We didn't even stay for 15 minutes. The "concierge" was rude as hell. The rooms are super small, even smaller "mini" fridge, mine didn't even have shelves so was useless. Room and entire building for that matter, reeked of cigarettes and weed. Looks more like a hostel with all the vagrants coming in and out high on who knows what. Would not recommend this whatsoever. You'd be better off sleeping in your car. Only positive note was the one cleaning lady who was very polite and apologetic, even though the problems had nothing to do with her.

Had to stay at a hotel for a night as we had no power or water in our home during renovation. Front desk lady was pleasant and that was all that was pleasant about this place. Rooms are non smoking but as soon as you walk the hallway you smell smoke and the room was just as bad. Rooms are outdated. Mostly the bathroom. We walk into the elevator and see 5 guys that looked like they came from a bar fight carrying cases of beer. We checked out just as fast as we checked in. If you are looking for a party hotel this is your place. Other wise look else where

I was freaked out after reading the reviews of cockroaches and bed bugs...thankfully did not see either. However the claim that it is a party hotel was true. The guests adjacent to our room stayed awake through to 7am drinking and arguing as well as telling their dogs to shut up. Smell of smoke and weed through the night. Room was clean enough however very institution-like and not at all luxurious or comfortable. 2/5

Room was tiny with no temperature controls, no coffee machine, no fridge, no fan in the bathroom and no space. The room kept getting extremely hot, so hot we had to sleep with window open (in the winter).

Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else. All you expect when booking a budget friendly hotel is a clean room and a comfortable bed. This place has neither. The bathroom was covered in hair, and had holes in the floor. They "cleaned" the bathroom a second time and it still had hair clumps in the tub, and on the walls. The mattress is either very cheap or very old. The vinyl floor was peeling. We would have left but there were no other hotel rooms available locally.

I read the reviews with a grain of salt, and booked one night stay. Based on the location and price I had my exectations already set. Here's the tea; The location is right off the highway and close to downtown Whitby so expect a mix of guests staying here. It appears to be currently housing transitioning refugee claimants who were polite and respectful, but there are occassional conversations happening in the hallway and you can hear people in their rooms. This was not an issue for me. Having long term guests means that people are cooking in their rooms and so there is a smell of food - similar to living in an apartment building. This was not a problem for me. There was a definite odor of cigarette smoke though, and as far as I am aware this is not disallowed in any hotel/motel in the area and they usually charge a cleaning fee after the fact to guests who smoke in their rooms. But yes there are people currently smoking in their rooms. Only an issue in the hallways, my room was very clean. I did not have any bugs - they have hardwood floors in the room which I always prefer as they are cleaner than carpet and easier to clean in between guests. The state of the room was what I would expect for the price I paid - all materials (towels, sheets etc. were clean) the building has been maintained pretty well, but it is an older building. This was not an issue for me. ALL hotels/motels take a deposit for incidentals. If you have a credit card they put this as a hold on your credit card (not a charge) and this is reversed after they determine your room was left in an adequate state which you do not need to be present for. If you do not have a credit card they will usually take cash or charge your debit card and then reverse the transaction later when you check out so leave time for them to inspect your room. This is a standard that any traveller will be aware of and shouldn't come as a surprise. Though I do think $200 for one night is high compared to other hotels I have stayed at, as long as you leave the room in a good state you will get this back. On check out they told me what time that day I can expect the hold to be released. If for some reason that doesn't happen I will update my review but so far this is not an issue for me. Plenty of parking. Walking distance to lots of food options. Online photos are outdated and included things like a fridge, which were not in my room. This was not an issue for me. If you require such amenities I suggest you call in advance to ensure you have access to it. Perfect stop over on a long trip if you're tired and want to rest.

From the gracious welcoming staff to the management this particular Motel 6 has taken hospitality to the next level. If there is anything to be said about me and my wife Lisa's stay here is just that we felt we are at home. Julie and Calvan are the two responsible for the greatness that is this motel. The maids to the front counter attendants make sure that your stay is perfect with their beautiful smiles Nd great attitudes go above and beyond the call of duty and do it with a sense of true graciousness from the heart. All I can say is that if you are visiting the cool downtown Whitby area or are wondering where you want to just relax for the night or two this is your place and you won't regret it.

Didn’t have a chance to stay here, but would give this motel a negative review if it were possible. I booked an accessible room here for multiple nights this week a couple months ago. I stressed the entire time how important it was that we received the accessible room for my quadriplegic partner. I even sent my mom, who lives close, to check the room in person to ensure it was sufficient for our needs. Both the manager and the clerk guaranteed that the room booked for us was the accessible room. Now today, the day before check in, I called to confirm our reservation was still good to go for tomorrow. I was told that we were bumped from the accessible room to a regular room because the person in the accessible room extended their stay. I received no communication from the motel about this. A standard room will not work for our needs, my partner will not be able to use the bathroom or shower. The lady who answered our calls today was less than helpful and informed us that they are “between owners/don’t have managers”. Sorry, what? Apparently there is nothing they nor head office can do to rectify their disgusting service. The flight lands tomorrow and now we have no where to stay. I’m scrambling to find a suitable hotel and not having any luck. How can a chain motel such as Motel 6 discriminate so easily against the disabled community? It is disgusting and pathetic that they can so easily bump a disabled person from a room they need to fulfill their basic needs. My family will not be supporting this chain in the future and they should be embarrassed that this is how they conduct business.

This was the absolute worst hotel experience we have ever had. There clearly has been a significant water damage and no one thought to advise. There were industrial fans everywhere, including outside our door. Several cracks in the floor and the bathroom was disgusting. We ended up unable to stay as it was so awful and our weekend was completely ruined - there were no other hotels to stay at in the area. I will never stay (or attempt to) at a Motel 6 again. It was unacceptable, inconsiderate, and like I said, ruined our weekend. Do yourself a favour - book elsewhere!!!

Booked a room kinda last minute to stay the night on my way home, the staff was super friendly and helpful, and the location is great. I was able to get everything I needed for the night within a 5 min walk. They even set me up with a ride to the airport in the morning. Rooms are nice. They're clean and the beds are comfy. Would definitely stay again if I find myself out this way.

An hour after we had checked in, someone on the first floor was stabbed and sent to hospital in life threatening condition. Suspect fled. I had called the front desk as I didn't know why there were police everywhere, the gentleman who picked up said "someone just tried to kill someone so we had to call police". Police told us to stay in room w doors locked. My children were absolutely traumatized. Swat had come through hotel checked rooms in tactical gear. I asked front desk desk if management was offering some sort of discount to the guests that had to experience this situation, reply was "not offering anything at the moment." There was also an older lady sitting in a wheelchair in the lobby as her room was down the hallway where the stabbing occurred. She asked me if I could recommend another hotel, but unfortunately couldn't as I am not from the area. She said she had to sleep in lobby or until the police were done with their investigation. I can't believe Motel 6 didn't even offer her another room to stay in while this is going on. They advertise as a family friendly motel, not even the least bit. Halls stink of cigarette and weed smoke. Room was VERY basic, fridge was dirty, vents are disgusting, blinds full of dust. No coffee in room and only offer coffee until 10am. I am absolutely appaled with this Motel 6. There was another stabbing at this location a year or 2 ago, which I was unaware of. Definitely avoid at all costs, and never bring your children here. I will say the lady who checked us in was very pleasant.

Showed up to our room at 26 degrees with absolutely no way to change it. Upon checking out I heard many people complaining about this. Room was disgusting, sticky, dirty floors, paper thin walls, cigarette smell so bad our heads were hurting. Not thrilled with this location. Never coming back. Wish I read these reviews before booking.

We arrived to the front desk listening to someone upset about an extra charge. We didn't understand until we got to the counter and found out they were taking an EXTRA 200.00 deposit that our visa will reimburse us which because we are entering the weekend will not be til Monday. The guys at the desk were very good but I felt so bad for them The management should make sure patrons know about this BEFORE they book. Then on a petty note... I was looking forward to a shower and wash my hair only to find out no conditioner and wimpy shampoo.( I know... I forgot my shampoo/conditioner)

Definitely worth the price! During my stay, I didn't encounter any issues with the smell of weed in the hallways, which can vary depending on the time and other travelers. I visited in April when the weather was still chilly, and I had concerns about the comfort of the room at night. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the room perfectly warm and the bed extremely comfortable. The only point I would like to highlight is that there was no shower curtain in the bathtub. As a result, taking a shower created a bit of a mess, essentially turning the entire washroom area into a small lake. I did bring this up with the hotel clerk, as it was inconvenient for subsequent use of the facilities while I was still in the room and not ready to check out.

Made the mistake of booking a room at the trap 6 here. 1st floor, room stunk like cleaner and filth. Move to second floor, smoke haze in the room and halls. Garbage bags in the Halls. Rent is so unaffordable people living in this. Government failing there people. Get a room across the street or out of town if you’re stopping by.

Just spent the weekend there. Bed was hard as a rock, I hope it was just a new mattress. Also enjoyed seeing 3 police cars outside while I was checking out. Very much a no frills hotel, microwave and coffee pot in lobby area. Very close to highway and restaurants. I will say the water was nice and hot. My family and I use to stay there a lot. The hotel has sadly gone downhill

Obviously a budget motel, came when during a major power outage/storm. The ladies at the desk were very sweet and apologetic since it took a long while to get a room. Came up from ottawa with my boyfriend and just wanted a cheap night stay. Right next to the highway, gas station, and food spots. The rooms are a bit dinky, but you get what you pay for, so I can't complain! It felt clean, and I found the pillows to be especially fluffy. The back parking lot is a little spooky at night, but its possible it's because the storm knocked out the lights (if there were any?). Would recommend to those on a budget.

My stay lasted an hour. I don't know what these things are but they were EVERYWHERE! I thought it was the room so I switched rooms to another floor just to find the room even worse. The manager wouldn't give me a refund and kept repeating "how do we know you didn't bring them in". My wife got a card from the counter and the lady's name was Julia berg. Short hair and angry.. super aggressive woman. No refund. Be careful.

I knew what I was getting with the price I paid I just didn’t expect room to smell like smoke.( after all it was a non-smoking room) I believe this hotel also takes in transient folks. People were making noise up to 4 am Yelling and screaming ,laughing as well as running in the halls. If staff did anything it did not help. Spend the extra $60 per night and find something better.

Booked a wheelchair accessible room only to be called last minute to report the room was unavailable due to maintenance. Didn't call back for availability at other hotels. Terrible service.

Walls are paper thin. You can hear the people next to you partying all night, coughing and cackling. The room had dead bugs all over, stuck to light fixtures, the curtain, the windows. Looks like someone swat a fly and left its corpse in the broken light fixture to rot. There were hairs all over the sink and in the corner of the bathroom, looks as though someone shaved and they gave it a quick swipe with a cloth and called it a day. There were no blankets, just two sheets. We just needed a place to stay in between our travels, cheap, and I guess you get what you pay for. For over 100, I'd assume the quality would be a bit better. Oh, and avoid the elevator. It jumps, it shakes, it chugs and the buttons don't work. It's one heck of a ride.

  • 2/5 William G. 9 months ago on Google
Floors were very dirty, the cigarette burns on the bed cover and the bathtub added to the ambiance. No plug for the bathroom sink. For what is charged might as well pay some more elsewhere. Plus side no bed bugs.

Room window had definitely not been cleaned at all and the shower area was somewhat dirty. Other than that, everything was in order with the room. Also had problems with the key card needing to be replaced daily. The manager was friendly and helpful.

I booked this hotel for my sister and her kids through booking.com on getting there today the lady at the front desk was so rude right from the moment we got there she had some kind of attitude. very unprofessional like she’s already having a bad day. Instead of her to explain to us that they can’t accept the id that my sister has with her which was issued to her by the government of Canada she yelled at us like we were there to get the room for free. I called booking.com customer service right away to make a report I was placed on hold to call them and the person I spoke with at booking.com came back and and apologized that he could sense the rudeness in the ladies voice. You don’t have to take your frustrations out on customers. I had to leave to go look for another hotel for them very disappointing. I won’t recommend this hotel for anyone to go

Motel 6 is a budget hotel and so we didn't start with high expectations. The room was reasonably nice and clean and had the typical amenities (2 bath towels, 1 face cloth, 1 hand towel, soap, shampoo, hair drier, facial tissues). The room had a small bar fridge that, for some reason, was sitting up on the desk instead of on the floor (possibly because the electrical outlets were all up higher and they would have had to put a hole through the desk to get the cord to the outlet). Staff were quite pleasant. The front desk had a sign up indicating that a $200 damage deposit would be charged and refunded after check-out once the room condition had been verified. We were told that it was a new policy due to room damage by previous hotel guests. I can't say that we had a restful sleep. The mattress sagged, the fridge was a bit noisy, and the room temperature was much too hot. The temperature was 26°C (79°F). We turned the thermostat down to 18°C (64°F) overnight but the temperature didn't change at all. Opening the window wasn't a realistic option because the hotel is very close to the freeway (Hwy 401) and the traffic noise was pretty loud even with the window closed. Another thing to note is that the bathroom sink and shower were low flow (very low flow). There was a police car parked in the hotel lot in the afternoon when we arrived and another police car there the next morning. , I believe police officers were on our floor talking to someone in the hall when we went to bed. Our deposit was refunded within 2 days but I'm left wondering whether this is the type of hotel we even want to stay in if the clientele it attracts results in enough damage that it feels it needs such a policy.

We came late in the evening and the hotel was booked solid. We had been driving for hours and she found us a room that was shut down for repair. The sink had a small chip nothing wrong with the room at all. Clean comfortable and extremely friendly staff. The lady who helped us was named Neha and she went above and beyond!!! Motel 6 Whitby great hotel awesome price!

Rooms and overall appearance and cleanliness need improvement. Very low clientele, a lot of locals living there, not a safe place. They have to have a security guard there on weekends and buzz in people after 9 pm. Would not recommend for a family or business trip.

Check in was great. The guy on the desk was wonderful. But the room was dirty, the beds look like hospital beds… Getting my deposit back was a brutal process. Had to call them 3 times. Sketchy looking characters all around the place. Was def my first and last visit there.

There was only one person trying to book in at least half a dozen reservations. He did his best, but was clearly understaffed. The entire foyer was full of families with children blocking the doorway. The hallway was extremely dirty and the room was not much better. No full-size towels, and the small ones that were there were old, dirty and very uncomfortable. Other places in the same area are similarly priced with much better amenities and cleanliness.

About the only thing this place has going for it is the proximity to Go Train station to get downtown. The building is dirty and smells of marijuana in most common areas. The rooms at first glance are clean but they really need to have a deep clean. Our biggest issue was that after coming back to our room at 1:30 in the morning (entered through back door that was not locked) we discovered that our room door did not lock properly. The front desk person dismissed our concerns and initially said there were no rooms to move us to. Told us no one else would have a key card. Eventually after he moved us complaining that the only room he had was for someone else who hadn’t arrived yet. Have to say the front desk clerk who checked us in was great and the one who was on when we left was also great. Will never go back - there are other hotels right across the street to use next time.
