What an absolute horrible place to be! We rushed my elderly dad here (by ambulance) to be treated and after 6 hours we were told that he could go home. All tests could be done outpatient because they had no rooms!? When we refused, because he was having trouble breathing and his legs were terribly swollen, they kept him in the ER for 3 days! When he was finally admitted, we noticed many, many empty rooms. It turned out there were plenty of rooms, just not enough staff. His nurses, with the exception of a few, were terrible. Older people often exaggerate about mistreatment but my dad was spot on. We saw him mistreated right in front of own eyes! Nurse Annie needs to get more training in nursing and in how to be more compassionate and empathetic. When she completes her training she should apply for a job at starbucks. She has no business being a nurse. My family feels guilty about taking him here for care. The only reason we did was because back in April of 2022 he was given very competent care. Now? If you love someone- do not take them here.

I first off have to say i used to love this hospital. But I've now walked out twice due to the disrespectful way i was treated. This last time drew the line for me. The nurse who gave me my IV in the ER did a horrible job. The placement was extremely painful. When i asked my attending nurse to please move it to my other arm she argued with me until finally she decided to move it. She then proceeded to poke and jab my other arm like she had no idea what she was doing. 8 times she tried then finally told me oh you'll just have to deal with it i can't get it. After that i had to urinate. I was hooked up to several machines. It took 16minutes for her too answer the nurse bell. When i told her i need to use the rest room she snapped at me and said use the portable urinal she brought me i replied nicely that i had no problem using it but both railings were up and i couldn't even swing my legs around. She literally huffed and then took 4 more minutes after arguing to get to my room. When i finally had it with the mistreatment i told her i leaving. She proceeded to tell me i couldn't leave without singing papers that i leaving against medical advice but when i refused she began to threaten me and said "If you don't sign these papers im not taking out your IV and you WILL NOT leave this hospital" be sure i will be making a more formal complaint. This behavior is unacceptable in any medical setting especially an ER there too res treat people in immediate bed.

My husband had 2 visits to the ER in a 24 hour time span. The first was at 3am via ambulance. He was taken immediately to a room, evaluated and testing begun. We were in and out in under 2 hours. Unfortunately, later in the day while at the doctor's office it became necessary to call for an ambulance for a return visit. When I arrived to the ER 30 minutes later and inquired about him I was told he was in the waiting room. I am a nurse of 47 yrs with UPMC (retired) and am appalled that it is acceptable for ambulance patients to wait for hours and hours in the waiting room. I understand triage. However, multiple patients arrived after us and were seen and discharged while we still waited. The vending machines were depleted, the water fountains were out of order and the waiting room was at capacity with many, many people coughing and looking miserable. My husband was not the only ambulance patient waiting. We wound up leaving after 3 hours without him being seen after yet another later arriving patient was taken back. I do not blame the staff, they were doing the best that they can. However, if they are not able to accommodate ambulance patients in a timely fashion they need to divert to a hospital who can. I would have been upset had I arrived and that had happened, but I would have understood. This is total mismanagement of this emergency room to allow it to get to this point. Blaming covid or the opium crisis is just an easy out. Something needs to be done to address this or lawsuits will be coming. The only reason for the star is the security staff who were very kind and courteous.

My father was admitted via ambulance in August. He spent 3 days in the er. Then finally in a room. He received compassionate care from one nurse. The other nurses were horrible. He told us he would call for help at night. They would not come to help him. My brother and mother witnessed nurses being very rough with my elderly father. We got him out of there even though we were advised it would not be good for him medically. Well we could take care of my father better than those horrible nurses. Please pick another hospital for your loved one. No need to respond to this review upmc east. You don't really care all your responses are the same .

4 doctors on shift confirmed by nurse Heidi, and I was here from early yesterday & It is not after 4 a.m. the next Day! I am STILL WAITING FOR A DOCTOR TO RELEASE MY INFORMATION SO I CAN GO HOME. Dr. Marley, Allen, Johnathan, and Lee all on shift. As the nurse and I were talking security kept trying to find a way to shut me up as if I had right to be asking questions or listening to music. As I was speaking with the nurse she acted as if she was nervous or afraid to even talk to me. I am baffled and STILL trying to figure out how these people are even working in an environment involving other peopleā€™s lives with this type of mind frame. I will leave an updated comment letting you all know what time I actually leave here. Been here since. When I walked in there were only about 16 people in the lobby. There is NO REASON with 4 DOCTORS that anyone should have to wait this long for services when itā€™s an EMERGENCY ROOM! I watched a lady throw up for over 5 hours with no care until she was too tired and left. I watched another man. Barely able to even breath sitting in the lobby for over 6 hours. All coming in after me and STILL NO CARE! This is beyond me and the STATE NEEDS TO GET INVOLVED IN THE SERVICES THIS EMERGENCY ROOM IS PROVIDING TO THE ILL PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUNITY!

***Review pertains to outpatient imaging only. Have had excellent experiences with emergency department and cardiology, plus ICU staff*** Wow. Where to begin. I was sick the morning of, and called to let somebody know I would be exactly on time, rather than early like my test instructions asked. The phone operator immediately snapped at me that scheduling for imaging was not to be done by calling the hospital, then connected me to cardiology when I explained my need to speak to somebody. Huh? Myself and another patient were given attitude by the information desk when we tried to check-in for our appointments. There was a sign at the imaging desk instructing us to sign in at the information desk. The people at the information desk seemed annoyed that we dared to bother them, and told us to go back over to imaging. We explained the sign. They didnā€™t seem to care. I felt the information desk folks were especially rude to the elderly gentlemen trying to check in before me. The EEG lab is horribly placed within this hospital. The sounds of toilets flushing are extremely loud against one wall, whereas thereā€™s loud clanging sounds against the other wall as people move though the hallways with equipment. This makes sleeping during an EEG (as is often required) extremely challenging. I was startled awake during my test more than once, and this lead to my elevated heart rate being noted in my test results. Not cool.

DO NOT GO HERE. I waited 15 hours to been seen. Admission staff was extremely rude and didnā€™t care about anyone. No one would give any kind of update. Multiple people screaming in pain in waiting room, and no one did anything or cared in the slightest. After 15 hours I got a bed but in the hallway. After 20 hours total in the ER was told to go see a specialist cause they didnā€™t know why was wrong and take some Tylenol. Pretty sure they just didnā€™t want to take the time to figure out what was wrong. Ask nurse for water multiple times because I hadnā€™t had any in over 15 hours and couldnā€™t even get water. Wasnā€™t told what tests I was getting done either. Didnā€™t see a physician only a PA and he spent a told of 5 mins with me. The worst experience of my life. They donā€™t care about anyone.

My fiancĆ© and I were in the waiting room for four hours. This lady came in hadnā€™t even been there an hour flipped out on everyone and caused a scene and her family was then let back. Absolutely ridiculous, we just ended up leaving. This hospital is the absolute worse! They donā€™t give a single care if you are sick or dying. Very unfair to all of the other people who have been waiting longer than them, including us. I used to come to this hospital often but in recent times it seems that I have issues every time I come here. This is my last time coming to this hospital!

This is an absolute joke of a hospital. Come into the ER with chest pain, trouble breathing, and numbness in my limbs. Literally 9 hours in the waiting room before I had to make phone calls to other hospitals in the area. 1 lady working the front desk rude as hell. There should be a wait timer when you walk in. Or better yet, may as well as build a morgue instead of an emergency room. Stay away, pay more and go out of network because this was absolutely unacceptable.

I wish there was something less than 1 star. The way my dad was treated was uncalled for. He couldnā€™t walk, had a torn groin muscle. They didnā€™t help him to the bathroom or get him water when he asked. They didnā€™t help him at all with pain no ibuprofen or Tylenol. They didnā€™t even help him out of the room and to the curb to be picked up. If you donā€™t want to treat patients with any type of compassion you are in the wrong field. Nice to see how your veterans are cared for. Donā€™t even get me started on the experience I had when I went there. Avoid this hospital like the plague.

EDIT: Wrote two feedback forms with the link suggested by the owner below and received no response to either form. Unfortunately they show no interest in negotiating or resolving the price, so beware. I received a $6000 bill for being in the hospital for not even 4 hours. The emergency room fee for me was $2500, which is nearly double the average emergency room fee in Pennsylvania. The doctor, Dr. Mark Eubanks, was rude towards me and I didn't appreciate his tone. He was frankly unprofessional. Additionally, without informing me what I was doing, the nurse had me take a pregnancy test even though I stated with certainty earlier that I was not pregnant. The fee for that unnecessary lab procedure is $140(!). Customer service has not helped me. I won't pay this bill until I get a reduced price. I felt worse when I left the hospital than when I entered and I regret thinking UPMC East would actually help me.

No stars again for me. Been here for 4+ hours . Asked to see the nurse cause they told me too if I wasn't feeling well. That was a hour and a half ago. I just wanted to know my blood count to make sure it wasn't dangerously low so I can leave . No nurse. This hospitals patient relations say they take poor care seriously and they don't want their patients to have long wait times. They have have been asking us to fill out surveys and their"learning" šŸ™„ for years . Nothing ever changes. The only six good reviews of this hospital are really suspicious. Desk clerk is terrible can't break away from her conversations. I never saw a score to a hospital this low. But I can see why. Don't go here . St Margarets way better. Forbes is so-so. This hospital is a lost cause. Just found out 1 doctor for 90 ppl. All in patients. Don't waste your time at this hospital. They'll probably see this post and give me worse care like they did last time. They respond with fake apologies. Place never changes . Their always short on doctors . Ask yourself why doctors don't want to work for them.

Do not go to this ER. I have been sitting in pain for 4/5 hrs. The nurse refused to give me medicine because she said. I had to see a doctor. Found out that's not true. The doctor who was supposed to see me after sitting for 3 hrs which was around 4/4:30pm July 12 was rude and lack compassion. Before this rude doctor seen me. A PA had came to the hallway I was in, seen every patient except me. Nurse Jill also lacked compassion and tried to get me to leave after she asked me if I wanted to stay or leave. I told her I wanted a doctor and she continued to ask me if I wanted to stay or leave. My husband had to tell her I said I wanted a doctor. It's 2hrs later and not once was I asked if I wanted a blanket. I'm freezing and nobody is willing to assist me because I got upset I was in pain and the lady next to me seen a doctor and I'm still waiting. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I won't ever come here again. The attending doctor was nice. 5 almost 6 hrs later I'm finally getting discharged. Please note that my husband had to get me Ibuprofen for me to have some type of relief while I was waiting to see a doctor

I will NEVER return to this hospital again. I sat in the waiting room for 6 hours with Periorbital cellulitis spreading throughout my eye, throat swelling and I sat as the people that came in after me were called. Even, patients that came in a little bit before me being called back but not me. Nurses didnā€™t show any interest in doing their job. Nobody updated patients on anything going on. Nurses even asked an elderly woman why she couldnā€™t toilet her husband in a wheelchair by herself ( absolutely horrible ) I went to AHN and was in and out within 25 minutes. The behavior and attitude of the staff was sick and I personally walked out. Donā€™t GO HERE if youā€™re having a true emergency thereā€™s no sense of urgency to see patients. Theyā€™re completely out of order. Healthcare needs to be more mindful of who they hire.

Came to the ER to get treatment for a possible rabies exposure. Waited in the waiting room for 5+ hours before being taken to a room which was not entirely surprising given it was a Friday night/Saturday morning but annoying none the less given the waiting room was fairly sparse. I was told after my initial treatment I would need to go to the infusion center for my next vaccine but since the infusion center is closer on the weekend I would need to go to the ER for treatments 3 and 4. I was handed discharge papers in regards to my treatment and how to file this claim under workers comp since my possible exposure happened at my job. The paperwork I received for that was completely incorrect. On it, it states to call a number to start the claim on UPMCā€™s end and all it said was required for this claim was my employers name, number and address as well as their insurance info ā€œif possibleā€. I did not have that information but since it said ā€œif possibleā€ I figured it should be fine. I was wrong. In total I think I talked to 5 reps for UPMC. All more unhelpful than the last until the final rep actually knew how to do her job and was able to find all the information necessary. Going back to the treatments Everything went smoothly for my second and third treatments but when I arrived for my 4th treatment I was told there were no orders in for me and asked if I had a prescription for the vaccine. I told the person I spoke with that my prescription was taken at the infusion center during my second treatment but I was assured all the orders for my following treatments were put in at that time. They ended up having to check me in. I was then taken to a room and told that my vaccine would be brought up from the pharmacy soon. Shortly after, I had a gentleman come to my room, checked the check in paperwork that was made today after I arrived and say he saw I was here for a rabies shot and asked if I had ā€œmy papers.ā€ Other than the prescription, that I had already stated to the first nurse, was taken from me at the infusion center I have no idea what ā€œpapersā€ they are even talking about. This has been a frustrating and infuriating experience. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because there are a few kind people that work here who are not a part of the problem, my nurse Ally and the receptionist being two of the kind and compassionate people, but as a whole UPMC has some major adjustments they need to make with their emergency department as well as their customer service.

Absolutely horrible ER conditions. This is the second time Iā€™ve been here where Iā€™ve had to wait hours upon hours. There are people who are still waiting to be seen after 15 hours of sitting. Itā€™s just so wrongā€¦ People are throwing up, in severe pain, coughing horrendously and there is no urgency to have anyone taken back to a room. The woman at the front desk just keeps telling us that ā€œthere are no empty rooms right nowā€. Ridiculous. I doubt that I will return to this hospital unless I am literally dying. Thatā€™s about what it takes to get seen in a reasonable amount of time at UPMC East.

I've had a recent hospital stay and several outpatient procedures done at UPMC East. The Nurses Are Wonderful. Very Caring and Attentive. Doctors know their stuff but I find them a bit aloof. Doctors are Always in a Hurry. So much that when they do their rounds, they are literally walking away as you're still talking. I think the hospital is understaffed right now as my main Dr. was from Forbes, AHN. The nurses couldn't even reach him after hours to ask a medication question. Also it seems that at times during my hospital stay, everyone who is in charge of patients are not on the same page. I found myself filling them in many times or waiting on them to "find out the answer." I've also had to visit the emergency room several times due to my condition. One time my issue was less serious and I had about an hour wait in the waiting room. Then they put me in a hallway bed in the ER as all the rooms were taken. They Totally Forgot about me. After an hour went by I had to flag down a nurse passing by to remind them I was there. I got good service after that. Another visit did get me prompt attention and a actual room but this was a more serious issue. The staff did a good job with my care. I have ongoing outpatient treatments going on and have had good experiences with going to UPMC East for that. My outpatient appointments have been timely. Check in staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, I do recommend this hospital. It's smaller but Monroeville is a convenient location. Even with the busy doctors, the staff and nurses do a great job and genuinely care about you.

Emergency department staff is horrible! I have been going through the reviews and seen that Dr. EUBANKS was mentioned before for his lack of compassion for his patients. My family member was belittled, not treated with compassion, and not treated with respect by him as well as the nursing staff. He was very impatient and the nursing staff was laughing once they seen we were upset by the way were treated. He violated UPMC code of conduct as well as UPMC values and judging by the reviews this is not the first time.

This is by far the worst ER I have ever been to. The lack of urgency or caring is shameful. People were crying In for injuryā€™s, cancer patients, the elderly and no one cares at all. After 8 hours without any care I took my 89 year old mother home. We will go to a better hospital tomorrow but will never go back to upmc East. Beyond appalled at the care they could not provide.

I walked in the emergency room at about a quarter to 6:00 pm on a Tuesday evening. Security was very friendly and also the front desk staff. It was so packed in that waiting room. I had to go to the bathroom and I knew I was going to need a urine specimen so I asked him if I can get a cup while I had to go to the bathroom they said yes. Put the urine specimen in th bin. there was one specimen there before me. I waited as people were being called noticed that the urine gone back for testing. I received text messages on my visit there and it let me know that a nurse should be coming out to get the specimens to get them tested. So I went to the front desk and ask will someone be coming out and picking up these urine specimens she said yes someone should have been come out and pick them up so they did. I can see on my UPMC visit there that the test was completed I was still on the waiting room waiting to get called back but like I said it was a long wait but I was treated very nicely I got blood work taken I got a CT scan and I was out of there by 1:00 a.m. being a black person I can tell you I was treated with the utmost respect and they were very kind and caring and patient and I received absolutely wonderful top-notch care. I don't expect to go into a hospital emergency room and get in and get out. I also got my first dose of antibiotics that was great also and Tylenol for my pain. I have no complaints bathrooms were clean everything was nice neat and organized and I am truly happy with my visit to the UPMC East emergency room. Thank you..

Went to ER on 9/11. The care there was great and no issues. Got admitted to 5 East and what an experience. Iā€™ve never been admitted to the hospital so alot of things I didnā€™t know and when I asked I was told not my job. Ok so I wanted a clean blanket. I asked housekeeping who told me they couldnā€™t give it to me. I didnā€™t know til the 17th I could shower( I was given a basin on the 12th) and when I asked the nurse, Mona, she informed me it wasnā€™t her job. I wasnā€™t asking her to shower me, just asking if I could take one. I got the stuff, and took the leads off my heart monitor and 3 hours later a woman come in and yelled at me for doing so. Well I did it in front of the nurse and they said nothing. Plus why did it take 3 hours to notice? I asked for lemonade and was told it wasnā€™t on the floor, took 6 days for them to tell me to call dietary. Got it immediately. Again, didnā€™t know so how was I to know. Often times alarms going off for long periods of time. My iv stopped and for an hour every 2 minutes I pressed reset waiting for the nurse finally stood by the nurses station til they. turned it off so I could go to bed. Pain medicine was prn, but you couldnā€™t request til the full time was up so every 6 became every 6.5-7 hrs. Quite frustrating. There were great staff Kyle, Courtney, Elaine, Faith, and the surgery team was great but the day to day stuff was not what I expected. I was independent as far as bathroom and walking so keep my iv alarms quiet and really no need to both you but felt like it was a bother anytime I needed something. I definitely would use their ER again but hesitant if itā€™s something that could result in being admitted. And I did wait for a survey but never got one.

0 stars. 6-7 hours for my dad without seeing a doctor for 5 +. Itā€™s such terrible staffing job for the amount of people. They ā€œcanā€™t find doctorsā€ the whole staff tells every single patient through the waiting room as everyone waits hours and hours. Little to no empathy and 1 person at a time in the rooms. No staff wears masks other than one of the nurses. I cannot believe this is what our healthcare system has come to. This is the worst run hospital Iā€™ve ever been to in my life.

I was brought here for an extreme infection that was rapidly spreading. I was seen quickly. The triage nurse was a sweetheart and my 3rd shift nurses were attentive and understanding. I ended up being admitted to the 6th floor after about 12 hours in a bed in the ER. My care team on the 6th floor was so kind, especially Heidy. I spent almost 5 days here and didn't have a single complaint. My room was clean and even the housekeeper was sweet.

I went to UPMC East for their walk in Blood Lab. You walk in register turn in your paperwork unless your doctor's office already sent it over, then wait your turn. The lab techs are very good at their jobs. You don't even feel the needle stick. I would recommend this lab if you don't like needles. There is a wait but it is worth it.

Kyle from the ER department was extremely rude and unprofessional. Missed work sitting in one of their hallways because I didn't even get a room. Then they refused to give me a work excuse. The emergency department- specifically Dr. EUBANKS AND (physicians assist) Ashley Haney treated me with disrespect, degradation, and a serious lack of care. After going to the er for a panic attack I was offered psychotropic medication that takes weeks if not months to build up in a humans system. When I questioned the reason for said recommendation I was immediately made to look like I was being aggressive. Dr.Eubanks said I was scaring him , I didn't raise my voice, make any threatening gestures, move an inch, I simply asked why they thought this type of medication was appropriate.Dr. Eubanks and his PA Ashley Haney called security and proceeded to flip the situation around to make it seem like I was being aggressive. I just wanted clear answers, respected, and treated properly....upmc east Er has awesome nurses and staff- but the two individuals I named above are utterly disrespectful and diabolical

I was there on May 28, 2023 the service said on their website status viewing it on my smartphone it will be 2 hour wait time then it became a 4 hour wait time then I felt the workers are wasting their team maybe UPMC East is Understaff? I can clearly hear the Healthcare Workers making fun of me and other Patients which bothered me alot... It looks to me that the Admistrative Staff of that Hosptial is incompetent when I left it put me in a worse mood, I don't ever plan to go there again even if is an emergency.

The first time I came here chest pains and difficulty breathing I wanted in the waiting room over two hours before I left, went to another hospital and was admitted with heart issues. Today Iā€™m having upper stomach pain and vomiting, Iā€™ve been in a patient room waiting to see a doctor for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Not sure how much longer I can last! Horrible Er. They need to hire more people or something. Today only one person in the waiting room besides me. After 2 1/2 hours in a patient room and unable to see a doctor, also being told it could be 2-3 more hours, I left. I was told numerous times there are only two doctors on duty. However as I said when I got there, 2 patients me and a gentleman were the only ones in the waiting room. Per my on all dr Iā€™m going to another er.

Spent 6 hours at the ER. The receptionist shared with me a story about a friend with the same symptoms as me that went home and died shortly after. Very comforting stuff. I was seen fairly quickly. All my test came back good, but the symptoms were still present. I was discharged by a nurse who told me the Dr said my results looked normal. I saw a Dr for approximately 1 minute after blood tests but prior to x ray and CT scan. Anybody who has played the game "telephone" in elementary school should know that this is not the best way to relay information. I can't believe that there wasn't a few minutes to be spared by an actual physician at 3:30 a.m. Cutrate service at a premium price.

Never in my life have I experienced such cruel, demeaning and impatient medical personnel. The two emergency intake nurses were horrible and treated my girl so bad that we wanted to leave. We stayed because it was obviously where she needed to be. They got mad and started taking people back that came after us to "teach her a lesson." After 5 hours in the waiting room with her doubled over crying we made it back to a bed thinking the nurses in the back would be better. The nurse that came in to start the IV was even more disrespectful and when she couldn't find a vain left her bloody an slammed the door on us.
