A neat step unto the beast with some amazing architecture, park, and other items of the past. Self guided audio tour available on your phone.

Great piece of American history! The museum is a small portion of the building. So go in understanding that this is a very small museum. It is reasonably priced and they do well fitting a lot of historic pieces into a small area. The architecture is beautiful. The video was 14 minutes and really informative, while it is outdated I can understand why they wouldn't update it. As you go through the rooms, there are numbers to hear the guided tour. Each number is usually 40 seconds to 1 minute. They do a great job with the upkeep of everything, and the workers were all very nice.

Visited this beautifully restored hotel museum. The staff are very nice and helpful. There is parking in the front or a garage just up the road if full. You can not bring drinks or bags into the museum, which is understandable. They staff work really hard to maintain museum contents and want to ensure to preserve everything for the next visitor. There's a room where you can sit and watch a video for context at the beginning of your visit. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area!

Such a jaw dropping stunning piece of American 🇺🇸 history. A true inspiration, Henry Plant created this eye catching hotel that makes anyone stop and stare. If you are in Tampa you need to visit the University of Tampa’s campus. First of all off of the canal it looks like a mosque or something with minorities. As you get closer you see the ornate structure and realize you’ve stumbled across a functional piece of art. Go there check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Nice place to visit. Park in the Thomas garage, which is free for visitors. There is construction going on in the rear, and you will have to walk around to the park side to get in. If you have an infant, you can drop your pram off at the entrance.

The Christmas trees at the Henry Plant Museum at the University of Tampa are a festive spectacle! Each tree is adorned with care, bringing a touch of holiday magic to the historic surroundings. The attention to detail in the decorations, coupled with the museum's unique charm, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's a perfect blend of tradition and elegance, making it a must-see during the holiday season. The Henry Plant Museum's Christmas trees are a delightful celebration of the season, capturing the spirit of joy and festivity.

Beautiful hotel with original antique furnishings. I've been to many museums but I have never seen furnishings of such high quality and in such wonderful condition; exquisite! There is also an online tour of the hotel, explaining the history of Tampa, the building of the hotel, and the acquisition of its contents. A must-see for any history or architectural enthusiast! Museum staff was very friendly and helpful. The best part..., reasonably priced!

This is a step back in time- the museum nicely recreates how the hotel must have felt when it was operational. The exhibits focus on early Tampa and how the hotel fit into the city’s history. In addition it focuses on Mr. Plant’s transportation business, which was similar to Henry Flagler‘s. When I visited the temporary exhibit was about Booker T. Washington’s visit and segregation in Tampa at that time. It was well done and interesting. You can do a very thorough walk through the museum in 1.5 hours; 30 minutes can get you through it if you’re in a rush. But don’t be! Also the building is beautiful and in great condition- a must-see for architecture enthusiasts.

Wow such a cool piece of history in downtown Tampa. I was so glad my fiancé found this in his search for things to do. Highly recommend, the audio tour they provide is incredibly informative and traveling from room to room felt like you were going back in time!

It was very interesting learning about the history of Tampa and the hotel. I loved that I could hear the history on my phone when I wanted. In addition, on Sunday there was a delightful actress that gave some history on life at the hotel. The grounds outside were beautiful and the gift shop was nice. Bring your camera to capture the unique architecture and artifacts.

Great museum to learn about Tampa in it's folded age, and Henry Plant. The staff are super friendly and very informative, pleasure to chat with them. Right down to the low wattage lightbulbs, very interesting place!

We were so glad to learn of this historic building and the story behind it. So glad the city is going to get to good use. It’s really a treasure! The self guida tour was great, and the staff were friendly. We also really enjoyed meeting Colonel Teddy Roosevelt :-)

Very interesting to visit, hope they have more rooms preserved in old style. The museum itself with audio tour takes about an hour to two , and probably worth some extra time walk around the campus.

This place is a must see! Had an incredible time venturing through the building. I can't wait to go back at Christmas time to see everything decorated. The staff were super friendly and very informative. The gardens are a beautiful place to take in views of downtown Tampa. Parking was fairly easy as I found a spot right on the property. There is a parking garage around the corner not exactly sure where though. The sign on the property says that the garage parking is free.

Absolutely beautiful building. Museum is nice. It definitely is a step back in time. The staff was extremely kind. Gift shop had a nice assortment of thing to purchase. Only thing that could have made it a little better would be better A/C. Would definitely recommend.

We’re there for Victorian Christmas. It’s stunning!!✨✨The only problem is the poor lighting. It’s hard to get some good pictures since there’s too much sunlight from outside. It’s also I don’t have a good camera😣

A delightful visit back in time. There was even seating throughout and one display was allowing touching to view items. On the campus of university of Tampa. Only one cranky gentleman concerned about my dog. Don't you think she was cleared when I bought my ticket?!

Thoroughly disappointed in my experience at the plant museum. Throughout my entire visit there was not a single plant to be seen. I thought I would have see exotic plants from all over the world, but instead it was just old stuff that nobody cares about. This is false advertising and I am reporting this to the better business bureau.

MUST VISIT! Yes! You must visit Henry B. Plant Museum, especially if you like beautiful architecture and old fashioned furniture. You can see hotel rooms in Victorian style, evening gowns, big vases, busts, tables, paintings, and many other things. Museum store is also a masterpiece. Prices starts from $3. Free admission on Saturdays. Parking is behind the main building.

Loved it! The architecture, the history, the artifacts from around the world! Everything was beautiful. I've lived in the Tampa area my entire life and had no idea the influence that Henry B. Plant had on making our city what it is today. The woman at the front desk was kind and knowledgeable and helped us figure out where to start their audio tour. The only thing that was a little difficult was parking, but they have an attendant that was assisting with it.

This time, I visited for the Victorian Christmas Stroll. What a treat! Feels like stepping back in time, walking through the halls, and seeing the antique Christmas decorations. I adore the reading and writing room, its spine chilling because it is still exactly the same as it was when Henry B. Plant was still around! (plus some extra decorations for Christmas!). A delightful historical experience that is a must-see in Tampa!

This is a really wonderful museum with a great staff and really immersive exhibits. Unlike another reviewer I found it to be totally self toured, but with a nice little audio device to give more info at some places. I would budget about an hour average, but could go more or less depends on how you do museums. It really captures a window into the time. And is easily worth a visit but if you don't make it to the museum itself please at least walk around the hotel and the grounds. This is still today as it was then one of the most unique buildings and all the Tampa.

UT is a a lovely campus, and we totally enjoyed the Henry B. Plant Museum. It was busy with people taking photos in Christmas, wedding, and other occassions. You must visit the museum store where they helped with our purchased, also the museum greeter was so friendly and helpful. Staff make this museum visit a 5 Star. Thank You.

Decided to visit because I loved the architecture of the building and wanted to see more. The campus is rich with history and the self guided tour takes you back in time and let's you learn a lot about the history of Tampa. Would definitely recommend this as a great way to spend a couple of hours. The gift shop also has near trinkets at an affordable price!! The clerk in the gift shop was awesome....he made sure I was taken good care of and totally didn't rush me even tho it was closing time😁

We haven’t yet been inside but the territory is so chill in along with the Tampa University territory. Really nice place to walk around - lots of trees that give you a little bit of shade protecting you from sun. I am impressed with the architecture, will be back there soon!

My visit to this museum was so pleasant! While small, they've really managed to fit a ton inside. Definitely take the time to read all the info provided on the various plaques throughout. There is also a free audio tour available by scanning a qr code at the entrance. It took a little over an hour for me and my dad to see everything, not including the full 14-minute film that's offered. The architecture is absolutely gorgeous inside and out! There are a few parking spots directly in front of the museum and if those are full, there is additional free parking in a garage about 3 blocks away.

Gorgeous building, lots of history to take in, there were antiques and a used book sale on the veranda that I wish I could have checked out. I was on a field trip with school kids, mixed age, and the tour guide did a wonderful job. I would love to go back and take the audio self guided tour. Absolutely gorgeous building. If you can catch a parking space out front, that's great, but if not, you have to park in the garage quite a walk away.

We had a great time! We went at Christmas time and toured the Victorian Christmas Stroll, decorations, viewed the exhibits, and visited the gift shop. My favorite out of all of those though was the actual building it is in, it's gorgeous. It used to be the Tampa Hotel and was built right on the water by Henry Plant. If you like old buildings from historic periods this is a must-see. Lots of history here.

My wife and I went there today. There’s a lot of history. Amazing what they did back then. Enjoyed looking at all the antique furniture in the museum and the building is absolutely amazing. Very architecturally appealing. It’s not a huge museum but it has a lot of things in it and I think it’s worth going

On 3.17.22 I brought my dear friend to the museum after enjoying brunch at the Oxford Exchange, for a short tour of a local favorite place. I was completely taken aback by the docents' attitudes and behavior; I am still aghast. We walked into a couple of rooms, and then were approached by one of the ladies who requested that my friend (in the picture) remove her backpack. This was after 10 minutes of walking through some of the exhibits. My friend was expecting a call and told the docent as much (her phone was in her backpack purse). The docent insisted that she remove her backpack and store it at the lobby desk. Mind you, her backpack was a Vera Bradley purse. Other patrons had similar bags and were not required to put them away; there was NO signage to indicate this rule. As we decided to leave, the other docent was actually calling security over the issue. We asked to speak to the director who offered a quasi-apology by stating this indeed is a requirement and the museum inerrantly did not have signage. However, patrons continued to enter without having to leave their handbags at the door. Clearly, my dear friend was being profiled. She is an American who is entitled to a judgement-free presence. The whole incident was undoubtedly indicative of a culture of suspect and negative perception that inalienable rights were being denied. I am very discouraged that people are carrying these assumptions, and, moreover, using this assumption to inflict a power over another based simply on skin color. There was no other reason for the docent to approach us. We paid. We toured quietly. We followed the rules.

Really cool museum with interesting exhibits about the history of Tampa and art pieces from all over the world. Audio tour was engaging and informative. Parking is free - there’s a few spots right across the museum indicated by some signage. Definitely recommend for anyone interested in art or history.

The building architecture is absolutely amazing. Just for that alone it worth the trip. The museum, well that’s another thing. Don’t waste $11 dollars. It’s not worth it. Best watch a YouTube video and you would have done far better. Nothing to see really inside.

The Victorian Christmas stroll is a special Christmas experience. The museum is beautifully decorated with lots of themed trees and vintage Christmas decor. It's dimly lit and feels cozy and old fashioned. You can learn about the university's history. The gift shop has some unique items. The event is run by volunteers and they do a great job. They offer apple cider and gingersnap cookies on the patio. I would recommend getting there a little early while there is still daylight to walk around the beautiful grounds.

A friend of mine and my husband visited a while back, we had some trouble finding where to actually get into the museum due to lack of signs. We walked into the main entrance rather than the museum entrance and walked around for a while. The fee to get in is a tad steep for what it is but in the end it was nice. The whole thing doesn’t take very long to go around, possibly 30-40 mins if you read all the information provided.

We enjoyed touring the Plant museum from the late 1800s. The building is quite large while the museum is a small part of it. There is a short film you can watch that is interesting. The grounds are worth a stroll as well. I spent a lot of time in Tampa and never knew quite what the build was.

Located in the University of Tampa, the museum was former Plant Hotel. Wonderful to step back in time to learn how Florida was developed by railroad baron Henry Plant in the late 1800's. There is an informative video on the history of the hotel which gives you a nice insight into life in Tampa over 100 years ago. Parking available in front of the Museum and in the university parking garage. They also have a lovely gift shop.

  • 5/5 Kinga D. 4 years ago on Google
Small but very educational and interesting. You can read and learn a lot about the history of Tampa. Don't forget to stroll through the beautiful garden by the river!

  • 5/5 Jan P. 4 years ago on Google
This beautiful museum in a former palatial hotel and as we learned during the self-guided tour - the backdrop in the City of Tampa’s logo. The building’s history is amazing. There are many examples of the lavish furnishings that adorned the hotel in its original days. There is much information about Henry B. Plant and his holdings, as well and specific history of the site and the hotel. The building is mostly used as the University of Tampa’s offices, except for the museum. A beautiful Otis elevator, that is believed to be the oldest operational one in existence, is off the lobby. There is limited free parking on the street closest to the entrance (with a pass from the museum ) or in the parking garage.
