Nice restaurant in an unassuming location. I was surprised at the vibe and how many people were here during a week day lunch. Music was great. Location and decor was nice gave a very latino vibe. Staff was friendly and service was quick. I was with a group of 4. Menu is a bit small to choose from but we wanted tacos so that’s what we came for. In house ground taco shells are super soft. We tried chicken, beef and fish tacos. Presentation was impeccable. Please note I am not giving a bad review but these are my thoughts. Taco shell - super soft and thin, but with toppings it broke apart really easily, typically with this shells like this you would serve 2 just to hold it better. The meat and chicken tacos and shredded- flavourful for sure but I think for me was a bit dry. The chicken taco had refried beans which I normally love but would have used more salt in the beans and less in the meat. The hot sauce is a must to amp up the flavour. Probably the fish taco was the most disappointing although it looked the best. Crunchy batter but maybe they forgot the salt it was beyond bland. Which was too bad. Dessert we ordered the churros and we’re not disappointed this was the best I have tasted in a long time. So even though the tacos were ok the dessert made the meal. Overall I liked the restaurant. It’s a tiny bit pricy for lunch but maybe if I was going for a dinner the price is worth it. I realize everyone’s palmettes are different for me this was good I am sure others will say it’s amazing. I don’t mind going again and if I wanted to splurge the octopus sounds amazing. Next time.

I was really looking forward to dining at Chuuk, but was very disappointed in my experience. The guac was extremely salty, and needed plenty of water to be washed down. I also ordered the fish tacos which after a single bite I noticed they were cold and also found a hair in the food. I was hesitant to say anything, but ultimately flagged down our waitress to let her know discreetly. The restaurant replaced my meal but I was already pretty turned off at that point. I didn’t enjoy the replacement, but at least the second pair of tacos were warm. I expected a manager to come out and apologize at the very least but that did not happen. Only good thing about this restaurant is the ambiance- truly a beautiful restaurant. Just wish the food matched the decor. Will not be returning.

Definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Pickering. It’s absolutely beautiful, food is amazing and service is quick and friendly. Very often when we order octopus from a restaurant it is often over cooked (to our preference) and too charred. But here, it was absolute perfection. So tender! The queso fundido appetizer is also worth raving about. Great selection of cocktails and the local coffee is superb. Would highly recommend this place without hesitation. I need to come back for brunch!

By far, the best Mexican dining experience I've ever had in Canada! The food is delicious and the service is beyond perfection. The servers introduce themselves and take the time to get to know you. Amanda and Shannon are delightful! The food, although expensive, is amazing. The chips and guacamole are a must order. The tacos are good as well but too pricy for me. Their habanero hot sauce is fresh made and tasty. This restaurant in Frenchman's Bay is a must visit if you're in the area!

Food is not particularly good. Birria was good, and the corn and chips taste better the more you eat it weirdly enough. Place is noisy and busy. Many people and loud music playing. I went on a Saturday evening so maybe I did it to myself? Lol. Not my vibe though at the end of the day. You have a hard time hearing the people you came with and/or the server. Wouldn’t go again personally. Mediocre food and high prices but the person I went with would go again and liked it so to each his own. Lastly the service was top notch 10/10. I felt very taken care of and the food came in a timely manner.

Stumbled upon this place on a little road trip… happy we did! Designed with an airy open minimalist vibe and our server chelsea was incredibly friendly. All the Vegan options hit the spot ~ Escabeche (perfectly pickled vegetables), cassava fries (crispy and seasoned), Rajas tacos were filling…and the churros for the finale were like nothing we’ve had before…I inquired how they make the vegan dulce de leche and it is done with care (only served if it’s the perfect consistency)!

Chuuk is an absolute gem that captures the essence of a cute Mexican haven. This tiny yet chic restaurant boasts a lovely and well-stocked bar, creating an inviting atmosphere. The outdoor patio, promising a vibrant summer vibe, adds to its allure. We started with a trio of appetizers: cassava fries, chips & guac, and street corn. All incredible - setting the stage for the main event. The Baja fish and birria tacos were nothing short of exceptional, but prepare to get a bit messy! The sweet conclusion to our meal was a cupcake that rounded off the dining experience on a delightful note from the adjoining bakery on the northwest corner of the building. Accompanying our culinary adventure were expertly crafted cocktails—Pick Jaguar and La Mora. These perfectly complemented the vibrant and flavorful dishes. They also come in a pitcher! An additional noteworthy feature of Chuuk is their takeaway cocktails (just add ice), allowing you to enjoy their expertly crafted beverages from home!

Do you love Mexican food? If so, this is the perfect local spot for authentic dishes including tacos, street corn etc. While the menu is limited, the options are quality. Decor is minimalist but cute. Server had a bit of an attitude but otherwise pleasant experience.

Had the fries, corn, fish tacos and sweet potato tacos (those aren't the official names but it's what I call them). The food was really good. The restaurant has a downtown Toronto like ambiance. Service was good but it did take a quite a bit of time for us to get our mains after the appetizers but it wasn't a big deal as we enjoyed our time there.

The food was really good and the staff were amazing! I just felt that the menu options were too limited and I was disappointed that we were not able to mix and match tacos. I’m sure they get that request a lot, so why not aim to satisfy the customer? The guacamole and chips were awesome and the tacos were also really good. Parking lot patio gets an A for effort , but it’s still a parking lot, so it’s not the best ambiance. But overall, I was happy and would probably go back.

Finally got a chance to visit Chúuk. It’s been on my list for ages but sadly Covid etc 😥. However, happy to say that it was completely worth the wait. We ordered guacamole and chips, chicken tacos and beef tacos. All of the food was super tasty and made with great ingredients. The chicken tacos in particular were spectacular. My only wish is that servings were a little bigger! Service was friendly and efficient and overall my wife and I were extremely impressed. We’ll definitely visit again when we’re in the area.

Attended this place based on a friend's recommendation. The atmosphere was nice, and is a good date spot. The Mrs and I were seated at a table near the bar, and still had a good time. The music was not overpowering where you can't hear the other speak. The servers were on-top of things and have good recommendations. We started off with chips and dip which was good, but the dip was a little too watery. With some Baja fish tacos and Birria tacos. The Baja was light and refreshing, buy the Birria was a bit lacking. Flavour wasn't really there but hot sauce helped. The Birria was very saucy and messy which made it more disappointing. We ordered the Achiote Chicken entree to share, and that was delicious. The sweet plantain was nicely cooked, along with the rice. Two decent sized chicken pieces that were nicely grilled with good amount of charring. To go with our food, we grabbed rounds of drinks. We started off with the Thought Bubble and Tropical Smoke. I was a fan of the thought bubble, but the Mrs liked the tropical smoke better. We finished off with some craft beer all local brewed; Maziya Mexican lager and a blonde ale. Both were refreshing and a nice finish to the night. The finishing price was standard and was around $150. Overall we would return if we have a craving for some Mexican food.

From the restaurant's ambiance, delicious margaritas to it's authentic tasting dishes Chuuk manages to hit a home run after home run on all fronts. A must visit spot in Pickering for those of you that are birria taco and tequila connoisseurs. They have a bartender (mixologist) that brings you tequila mixed in new and authentic ways that makes it hard to stop after just one drink! I prefer my tequila shaken and in a traditional margarita mix or some ranch water. The birria tacos were tasty but could have been taken to the next level with some of that red broth to dip them in. The taco tortillas were a bit soft and made it hard to hold.on to all the goodness in them and can do with another tortilla to firm things up. Even with the recommendations the food is authentic, tasty and portioned well. I have visited the location only twice and will need a few more visits to enjoy some of the other Mexican dishes. They have a large covered outdoor patio area that makes for a great outdoor summer party or meetup. The location is always busy so make sure to book early if you are visiting during the holiday season or closer to the weekends. Your next mexican hotspot to visit for sure!

Everything tasted great, nicely seasoned. My top were the birria tacos, so flavorful and 2 were just the right amount for lunch. I also like the guacamole with the fresh homemade chips. But everything was great! Definitely recommend. We sat on the patio, there were bees around. But it wasn't too bad, you could just sit inside. Beautiful place.

Was unable to book a reservation online for indoor or patio but then was able to when called. Patio looks nice and they have additional room set up as a tent in the parking lot, no view though. Even tho they have extended their patio to the parking lot there is still plenty of parking along the other stores that are connected to the restaurant. Enjoyed the drink selection. I prefer Mexican places that offer the tacos priced individually since you can mix and match and order more. These fish tacos were good and I enjoyed them and didn’t leave hungry but certainly wasn’t full.

I took my husband here for his birthday and we loved their service and tacos! My favorite was the fish tacos and the giant octopus leg dish. Taste and texture both were amazing!

My husband and I had a great first experience. The drinks, food, service and vibe was all excellent. We tried two different margaritas, guacamole/chips and the fish, chicken and beef tacos, EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. We can’t wait to go back and are so excited we found a really good Mexican spot in Durham.

This place is amazing. Walking inside reminds you a bit of Mexico those restaurants around the 5th avenue area. The food is great! The drinks oh wow the drinks are amazing they don’t water down anything. The crowd is a mix of everyone great atmosphere even so a families with their kids. Getting a table can be tricky since the place is so damm good. I would come back here again. They need to expand to Whitby

Couldn’t believe we found this place! Feels like it’s a Toronto restaurant, but in the middle of Durham. We got a few apps and shared tacos- stars of the show were 100% the apps - shrimp, guac, and fried cheese. Tacos were great, my favourite were the birria (beef), however the rest were also very flavourful (we got 1 of each). Everything’s made in house, and you could definitely tell. The margaritas were amazing and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t love tequila! Also, do NOT skip on the churros.

Rarely tasted such freshness and packed with flavors that are well balanced. Setting is very modern, clean and nice touches perfect for date night 😎. Service is great and reasonable time, and menu is clean and lacks photos, didn't even understand what half the items mean. Absolutely recommend for great fine dinning.

Customer service was really nice but this place is expensive! $13 for a drink!!! We order Guac and chips for app. Fish and beef tacos and grilled chicken and grilled shrimp. Food was tasty but for the price this is a place for only those special occasions. Portions wernt that generous also. Be prepared.

Great atmosphere, staff was excellent from start to finish. Food and drinks came out in a super timely manner.tacos were definitely excellent. But the Chuuk margarita was the best I've had in Canada.. we ordered a pitcher and it was gone in short order it was so good. I also like that the menu shows all the local places they use and support.. and the fact that they have a ton of tequila variety is great, but the best part about that is you can buy a bottle at cost and take it home with you. Also decent vegan options.

Chuuk is hands down my favourite restaurant in Durham. I’ve gone here on date nights with my now-husband, and taken several friends and clients here for lunch and dinner over the last couple of years and it has been a hit every single time. The quality of food, taste, fun drinks and service is consistently great. All of their tacos are especially delicious and such highlights - especially the Birria, Baja and Pollo along with this amazing house made green sauce they serve. My favourite drink is their “La Mora”. The grilled Octopus, street corn and queso fundido, empanadas, tres leches cupcakes and churros are also incredibly tasty. I’ll have to take better photos of the food next time. Also, you get the fun, swanky, Toronto restaurant vibe here. Or perhaps more accurately put; the Tulum, Mexico vacation vibe. The owner, chef (who by the way is a Chef from Mexico) and team here have done a phenomenal job. It’s an upscale, fun, Mexican restaurant. The servers are always friendly and attentive. Request: Please add ceviche to your menu if possible! I totally recommend Chuuk for a great meal and experience.

Great vibes, delicious food! Miss their old vegetarian taco option but the fish and vegan tacos are really good! Appetizers are the star of the show. Our server Chelsea (If I remember her name correctly) was absolutely lovely!!!

  • 5/5 Shazia H. 2 years ago on Google
SO glad we got to try Chuuk today, after hearing rave reviews from friends! Their tacos were absolutely delicious - maybe the best we have ever had! The drinks and apps were great too (we tried a smokey margarita and a cucumber lime drink; and the guacamole and street corn). The staff were lovely too, very friendly and attentive; and the ambiance was 10/10. We cannot wait to come back again!!

  • 5/5 Emily Z. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely delicious. My first bite of the corn threw me off as I thought it was going to be warm, but a few more bites in and I was loving it! Our server Chelsea was amazing too! Can’t wait to go back.

Went to Chúuk for Lunch for the first time. We had a reservation but wasn’t needed for 1pm on a Sunday The service was great and the servers were very friendly. The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy I had the Beef Empanadas and my fiancée had Torta Tampico We got the cassava fries as an appetizer to start and to share with the table (we did not realize that the torta comes with cassava fries) Food is fresh, seasoned very well, portion sizes are amazing, came in starving, and left stuffed (like them empanadas, the meat to dough ratio is perfect) The acidity of the “cole slaw” adds a hint of freshness and helps cut through the fattyness of the beef. Did not try the Torta but my fiancée says it was well seasoned, tender, the bun was toasted nicely, and very filling Their lunch and dinner menus are different, can’t wait to come back again to try their dinner menu!

The service and hospitality at Chuuk is exceptional. We showed up without a reservation and were accommodated without hesitation. We asked to be seated outside and even though it was really busy, the manager and hostess made it happen. The food is amazing. The guacamole and street corn are perfect starters. The tortilla chips were made fresh and warm. Good portion and delicious. I had the vegan tacos which were amazing. The restaurant is beautiful and has a really great patio with a retractable roof. Will definitely be coming again!

Wow, this hit the spot. Decided to take a lunch break with the wife for something a bit different. Chuuk was a fantastic pick. Drinks were unique and delicious, food was fresh and flavorful. Guac was made in house and the chips were still warm, the cheese over the street corn was absolutely insane. We had the Baja fish and Birria tacos. Portions were great, super fresh and worth every penny. Will be back for dinner for sure. Well done Chuuk, we will be back for sure!

Love the atmosphere, drinks, patio, music. Service was top notch. The tacos are great but it would be awesome to have a platter for sharing or an option to try different flavors instead of 3 of the same kind. Also you have to eat them as soon as they arrive as the corn tortillas get soggy and rip. Overall great experience!

  • 5/5 Gabriel G. 11 months ago on Google
What a stylish place. The staff was friendly and the ambiance very cool. Nice variety of modern Mexican dishes. Tried the fish, beef and chicken tacos. Beef was our group’s favourite, but all were good. Guacamole and tortillas were good too. Great choice of drinks. Make it an afternoon: Go to the shops and park at the South end of Liverpool Rd, then Chuuk for dinner. Yum!

First time here for lunch. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Delicious tacos. And soup. Our waitress was amazing and very informative. She was always checking up on us and making sure we are good with everything. The place was clean and very spacious. May be the portion could be a little bigger. Especially with the shrimp appetizer.

  • 4/5 M M. 9 months ago on Google
This restaurant has been open for about 2 years if my memory is correct. The food and drinks are delicious with an excellent variety of tequila for their margaritas. I really like how the tacos come in options of 2 or 3. My party ordered 3 in order to share and exchange. The baja fish and chicken were the most popular of the table, but its not to say the beef isn't good...it is very good and tender but the fish was fried perfectly and the toppings on the chicken tacos made it really enjoyable. The tuna ceviche was out of this world! The portion was a bit small but definitely worth it for the flavour balance. We also ordered the corn and guacamole. I prefer my guacamole a bit chunkier but that's just personal preference, the flavour was spot on. And the warm chips served with the guac and the ceviche was an excellent touch. The seabream was impressive looking but I prefer my fish grilled versus fried but the way it is served, makes it easy for the diner to eat. My wood fire chicken was a bit dry in the white meat but the dark meat was good. We were celebrating a birthday and had a vanilla cupcake but I wouldn't recommend this. The cupcake itself was chilled so the cake was cold to chew and the cream on top tasted like whipped cream instead of a nice buttercream or frosting. Save your stomach space for the appetizers and tacos! Overall, I enjoyed the tacos and appetizers more than the mains. Service is great, staff are very friendly and know the menu well. The ambiance of this restaurant is beautiful, both indoor and the outdoor patio. We dined on a Monday and it was quite busy, thankfully we had reservations so I would recommend making reservations. The outdoor patio vibe is awesome, it has enclosed wooden walls along the perimeter helps block some wind and noise and creates a very cozy vibe.

Went here to try out a more upscale Mexican. The ambiance was pretty nice although there was an abundance of fruit flies everywhere. We loved the guacamole and tortillas. The street corn dish was actually pretty decent as well. We ordered the chicken and beef tacos which was just okay. The tacos fell apart and the beef tacos could have used some crunchy veggies. If the price was 30% less, I would consider it better value.

  • 5/5 Chris C. 2 years ago on Google
My wife and I went here to check out their new brunch yesterday. We were not disappointed! Amazing upscale brunch offerings. Food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend their breakfast cocktails, especially the "fizzy tea".

  • 3/5 Mariah 1 year ago on Google
Finally had the chance to eat here but I was quite disappointed. We just enjoyed the chips and the corn. The Birri tacos was good but it had too much sauce and became soggy right away. Same with the fish tacos and the fish was bland, probably wasn’t seasoned or wasn’t season enough. The place is nice and the staff were friendly but will not go back.

Cannot say enough about the staff, food, drinks and atmosphere at Chuuk. We recently had our small wedding in the Pineapple Room and it went off perfectly. Everyone absolutely loved the food and was raving about it for days. Amanda was one of our waitresses and helped plan our event and was absolutely wonderful to deal with. So accommodating and quick to respond to all our emails and inquiries.

  • 4/5 Anthony D. 2 years ago on Google
Went here on a Friday night they were really busy..the ambiance of the restaurant was really nice, they had music playing at a good level it was def a good vibe. Ordered the street corn and luckily from the server he let us know might be best to get chips and thankfully we did (the corn came kind of like a cold corn salad we were expecting corn on the cob Mexican style)..wouldn’t go back for the corn. We had birria and fish tacos…they didn’t hit the spot birria wasn’t folded over cheesy or anything typical of a birria tacos, fish taco lacked any seasoning or other veggies to bring it all together so didn’t taste as fresh as it probably should (pico de gallo or fresh onions cabbage etc would help not lettuce imo). The highlight was the drinks and you must get the tortilla chips and the wood grilled chicken that was one of the best chickens I’ve had def seemed small for half a chicken but well worth it. Gave 4 stars mainly for the vibe, the drinks, and that chicken.

Such great food and margaritas. Amanda was our server and she was truly outstanding. Best tacos I’ve ever had. I would give a million stars if I could
