This state park gives you the best parts of natural Florida. It is exceptionally well maintained, and trails are easy to navigate and follow. There is a playground for kids, and my son loves it. There is bountiful wildlife to see here- this past trip we saw lots of turtles and an unusual amount of red shouldered hawks. There is really good tree cover for most of the trails, so it is one of the better trails to undertake during the summertime.

If you love nature trails and a beautiful river. This is the park to visit! Absolutely beautiful park! The trails here are awesome. But my favorite park was walking along the river that led to a really cool wooden bridge. Make sure to go across and hike the trail on the side. The best part is, it doesn't cost much at all to enjoy such a spectacular area. There are picnic tables and restrooms available on site.

Went for a day hike, did about 10 miles of the trails. Really enjoyed the river. There are simple trails that allow you to see the rapids, while small, the bubbling water flowing over the rocks is pretty cool and rare for this area. These can be seen on a short hike without doing a long-distance hike. I would say less than five minutes from the parking along the road. A ranger at the entrance can direct you if that is what you want to see. There are very nice boardwalks and paths along the river in this area. Very user friendly and very scenic. There are other areas with bathrooms, camping etc. We only hiked the trails. Going over the suspension bridge was a very fun experience. The water was much clearer than I anticipated. We saw a good many fish, and there were many alligators to see too. The trails were clear enough to follow, and not so wide as to feel like you were hiking on a road. Doing the longest portion that goes past the route to the primitive camping we only saw one other set of hikers. I enjoyed this area greatly as we saw some huge oaks and the portion that runs along the river gave a real glimpse at a river in a very natural state.

Visited this state park today and loved it. I kayaked and fished the river for a few hours. This park has everything, kayaking, camping, hiking, a pool, facilities, ranger station, small shop. The river has bass! I hooked into one and it spit the hook on me. The river is flowing with wildlife, gators too!! Very scenic and easy to paddle against the current. The kayak launches are easy to access. The rapids are protected, so no kayaking the rapids.

A wonderful park to hike beside the river and stop to admire the rapids. There are mens and women's bathrooms as well as portapotties. There is a kayak rental and gift shop near the parking area.

My parents got married there 43 years ago in April. I was born after but this place will forever hold a special place in my heart. Even still, it's beautiful, I've been there so many times to walk the trails and I've even kayaked through the river which I totally recommend to anyone who loves to do those things. It's absolutely awesome. You see so much more. Warning the river has Gator's all through it. They never once bothered us, as we didn't bother them, I've seen otters playing and recently my bf, my daughter and I got to see a beautiful owl perched in a tree. Can't wait to go back again.

Beautiful park for walking, nature observations and bridges. I enjoyed walking over the two bridges the most. Easy to navigate and up to date markings so you don’t get lost. The bathrooms were very clean. Plenty of parking.

Great park with a history that goes back to the Great Depression. Developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during FDR's presidency, trails were cut and established and an impressive suspension bridge over the river was built. A great way to spend the day or even a few hours - not bad at all for $6 a carload (at the time this was written). Be on the lookout for wildlife from alligators to turtles.

Incredible park, the trails are manicured enough to walk but not so much that it makes you feel like it’s too humanized. I came here really wanting to see an alligator and on the way out we were able to see one swimming in the river. The water is crystal clear, you can see TONS of fish swimming around. There were some incredible birds as well and some turtles. Out of our 7 day trip to Tampa this was definitely one of the best places we went.

Perfect place to experience some Florida outdoors. Canoe/kayak rentals for $40 for 2 hours on the river. Gators, hawks, and other wild animals a plenty. It's a beautiful place to explore.

Me and my husband went camping for a couple of days here. Beautiful park with lots of hiking areas near river. Well maintained and lots to see. Both primitive and RV camping available with water and power hookups. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Very peaceful when we were there. Can't wait to go back.

Campground is well managed, the restrooms kept clean, and the staff friendly. Renting kayaks on the river is always a highlight. The pool is presently closed for renovation. Site 10 required major leveling heroics but is beautiful otherwise.

Visited on Saturday 7/9/22 with my wife and kids (13/10/8). we only hiked the Rapids Trail, which was excellent. The trail was well maintained and dry, which was a surprise as storms had gone through the night before. We saw wildlife (birds, fish, alligators) and the rapids and riverbank are unique sights for the area. Will definitely return to hike the other trails (probably without kids!) and enjoy the huge swimming pool when it reopens in 2023.

The park is beautiful. Space 42 was very big and close to the river. The trails were nice, and the only bike trail was nice as well. What I didn't like is that there were no other bike trails, you cant ride your bike in the nighttime because "the road is closed for safety reasons at night," and the bathroom was super disgusting. I have never seen something like it. I think it is safer to shower in the river than in their bathrooms, no lie. I don't think I will come back to this park for a while. Ah, the pool is still CLOSED!. bummer.

Hiked the Seminole Trail. Great little hike! I went clockwise and the first half of the hike follows along the river. Some really great views and not that many people. The suspension bridge was cool. Seen a few fish down in the water. Mostly Plecos. I went back and looked at the primitive campsites. There are 4 sites. It's a nice open, clean area with fire pits and each site.

Nice little classic state park. The river is beautiful and they’ve done a nice job with plenty of bridge and boardwalk infrastructure where needed to enjoy it. If you are visiting the Tampa area, this is definitely worth a half day to visit the real Florida. I’ve heard that weekends are a zoo, but it was very pleasant on the weekday I visited. The trails are easy for families and I saw many people walking large dogs. Some parts of the Seminole trail were a little primitive though. Saw a few gators, many turtles and a few impressive cypress trees.

Visited Hillsborough river state park in May 2023. Looking for a location to hold a wedding ceremony for my youngest daughter. It’s a very beautiful park and the staff and volunteers were very helpful. Lots of camping spaces. Lots of walking spaces. Would be a nice way to spend the day and get out of the city. Upside: it’s close to the city.

Great short trails with lots of scenery and an occasional gator. Trails are dotted with roots and uneven surfaces, so be mindful of your footing. We didn't get to hike the 3 mile trail, but look forward to exploring it soon.

We loved our short visit here, would have liked to had more time to explore! Great park! Highly recommend! Camper with our RV and LOVED the campsite, much more spacious than some of the other state parks we’ve been to. So beautiful and more space for the kids to explore right by our site.

Super beautiful parc! Recommend to park the cat at parking area 2 (P2), because that is the most beautiful trail. It is next to the water and you have wonderful view over the Hilborough river". My favorite trail was the "rapids trail". I love how this parc is mainly in the shade, so on a hot day you can still go hiking!

We did the glamping experience through Timberline, it was fantastic. The restrooms are cleaned every morning, and they do it pretty good job of keeping things clean. This is a great experience for somebody just starting out with camping. I took my wife and our two young boys, we had a wonderful memorable time, and I will definitely come back again.

Gorgeous park to visit and walk in the natural Florida scenery. The entry fee was cheap, the park was clean, and the trails were kept! If your looking for a state park that isn’t super busy and filled with life this is it!

Very large national park. Many trails are available, and the campground area is huge. The bathrooms could be cleaner. The pool and restaurants are still closed (supposedly because Covid 😕) You can still go rent a kayak and take to the river, or just walk around the trails.

This was our first of many State Parks we stayed at, well the Park needed a little rehab, it made up in nature, wildlife and beautiful views. We did learn our first lesson by arriving to the campgrounds after dark, you can’t see anything. There were some boards missing from the wooden paths, but the paths were marked very well. The campsites are large and spread apart with some privacy. We will definitely be returning to this park. The Rangers were very helpful and polite. If you look at the pictures I attach you’ll see what a beautiful park that it is. There was also a beautiful man made to table bridge that you could stand on and look at everything around for a long time. The restrooms were immaculate, and the laundry area just right.

Camped for 2 nights. Loved everything about the park. It was mid June 2023 when we went so temperature was in the 90s during the day, 80s at night. Pool was closed but we knew that when booking our trip. Website is up to date with information.

Multiple parks: camping, reservations are made through the site, daily access by car is $6, it is beautiful and very large. There are many sessions for family time, eating, and spending quality time with the children, but unfortunately the bathroom was not clean. I will visit again.

Loved it but was attacked by fifteen thousand fleets of mosquitoes. Big boys with long snouts. Right through your shirt. I felt so sorry for the soldiers who had to be there. Ugh . All I did was pray I would not get malaria. I know a bit dramatic. But hey . Mosquitoes down here are so big they could ride the adult rides in bushgardens. Ugh 😣😫 next time longer shirts and jeans n lots of big spray and repellent packs up .

A very large and lovely park I went to about two weeks prior. It's so massive that it's worth the $6 per car entrance fee; you can bring a lunch and spend a whole day exploring it. I myself only saw about 1/3 of the park. As well as the river, suspension bridges, and beautiful flora, there are painted turtles, alligators you can see, and plenty of other animals. It's the perfect spot for a longer nature walk!

Absolutely love routine hikes here for myself or a day out with the family. Loads of Scenery and Nature to enjoy to include the Class 2 rapids. The bridge is an absolute gem. Just explore!! Enjoy the park, keep it as you found it because it's beautiful 😍

My family and I spent our Easter morning exploring this gorgeous state park! You definitely need mosquito repellent, but that's true for all of Florida. The trails were easy for our elderly dog and my son enjoyed the playground.

Excellent park and the Seminole Trail is a great 3 mile loop. It is mostly shaded and easy to follow. Eager to get back and explore the rest of them.

The park is beautiful year round . So much to do, but Halloween is the best all campers put on A great display the weekend before Halloween is the time to head out if you haven’t yet you don’t know what your missing something for every age group.

Hillsborough River is a breathtaking Park here in Tampa Bay. It's the closest place to get away from the hustle and bustle. It's a great place to relax and view all kinds of wildlife. The river has rock waterfalls up and down the river. Great hiking trails for nature lovers. A really nice playground with shaded picnic area. To get the full experience of the Hillsborough River It's great to either kayak or canoe down the river. There you will see even more wildlife. Perfect place to get away from it all. They're also tent RV camping grounds at $25 a night with showers a market The entrance for the park is $6. And presently the kids pool is closed until 2024

A Gem for Nature Enthusiasts and Campers - Hillsborough River State Park I had the most wonderful camping experience at Hillsborough River State Park and I can't wait to share it with everyone. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the park's pristine beauty and the array of activities it offers. The cleanliness of the park was truly impressive. The well-maintained trails, facilities, and camping areas reflected a commitment to providing visitors with a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It's evident that the staff takes great pride in keeping the park in impeccable condition. The size of the RV sites was just perfect. Spacious and well-spaced, the sites offered privacy and a feeling of being close to nature. It's rare to find sites that strike such a perfect balance between convenience and preserving the natural surroundings. Speaking of activities, Hillsborough River State Park truly shines. There's something for everyone, whether you're an avid hiker, a water enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat. Exploring the trails, kayaking along the river, and even picnicking by the waterfalls - every moment was an adventure. Very serene and beautiful area. It's a collection of four or so trails, and there is a large picnic/playground area near parking lot 3. $6.00 for cars with multiple people, $4.00 for cars with single occupants, $2.00 for cyclists/pedestrians. Definitely worth it.
