Three Michelin Star ! We booked dinner bed and breakfast. Check in was simple and the receptionist showed us to our room which was really nice, came with its own outside roof terrace, a continental breakfast was serviced in our room the following morning. The fine dining evening meal was incredible! Three Michelin star! Possibly one of the most elegant meals I have ever had. There were more staff than customers and their attention to deal was quite simply remarkable. I would have loved to have taken some photos of the food however, it wouldn’t have been appropriate at the time.

Absolutely world-class dining, with outstanding food and service. The dining room is beautiful, although a bit loud at the peak of the evening. Every course, without exception, was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Unexpectedly, there was a complication with an allergy, something that should not happen in a restaurant of this calibre, or really any restaurant, but the staff and the Chef himself reacted very well to resolve the situation. Highly recommended.

Classic French cooking done superbly well. Catered for this vegan with minimal fuss and dishes presented very similar to my partner. Loved it! Say it quietly, best meal in Bray.....

Food was good. Wine service was well below standard. A query with the sommelier resulted in more disappointment as he was not prepared to admit fault to serving warm white wine. Sort it out Alain Roux or you will have more unhappy patrons who do not become regulars.

Four of us enjoyed the tasting menu on what was a perfect summer evening. The evening started with a drink on the waterside terrace watching boats float by on the river. Taken inside by the warm friendly staff we experienced the most exquisite cuisine, presented in a perfectly timed sequence. The food is exceptional as you would expect of a restaurant with such reputation, but special mention to all the staff who were warm, friendly, engaging and humorous. We were talking about possible dates to return before we were halfway through the evening! Thank you to everyone who made an evening to cherish.

Before I begin, let me say that everything below is my opinion and my opinion alone. For over a decade my wife and I have looked for the opportunity to dine here. At last the opportunity came up at the end of a cruise in the Mediterranean.  We extended a layover in London for 24 hours so that we could enjoy a nice dinner there on my birthday. The inn and it's surroundings are excellent.   Nestled right next to the thames, It is in a marvelous little village with a lot of character. The inn itself is quaint and understated with a tasteful and cozy atmosphere The staff couldn't have been nicer. At every turn they were smiling, polite, and helpful.  They were the platonic ideal of how hotel staff should be. As I said, were there for my birthday. We stayed only one night.   For my birthday dinner, we indulged ourselves and tried the chef's tasting menu with the accompanying wine pairings.  The biggest hit of the evening by far was the foie gras.   It was exactly what you would expect from a Michelin 3 star restaurant.  It was light and creamy with a whole host of subtle flavors.  It was genuinely excellent. Aesthetically, for all courses, the plating and presentations were beautiful. They were a pleasure to behold. Unfortunately, these were the only things about our entire meal that, in my opinion, was 3-star caliber.  The rest of the meal was from mediocre to good. Nothing was outright distasteful, but nothing had spark to it either. The hallmark of a Michelin 3-star restaurant is a kind of edginess.   There is a willingness to take chances. Even within the confines of French haute cuisine, there is a kind of whimsical quest to experiment. That wasn't true here. Except for what I noted above, everything was very middle of the road and unimaginative.  Uninspired is a good word. Finally on a personal note, there were at least two other people in the room celebrating birthdays. In all three cases they brought us a slice of cake with "happy birthday" written on the plate in chocolate.   That was a nice gesture, but for over $1, 000 invested in their dinner, I would have expected it to have been personalized. Overall, the experience was a disappointment. The staff, not the meal, was the highlight of the experience.

Beautiful location. Stayed in la Riviera which is lovely apartment overlooking the river. Food in the evening was revolting. Bitter, over seasoned and not worthy of a motorway service station. God knows how they got 3 Michelin stars! Stay in the apartment but if you want something to eat pop up the road to the Hinds Head; superb

I went there for lunch after a long walk from Windsor!! I am not sure what was the best: the location, the service or the food!! I guess that the three intermingle to provide a great sensorial impression and a feeling of welcome and respect! Expensive? Yes! But the best things in life are reached with some effort!

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch on Sunday. The service is excellent and the food is simply divine. If you travel by car they have valet parking which is great. The chef was able to accommodate our dietary needs which was great. All the food was so good and alcohol free for us. The scallops were absolutely delicious and was my favourite dish. As the Raspberry soufflé contained alcohol the chef made a chocolate one for my wife which was a really nice touch. We went outside and enjoyed the views of river sipping on some tasty coffee. I can see why it’s rated 3 star by Michelin.

Absolutely fabulous meal and outstanding service. Have visited a number of times over the years and have never had food or service like it anywhere else in my life. If you can go, go.

So don't get me wrong from this 3* review, the food was very good, as you would expect from a 3 Michelin starred restaurant. However I've dined at a fair number of single starred restaurants over the years and I hate to say it, but the waterside feels like it's lagging behind. The food itself is very classic and "safe". There's nothing particularly innovative about it, nothing that stands out and "wows" me. I thought that this was the criteria to earn your 3 stars. At £800 for 2 of us, I do not feel I got good value for money. The staff were extremely attentive and very friendly, although as they were rushing around a lot my chair was bashed into a few times, without apology. The wine selection was excellent and the sommelier knew his stuff. One other slight gripe was after the meal I got reception to order a taxi. Some unlicenced (or didn't display a licence) car turned up. We were charged considerably more than the Uber that got us there. Please switch to using a reputable, metered, local taxi firm.

The food was what you expect of a three star restaurant so I won’t comment on that other than confirm that it was excellent. The room we had was lovely but it had a fundamental flaw; the thermostat was in the cupboard and it kept resetting to 23°. This meant we couldn’t control the temperature in the room because the thermostat was isolated from the radiator. I tried turning the heating down low but it reset to 23° a little later. If it wasn’t in the middle of the night I might have been awake enough to do something else but as it was we just couldn’t sleep because it was hot, then cold when I opened the window, then hot again when the thermostat reset itself. I should probably have adjusted the radiator valve but you don’t always think logically in the middle of the night. When we checked out, I told reception and I subsequently received a welcome discount.

I was treated to a memorable birthday dinner here. We had the tasty menu for the whole table. Every dish was exquisite and tasted great. The service was also spot-on. Compared to other restaurants of similar calibre I’d say Waterside Inn caters to the more low-key and mature crowd. It felt like the chef was confident enough to focus on the ingredients and execution without any of the crowd pleasing gimmicks.

Like all the best things in life this place does not shout like many of its peers. BUT. Having been to some pretty fancy restaurants this is above and beyond anybody else in the world. It's not cheap especially the tasting menu. But the food service and Ambiance are out of this world. No wonder so many famous and important people visit this place on a regular basis. Absolutely outstanding

Myself and my daughter had received a voucher from my son in Canada for Le menu Exceptionell to celebrate my 70th birthday and the end of her treatment for breast cancer. We had the most amazing taster lunch of 7 courses. Every course was explained to us and how the chef would recommend it eaten. My daughter was not keen on one of the courses which was pigeon and they replaced it with a rack of lamb . Nothing was too much trouble. The service and the food was excellent. Even a birthday cake for me at the end. A fabulous treat. Thank you Waterside Inn, we will be back.

It has held 3 Michelin Stars continuously for over 30 years for a reason - the food is wonderful, the ambience and river view is beautiful, and the service is perfect. Even though we hadn’t visited since before Covid in 2019, Fred the Maître D’ remembered us and welcomed us back. Now that is service!!!

Excellent dining and experience. Absolutely loved it. The food was outstanding. Shame I couldn't have all the lovely dishes on the menu. All the little bits made the whole evening complete.

Great location, superb service and even better food! One of the best foodie experiences we have had. We stayed overnight and it was a memorable birthday celebration we won't forget.

It's hard to put into words how exceptional this restaurant is - you just have to try it for yourself. Molly, Elliot and the whole team made our experience special in a modern, contemporary and non-stuffy way - thank you, we'll be back!

If there is a better restaurant anywhere then I would love to arrange a visit. The welcome, the service are both exceptional. (With special thanks to Dario). But it is the food that is quite amazing. Every single mouthful is a joy to behold and remembered. I can't wait to call again.

Our third visit in 10 years. Still an incredible experience! We all had a wonderful lunch and even got to meet Alain Roux. This is not a super experimental, cutting edge, artsy 3 star restaurant. Its clever, classic French cooking with some modern aspects. People rating 3 stars or less because its not “modern” or “leading” are not informed of what style of restaurant Alain and his incredible team are running. Thank you so much!

Excellent, some of the best food I have ever eaten. Staff very good, attentive but with friendly chat, not stuffy. It's pricey, but worth it, for some of the best food in the land

Lovely experience. Great friendly staff, lovely rooms, and fantastic food. Rather expensive but if you can afford it for a special occasion, well worth it.

This is an exquisite exclusive restaurant in the beautiful village of Bray on the river Thames owned and managed by the renown chef Alaine Roux and family. The location and restaurant are stunning and the waterfront views from the restaurant are delightful. The wines and food as one would expect are par excellence and my colleague and I enjoyed the’Exceptional Menu’ with a medley of their finest cuisine. As one would expect the staff and the host were extreme professional and attentive. Their is valet parking and a small comfortable pre dinner area to relax in. Thoroughly recommended

Most incredible dining experience I have ever had! The service was absolutely wonderful and the staff was so amazing and friendly. Every bit of food I had was beyond exceptional, I would definitely recommend the lobster as it was probably the best thing I've ever eaten in my whole life. Also, the cheese board is to die for (if you're a cheese fan like me) but the desserts were also superb. The whole night was so perfect and left some incredible memories for me and my family. There is not enough words to thank the whole team at Waterside 🤍

Incredible food (naturally…), super friendly staff (very personal!), insane location next to the river… what an experience. 3 Michelin Stars for 30+ years…

This was my 2nd experience at the Waterside Inn. The first was fantastic but a few years later my 2nd visit was a let down. The service was perfect, however the sitting arrangement was awful. We had a table for two, sitting side by side facing the restaurant. It was like being a receptionist or watching TV! The mains were blands and the dessert, although technically excellent, had no flavour. The cheese plate was average, I could have bought it from Waitrose. The Champagne choice was poor. Overall, it was poor value for money. I had meals with more flavour in a bistrot pub.

We stayed and ate at The Waterside Inn over the Easter weekend April 2023. It was without a doubt the perfect stay. Treated like a king (or queen!) from the moment you pull up, with your car being parked for you, your luggage taken care of, happy and attentive staff throughout. I had a superior deluxe room which has a sizeable and comfortable bed, two bathrooms (split between a shower room and a bath room) and had evening turn down service when you went for dinner. All my toiletries were tidied up and aligned, my clothes folded and a complimentary Easter egg and chocolates left for me. Superb! My family stayed in the cottage opposite the restaurant, again beautiful and with a balcony that had a stunning view of the river and all mod cons if you had a longer stay and wanted to self cater. The food at dinner was exquisite, I cannot fault it. We chose the tasting menu and first tier wine pairing, it was mind blowing how well the wines went with the food. We had a similar experience at Angela Hartnett’s Murano in London and when a sommelier gets it right they really do change the entire taste of the meal, and here they have really got it perfect! You are asked in advance if you have an objection to foie gras, I don’t know that if you do have an objection whether they omit this dish entirely or replace it with something else. Personally I do think they could find an alternative with the kitchen skill available. That aside, I can’t explain how beautiful the food is, it totally meets 3 Michelin star expectations and you’re not left with an empty stomach as with some fine dining experiences. My favourite thing about the place is that the service wasn’t stuffy or formal. You are never made to feel out of place or not important enough, all the staff smile and make you feel welcome, and the little touches of respect like moving out of your way when you’re walking through confined spaces in the hallways all feels very natural and friendly. In addition, everywhere is immaculate. Every blade of grass, every flower bed, every surface, every inch, is clean, tidy, well presented, and looks like it was done yesterday. Breakfast can be served in your room as default, but as there was 4 of us a member of staff suggested having breakfast together in one of their heated outdoor gazebos - which was happily obliged, with continental breakfast overlooking the river. Stunning. The croissants and buns were the best we’ve ever had and the egg soufflé wasn’t to my taste but everyone else loved it. My small criticisms would be that the room was too hot for my personal taste, as the heating had been put on for my arrival. This is personal to me because I like a colder environment as I get hot so easily, but when I come again (which I shall!) I know I can just ask for the room heating to not be on. Secondly I think the check in and out times are quite stingy, with check in being 4pm and check out at 11am. This is quite late and early respectively and 2pm and 12pm would be more reasonable in my opinion. This didn’t detract in any way from an absolutely 5 star experience. Well done to Alain Roux and his amazing team, without whom none of this would be possible.
