I absolutely LOVED this museum. I'm a native Floridian, and I already knew a lot of the information. It was spot on with growing up in the country and the history. They incorporate activities to keep the tour interactive. On our specific tour, we made rope, candles, and butter. The butter was so good, we tried it on saltines. Yummy! We did get to take our rope and candle home with us. I loved the buildings we went in, I do wish we got to check out more buildings. I know each tour has to be timed, and maybe they are different when it's not a school field trip. My only complaint is that I wish I could have seen more and learned more. I'd even be happy to be able to explore other buildings on my own. Maybe offer this as an option for adults only? It's just so awesome, and so are your tour guides. They're very knowledgeable and very approachable. I recommend this museum to EVERYONE, who moves here and visits. If you're a Florida resident, you should have been at some point. 10/10.

This is a gem for the Tampa Bay community! I got to visit it during the Florida Fair 2021 and I enjoyed hanging out there learning about Florida’s history. Many thanks to Carolina who narrated so much history to us!

Really enjoyed the history of these houses built in the late 19th and early 20th century. Beautifully arranged to give you a full experience into the lives of those at the time.

Such a fun spot to visit and walk around through the little shops they have there. It’s a place resembling the 1800s I believe and how the crafted certain tools and items. You can purchase many items and merchandise if you’ll like. There’s plenty of things to look at there and sometimes they have live activities. It’s also free when the state fair is going on but not sure if it’s open all year round. I recommend stopping on by and go back in time.

Beautiful part of early Florida history preserved right here locally. My son & I enjoy getting boiled peanuts here during the fair and taking a break from the rides, crowd, and sun while enjoying the shade and live music. This visit we got more one on one interaction as we visited for a school field trip. We made candles, rope, postcards, and shopped in the general store.

Fabulous time for the young and old. The old watch the young and can relive their sack races, spin the wooden top as a child, go in the General Store and pick out that special something from days gone by!! Had a wonderful time celebrating our Sister Christmas!!πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽΌπŸŽΆπŸŽΆπŸŽ…πŸ€Ά

So far we have visited Cracker Country twice and it gets better every time! First time we made candles and rope. The next time we churned butter, washed clothes and went shopping at the General Store. But the best part was when one of the gentleman showed us how they used to make the 'cracker' sound that was heard miles away!! Don't forget Super Kid Friendly!

My daughter came here on a field trip in which I was chaperoning. I love that the children get to learn history and see it and relive it. I would say the experience was alright. I didn’t like how some of the people there treated the children. Some of the children got screamed at and I don’t think its fair to treat other peoples children that way. Also everything seemed rushed some kids couldn’t properly finish some stations due to moving to the next station. Why pay for something they rush you through it then some kids might not get an opportunity to get a turn.

I was worried that my 5 year old would get bored quickly but he really enjoyed this experience. We dipped candles, made rope, learned a lesson in the school, said a prayer in the church, bought some cool stuff at the general store, played games, and much more. We will be back again!

Cute old style town at the Florida State Fair, a neat area of the place to see. Have some souvenirs in the general store and some small shops, as well as some buildings you can look in.

I read the book A Land Remembered and was told to come visit Cracker Country at the Florida State Fair. It was a great glimpse into the paste for the state of Florida. The people were all dressed in 1800s attire and we're busy doing things from that time period. A good time. πŸ˜€

My wife and I go there every year. We have a tradition of making candles ever since we've been together. We have so many candles. They people always remember us too. It's so sweet. They have a gift shop, museums and entertainment. If you've never been, it's worth the visit.

Love the history, and vendors that share their talents there. My grandson loved watching the train πŸš‚ on the track and then to see the big train wheel parts. He was so excited and soaking it all in. Very educational!

We had a lovely time just walking around learning about history. Plenty of free activities included as well as options to shop. Reminded me of watching little house on the prairie as a child.

Such an amazing place to go with family and friends! People are so nice and very informative. It’s outdoor and the ground was pretty muddy after the rain so make sure you check the weather. Most of the buildings are stroller friendly so you can bring your babies and toddlers there with no problem. I loved the music band; they were cool! There’re also plenty of parking. I will definitely come back!

I belong to the Florida Frontiersmen, so this place is near and dear to my heart. If you love history and handmade items, you must visit! During the State Fair, they close at 6 pm, so plan your day accordingly. You can also purchase some of the awesome things: handmade bowls, brooms, pot scrubbers, jams, soap, and kettle corn. It's a nice relaxing place to visit and think about the early days.

We stumbled across this attraction when we visited the fairgrounds aiming to see a poultry show. This was a great surprise which was cast in a very nostalgic historical setting. We learned history from the various cast of characters who were actually living in the life style reminiscent of old Florida history books. The people were extremely nice, talented at various crafts, generous with their time, and willing to field any questions. The area was very clean, peaceful, and is one of the most relished memory of our trip.

Spectacular living history museum. Focus is on school field trips by reservation, but also frequent public options during the year including Museum Day (FREE), Tall Tales (Oct 21), Christmas in the Country (Dec 9) and of course every day of the Florida State Fair in February. Come see historic 19th century buildings from all over Florida, learn what frontier life was like in the 1800's, and meet authentically-dressed friendly and knowledgeable docents who can enlighten and answer your questions.

Super great place for a field trip. I went to a similar place as a child at Stone Mountain, in Georgia. It definitely brought back memories. The staff were all funny and super friendly. The kiddos had a fabulous time. The kids were able to make a candle for themselves and a rope for the class. It was great for the kiddos to see how things were done a long time ago.

I truly enjoyed both of my visits to Cracker Country especially the beautiful scenery and nice, informative people! I highly recommend to visist this wonderful place, that takes you back to a simpler time, any chance you get.

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting and spending the afternoon with the most amazing and entertaining guy at the whole fair. Huge shout out to Buddy in Cracker Country for the awesome artful work he does. We were amazed by the soup he made from sable palms, Florida spices and a pinch of good humor. He had us laughing till we cried and there wasn’t a word that came out of his mouth that I didn’t learn something. He is full of colorful stories and unique tales from old Florida. A real gem of a guy and I’m grateful he is so generous with his knowledge! Thanks for making our day so special.

A great educational place to visit. It shows life back in the day when there was no electricity, running water and the history on how the expression Florida cracker came to be.

  • 3/5 Deborah M. 3 years ago on Google
I visited yesterday, which was supposed to be a Christmas day. There wasn't much extra decor or really much Christmas information. It's like pulling teeth to get the people at each station to share information about what they are showing you.

I visited Cracker Country as a child on a field trip, maybe around 2008. I have never been happier than I was that day. They showed us how to churn our own butter, and I have not gone a day since then without thinking about the butter I consumed on that field trip. It was the most magnificent, godly experience I have ever had. I am begging you, please continue to churn butter for the school children who visit you. Bless them with the same beautiful butter that I devoured and have never stopped thinking about. I hope you still make fresh butter so that I can one day return and relive the feeling of absolute bliss I experienced that day. I am forever grateful, Cracker Country. 5 starts.

Went on a field trip with one of my daughters classes, it's kind of a local elementary school right of passage to go to Cracker Country. It's very nice, well shaded, actors dressed to period explaining the way of life back then. You can help make rope, churn butter, and make candles. They have a small general store. I really enjoyed myself and can't wait for my next kids field trip.
