Lovely walk around the small exhibits, free entry. The Phuket timeline is very interesting for those wanting to see where it has come from in the tin mining industry to tourism, right up-to-day with COVID-19. Upstairs is a Chinese influence history and a well done VR experience.

Free entrance and fully air-conditioned. A good place to learn more about Phuket history, as well as to take a rest while touring the old town with heat outside

Very good museum in the heart of Phuket Town. They have 2 separate buildings, across the street. One building was the bank and the other was police station. Interesting information you can found inside the museum. One building explains about the people and culture of Phuket and the others about history and development of the town. Many unique pictures, paintings and statue. Worth to go while you in town. Enjoy Phuket. Enjoy Thailand.

For such as tiny museum, the exhibition was suprisingly quite modern and engaging with the use of projections and 3D effects. And the fact that the place is air-conditioned makes it a nice brief stop to refresh yourself when touring Old Phuket Town.

Good little museum to showcase the history and cultural heritage of Phuket. After this visit, there are some food item to try in Phuket from understanding the food culture of the Baba / Peranakan.

A small museum about history of Phuket town. Because it is very small, it takes only around 10 mins to see everything here. To be honest, the exhibition here is not that interesting. However, the most interesting part is the history of the building. Here is used to be the police station but now is preserved as a historical building along with the building across the street which is the first Bank in Phuket (The Chartered Bank). When you see from outside, you could see the unique roofing style and the clock tower which is very iconic scenery of Phuket town. Moreover, it is also a few remaining of Sino-Portuguese Building.

A small museum, about the other history of Phuket that few knew about (including me) - Tin mining.. where Phuket had its start and eventually tourism took over. Ground floor only and an additional small exhibit behind a screen.. some interesting wooden crafts. Glad I came. Entrance free. Log in requested via LINE ID.

One of the nice places to come sightseeing at Phuket old town. You can also see how this looked in 2014 on Google maps before it was restaurated (was an old white building). I would suggest the following: - Ancient buildings in Sino-European style - ศูนย์อาหารปุ๊นเต๋ภูเก็ต Local and Street Food Market - Hog's Head Pub - Saeng Tham Shrine - Phuket Town Old Historical Streets - Hai Leng Ong Statue (Golden Dragon Monument) - Phuket 3D Museum - Phuket Baba Museum - Museum Phuket (Phuket Nagara) - Surin Circle Clock Tower - Check for street graffiti during your walk

[NB: This review is for the Phuket Baba Museum, a.k.a. the Peranakannitat Museum, in Phuket Town, not the other Baba Museum in Phuket, which sounds lovely!] Don't waste your time. This building is attractive from the outside, and the gold jewelry collection in the old vault, as well as the gorgeous furniture in the lobby area, is well worth a 10-minute stop; but don't wait around for the second floor to open. There's not actually a museum display upstairs; instead, it's a 30-minute "new media" presentation across 5 rooms: two that involve mostly (entirely?) CGI videos portraying a young Chinese boy immigrating to Phuket, plus a virtual tour (with chunky, clunky renderings) of what the building might have looked like back when it was a home; a video of a woman washing laundry and children playing with water projected against a backdrop of the kitchen area; a video portraying women's traditional clothing patterns projected against a mannequin; and videos of food cooking, projected in giant skillets and pots. It's...weird, to say the least, and there are much better things to be doing in the area--but at least this is free, so if you need some air conditioning, I suppose it's a decent way to kill 30 minutes. As of February 2018, the new media presentation happened at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Free of charge We went there despite the mediocre reviews to escape the heat and were not disappointed at all. The staff at the entrance was friendly. Quite small museum but nice interactive informative displays. Loved the Chinese culture aspects. Definitely on the emptier side due to Covid.

Beautiful! Located around some beautiful building. Doesn’t look like Thailand but the old town is like that, just impressive! Can be very hot in day time, because it’s better to visit by walk, walking around the street for 1/2hours if you stop in some shops, make pictures.... not to much shades as well....

The Peranakannitat Museum (also called Baba Museum) is divided into 2 buildings: Phuket Nagar (building with clock tower) and Peranakannitat (building on the other side of Phang Nga Road). You should start your tour in the second building. Both buildings are in the Sino-Portuguese style. It tells about the history of Phuket and its culture. Entrance to the museum is free. It is worth to visit this museum when walking around the Old Town in Phuket.

In the central of Oldtown Phuket. The building itself can be considered as the main attraction of Phuket Oldtown... A vibrant yellow color and if you lucky enough visiting at nite may see the building lighted by colorful LED.... No ticket fee to visit, just register yourself at the reception by informing which country you are from and how many people together with you... Visit the building without the tower first then cross the street for the one with tower... A settlement phase of Phuket islands is in display, starting from people coming for mining until recent days as one of main tourism area in Thailand....

  • 2/5 Jennifer S. 5 months ago on Google
Glad it’s free. Reception is extremely friendly, AC is great ha. Exhibits themselves are a bit disjointed; in terms of chronological order. But I understood a bit more on Phuket’s history and the Peranakan background, so at least that’s good! Spent no more than 20 minutes. Beautiful Peranakan furniture in the lobby. The adjacent building across the street has toilets and you’re able to climb the clock tower… but the roof is sealed off, so a bit disappointing there.

Free of cost. It was so interesting. You can actually go and wear traditional thai dress and have a photoshoot all FREE OF COST!! Additional bonus= it's near a beautiful city centre , you can make videos and pictures when the traffic stops at red light. Highlight of my trip. Absolutely loved it!!

This museum is a great place! It's a two-story museum with a diverse collection, including old furniture, interactive exhibits, vintage photos, and informative displays in both Thai and English. I wasn't bored at all and took a lot of photos. The entrance is free. It will take about an hour for a full exploration of the collection.
