those who like a little kick you'll appreciate it. The steak taco was delicious. The steak was tender with a good balance of bleu cheese. Not a super fan myself of shrimp tacos but it fell apart but whatever sauce they used was good. The service was alright but instead of lemons for the water we recieved yellow oranges.

I stumbled upon the gem as I arrived in past normal dinner hours. The previous reviews all spoke highly so I was motivated to try this place. First, don't be alarmed by the humble building. This place is about food, not architecture. With that said, it's very clean. I ordered chicken enchiladas and mushroom enchilada. In any restaurant, the Chicken Enchilada would have been great. In this restaurant, it was just "good" because I paired it with the Mushroom Enchilada which was fantastic! I was second-guessing myself before ordering it because it had no meat. Don't let that deter you. The flavor is worth it and it was packed just as full as my chicken enchilada. The co-owner was very friendly. He took the time to (actually) sit and discuss items on the menu. Once I had finished eating, he asked for comments, suggestions, etc. Absolutely no ego. The other co-owner is the chef and it's clear he has experience at high-level restaurants. The food is too original, flavorful, and perhaps intelligent for him not to have experience with putting together a menu. If you are looking for authentic flavors and quality food, you must try this place.

I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt this is the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. And I’ve had Mexican all over the US. When we pulled in the parking lot, I immediately was not expecting such an unpretentious building. But don’t let its simplicity fool you into thinking the food is anywhere near simple. We were immediately seated for our reservation. Where drinks were already ready for us. Our amazing waiter Shilo(sp?) was exceptional. Not only did he get our large group order perfect, we were never in need of anything. He was on top of every detail. Everything is made to order, we were not only allowed to make any changes to our liking, we were almost encouraged to. We all tried different items. But it started with the most perfect homemade tortilla chips and salsa followed by delicious guacamole. I can’t think of one item that didn’t blow our mind. It’s truly a culinary experience that will possibly ruin me for any other Mexican fare. I’ll travel back to Phoenix just to come here. Amazing!

Tucked away in a part of town you wouldn't think to visit is this hidden gem. My husband and I were convinced to check this place out after reading the incredible reviews here on Google. They were spot on! As many have stated, don't focus on the building, focus on the food-which is mouthwatering! We vacationed in Cabo last year and I can honestly say this food was even better. My husband and I had the tacos and loved that you could mix and match instead of having to have 3 of the same. The guacamole was life changing and the margaritas were some of the best I've ever tasted. Amazing food, great atmosphere, and wonderful staff! We're in town for a week and plan on returning at least once or twice again before we leave. This place does it perfectly!

I originally wanted to go to this restaurant based on it having 5 stars, with 1600 yelps reviews. That pretty impressive, for a restaurant. The quality of food was great and its guacamole was like a little food heaven in your mouth.

Great food and excellent service. A man at a different table had a stroke while we were there. Our friend helped him till paramedics came. Manager took half off our bill for helping. Very nice, he didn't have to however very kind. Churros so good.

This place is really amazing. Our server Daniel was so helpful, kind and prompt he was exceptional. The food is also delicious I liked the beef and fish tacos the best. Guacamole is a must it is actually delicious. For dessert we tried the churros and coconut cream pie. I am not usually a fan of either of these items but I found them so good I couldn’t put my fork down.

After a long travel day and missing breakfast we were looking for some comfort food. My wife looked up this spot on Yelp and the reviews were great. I trust Yelp and the reviews were right on. The food was amazing and the service was superb. Even the chips and salsa were top notch. We each had tacos. The house margarita was excellent. So good we had 2. We were so impressed by everything that we ordered dessert just to be sure. The churros were the Cherry on top. If I’m ever in the area again I will be sure to visit. So good!

Very good food, exceptional staff! Tried the Gucamole de Casa, Wild mushroom enchilada and Roasted Seasoned Vegetables Taco. The chips and salsa were very fresh, especially the Habanero salsa. The guacamole was a bit underwhelming though, I was expecting a bit more of the spices to come through. You can mix and match Tacos from the menu, and one of the Tacos I ordered was the Al Pastor, which I hoped would be turned to no-meat after removing the pork. That turned out not to be the case and had to return that particular Taco. Shiloh was our waiter and he navigated through this really well and was extremely friendly. The vegetable taco was fine, the shells particularly were exceptional. The wild mushroom enchilada was out of the world, bursting with flavor and having a very creamy texture. A definite to-try for mushroom lovers. It would be wonderful if there were more vegetarian options though. Definitely would come for a second time!

Eating/drinking at Bliss during C-19 is definitely different and not the same as before but despite this, it has still been a GREAT and SAFE experience. They sanitize all tables before you can sit, limit groups sizes, masks are required, there are outside areas to sit in, etc. I feel safe and come a few times a week. One suggestion/ recommendation I would prefer is if there could be someone at the entrance checking temps prior to entering. This is something other places are doing during the pandemic that makes me feel better about being in public. Food is really great too. Try the Mac & cheese (spicy or w chicken) and/ or the nachos appetizer is also pretty good. They’re shareable portions too so I would share with a friend /split the meal All the servers here are top-notch as well! You will not be disappointed with any of them. Literally some of the friendliest people of the LGBTQ businesses that are out there. They actually converse with you and talk about stuff. They don’t just brush you off and rudely serve you like some other places do. TLDR; I definitely recommended coming to Bliss for either lunch or dinner + drinks. Their service the past few months has been amazing for me & my friends! SAFETY appears to be a top priority right now. The servers/ bartenders are awesome and the food is solid too! 😊

if i could give this place a zero i would. took about 30 mins just to get drinks and about another 30 mins just to get our food for all of it to come warm-cold. we had to request for our order to be taken because our waiter seemed to have forgotten about us. he only checked on us one time to ask us if the drinks were ok and did we want anymore like after sitting here for for so long you’d think he’d want to take our food. i definitely won’t be returning & will not recommend this place to anyone.

Popular local spot! It's a good thing we made reservations or we would have been waiting awhile. You will need an Uber or car to get here as it's away from city center just outside a residential area. We had some of the BEST service we've had in years here, and that's with the restaurant bursting at the seams with guests. Angel was attentive and thorough. The food is the real deal, the salsa is no joke, and the steak was tender and the salad fresh. Be careful with the margaritas: so good, sooooooooo strong! Very reasonable prices, but you can spend a lot if you're ordering drinks, especially if you jump into their extensive tequila menu. Single story, so easily wheelchair accessible. Two single bathrooms (one for women, one for men AND women? Seems like it'd be easier to just make them non-gendered, but hey, there are options!) I will say that it was a pretty noisy space.

The food and service are spectacular! Trio appetizer was excellent with some of the best guacamole I've ever had. Also, the mushroom fondito was to die for. They also feature a wild mushroom enchilada that I can't even begin to describe. I highly recommend this place. A hidden gem in the Phoenix area for sure.

Absol "I recently had the privilege of dining at Cocina Madrigal and words can hardly capture the enchantment I experienced there. My roots trace back to Mexico, with parents hailing from Oaxaca, and I've always yearned for that authentic taste that could transport me back in time. This restaurant did just that. The moment I tasted their rice, it was as if I had been transported to my grandmother's kitchen, where she would lovingly prepare that same special dish for me. Grandmother's love is truly unconditional, and reliving that feeling was nothing short of electrifying and extraordinary. I shared this culinary journey with my son and husband, allowing them to taste the essence of love through food. The service was impeccable, with the staff consistently checking in on us, making us feel like cherished guests. The food itself was an exquisite blend of flavors that felt like a warm embrace, a genuine homecoming. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough; it is a place where memories are made, and the flavors of the past are beautifully preserved. It's an experience that will linger in your heart long after the meal is over."

I’ve had this spot on my list to to try for a while now and finally got the opportunity to have lunch here. Parking was a challenge during lunch time, I ended up having to park across the street. I was able to get seated right away. The place is pretty underwhelming inside. Small and not much in the way of decor. The chips and salsa were so good, amazing fresh homemade tasting salsa, you had to pay extra for them unlike most Mexican food restaurants that just come with your food. I had the tropical fish tacos and my partner had Birria enchiladas. I thought my tacos were decent, but had a strong fishy flavor which usually means it’s not very fresh. The enchiladas were good, and very cheesy, but nothing really blew me away. Seemed like every other Mexican restaurant I’ve eaten at. I didn’t get to try the margaritas, but they looked really good. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to eat here again, but maybe if I was in the area.

Had an awesome time with awesome food. The dude who was waiting on us (sorry!!!! Forgot his name) was also awesome and gave me the kind of compliment that will probably stick with me forever (something like I seemed like I had good energy). Also when he saw I was thorsty for water he brought me like five glasses so i didn't have to wait. I drank most of them lol A+, highly recommended.

We visited right after arriving at the airport after seeing a story about their Yelp rating. We were promptly seated and did have a reservation. We started with chips and salsa, which were warm, thin, and crispy. The salsa was zesty, and the guacamole was chunky and perfectly seasoned. We ordered the fundido to accompany our starter, which was smokey and flavorful. Our mains were tacos al pastor and chicken enchiladas, and both dishes were wonderful. The al pastor was tender, and the pickled radishes, onion, and cilantro were pleasing to my palate. The sides of pinto beans and rice were delicious as well. The shredded chicken and cheese on the enchiladas were extremely tender and well seasoned. Each bite was a flavor explosion, and our taste buds were dancing. We washed our meal down with jalapeño & prickly pear margaritas, which were both perfectly made and just the right strength of alcohol. The ambiance of the restaurant, which is situated in an older commercial/residential area, was lively and it was packed by 1:00 p.m. Our server Ana was sweet and personable and checked on us throughout our meal. Cocina Madrigal definitely lived up to the hype, and I highly recommend it to visitors and locals alike.

Oh my! So good!! It's been a bleak start to 2024 as we have family with a major health crisis. Traffic was nasty, so we Googled the best Mexican near me. & it is absolutely the best Mexican food I've had in a very long time.

  • 2/5 Samantha C. 3 months ago on Google New
Based on the reviews being so high, this was a let down. The jalapeno bacon Mac and cheese was awesome. Drinks were great....but that's about it. Queso fundido was just a bunch of mushrooms with a little cheese melted on top. Not good and not queso dip like at all. Beans were not great. Meat quality was good but all lacking flavor.
