A great place for coffee drinks. The staff are great. Sign up and get rewards, they give military discount when buying. Have a Carmel Dark Chocolate blended.or Toasted Marshmallow with Peppermint or Carmel. Tonya & Brooke are great & everyone.

3rd time coming here and they messed up my order again. 1st time I ordered the sugar free coffee 2nd time I ordered the sugar free coffee - made it regular sugar 3rd time (today) I ordered the carmel blondie and a apple cinnamon muffins - got a blueberry something? Despite the long wait time I was excited to try something new I would like but they messed up again. I won't be returning for another 8$ mess up. 1 star for the 2 times the drinks were right and tasted good.

I’m not sure what all the excitement is about this place. Ordered an iced white mocha and it tasted EXACTLY the same as an iced coffee with a little cream and sugar. I asked them if they had actually made the right drink and they said they had. It was clearly just coffee vs. espresso, as there were no espresso shots pulled from a machine. I should have just ordered an iced coffee, for half the price! Won’t be back.

I’m very disappointed in Black Rock unfortunately. The past few times I went to Black Rock they under-filled my coffee. It’s become the norm. My cup literally was a good 2 inches under the rim. This has happened multiple times. I’ve now taken my business to Starbucks and they fill their coffee to the top. I‘D love for Black Rock to be successful since it’s right by my house and helps the neighborhood but I can’t go there knowing I’ll pay for a large and get a medium.

The coffee was delightful! I had the caramel truffle and my partner had the blackout coffee. The caramel truffle is the perfect balance of sweet and bitter, and it's my favorite drink from any restaurant. The issue was with the guy at the window, who was very pushy and creepy in conversation while we waited for the coffee. He asked us 5 times where we were going, where we had come from, and what we were doing that day. Each time my partner deflected, he would ask again, getting pushier each time. It made us both feel extremely uncomfortable, because he became more and more poignant with his questions. It is not normal to be that invasive in stranger's personal lives, and it made us wonder why he wanted to know where we were going so badly. It's not his business, nor would anyone in their right mind give a stranger a detailed rundown of their daily comings and goings if they want to stay safe in the world we live in. Whoever was working the window on Friday July 7th around 3:30-4:00 could really benefit from some extra customer service training. It is okay to ask how someone's day is going, but it should never become overly personal or interrogative. If a customer doesnt want to talk, the representative needs to respect that. We were very concerned with his behavior. Phoenix has human trafficking problems, and this guy set off some major red flags for us. It was obvious we were uncomfortable with his questions, and he did not care in the slightest. Scary.

A chilled caramel truffle was excellent. It was sweet but not overpowering. There was a wonderful amount of cream cheese on the warmed bagel. Will be back to try other drinks!

TLDR: The phone isn’t answered live so you can’t reach anyone. Drinks are not labeled so you don’t know what they are. (Knowing which drink is sugar free or not is VERY important). We ordered two drinks. One is a SUGAR FREE, strawberry flavored drink. The other is NOT sugar free, and is watermelon flavored. The cups are not marked so we don’t know which drink is what for sure. If you call the store phone number listed on Google maps, the message at any store’s location state that “messages go the store manager, and will be returned the next day.” As a food service company, that there a lot of important reasons why you may want to be able to be contacted right away about your product. (Spoiled product, contaminated product, foreign objects in product, etc). In this case, one has sugar and the other doesn’t. That’s very important if someone isn’t able to have sugar. It could be for a serious matter, and no one can be contacted…

We love Black Rock! It’s always so good and the service is friendly and quick! Today, we went in excited to order a ham croissant and some iced dirty chais. Right after placing our order at the counter, they let us know the croissants were sold out even though there was no sign up. We got a maple Cronut instead which was PHENOMENAL. 11/10. anyway, the card reader was having issues and they ended up not charging us for our order which was extremely kind. We can’t recommend this place enough!

I just want to keep coming back to this coffee shop again and again! I like the taste of their coffee and the ambiance because it was so relaxing. Their staves were also very professional and friendly. I can really recommend your coffee shop to all of my friends here in our area. Thank you so much for your kindness, guys!

Coffee ratings: 4.5 stars Quality of service: 1 star. Pro tip: Drive-thru is priority, don't go in for faster service as you will wait 4x as long. I have been enjoying Black Rock since it opening in this area and also annoyed it when I lived in Mesa. Lately I have had lots of issues with my order not being correct which I attributed to the times and didn't think too much of it. This week was the last straw for me. I went in to order because the drive-thru was wrapped around the building. There were 2 people in front of me ordering and one that ordered after me. They all received their drinks before me, including the person behind me! (I ordered 2 drinks, so did they). I asked if my drinks were coming and was told they were coming soon. Next I watched white truck go past the entrance and then promptly show up at the drive-thru window. They received their drink before the crew even started mine! I asked if there was a manager at this point as the drive-thru was now cleared and I didn't have my drinks. This was when the person making drinks was identified as the manager. I asked her why I still did not have my drinks? She informed me mine were coming and that drive-thru takes priority! I responded to her that this makes sense to a point, but reminded her that someone ordered after me inside and her response was to not address this fact and simply advise she was now making my drinks. No apology. I did report this to corporation was received a very short apology that did not taking ownership for what happened and only that they had given my loyalty account credit for the two drinks. To close I prefer CBTL or Dutch Bros but would go to Black Rock because it was closer to work. I will now be going out of my way for a better experience and coffee.

I frequently visit this location and have had positive experiences majority of the time. There have been a couple of isolated issues with my orders, but it is rare. The staff is friendly and I really appreciate their rewards program they offer. I hope to see a Black Rock added to the far north valley eventually. It is much needed.

The seasonal coffee drinks here are really good! The baristas were quick and very kind. I felt bad because their register wasn’t working and the line got super long but they handled the situation calmly and professionally. This shop is in an easy to reach location too with plenty of parking. Drive through is available as well if you don’t want to stop inside.

I used to be loyal to Starbucks but a Black Rock went up in my neighborhood and I was converted after the first sip. The coffee quality is top notch. Smooth and flavorful. The girls that work here are pretty awesome too. Super friendly and the one time they made my drink wrong they were happy to fix it on the house. Really looking forward to when their seating opens up.

The best Java jerks in the Valley--no contest! The roast is perfection. The brew, sublime. So many delicious options and alternative milks that there is literally something for everyone. Their pastries are always fresh. The wait is never more than 5 minutes even if the line is wrapped around the building, and my order has never been wrong in the literally 5x/wk I've been hitting them up since they opened at 35th Ave/Greenway. And the staff- always wonderful. Shout out to Levi who always makes my day!

Love the coffee just wish the customer service was better. Just left the window and the guy helping me was too busy talking about his night with his co worker. I just sat there with my card out, just keep talking, no acknowledgement, didn't tell me my total, didn't offer receipt, really no communication at all except with his work buddy

Amazing place to go. I'm glad they opened up on 35th Ave and Greenway. They really add a needed service to the entire neighborhood—fast coffee near a big intersection. Great taste and reasonable prices and it's all really fast too!

Nice looking shop. Friendly people. Terrible coffee and uncreative menu. Coffee is very dark. Even their medium roast is roasty (dark… likely second crack). Coffee menu is mostly just a Starbucks knockoff. When I first saw the place I hoped it would be more of a specialty shop, or at least had taken some cues from specialty third-wave coffee (with quality, nicely roasted coffees available). I mean why not? Starbucks has already been done. Why do it again? Why not do something creative?

Sorry, many of our friends recommend this place, but I observed during our first (and only) visit: the girls who work there grabbing their masks then touching people's food and drinks. GROSS, and even in AZ, that has to be a health code violation

The team at Black Rock Coffee Bar rock! They are always friendly and professional. They go out of their way to make customers feel welcome. Abby does a great job managing the team, and they are thriving under her care. Patricia, Andrea, and Zoey always make me feel welcome when I visit.

Coffee is good, layout of the space inside is nice, patio is great. I come daily with my husband even though food choices are limited and none healthy. Biggest complaint is MUSIC IS TOO LOUD!!!! Have to repeat orders to cashiers every time. We cant have conversation unless we sit outside.

I’m giving three stars because if it wasn’t for my single complaint, I’d give it a 5. I am a visual person, so I order based on what I see on the menu (like most) and when I see whip on top, I assume it’s going to have it. But I never get it. Was told I have to ask for whip 🤔🤔 that’s like ordering a sausage McMuffin and not getting the sausage to me 😂 please start asking if we want whip or not 🥴 I will say their maple donut is bomb.com though

I have been going to black rock for about 2-3 years now. There's a gentlemen (shoulder lengthen hair) that works the window at my location, that I need to rave about. Unfortunately, I don't think we exchanged names however he lights up my world when I get to see him. I thought he left but this where it gets all mushy. I swear on my darkest days he works. There's days when I struggle so much with depression and anxiety and ptsd. On some of my lowest weeks he sparked light in my dark world. He knows I was bullied at my last job and he always wants to know that I am doing ok, always listens without rushing me, and MOST IMPORTANTLY leaves me with a huge smile on my face and my heart singing, He brings so much light and love into this world. I don't know how to thank him for something so lovely and priceless. He keeps me coming back even when I have coffee at home. In conclusion, Thank you for hiring him. Otherwise I would've never been blessed with his greatness.

I love this place! The drinks are so delicious! The people are incredibly friendly! They smile, look you in the eye, ask you how you’re doing or what you have planned. So unusual in today’s world. I used to only go once in a while as a treat but I love it so much I go there regularly now to sit and get work done while I sip my latte and then take home drinks for my kids.

Black Rock coffee has always been and will continue to be my go-to coffee spot. Ordered a Large Hot Jackhammer today through a third party delivery app and I was not disappointed. Not only did it arrive hot, but the espresso tastes delicious and NOT burnt. I am extremely happy with black rock and I would recommend this local spot over Starbucks (or any other spot) any day of the week.

Good place to study; good coffee and such. Limited seating. Staff is busy but they'll get to you as promptly as they can. HOWEVER, if you're allergic to bees, don't linger. There's a hive somewhere on or around the building and they're getting inside the often open door. It's a massive liability issue if someone like myself gets stung, but the (possibly too young to know better) employees seem intent on ignoring it.

Did the drive thru on my way to class and gave 15% tip on my card then gave $4 cash, the man looked at it and chuckled. He turns to the woman behind him and says "Ooh we're rich! We got a $4 tip!" I felt embarrassed and regretted giving him anything. Driving away my friend says to me, "I don't think you're supposed to tip Baristas". I've never been treated like that at Starbucks. From now on I will drive further to go to Starbucks

I picked this place because I try to support local. BUT They don't know what Chai is. I ordered an iced Chai Latte & they literally gave me vanilla & cinnamon flavor shots in my milk (according to my mouth). I only drank it because I had already taken insulin for the carbs of a chai. I drove 4 miles out of the way today to make sure my pallet wasn't confused taking my first sip at Union just now is what I expect from a chai latte.

It's a coffee place, I come for the Coffee! It is delicious stuff, puts Starbucks to shame in my opinion. My go-to is their Blackout Blended, add a couple extra shots, no whip,no drizzle (delicious with both but no need for the sugar)! I'd say 3 out of 4 times they get it right! Sometimes I wonder if they forgot the extra shots, but it could just be my tastebuds overly anticipating the caffeine liquid gold I am treating them to..... Food, this isn't a fast food restaurant .... it's so so - GET COFFEE NO FOOD NEEDED!

Great atmosphere, everyone was super nice and the coffee was fantastic. My only problem is that a few of the men were wearing muscle shirts. Armpit hair is not the thing that I want to see when someone is making my coffee…

Love love this place! Everybody is nice and friendly! Never go anywhere else & this is miles out of my way & past 4 other coffee shops. But I just love the service & coffe! I stop as often as I can on my way to work, get my favorite Carmel Blonde. Usually get hot but love it iced or blende. Thank you for bring a new coffee place to town other than the same old same old!!

This just opened near me, the coffee is great! The other big coffee place recently discontinued most of the sugar free options, so I am glad to have another option near me. My only complaint is the thing they do at the window after I pay with my card, asking me if I'd like to add a tip. I wish they would just have a tip jar available, and maybe just let me decide if I want to offer a tip, without the awkward request. As far as I know, they do not make server wages, of course, tips are always welcome, but being asked for a tip is just uncomfortable. Please stop with this policy.

  • 5/5 V R. 3 years ago on Google
This is a great place. Reminds me of a more modern Dutch Bros. I really wish the drinks would be a bit bigger, but overall all the drinks are great.

  • 1/5 Brandon P. 3 years ago on Google
When you ask for "very light ice" it means a half cup ice to them. The next two times I went, they did the same thing, and when I asked for less ice, they told me any less ice than a half of a cup and they would have to charge me for the next size up...absurd! Left management a voice-mail asking for a follow up and it was never returned. Best coffee in the area, with less than desirable customer service. What a shame! Won't be going back.
