Community center Mental health service Senior citizen center Hiv testing center Youth center Legal services Gay and lesbian organization

😠 I called the Center nearly a month ago to get an intake. They finally called me two weeks later (they always call from blocked numbers, so if you miss it, good luck getting another one for at least a few days) and I was able to eventually schedule an intake. The intake call happened about 20 minutes... People often mention call, services, community, intake, people, center,

I called the Center nearly a month ago to get an intake. They finally called me two weeks later (they always call from blocked numbers, so if you miss it, good luck getting another one for at least a few days) and I was able to eventually schedule an intake. The intake call happened about 20 minutes later than scheduled. That is fine, as I also work at a busy agency and understand that crises can happen. The intake actually went very well and the coordinator let me know that a therapist would call me when they found a match. I got a call the next day stating that they would move me forward with services and to, of course, look for a number from a blocked line. A week went by with no call, so I called the intake office again and left a voicemail. It's been another week. Nothing. Center, many of the people who call you are in need of services. Perhaps I didn't appear to be in much of a crisis, and that would be true, but it does not mean that I am not in great need of services. I am. I would at least appreciate a courtesy call to let me know that you are unable to provide services at this time. Believe me, I work at a youth shelter; crisis abounds and it's difficult at times. But I would never leave someone hanging. I respect the work you all do, Center, especially as a member of the LGBT community myself who used to work in LGBT crisis work as well. But this is ridiculous.

Do NOT book services here, they will NOT call you back. All these services they offer, they talk them up, make you feel safe and confident that yes, you finally have someone that'll help you on your journey who's in the neighborhood, and understands what you're going through. But no. They bail on you, ignore your calls, add you to the list of numbers they have for helping people that keeps growing. It leaves you feeling helpless, again. Not even your community has your back. Y'all need to do better. Long Beach is home to one of the biggest LGBT+ communities in SoCal. We should be there for each other and not have to struggle just to get a simple phone call back. This is truly a disappointing center who isn't there for their community enough. I couldn't imagine this center would be able to handle/help anyone in a crisis. Not without making them wait weeks for a call back first.

Unless you have a gun barrel sticking out of your mouth, you're pretty hit with a..."We'll have someone contact you in couple weeks following up on what programs we can best match for you." Been waiting since August 2018. In the last month of playing phone tag with you people. I truly ponder at the idea of people that eventually harmed and hurt themselves after hearing words of out right dismissal. They are not persistent. You tell them your availability upon intake. (Give all the portals of how you can be reached. Phone number, addresses, EMAILS!!! When they find that "perfect" class for you and it's not in your availability well, they can no longer sweeten the pot for you and leave at, "we'll just call us when you can make the class". Noone is proactive enough to say, "let's see what more we can do." Since you can not make one class so they drop you, the case. Thanks ALOT!!

Everyone was very nice but at the end of the day if you can't afford it you're left alone unable to get the help you need. Is it their fault? No, they do what they can with the resources they have. But it seems like an organization whose mission is to serve the community should at least be able to provide you with resources for getting help somewhere else, especially when the barriers are financial. Sometimes it takes a lot for someone to reach out for the help they need only to find out that the one door that should be open to you, the community you are a part of, is also closed and you're on your own, just like you felt you were.

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews here. This center offers free std testing like 5 days a week until 9 pm. You can walk in and get condoms. It is a great resource. Sometimes they even have essential health care products for free, they really try here

I called this place for the past week and never gotten a callback. I don't see the point of the center if they will not attend the needs of the community.

The LGBQT Center by far, is absolutely stellar!!! Their staff, & volunteers are the MOST friendly, MOST courteous, MOST helpful, MOST pleasant, & the very BEST place one could ever go for ANY questions, concerns, guidance, legal matters, support groups, (any sort of support, for that matter) in Southern California!!! Many times I've partaken of their services. Most of the time, their vast array of services had whatever I may have needed, & if they don't have a particular service and / or program that I was seeking, their courteous, kind, & very helpful staff were able to provide me with where to go to get whatever it was that I was looking for. I can't say enough good things about The Center.

I popped in for a STI screening and to get some general information about trans healthcare in long beach. Everyone who I talked to was more than cordial and understanding. I came in early, and was able to talk to the receptionist for a few minutes about what the center offered. Nobody really tried to rush me, and the two nurses who helped with my STI screen were polite and gentle. Even when I made it clear I historically have a hard time taking blood, they didn't try to force anything or try to fruitlessly stab me with the needle.

The absolute worst!!! I was recommend to come here because i needed some serious mental health counseling. This place has a TERRIBLE system regarding being reach out too. You can’t ever call DIRECTLY to speak with anyone & you have to leave a voicemail where they call you back with BLOCK NUMBERS & if they miss you by any means you can’t call them back or reach out & you have to wait WEEKS for another call from them. It’s almost as if they don’t want to actually help you. Some people have JOBS where you can’t run to answer the phone & the slow reach times. It took them almost 3 weeks AFTER my voice mail to receive a block call. Overall this place SUCKS!! If you actually need help find somewhere you can REACH THEM not the other way around. Stop advertising that you actually want to help ppl when they can’t reach you.

Not very kind to people of color here. Especially the ones apart of the LGBTQA+ community.

They don't care about your time or your feelings. Michael emails you weekly changes to a group. I finally get the nerve. He confirmed 7pm . I show less than 10 minutes early. . No one is there. The front desk tells me the group starts at 730. Stop wasting people's time.
