A visit to Burg Hohenstein. There is a parking lot right in front of the Burg. It has only limited parking spots and is free. There is an entrance fee to the Burg. Inside you will find old artifacts from back when it was still intact. Take a climb up the tower and it will offer you fantastic views over the Polenztal. Inside the Burg there is a restaurant and Cafe. You can sit inside and outside with nice views down into The Valley.

For 1 adult and 2 kids I payed 120,- for 1 night including breakfast and dinner. Now comes the shock: we took the very simple food from the buffet but for 6 euros per person it seemed fair. Then the waitress came asking us what we’d like to drink. We took 3 glasses of water . When we got up to leave after dinner she called on us saying we’d had to pay for the water: 7.20 Euro ! No one had told us that beforehand and there was no menu for the drinks with prices whatsoever. A complete rip off! I’ll certainly never come back!

Very cool underrated castle. Amazing views. Most of the original castle was burnt down in the 17th Century so most of it is renasaince period. The heat of the fire probably destroyed the sandstone structure. Will visit again during summer

1 star is given to the nice breakfast, no more. 1. Very rare bus connection, especially after 18:00 or weekends, which makes it very difficult to get back. 2. No Internet connection in room, even worse is the mobile connection is also horrible: you have No Internet in your room! Can you imagine this in 21st century? 3. The room quality is very limited, like a 1980's student dormitory, and they cost for 100 euro 4. The castle? yes, it is, a castle, and that's it. No special views or attractions here. 5. No more food or drink after 19: 30, and all stores are closed. No supermarket, No bar, No restaurant, even no light! stay away

Just visited the tower, which was open to take the stairs to the top for the viewing platform. Also a small exhibition on the history of the castle was open. Public parking in the square in front of the entrance gate. If you are in town, then fine to do the 15 minutes detour, or use it as a target for a walk in the nice wooded area. As a standalone not worthy of your time.

Can’t rate the rooms as we didn’t stay overnight but just walked up to visit for the views and eat at the Biergarten. Lovely spot to visit for scenic views and the food was good. Excellent friendly service

Tiny basic room with common showers and bathrooms in Jugendhaus Price is ok for being in a unique location but: Female and male bathrooms are on different floors, so either one always has to go somewhere totally different The room was so small that we could not even stretch on the floor. The room was across from the bathroom, and close to the game room. As isolation is not great we could hear every single move. Breakfast was decent and plenty. Dinner depends on when you go. The wait at the buffet and also the availability and choices are limited. But as there are not much other choices, better take it as well or be prepared.

Lovely stay in a medieval castle. Big room in Unteres Schloss with great view. Good hearty german food was what we needed after a day of hiking Malerweg. Staff was very friendly. Highlight of our stay in the national park. :-)

We just took a tour of the castle and its like a great architecture of its own. Made over the mountain top and its really admirable. Just take bus from Pirna or bad schandau to reach this place.

Like a youth hostel, but within a huge building existing since the fourteenth century. Excellent views and all doors are open, to the castle garden, the tower and the historic museum. Prices are very reasonable. Four people one might with buffet breakfast and dinner 132 EUR. Including bed linen. All very well organised, clean and spacious. It was warm under the roof and the windows could not open far, clearly because they watch straight into the depths surrounding the castle. Breakfast buffet more than sufficient, included vegan pate. No options for vegan butter. Reasonable coffee, hot chocolate for the children. Coffee after dinner was much better quality. Vegan option for dinner available upon request and of a good quality. Got a noodle dish, pretty salty but tasteful and with some fresh salad a decent meal. Worth the hike and definitely a place to come back to.

Stayed here at the hostel as a family. Amazing location, well maintained and spotless. Friendly management. Payment is per person so it was relatively expensive as a family. Mattresses were not very comfy. Dinner which was included was ok. Drinks not included. Breakfast was better.

Scenic location in a cute small town. Room had a damp smell other than that the room and facilities were clean and would definitely stay there next time when I visit Hohnstein.

Beautiful town with great hiking routes. Castle is nice and well maintained, but is a functioning hotel and youth camp, so many areas are private. I imagine starting as a guest is quite an experience though.

Amazing place. You're literally living in the castle. Breakfast is simple but you wont be hungry. Atmosphere is lovely. Good price/quality ratio. Recommend.

Amazing hostel. The location is really amazing, it's like staying on a monument for the night. The castle is located on a high rock formation, and the view is great. I was hiking and the malerweg is really close. If you are going there definitely visit the gardens and the views tower !! Amazing breakfast with a lot of choice , and really good room (I had a single room for 28 euros!). The bathroom was clean as well. Totally recommend!!
