Good trail for a nice walk with the family and dog. You're going to need to park in the Hemlock parking lot for easier access. The trail can be really muddy at times so beware. There are several branching trails away from the main waterfall so you can spend a solid hour or two exploring this area of the park. A few picnic benches along the trail and water stream.. definitely recommend!

I really like this trail. If you have mobility issues (but not ideal for a wheelchair), you should be able to handle this trail without too much extra effort. But be forewarned, the pathways are rocky. When you get to the falls, there are a few benches. I saw a chipmunk and a robin while I was there. So, it's great a good space for kids to learn about nature. Enjoy!

Nice and easy hike from the parking lot. Plenty of traffic of people walking their dogs or with kids. It's a pleasant walk up the creek and then the picturesque cascades. There's plenty of trails to trek on from there and a rocky scramble at the top of the falls. Overall I would visit again and bring the family.

Super cute little nature walk, huge trees, lots of cover. The falls are very easy to get to as well, it’s a pretty flat walk to them. If you can or want to take the stairs to the left of the falls then hang a right at the top and head onto the rocks. The view up there is pretty. Overall a great little outdoor haven.

Such a beautiful place, peaceful and great to just sit and take a few deep breaths. The falls were on full blast. Love the hike long trails, especially in the winter.

The fall is beautiful. Get here early as it is crowded. I highly recommend climbing up the stairs to the top of the waterfall! You can see a wonderful view and it will make a great photo from below.

Never disappoints. Crazy to think so many of us travel across tb3 country to just see what we could see right here in NJ. Amazing views, peaceful hike, fall foliage adds to the beauty.

Winter is even better in some ways than summer. No crowds, the falls are usually frozen and beautiful. Keep them away. They don't know what they're missing, but I'm glad those mobs aren't here in the winter.

The area itself is great minus the broken glass left all over the trail and stream by people. I collected a bunch to clean out the area kids were playing. Kids loves it here. Lots of people walk there dogs. If we all help out a little we can make this place better. There are visible mosquitos larva in pool of water. So make sure you get protection. No animal or insects were harmed in my photo.

A good trek place, but If you are looking for the waterfalls I think the best time would be spring and not summer. A small streak flows now instead of a splendid waterfall. The place also has lot of mosquitoes and bugs so beware of that if you are planning a late evening trek. Overall a decent place to spend the evening.

A decent hike overall. The falls were a bit underwhelming as the water level was pretty low. The photos on Google Maps looked much nicer than what we saw. Our group left the main trail to river climb to see if there was anything else to see and unfortunately we were parallel with a busy road for most of it which didn’t feel like we were out hiking with the sounds of trucks and cars going by.

Great falls to visit with kids. One large one and a small one before you hit it. There are steps left of the large on that allows access to the fall top area. The trail is gravel based and had stone chips laid out in places which accumulated water. A bug spray might help as it is a bit humid and mosquitoes were having a field day. Closest Parking is just after the Lenape trail walkway that goes over S. Orange Ave, on your right, it shows up in google maps. But it is limited so plan ahead.

An easy and short trail to a small waterfall. Google "hemlock falls trail head" to get to the small parking lot that is at the beginning of the trail. You pass by a small stream on the way. Overall very peaceful and there weren't any mosquitoes when we went. The actual waterfall was pretty small, probably not worth going to if you live far away. It also gets pretty crowded around peak times and there was a lot of broken glass at the top of the falls.

We came here for a photo shoot and were very disappointed. Unfortunately the heatwave of this summer dried out the waterfall and the river. All that remains is a couple of puddles and pockets of quicksand mud where the river should be. If you just want a challenging hike…go for it. (We walked for an hour before we reached the dried out cliff where the waterfall should be. Don’t expect to see any cascades.

Love coming here! Beautiful hiking trails, the waterfalls are excellent. Great place to spend an hour or two or a whole day with family and friends. Bring snacks/water bug spray etc. Multiple places to park and then enter to enjoy the area.

Excellent place. If you need a space to admire nature and spend some time disconnected from the city, this is an ideal space. I recommend it 100%

We loved the trip to hemlock falls. It is a short walk from the trail head. There is parking for 10-12 cars there and was full on the weekend when we went there. There are a couple of rocky sections but the path is wide and well laid out. There is a small rocky pool at the base of the falls where one can take a dip or wet your feet. It is a small waterfall. We had fun.

Late Post: Went hiking about three months ago now for, might I say, the first time. Well, we got lost for about an hour..lol. Cell service was down in the woods and happened to walk a bit farther than we realized. We managed to find our way back after walking for 3 hours. It was just so beautifully serene and lovely being in nature. Definitely will return, being more mindful about paying attention to tree markings. Overall, a fantastically and yet almost dreadful experience..my glutes and calves are thankful..lol

Wonderful walk through nature in the middle of the city. This is a beautiful break from the buzz of city life and gives you that much needed retreat. It's an easy one mile hike to the falls. We were a little late and most leaves had fallen, even then we found it to be incredible. Summer lush and peak fall colors will be a superb time to visit. Fun for kids and to walk your dogs.

We did the hike to Hemlock Falls from the Locust parking lot following the white trail. The trail is pretty flat and it is 2.5 miles to get to the Falls. The Falls are pretty small but is serene and relaxing. The water is very shallow about ankle deep. There are benches at the Falls and at the top area to relax and enjoy the view. Recommend for family with small kids. You can walk your dog along the trail too.

It was a short walk (yellow trail) from Tulip springs parking lot. The fall itself is quite small and nothing impressive, but the view from the top of the fall was magnificent. You just walk up the stairs right next to the fall and you can see stunning fall leaves surrounding the fall. You should not miss it

Beautiful place. Easy hike as well. I came here unprepared (no hiking shoes and was wearing a long dress) but I could still walk around fine! This place is close to the Turtle Back Zoo and relatively flat with some stairs if you want to go to the top of the waterfalls and has plenty of seatings, so it's quite family and dog friendly. Parking was quite challenging though as there is limited space so make sure to plan ahead.

Went for the first time this week. Beautiful falls and hiking trails. The cool crisp weather makes the hike extremely enjoyable. The leaves changing color makes this a picture perfect location and a fun activity. The actual falls are small so would recommend getting up early to avoid crowds. Masks are required, thank goodness.

A great little waterfalls in the suburbs. It's part of the underutilized South Mountain Reservation in Maplewood, Millburn and West Orange (although the falls are in Maplewood). An easy hike from the parking lot on the eastbound side of South Orange Avenue.

The falls are little more than a trickle as of the date of this review. The pool at the bottom won't reach much above your ankles. But it is a pretty and shady spot to sit on the couple of benches nearby and watch the water. My first visit in decades, it is much as I remembered, trails are clearly marked but natural. I recommend sturdy shoes once you go beyond the falls. They're are multiple marked trails with varying degrees of difficulty that may be challenging to those used to strolling a boardwalk! But it is a great place to hike.

Came here seeking to clear my mind in the serenity of nature, but unfortunately, people were blasting hip hop music so loudly, that no matter how far I tried to hike away from the music, I couldn't escape it, nor even hear the sounds of nature. There are picnic/BBQ areas outside (still near) the reservation where you can play music if you like, so it's very inconsiderate to do so in the forest/on the reservation..I'm pretty sure it must have been disruptive to wildlife as well, since their hearing is much more sensitive.. If you come here, please choose to be considerate & respectful of mother nature, wildlife, and your fellow brothers & sisters that come here to unplug from the ruckus of everyday life..

Came down here a little too late during the evening but I still had some time to view the falls and the surrounding area. There were plenty of benches to sit down and relax while enjoying the view. Just the sound of the waterfall can make you feel at ease, unless you forget your flashlight for the darkness. And trust me, those phone flashlights wont do a thing to light up where you're going at night. If you want to get a quick view of the falls, theres a small parking lot on the east-bound side of south orage ave where you can get on the trail and reach the falls within 5 minutes. Also of course there are maps on the trail to guide you through everything. It was a nice and serene location to visit.

Great hike, alot of uphill which is great! Some nice scenery a little muddy this time of year, not too crowded on a weekday. We did the 6 mile to the falls and out. Little confusing on the way out but just stay with the river on your right if your in the locust lot it will bring you back

This is a wonderful hike for all ages. The Trail follows the river and is gorgeous all the way through with many opportunities to view the water and too many waterfalls. The bridge is also very cool to cross over and offers a great photo opportunity. Wet trail after rainfall full of roots and rocks so watch your step and don't forget your GTX shoes. Well marked, parking area with a few picnic tables
