Charlie's is a family owned business. One of the few places left that cares about the customer experience. Yes, they can be busy at times. That's ok, they're busy for a good reason. It's worth a short wait. Charlie's provides great customer service, great food, a menu with huge variety & very fair pricing. The fully stocked bar has a local vibe and the best pour in GR. This is a quaint, presumably quiet, little hole in the wall Bar & Grille. But my God! The food is FANTASTIC (and solid portions)! And it's not always quiet. This place can be busy (a good sign, right?). The servers are all amongst the best in the entire Grand Rapids area... Seriously, this is a place that you need to check out! Charlie’s has it all. A local bar with the MOST friendly staff, lead by example with Charlie herself. The drinks are STRONG and the food is remarkable, made even more so by the prices. To be honest I don’t know how they do it. I haven’t left a review in some time and after a few visits I simply had to. Their mozzarella sticks are freshly made and idk if I’ve ever had them fresh before because it was an eye opening experience. Not to be missed is the vibe. It is the most welcoming bar in all of Grand Rapids, I dare you to find another one that’s better. Full meal with drinks for $20!?!? Tip those servers extra! Gotta let them know their place and service is appreciated.

Excellent local restaurant with a full bar. Most of the menu is homemade. Charlie is likely to greet you personally. Almost 24 years in business with a wide selection on the menu. Mexican, Italian, Steak, Shrimp, Fish and Chips, Sandwiches, Burgers, a wide selection of grilled cheese with homemade tomato soup. Generous pours on the mixed drinks. My very picky son about hamburgers said it is "The best hamburger he has ever had and he regrets not coming sooner".

Great food. Good portion size. The price was right. I paid extra for the tater tots and it was well worth it. The service was very friendly and the ambiance was everything that you could want.

We ended up at Charlie’s after dropping our dog off at the emergency vet across the street. She is an elderly dog and had her first of two seizures and the night was looking pretty grim. We couldn’t wait inside the vet, so off the Charlie’s we went. The experience was lovely. The servers were efficient and kind and Charlie, the man himself, we such a sincerely charismatic, inviting soul. Our food was great, the cocktails I had were fantastic, and the bathrooms were sparkly clean! What truly began as the night from hell got a little brighter from this experience. I highly recommend!

If I were to pick a favorite thing on the menu it’s definitely the Spicy mussels. The workers are all really nice and personable. They also have really good scallops if that’s your thing!!

Just moved into the area and everyone recommended this bar/grill for drinks and food the staff is extremely friendly and efficient. I like bourbon and they do an honest pour at a reasonable price. The food is very well prepared...the pan seared scallops are outstanding! They have a small bar which is always full so you have to hover to get a seat when someone else leaves. The dining room is very spartan and dim. The bar area is much more cozy and upbeat so I only eat and drink there when I can get a seat in the bar area. Charlie the owner comes out to greet her guests. I plan to visit frequently when I can get a seat in the bar.

Wanted a box of brown food, ordered a box of brown food and got a box of brown food! We were missing a few things but when we questioned it everything was made right.

Absolutely loved the place. Food was incredible, service was incredible. The only thing that bothers the wife & I? We drink vodka & water with a lime wedge?....$4.75....a teensy bit steep. But we'll go again for food but somewhere else for drinks.

It was our 1st time at Charlie's. Food was delicious, portions were huge & the Service was even better. Charlie heard it was our 1st time & came to inroduce herself & give us a little history on her bar. We can't wait to go back & try more delicious drinks & food!

A local watering hole with a lot of regulars who all know each other. Everyone, staff and customers, were warm and welcoming. Full menu with above average food for a "dive". Beer selection was quite limited, but with enough to make the best of it.

Great locals dive bar with excellent drink prices and tasty food. Had a burger, cooked to order, no bun with a sub of redskin potatoes underneath. Surprisingly went well together! The food came out hot and promptly. The drinks were on the table quick and poured in drinkers favor! They do have Gluten-free options. If you ask they may have a substitute in. The biggest negativite is the parking lot that has mountainous Michigan pot holes. Once that's fixed it will be harder to find a spot.

Great food, super nice and friendly staff. Waitstaff was pretty casual, but I can appreciate it in a place like this. Mozzarella sticks: 10/10, highly recommend!! Just passed through Plainfield, but would definitely come back.

I come here alot, but it took me 45 minutes for a second beer sitting at the 9 or so person bar before leaving. I only waited this long because I wanted to really see how long it would take. How insane, nearly an hour and I had to say something. Wonder how long it would of been. The lady was so angry and hateful. Don't understand, I'm a 200% tipper as well. Sucks they were so hateful. I was also really hungry and looking for a steak or burger, bartender never asked me if I was hungry during dinner. Food around me looked good. I'm really nice, but this place isn't for nice people I guess. I'll look around further for a place with nice staff.

It's a bar with bar food. Service to our big table was excellent. I enjoyed the most unique olive burger and tots. Their olive sauce was unusual and delicious. The hubs enjoyed fish and chips - he loved it. I wasn't impressed with the glass of wine I ordered - shouldn't order wine at a bar and grill anyway. Everything was reasonably priced. When we return - I'm getting the burrito - that looked amazing!

Out and about and thought we would stop at Charlie's. It has been a few years but it Doesn't look much different. Super busy but we received our drinks and ordered an appetizer. Scooby Snacks. Wow, it was huge, more than enough for my wife and me. I then ordered the Dagwood. Wow, it was huge (do you see a pattern?) We were only able to eat half of it between us. And very tasty! Included fries which were awsome, nice and crisp. Doggy bag for leftovers, app and sandwich. Won't stay away as long next time. Very busy, but the wait staff was hustling.

Went here for a quick bite to eat with my hubby service and atmosphere was absolutely amazing friendly people I believe the owner might have even stopped by to our table to say hello and ask how we were doing food was okay the only thing I really had to complain about was the coleslaw but I was craving a salad for days beforehand and I had the Caesar salad with homemade dressing and it was to die for

Great food. Great drinks. We need to support these neighborhood bars that mirror the local community instead of corporate blandness

It's a bar and dark. The foods pretty good just with slow service. We arrived j just before noon and it was slow, waited about 45 min for food as it got packed then ate and left. The food was good and a tad overpriv but what isn't nowdays.

The staff was awesome!! I told are server it was the first time we had been there & she was absolutely amazing 🤩 There food which is mostly homemade is incredible 😋 Can't wait to go again!!
