This psychiatrist Dept is a joke. Half the time they don't answer the phone nor do they return phone calls! When I finally received a call back 3 weeks later to schedule an appt for 3 more weeks later, it was not what I had expected....Upon seeing the psychiatrist whom seemed as if swiping my debit card first! was more important than starting my session. So we begin, the ending note He told me to read a book! ( Which I already had read)And I should be alright. He also told me to schedule some psychotherapy sessions and that should help......Well unbeknownst to him I guess he doesn't realize the reception area doesn't answer the phone!!!! One day while having another appt, I walked in to make an appt and No one was there!!! I walked around looking for someone and absolutely no one was in site...so I knocked on a door and opened it and no one was in there....so before I got myself caught snooping around I went to get my doctor whom was right next door and wanted him to see what Jefferson psychiatry department is all about....His exact words .what is everyone out to lunch??? This shouldn't be...we just walked in her, had we been thieves we could have walked out with everything..he made a phone call...while doing so, someone of the office team came out of a door laughing and surprise surprise to see the doctor and me standing there....So he made her make me an appt...and He said to me I will see you soon .let me talk to her.....well moving forward my appt was cancelled 2 days before and never rescheduled - why- because no one answers the phone.....! Jefferson really needs to take a look at this department. I have never seen anything like it..what do they do there but honestly collect a paycheckand go to lunch all day .Must be nice!

I have been calling there for two months to request an appointment and always. always get voice mail. I leave a clear message with my name, telephone number and my reason for calling. No one has ever called me back. There is only one other place that takes my insurance and I had an unacceptable experience there and will never go back. UPDATE: After two months, I finally got through to someone there who was rather snippy. She said that the billing department had to review my insurance before I could make an appointment. Unsurprisingly, I never heard from them. Fortunately, I am only somewhat depressed, not suicidal.

most traumatizing experience of my life. i could go on for paragraphs but i don’t want to relive it. basically, i was in admitted inpatient for psychosis and they did nothing but condescend me, confuse me, and make me feel unsafe. i had a scrape on my knee that got infected there, and every time i begged for a band aid or some Neosporin, all they did was talk to me like a toddler and ask how i got the scrape. also, i was there over the week between christmas and new years so all of the attending doctors were off, which meant i received the very bare minimum of care. no talk therapy, nothing. i begged to leave and they tricked me into signing myself in voluntarily so i wound up admitted for over a week with no autonomy or say in my care whatsoever. horrible place. this was 2017 going into 2018 so hopefully they have somewhat improved, but i doubt it. mentally ill patients are basically treated like prisoners, but if you need your appendix out, best believe you will receive the VIP treatment.

My housing sent me here on multiple occasions while I was in crisis. For context, my bipolar type 1 diagnosis is probably the downplaying of legitimate schizophrenia. Seeing as how it's hard to describe my experiences because I was deep in psychosis the times I got sent here, all I can say is this is one of the worst wards in Philadelphia. To be fair, I wasn't in a state to help them figure out what I needed because everything was extremely confusing for me but they were not good at making someone with psychosis feel safe. I am not sure if it's 100% their fault but I am traumatized by my quality of "care" here. I know it's hard to work with someone who is refusing meds but the rude, hostile comments from staff did not help. It's been years since I've been there but hopefully they are more equipped to empower people like me these days. I'm going to give it two stars because the lady who ran crafts was nice to me at least.

The doctors are very professional and courteous. The front desk staff was rude to me, just saying, need a receipt. She never even said thank you for my copay. Called to speak with supervisor and no one returned my call. Reception should be courteous to customers at all times

Don't go here!!! If I could rate this place with negative stars, I would. After attempting suicide and waiting 6 days on suicide watch at Jefferson Torresdale to get a bed at a psychiatric facility, I was sent to Jefferson Main. I was assigned to the senior Psychiatrist Dr. Certa. Dr. Certa with his team talked to me once, for five minutes, and told me, no medicine would help me and that I needed CBT therapy which they did not provide at the hospital. They gave me no treatment. I was in severe mental distress and they did not care or treat me. The Doctor knew I was previously diagnosed with bipolar and bpd, but decided that because I wasn't currently in a manic state, I was all the sudden not bipolar. Although they knew I tried to kill myself with Zoloft, and that they told me no medicine would help me, they tried to give me Zoloft. I complained to a Doctor who was on his team. The Doctor or student doctor that was on his team agreed and told me Zoloft wouldn't help me and that I didn't need to take it. They didn't give me any meds. They tried to keep me there with no treatment and I complained that this was patient abuse and I needed to go somewhere that would actually treat me, so I got discharged 2 days after being there. I need psych meds and because of this horrible place, I'm currently on nothing, barely getting by, waiting for my appointment to come with my psychiatrist that I've been with for three years and who diagnosed me with Bipolar. I've talked with many psychiatrists and therapists over the years and have never been told I didn't need meds and that they wouldn't help me...

Like many of the other reviews here, would rate less than 1 star if I could. I rarely ever feel motivated to write a negative review of somewhere but I really feel the need to warn people about the incompetancy and blatant antagonism of the psychiatrists at this place. I came in with a diagnosis I have invested years in getting after careful research and countless appointments with different mental health workers. I said when booking the appointment that I was specifically looking for medication management for adhd and was assured that was what would be focused on in the session. Once arriving, Julia Hannigan proceeded to imply my orginal diagnosis was illegitimate, hardly listened to my concerns at all, and proceeded to twist every bit of information I was trying to present. After TWO HOURS in the appointment, she and another somehow much ruder, senior psychiatrist zeroed in on a completely different, ill informined set of diagnoses based off a few moments of their own superficial interviewing. They made me feel like I had just come in and made everything up and wasn't even perceiving my own experiences correctly. The whole experience was humiliating, condescending and extremely antagonistic. Please, please do not go here if you have sensitive mental health issues and are in need of affirming care. Devastating to have waited months to even get this appointment.

Psychiatrist doesn't call back or send in refills as promised. Checked my jefferson chart and half were sent. I feel like I have to call and call every time I need to speak with the doctor and follow up, even if she promises to call back to follow up. They dropped me as a patient because I couldn't follow up every 4-6 weeks, as I travel a lot for work. More like they're not getting a copay and opening up a space for someone else. Awful experience.

I'm glad that I wasn't extremely disturbed when I requested to see someone here. It only took them 6 months to a year to try to set me up an appointment...only for them to have 1 person available, a month later.

This place is a joke. They will and have actively hung up on patients threatening to harm themselves. Everyone in that building should be fired.

Apparently they don't take Medicare patients who also have Medicaid, or so I was told. Pretty sad policy if you ask me but I'm not one to question it. They did say to visit their ER (at 20x the cost, of course) if things got really dicey. I'm sure their patient population is excited to hear that!

Wish I could give negative stars! My brother was bipolar and suffered with acute schizophrenia! He’s dead now! So terrified by his own delusions he thought ending his own life would be better than getting murdered by someone who never existed would be more merciful! I stressed to the doctor that he was extremely delusional and didn’t sleep at home due to some imaginary murder but they dismissed my concerns with “ we don’t like to diagnose anyone prematurely”? But he has crashed a car on the highway trying to run away from an imaginary murderer and even begged me to attend his own funeral. Stressed this to the doctor and was dismissed! He should’ve been court committed! My brother was failed by the system and took his own life at 20 and died alone and afraid. Please don’t send your loved ones here! They will NEVER get to the problem! And will call for a family meeting yet will discharge a patient despite a family’s opposition!

Negative rating would be my choice. Got a therapist that was still in training and barely did an evaluation and gave a wrong diagnosis. She didn't even try and explore any other diagnosis. For that time they made me believe in it and would outwardly be and sound annoyed when i refused medication. Even got a lovely eye rolls from Dr. Alam. I had to go to two other psych locations and they all told me that the diagnosis from "Dr. Alam" was conpletely wrong. Honestly, save yourselves from any more mental scarring because that's what this place will do to you too, oh and your money.

Filled out the lengthy online "appointment request" form, which ended by saying someone would contact me within 48 hours. 2 weeks later and nothing. I visited their office at 833 Chestnut St to make an appointment in person, and the office is physically locked with the lights out. There is a sign on the door to call the office to schedule an appointment. Call the office that is physically closed and no one is in there. I have called many times and left many messages without answer. The JEFFNOW phone intake center is not allowed to connect patents to the Psychiatric and Behavior department. This entire system is flawed and extremely frustrating and speaks to how difficult it is to get mental health care in this city and country.

👍👍 I have worked with many counselors. Dec. 14, 2022 I celebrated 9 years free from addiction. Needless to say the road to recovery came with many prices to pay.
