Came here for the butter making workshop and had a ton of fun. Didn’t realize it was so easy to make! Beautiful grounds that are well maintained.

We were really looking forward to this experience as a family. Unfortunately the whole thing just fell short. It has such potential to be amazing. The grounds are beautiful and the history can be felt. However, it was a very short tour. The walk through the village with your own audio tape is not the best guide. Not every building can be accessed (the church was one of these). Most buildings even had the curtains closed so you couldn’t take a peek. My 10 & 11 y/o girls were disappointed that they couldn’t see much. Lunch was what as explained. Only the bread was terribly cut, end pieces and hardly much topping. The paper cups were for about 2 oz of liquid (shot glass size) and when I asked for a napkin for my child to wipe the food from her hands, the lady when she finally made herself present pumped the paper from a dispenser like you find in a public bathroom. After lunch was tea. That was about the best part of the experience. Little history on Tea and making our own butter. Then we were done. On our way out I inquired about the gift shop that I was informed when booking tickets would be open. It was not. The lady at the desk had some loot bags. THIS is the gift shop right now, she informed me. We are big fans of Anne of Green Gables. I was so excited to take my girls. This is a very overpriced experience for some sandwiches, tea and walk around a couple old homes. Children should not be charged the same as an adult to start. And the whole thing is very misleading. I could have taken my children to the Toronto zoo for the entire day for cheaper and they would have gotten so much more. This was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. Unfortunately I would say don't waste your money. The effort in presentation is just not there.

Fairy Tour offered at the Pickering Museum Village was amazing so much detail to each fairy house displayed. The volunteers are so helpful and very informative. The tours are guided with an audio recording you can play at your own pace as there is so much to take in ... they even incorporated a Scavenger Hunt finding 12 stamps and fill up your passport card wins you a prize at the end! The Pickering Museum Village offers many different events .. worth checking out!

Worst haunted tour experience ever. Both my girlfriend and I paid $25 each for the Ghost tour. The tour guide barely knew any names of anyone who lived in the houses. Most of the stories were about people who worked there. The most exciting part of the tour was when one of the other guests jumped. We also got a reply from the museum by email that it was because it was the first night of the tours. If it was first night than it shouldn't have costed so much. Maybe like a month after the price could have gone up to $25 a person but not at the start. Definitely will not recommend to anyone and will advise to stay away from the tours.

I wanted to like this place. The grounds are VERY beautiful. Maybe we came on an "off" day. It was our first time, and we brought our friends and their kids. We bought our tickets, said we were doing "self guided" but weren't given a book/guide or mp3 or anything that other reviewers mentioned (just a paper map). Like others have said, many buildings were closed. There was little to see or read or learn (the way we were set up), so we mostly wandered around. We did go into the old church/hall because the door was unlocked, and found an art activity inside. The kiddos got into it, and then a staff person came in and told us that activity was only for people on the Anne/Maud tour, we weren't supposed to touch. But there was no signage, no indication whatsoever that the activity was off limits. The person who sold our tickets did not say anything like "Sometimes you will see activities but they're for people paying extra so just leave them alone". We later saw other activities that must also have been for just that tour (again, no indication to let us know not to touch... but we knew better by that point). So basically we wandered around aimlessly, learned almost zero, got called out for touching an activity that was not labelled in any way, and then left. I wanted to like this place and support it, but I'll be honest, it was a pretty big letdown. Until they get better organized (maybe they're having trouble finding seasonal staff, maybe budget issues, who knows), I won't likely come back or recommend it... Hoping things improve over time.

A place to remember the old ways of living (pioneers' time), with a display of diferent houses and buildings from diferent periods of time. Unfortunately, some of the buildings were closed due renovations and the way through the bridge was closed. Also we saw a warning due seeing a bear 🐻, recently in nearby area.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, that really give you a glimpse of how the land was settled and the lives that pioneers led. I have been to other pioneer villages that were larger but this was the most informative. We tried ice cream made as the pioneer would have and made rope and wood nails. Definitely something interesting to do with your family.

A Spirit Walk is a must see if you haven't already done so. I don't have any pictures as you are not allowed to take any. I loved the walking thru the village at night with a lantern and seeing a live reenactment of the history in our town. It really brought you back in time. From the costumes to the sets they put on an incredible show.

We took our grandchildren to visit the Museum for their Plushie Stuffing and tour. You've got to go here! The volunteers at the Museum we're the friendliest people you're going to meet! They were extremely welcoming and helpful at every step of the way. Both grandchildren walked away with their Polar Bear stuffies, absolutely thrilled that they got to colour their little t-shirts. The tour of the Museum was an enchanting trip into yesteryear, with something for children of all ages. Little children were presented with a book outline the story of the village containing all the stuffies they had to find over the 10 buildings. Both were.delighted that they got to decorate their own gingerbread man, who unfortunately didn't make it out of the house with us. πŸ˜‰ A special surprise awaits those who visit all the houses. A great way to spend an afternoon.

It is a great gem of a place to spend an afternoon there. The staff and volunteers do a great job and if you have kids in your group there are a lot of fun things to keep them engaged while learning about how early settlers lived and their lifestyle. They have a busy calendar with tons of different activities. When we visited they had a solve the mystery activity for kids with a prize if they got it right. On the 17th of June we were there with kids and were asked to go indoors because of lightening. We were in for a while and were particularly impressed with a staff member Eamon (he is dressed as one of the characters). Eamon did his best keeping the kids engaged while we were indoors waiting for the all clear. Eamon brought out toys for the kids to play with. He came up with riddles for the kids to solve. He kept the kids engaged and we are grateful as the kids had started getting restless. Great job Eamon! The entire staff at the Museum is great, friendly and welcoming. Always a good time there.

Attended great little spot for photos with dogs and Santa. They hosted an event for photos done by staff. Originally everything was booked but was able to put myself on the waiting list. Staff are very friendly helpful. The photos were done on a DSLR, and staff were patient to get the dogs in photo ready positions. Prices are fair and was a great experience outdoors with Santa and the dogs. Durham humane society was also out, so it was for a good cause

Today my family and I participated in the carriage painter workshop at the Pickering Museum. Our workshop facilitator's name was Daniel and I could not have been happier with how wonderfully it went. He was full of information, incredible to talk too. When we left our art to dry and to explore the village we came back to a personal thank you note. He noticed how much my boys loved Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario so he drew the figures on the thank you note. We loved out experience today and it was because of Daniel. I hope that I catch him facilitating the Anne of Green Gables Tour. HOPEFULLY, fingers crossed.

Had a great time making ice cream together with my family. The staff was kind and friendly. It was great visit. The village is like the setting in the 1800's. As for the ice cream making, Reese was the one who showed us how to do it and we had fun with the kids. There's also baking and butter making. It's worth the visit with family.

No business hours on google page, noone picking up the phone, hours not easy to find on the website. How one is supposes to know the hours? After trying for some time, we figured the open air museum has no hours, so drove 1.5 hours, just to find no entry after 3:30. And no dog allowed? Why should an open air place not allow dogs on leash, if pet owners pick up after?

Did the Anne Experience yesterday. It was lovely. Would have preferred an interactive guide rather than an MP3 Player (but mabe that was a Covid-19 precaution). The 'Tea Lady' was awesome, very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly encourage others to do this trip, it was an excellent way to see the Village.

Awesome place to learn about the history of Pickering. Very informative tour guide, she shared a lot of fun facts about the tools used and the people who used to live in that time. A lot of fun programs going on all year round. Definitely gonna come back to check them out!!

Great place to visit. Great jam in the gift store. Their Carrot Cake jam is the best jam I have ever had and I love my jam. Great place to take the family and lots of special events. The activities and the people working there are top-notch. Definitely a great place to visit!

The blue siding house was the spot where filming was done for Anne of Green Gables in the mid 1980's. The scene was where Anne (Megan Follows) was dared to walk on a ridge pole on the north wing of the house, only to fall off.
