This is an open-air point of interest. There are no tickets needed to my knowledge. Currently, it is under construction and blocked from view by a construction wall with a photo of the Puerta de Alcalá (see picture). The covering does give you a feel for its grandeur. I rated 5 stars because it would be very impressive to see if my timing to view it would have been better.

Pure Genius! We were not lucky as the monument was under renovation and we couldn't actually see it. But I gladly give a 5 star rating, and even more if I could, as it is the 1st time ever that I see that over the ugly scaffolding, the contractor installed huge pictures with the exact photo of the Puerta de Alcala. Take a good look at he picture I've attached: this is not the monument but panels with pictures of it. Pure genius :-)

We were very disappointed when we got to the monument, and saw that it was under renovation. It is completely wrapped in sheeting that has the picture of the monument on it. I've included a picture to better show what I mean. You can kind of make out the scaffolding.

Is a nice lovely archway in the middle of a busy intersection, if your close by or in the area there’s several places you can take nice photos of it.

Unfortunately the only day i went to Madrid to visit the city, the monument was hide by a big covering to renovate it. I will come back to see it in the future because many peoples advice me to see this amazing site. By the way, if you are french i recommend you to pass by the “Ambassade de France” situated to a nearby street in west direction.

Nice monument. One of the many doors that still stand from roman times. It reminds me a bit of the arch ot triumph in Paris, but smaller.

Although Puerta de Alcalá is under maintenance, that Complete Printed Curtain Wall make another sort of art to passengers. That’s another good sign from Madrid government, economic is good and have budgets to make it.

it’s very nice landmark in the heart of Madrid, with a great architecture, just pay attention at the details and you will be amazed. I would say that it’s a must place to see in Madrid. There is also the entrance in the Retiro Park, many coffee shops and restaurants.

Disappointing that this is closed for renovation and no one mentions it. The Puerta is covered with a tarp bearing it's likeness. Will be for months. Puerta de Toledo is not as majestic but is open.

The Puerta de Alcalá is a Neo-classical gate in the Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid, Spain. It was a gate of the former Walls of Philip IV. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. The square is bisected by Alcalá Street, although the street does not cross through the monument, and it is the origin of the Alfonso XII, Serrano and Olózaga streets. Its name originates from the old path from Madrid to the nearby town of Alcalá de Henares.(Wiki..)

Puerta de Alcalá, PATRIMINIO DEL MUNDO...Majestic!!! A gateway to Calle Alcalá and the city of Madrid. The area, the atmosphere, the gate itself...enjoyed everything about it. A MUST, indeed, when in Madrid. We ended our visit with a stroll at nearby Parque del Retiro, also a MUST when visiting Madrid.

A beautiful emblem of the city of Madrid. It gives way to the grandiosity of the city and it is centrally located near El Retiro park. I really enjoy walking around this area of the city. Great place for photos.

Puetra de Alcala is an excellent park inside Madrid city located alomost heart of Madrid. The general admission is FREE! but you have to pay for boat trip (6 Euro). It has different time schedule during summer and winter. During Christmas time, boat trip closes at 15:30. The architectural beauty and the artificial lake have an excellent beauty

Alcalá Gate is a monument built in a neoclassical style located in the Independence Square. The name of the gate is derived from the old road from Madrid to the nearby city Alcala de Eners. The gate was built in 1778 by order of King Carlos III, and replaced a smaller gate that stood in place before it. In 1823 the gate was damaged by the French involvement in Spain, and the signs of the damage are visible on the gate to this day. Currently the monument is under construction

Great tourist attraction. Unfortunately, it was being restored while I visited, so all I got see was a replica image on top of the actual Puerta de Alcalá. It is right by the Parque El retiro, which they call the central park of Europe. I absolutely loved this area ❤️❤️❤️

Super sick, walking to this and the sights in the park is definitely a bit of exercise but I wouldn't miss them. This was a more unique structure than many others with the 3 arches and it's pretty stunning in scale. Also, there are convenient spots for photos with it (for the Instagrammers)

The Puerta de Alcalá in Spain is an architectural masterpiece! Standing tall and proud, it exudes a timeless elegance that commands attention. The intricate details and impressive design are a testament to the rich history of Spain. Surrounded by vibrant parks and bustling streets, it serves as a magnificent gateway to the heart of Madrid. Whether you admire it during the day or see it beautifully illuminated at night, the Puerta de Alcalá is a true symbol of grandeur and a must-visit landmark.

Puerta de Alcalà is an emblematic and historic monument standing just in front of the "Parque del Retiro" (Retiro Park). During the holidays just a few days ago it was nicely adorned with chritsmas lights but now it is back to normal.

Madrid downtown easy to go everywhere, plenty of restaurants, reasonable price, highly recommend if you go to Madrid, but actor go around noon in the summer too hot!😉

It is currently undergoing repairs so I could not see it. It is all covered with a banner with a photo of it. The area looks pretty nice, a few fancy, expensive restaurants in the square, next to Parque del Retiro and Salamanca. Beautiful buildings and surroundings so real shame I missed the whole Puerta de Alcalá experience

It is one of the 5 royal gates that allowed people to enter the city inaugurated in 1778. This neoclassical granite arch was designed by Francesco Sabatini, the very first built in EU after the fall of the Roman Empire. It's a precursor of Paris' Arc de Triomphe or Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. It's also cool to note that it has 5 openings instead of the normal 3. This iconic landmark is popular so expect other people to be taking pictures. Usually people line up to take turns. Be very aware of your surroundings as you take a picture as it's a busy roundabout & you wouldn't want to have an accident just for a picture.

THE GATEWAY TO MADRID!!! Magical place to visit obligatorily. It is also in front (depending on the cardinal point in which the person is) of the Retiro Park. There are several restaurants, businesses and shops around, it is also in an exclusive neighborhood of the capital.

So beautiful place with too many people. It would be nice if you walk here in the night, its beautiful. But you need to keep your eyes at your wallet, because too many people here. The place is common to find. There are many police here so it should be safe to walk around. They will have some time to block the road for walkers, only taxi can entry. Will come back next time

A Neo-classical gate in the Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid, Spain. It was a gate of the former Walls of Philip IV. Many believe structures such as the Arc de Triomphe and India Gate are direct descendants of this very iconic gate which once housed the entrance to the Spanish palace. This is an iconic place in Madrid and the restaurants around this place are simply wonderful! Its a nice change to be in an open space in a somewhat congested part of the old city. But its a beautiful place though!!!
