Excellent all day breakfast place in Pickering. Clean, friendly staff, great service, generous portions and coffee refills. Certainly recommend this place for a good hearty breakfast.

Stumbled upon this spot during a snow storm, thank goodness they were open. One of the Owner's *I believe his name was Shaq* greeted me with a smile on his face. I ordered the fish & chips and a Heineken to pair. Will return

Been a long time customer here for almost 15 years. I usually come here with my partner and have a great experience as the previous staff members were long time employees who we had built a great relationship with over many years. A few weeks ago I came in to do takeout and noticed that the person serving me was new. I didn’t think much of it at the time however when I came in again to sit down a few weeks later I noticed that I did not recognize any of the staff members. Upon chatting with our sever we came to learn that new ownership had taken over and all new staff was hired. I was gutted to hear this as the previous staff had been amazing. Our experience that day was just okay. Food tasted alright but not as good as normal. However what we noticed the most was the change in atmosphere. The new staff did not have that family friendly vibe to them that the previous ones did. In all honestly the new staff seemed very grundy and like they belonged in a dive bar not a family breakfast restaurant. Despite this I decided to give them one more try and got takeout yesterday. Firstly, I tried to call them 4 times to place my order and each time the phone did not even ring. I went in waited about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me even though the place was completely empty with only 2 tables having guests. This was very surprising as it was around 12:30 on a Saturday. Finally someone came over to which nicely let the staff know the phones weren’t working and that I would like to place an order for takeout. Instead of taking my order first the lady serving me spend 5 minutes walking around the restaurant trying to find all the phone and why there weren’t working before coming to take my order. Once my order was placed I waited. Upon waiting I noticed they added in a shelf above the cash and filled it with alcohol bottles. This was not there before and really promotes that dive atmosphere that the new staff add too. Finally I got my food and took it home. When getting takeout i always order the same thing and never have an issue. This time my food felt undercooked. The homefries were hard and my well done sandwich was definitely not well done. Overall I'm very dissapointed in the changes that have been made by new ownership as many other long term customers are. This is no longer a family friendly space. The quality of food and customer service has plummeted and I will not be returning again. Sad to see a Pickering staple go down the drain.

My recent visit to Kathryn surprised me with lots of new things. I got to know the management has changed has changed and went there after so long as i was regular customer before . The owner was very friendly, the place was so authentic and gave us old school vibe. The new servers were very polite and they treated us well. I got to know from that cute server that she is hired new but she treated us better than anyone could. Food on the other side was too amazing. We ordered Blt sandwich as well as Sausage and eggs . The home fries were too fresh and that server told me that they make it in the restaurant themselve and everything was fresh. Wasn’t expecting such warm welcome and such good vibes from Kathryn but they surprised me and I am planning to go there often from now.

Great quiet breakfsst and Fish n Chips spot!

The food and service was great. I was really happy to dine in. The servers were all very friendly and took care of us by giving us the things we need instantly. The service was very fast.

Kathryn's used to be the absolute best. Since new management took over, it is just absolutely awful. I've been going to Kathryn's with my Mom for years and both of us were so disappointed in all the new changes since the new management came in. The incredible original staff all gone and replaced with untrained and unorganized newbies. Took them forever to take our orders, and when we were done, took them even longer to bring the cheque. Kathryn's used to have one of the best burger and fries with gravy combos around. Now the burger and gravy taste like they came right out of a package from a cheap grocery store. Burger definitely isn't handmade anymore. Likely bought frozen. Corners were definitely cut to save money. Safe to say we won't going back. An absolute shame.

Kathryn’s got new owners and it is evident. My friends and I used to go all the time, for the past 15 years. We went today and the changes in atmosphere and food were unfortunately very obvious. To start, their home fries recipe was completely different. No longer crispy and delicious, now bland and not great. These were specifically what we loved about Kathryn’s all these years. They have also changed the sausages and other food items (I assume to cut costs). I used to clean my plate, and this time I didn’t even eat half because it just wasn’t the same. You can tell corners have been cut, as previous reviews have stated. I miss the old staff as well. The family vibe is completely gone. I doubt we will be returning, which is a shame considering this restaurant meant so much to us for so many years. Bring back the old recipes and atmosphere!

Our go to place for our twice monthly breakfast gatherings. Excellent service each & every time. Food is delicious, prepared fresh and hot dishes are presented hot off the grill. Prices are reasonable; servings are grand. Hat’s off to Stella & the cook during these difficult times. We miss our friends Sharon & Shawn, the wait staff who served us well.

As usual foid was great, a short wait to get in due to Covid restrictions. Wait staff is great.

Went in for Sunday Breakfast and was told to sit wherever I wanted. Waited for 25 mins and no one came to take my order or clean the table. So I left

Went for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had the 3 eggs breakfast (3 eggs scrambled, white toast, and home fries; $6.50), and Kathryn's combo (2 eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, home fries, and 2 pancakes; $11.50) Service - 5 stars! The two servers there were very friendly and attentive. They were busy, but we were seated within 5 minutes and our coffees were always topped up. Food - 3.5 stars. Nothing to rave about; the home fries were very well done - extremely crispy (more than my liking) and not seasoned, the eggs were good, and the pancakes again, average. Value - 4.5 stars! While I'd say the portions were a little smaller than what we get at other places, the prices were definitely lower. That's not to say that we weren't full. It's just that at other places we have to take a doggy bag whereas here we wiped our plates clean and were not left hungry. All in all, we enjoyed it and will be coming back for more.

I was craving fresh cut fries and gravy. Stumbled onto Kathryn's.. Not disappointed, fries were fresh cut, not greasy and the gravy was very delicious..not salty. Restuarant was very clean and the lady at the front was very courteous. Will be back to try the Halibut. Also another order of fries and gravy. 😊

Classic breakfast spot! You won't get the best food in the world but the service is the best in the world. If you live in Pickering, this is a great local spot.

Really nice restaurant. The food was prepared fresh with huge portions! The place was very clean. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

This is my favourite breakfast spot in Durham. I live in Toronto and I drive out there regularly to grab breakfast. I love the scrambled eggs, bacon and homefries. The coffee is my fave. Lol. If you love to do regular weekend breakfast with your fam, this is cute little spot. *note* Sat/Sun mornings are always busy so be prepared to wait for a bit. But it’s worth the wait.

Excellent wait staff (Sharon). Ordered breakfast food - Katheryn's breakfast, pancakes and toast. Food was good and arrived quickly. Coffee was average but plenty of it. Would recommend it.

Sharon and Jim where our alternating servers, the very best in customer service, Friendly Smiles, prompt and efficient immediate service. happy-go-lucky personalities with a great sense of humour and intelligent conversation. Not to mention the value was better than anywhere else we could ever have even hoped or even imagined, thank you once again Kathryn's and those two people especially!!

Came in for a Monday brunch, waited 15 minutes for someone to greet us at the door. Lady asked to see our vaccine proof, as we were pulling it out she said she'd be right back but didn't return after we waited another 5 mins so we left. Wasn't busy either.

Consistently great breakfasts. Pancakes eggs and potato's. Only critique is the steak in the steak and eggs was tough. Better cut of steak would be better very difficult to chew.

We have been happy customers of Kathryn’s for years. But on our most recent visit we became aware that the new owner had fired the three long term staff Sharon, Shawn and Mary. These ladies had served us for 20+ years and were the main reason for its causal family friendly feel. They were fast and efficient and never let us down no matter how busy the place was. In addition, the new staff was not trained well and not very friendly. We are very disappointed and won’t be going back. Any breakfast place can make bacon and eggs it’s the personalities that count. The new owner inherited a great team and then fired them. What a missed opportunity.

Kathryn was the first restaurant I visited since I moved here 3 years ago. Since then, we keep coming back esp their food is amazing and staff are amazing friendly, too. Now , we got to know about new things so we visited there again. I appreciate their service, hard work, and kindness. We are always happy with their food. Great value and absolutely tasty. The servers were too nice and the place was too good to hangout. Will visit there again .Thank you!

Amazing restaurant i had ever saw. Just wonderful. Recommended food chicken wings and fish & chips . These are the best food i had ever ate . The new owner is wonderful and he is so polite & humble. All the staffs are very friendly.

We've come by 3 times now and LouLou had been our server. I was so very impressed by her efficiency and effort to help and keep all the customers happy. It was so busy when we came for breakfast each time and the poor girl looked like she was the only one who was working. She checked on our food and made sure we had coffee refilled. The food was great and we will be back again. You need more conscientious servers like Lou.
