The Cantonment Church Tower is a church tower in Karnal city of Haryana, India. It is a historical religious shrine in Karnal. It stands near National Highway 1 of India. It has been declared as a historical monument by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. It was the tower of St. James' Church, Karnal, dedicated to St. James, one of disciples of Jesus Christ. The tower is 35 m tall, and is surmounted by an ornamental cross. The huge tower is located between the infantry parade and race course. With the establishment of British cantonment at Karnal, St. James' Church was constructed in AD 1806 by the British. In 1841, when the cantonment was shifted to Ambala, the church was dismantled, but the tower was allowed to stay as it had been built out of the subscriptions of the public who objected to its dismantlement. It was built to meet the challenge of rising power of the Sikh military in the region.

Deserted place. Even no caretaker is present, though it is preserved by Archaeological Survey of India.

Nothing much other than the tower. Won't take you more than 10 minutes to finish it's experience. Maps will show a stop before it reaches. Take the car a few metres ahead and you would spot a small gate

A must visit place if you are planning for karnal. In the morning it is very peaceful and calm. One can spend easily one hour walking around the tower and sitting in the garden which is well maintained. Place is very soothing for relaxing with family and friends.

We were amazed to see this church tower. It is part of the archeological department. They are maintaining well but they have neglected the British cemetery which is next to this tower. There used to be a cross on top but we couldn't see it maybe people must have broken it.

It is a dismantled church established in year 1804 AD when Karnal was the cantonment area for Britishers. Britishers then shifted cantonment area from Karnal to Ambala, so at time they dismantled this Karnal church leaving only the tower. The British era Graveyard is in left side of the church and Indian graveyard (new) is in the right side of the Church.

This is a cemetery between 18 and eighteen hundred and 19 of British time, here many British people are buried and there is a jail near it, meaning there is a court room, there is a large area of about 10-15 court rooms and which is now is being reconstructed and is a very old historical place

It's a peaceful place for sitting for spending some quiet time. Please don't come here with food or anything that litters the place.
