Perfect restaurant. For something located very nearby to major tourist attraction (Royal Palace) this restaurant offer a really cheap price. I paid €18 for a fantastic 3 course lunch, and it's more worth it than any other restaurant in Madrid. Food tastes awesome, interrior is super nice. Definitely a must try restaurant.

Located in front of the Royal Palace and the Plaza de Oriente, this restaurant was a great surprise during my trip to Madrid. The tables outside give us a wonderful view of the area. Go downstairs to visit the restaurant (you should book a table before). The atmosphere is pure History and beauty, with a nice staff serving us great meals.

I mean. It is what it is. Gorgeous decor. Gorgeous view. Gorgeous service. Gorgeous food. Prepare to pay but you know what they say.

With Royal Palace in view when we dined, price was higher for a good reason. We enjoyed our outdoor seating, weather was chilly but with heaters around us, it was an unique experience. Scrumptious food was elegantly presented. People watch when sipping wines. Wrapped up meal with yummy Irish coffee. Will recommend.

I love this place! Amazing atmosphere, decoration, a lot of interesting details. Have one if the best location. You can stay on terassa and enjoy view of Plaza Oriente or seat inside and be in special atmosphere. All staff are very kind and nice! Have good choice of breakfast, deserts, have good menu. Almost all breakfast served with French fries. Highly recommend to visit ☕

Nice meal, lovely venue. The truffle soup was a bit too much for me but the rest of the menu was beautiful. I could eat the meats and bread all day

Had dinner here on a weekday. Great location in front of the de Palacio Real. I had the veal with tuber chips, together with the usual Spanish starters like jamon, tomato and bread, eggs with shrimp and mushroom, and chorizo sausage. Dessert was a french toast with ice-cream nestled in a pepper glass bowl made of sugar. Service was attentive and the restaurant has a good ambience whether for a business meal or a catch up with friends.

We went for a short coffee break before our departure from Madrid so the memory is quite vivid. Coming from Vienna my first impression was if I am entering a Wiener Kaffehaus (traditional viennese coffeshop). As it appears the interior is in fact inspired by viennese coffeehouses. The only thing missing tough is a huge display case with cake and other sweets. But after ordering coffee and sweets from the menue this "critic" can be forgotten :-D My wife had the slighty warm cheesecake with fruitsauce and I tried the traditional torrija del Café de Oriente con tofe y helado (a kind of french toast infused and topped with rich and delicious toffee sauce). It was a delight. It is a little bit more expensive but it's quite an exquisit location and interior. The only thing I want to mention is that from my point of view the staff could be a little bit more courteous. But to be fair this is not an issue we experienced just in the Cafe de Oriente but in nearly every place we went (except some small tapas bars). So I guess it's more an cultural difference. In case of the Cafe de Oriente it was quite vivid to me because I know the feeling of a viennese coffeeshop and though the waiters in vienna are known to be rude (Wiener Charme) they are more around and ask more often if they can bring anything else. All in all it was an amazing and delicious visit and I think I would visit the Cafe again next time.

Amazing view and food was excellent. We loved the cheese plate and the blue cheese was exceptional. The calamari was out of this world!

Not a cafe. But a darn good restaurant. I had the lunch menu and felt like a local. The goat cheese and vegetables were the star of the show, one of the tastiest things I've ever had. The main dishes were just pretty good. I would say that the starter and the desert were the best, I recommend just ordering their house desert and letting them surprise you. Located in a beautiful old building with views of the palace. Service was good.

We stopped by for aperitifs after visiting the Palacio Real. They were full but managed to accommodate our group of 11 (including 3 kids). The tapas were excellent and reasonably priced!

Its location is wonderful. Located just in front of the de Palacio Real. We had some nice drinks and something to eat to refresh our afternoon with our kid and one friend while we were touristing the area. Great stop while you are doing tourism in Madrid.

My friends and I stopped here to have some coffee & warm up while we waited for the rain to stop. The Café bombón & Torrija were amazing! Also, the waitress was super nice & friendly.

We went there this week end and it was a really bad experience. We ordered a bottle of champagne that arrived hot and without any bubbles. We had to insist a lot for it to be changed when the bottle costs 110 euros. Then the food was cold, the pork meat was completely undercooked, everything was drenched in bad sauces. Then the toilets had cockroaches everywhere, when we mentioned it no one reacted, the waiters were calling us by very familiar names like “chicos” when we were with elderly people and they kept mopping around our table while we ate. The place is pricy and it was dirty, bad food and bad service. It s a tourist trap.

The language barrier and the waiter’s refusal to pay attention were just too much not to leave a review. I would point on the menu to a scallop dish…he would bring shrimp…pointed to red wine…he brought white…then brought rose…then finally red…asked for bread and got olives…the waiter was completely no help. How a restaurant worker can see where you’re pointing on a menu…agree…then bring something totally different is interesting to say the least. I’ve travelled to numerous non English speaking countries. Never and I mean never had a problem. Very big problem in Spain but I thought a high end restaurant in a tourist area would be different. He was quick to ask for a tip though. We are easy going so we went with it but it was not acceptable by anyone’s standards.

I really like this venue. Stunning views to the Royal Palace. I love sipping wine while contemplating the beauty of Madrid. Also dogs super welcome.

The seafood tasted as if it was frozen for quite some time. The steak was over salted to the point I could not eat it. The wine and view were great. However the food and staff were OK at best.

We organised a professional dinner with a group of 36 people. We had various dietary restrictions, the service was perfect, they were nice and professional, well organised and the food was truly delicious. We were adviced to take the traditional menu and our guests loved it.

The waitress did everything she could I understand, points to her thats why this wasn't a 1 star. But we were there for their famous dessert and some drinks. We were told there would be a free table in about 5 minutes. Another group came and cut the queue, and we were made to wait for another free one. By then, the kitchen was closed...

Food was good but on Monday noon service left a lot to be desired. My order came first and my wife’s approx 30 mins later after a reminder. We ordered a second cappuccino each and that had to get a reminder also. I asked for butter when bread was served before meal, and it was delivered as they were clearing off plates.

Nice views of the palace. Food was expensive but the servings were big and quality high, so a fair deal

Nice place with a great view in front of the royale palace. Usually very quite before 21h00. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Great location near the Palace, but keep in mind that you can only get the cheaper prix fixe menu if you sit inside. Restaurant has an old world charm with a good number of locals. Food was pretty good...3 course lunch with drink and bread included was 11 Euros per person.

I was so excited to go back to this place after 20 years since my time as university student in Madrid. I was with my 12 year old son and the waiters couldn’t be more rude. We asked for a table in the terrace and were told to sit in any table and then another waiter came and asked us with very bad manners to move to another table because it was only to have dinner. I had no other alternative that leave the place as I was not going to stand such a bad behaviour, specially when there were plenty of tables empty. It’s a real shame that we had to go through such a bad experience specially for my son. However I’m glad that there were so many other places around in Madrid with lovely people who are conscious of providing a good service and not biased (date: 03/04/2022 around 7:30 pm)

Amazing service and good food! I got a Zuma Tropicana and a carrot cake. Too bad there was no English menu (though this wasn't a problem for me). The waiters were very nice and the food arrived quickly! Would recommend!

One of the bettee meals on our visit to Spain. The tomato soup was delicious and their seafood rice dish was outstanding. We found the service was better than several other places we visited on our trip

A truly fantastic place located on the Plaza de Oriente right between the Royal Palace and the Opera. The service is absolutely remarkable of courtesy and professionalism. I had the atún toro, which was perfect, and the tarta templada de queso as dessert - it was very delicate. The Spanish red wine was divine. All this on this elegant square and in a stylish atmosphere. I highly recommend and will come back in the coming days, even before returning to Paris.

Had lunch with friends over delicious food and stayed for almost four hours talking that our lunch extended to finish with afternoon tea. We were well received. Only complaint is we had to part ways with friends on their own itinerary. Our paths just pleasantly crossed here in lovely Madrid and what better place than this Cafe.

Good food and the views are spectacular in front of the Royal Palace.

Nicely decorated restaurant near the palace with an English menu. The food was good and in large portions. Probably better for an older crowd who want a comfortable sit down experience. Quite empty when I went during a weeknight.

Far too expensive. Had to ask 3 times for a glass of tap water. (This is free and must be served by law) Poor service and manners towards customers can be improved. I wouldn’t recommend it. Great location and nice to sit outside tho.

The place is situated in a beautiful location, as well as beautiful decor . Nothing we ate was excellent and for example we ordered foi and compared with other places were it is prepared either between phyllo leaves or in some other interesting way in this restaurant they brought some pieces taken from a can served on a board with some flat bread ( price €29). I felt assaulted

It's a lovely place, very well decorated with amazing views. Food is nice. Of course, you pay for the location as well. Waitress could be friendlier, specially with tourists.

This business should be closed. Especially at this most touristy place. I walked in to have coffee and dessert and they rudely refused to service me. Since when restaurant decides what you want to eat??? Can you believe it? To demonstrate that I am not welcome the waiter removed table cloth, plate and glasses. I didn’t know such places exists now days 👎🏼

Great location if you want to have dinner/drinks facing the side of the Royal Palace or Plaza de Oriente. Staff was very nice and they actively monitor tables opening up for guests who are waiting for one. $5 Tinto Veranos were the most expensive of our trip in Spain .. and also the worst.

  • 5/5 David W. 1 year ago on Google
We can’t rate our experience highly enough. It certainly gave you the feeling of being grand. We didn’t know what to expect. Staff offered menu in English which we appreciated. We ordered glass of white wine which was lovely and only €4.50. We ordered a sharer and one meal to share as it was lunch time. A fresh bread roll, sampler cold tomato soup and large olives served before our meal was a nice gesture, and then a sweet surprise at the end. Fantastic place, nice touch and great quality and the location location location just brilliant.
