This place leaves me with mixed feelings. I love the history, architecture, roosters, all things Cuban, etc but there's also your typical run down aspects of city life and "characters" sitting around or wandering around which leaves you feeling a little off (females & families with younger children will relate the most). Unfortunately we didn't realize the museum was closed today so we just walked around. Photographers dream though!! So many textures, colors, architecture, etc. Got some great pics! I would come back but I see why people say not to come at night to sight see😬.

We found the perfect venue to provide the most picture perfect wedding of our dreams. It was everything we wanted and more. PLUS the price..well you can't beat it!!! It takes work to bring in all the vendors but if you're a planner or bride that can knock that out easily to save big bucks, this is a perfect choice. Our photos came out amazing!! Their staff was super helpful too.

I went to Ybor city and found this park. It was full of chicken and roosters. I loved it. Reminded me of Key West. The only issue was the homeless population. I honestly did not feel safe hanging around too long. Just took some pictures and left.

Love the chickens! I think they were the best part of my day, lol! All of Ybor was great but this little museum was definitely a highlight and should not be missed.

I did some repairs on the casitas exterior siding and porches, I volunteer at state parks all over Florida on my travels.

Nice calm shady spot to enjoy a lunch picnic and rest. Places to fill water bottles and clean bathrooms. Open to the public.

There was a arts and crafts market in progress. My friends and I meandered for hours, admiring the items available and occasionally buying. Between visiting vendors we enjoyed the marvelous music being played over the sound system and frequently broke into dance - not a boring song all day - yet it was always at a volume that allowed for casual conversation. I couldn't resist taking pictures of the multitude of chickens wandering freely and fearlessly, sometimes enjoying bits of food given by other people. All in all I am definitely looking forward to a return visit with more money in my pocket and maybe a handful of cracked corn for the chickens.

Loved it. Very nice and quaint. Only $4.00 per person. You get to see a 20 minute video of the history of Ybor city and then you can walk around looking at the different displays. If you take the trolley (it's free) you can get down on stop #1 and the museum is across the plaza/park. Definitely recommend.

Walking around before lunch with my family and happened upon a Puerto Rican Street Festival. Instantly regretted having lunch plans already, the food looked and smelled amazing! Lots of street art, murals, and chickens. Very cool area.

Excellent historical info and artifacts relevant to FL history. The guided tour of the restored Casitas was excellent and worth the time. If you come on Saturday there is a community market across the street.

A very cute and cozy museum. You get the local small town feel with the great history of the city of Ybor and Tampa. A great example of early cultural acceptance and community coming together.

(Translated by Google) Was very interesting. A railway line, tobacco nearby, Spanish manufacturers and high wages of workers in New York create a city. The invention of a machine to roll cigars makes the city disappear again. (Original) War sehr interessant.

Our visit to Ybor City: A Gem in Tampa's Cultural Tapestry Nestled northeast of downtown Tampa lies the captivating Ybor City Historic District, a testament to Tampa's rich cultural heritage and industrial prowess. Our recent visit to the Ybor City Museum State Park left us enthralled and eager to share our experience with fellow travelers. Upon arrival, we were pleased to find ample city parking conveniently scattered throughout the area, facilitating stress-free exploration. The pay-by-kiosk system streamlined our parking experience, allowing us to focus on immersing ourselves in the district's allure. The park itself may be modest in size, but it is teeming with historical significance. Wander through its hallowed grounds, and you'll encounter a plethora of meticulously preserved buildings and architectural marvels, each whispering tales of a bygone era. The diverse array of structures reflects the fusion of cultures that once thrived here, from European influences to the indelible mark of Cuban immigrants. One cannot mention Ybor City without paying homage to its most colorful residents: the free-roaming chickens. These charismatic creatures, adorned in vibrant hues and even boasting metallic plumage, add an enchanting charm to the district's streets. Watching them strut about is an experience in itself, a delightful reminder of the area's idiosyncratic character. As we strolled through the historic streets, we found ourselves spoiled for choice with dining establishments and bars catering to every palate. From traditional Cuban fare to eclectic fusion cuisine, and everything in between Ybor City offers a culinary journey like no other. And of course, no visit would be complete without indulging in the area's famed cigars. Witnessing a skilled artisan craft cigars firsthand is a testament to Ybor City's enduring legacy as the "Cigar Capital of the World." For those eager to explore beyond the park's confines, the city trolley presents a convenient and complimentary mode of transportation. Embark on a journey through time as you traverse the downtown area, all while relishing the tales of Tampa's immigrant communities that shaped Ybor City's narrative. With each step, each snapshot captured, we couldn't help but marvel at the tapestry of history woven into the fabric of Ybor City. From its humble beginnings as a cigar-making mecca to its status as a National Historic Landmark, this district stands as a testament to the resilience and cultural diversity that define Tampa's identity. In conclusion, our visit to Ybor City was nothing short of enchanting, leaving us with cherished memories and a newfound appreciation for Tampa's storied past. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a culinary connoisseur, or simply seeking an unforgettable adventure, Ybor City beckons with open arms. Don't hesitate to embark on your own journey of discovery – you won't be disappointed. Thomas Corrao #straycompassphotography #straycompasstravels

Such a lovely place. I live for the vintage feel of this area!!!! They had a little fair going on and everyone was absolutely lovely!!!

We had the best time dancing, drinking and meeting new people. Shout out to Leo! This was the first "Viva! Ybor comes alive" but not our last. I am ready to join the society. The band was great! The bar staff was awesome. We danced all evening. The silent auction, the Paver raffle, the wine draws were all excellent. There were things that could be improved. The VIP bathrooms were not marked (I had no idea where they were but I found a bathroom); the vendors were not set up on time; (VIP gained access 1 hour prior to the public; Three of the vendors served the same entrees (Cuban sandwiches). These are not complaints. We loved it and will be back next year. We discovered this event while at Tie the Knot Ybor, and fell in love with the atmosphere.

This is an amazing place to learn about the history of Ybor. It was a great experience. Our ranger tour guide was amazing and had such a wealth of knowledge to share. I loved getting to visit a real casita. Amazing. I highly recommend.

Visited the Ybor City Museum. On this day it was free for families in the park area but it appears to enter the building is $4. It was closed so I am unsure. Definitely a hidden gem that was formerly a bakery in the 1900's.

Great street market. We bought banana bread (yummy), cupcakes, crystal bracelet. Great products, good prices!! Nice vendors too. We loved the city protected free range chickens and roosters (add to the ambiance).

Great museum, fun to see the roosters, great place to walk through, and shop at the farmers market in the park or from street vendors like the Italian Club.

This is a small museum so won't take over an hour. Occasionally, a ranger takes folks on a tour of the garden and the restored casitas (small houses) where cigar workers lived, right on the Museum property.. well worth the 15 minutes. Entry fee is $4. There is a nice park across the street and you can catch the streetcar outside the park.

Lovely small museum at well preserved historic site. The displays were informative and in great condition. The shotgun Sears Roebuck kit house was well restored. The park ranger was well-informed and led an excellent tour of a typical cigar workers’ house. Volunteers shared the history of Ybor City’s signature Cuban sandwich.

Beautiful plaza in the center of Ybor city. The roosters! Apparently, the roosters are protected by the city.

If you want the history of the town, I highly recommend this museum. The staff was friendly and informative. They answered all our questions and we even got to do a little scavenger hunt with my 10 year old! Her favorite part is the chickens loose in town. Very cheap and affordable for a couple hours of fun.

2.5 stars really. Honestly, I feel like I paid $4 to watch a movie I didn't know I was going to watch. Before you "tour" the items they have displayed, they play a historical video for you. There were some interesting points in the video, but a lot of it was info I could've Googled or read on Wiki. I could've even watched a video like that on Youtube. After the video, looking at the display items was basically pointless, except for the cigar factory display. There was also a lot of repetitive info, that had been said in the video and then repeated on several display boards.

I learned a lot! This museum had so much information. So much to see and the Park Ranger Emily was very helpful! If you are a history buff, you need to put this on your list.

Fun experience. Went to the street market. Loss of vendors, all friendly. Had some wonder cookies and beef jerky. Was fun to see the chickens roaming around. Even saw a hen with her chicks.

  • 3/5 Rainy H. 11 months ago on Google
Unfortunately didn't get to visit the museum, however loved seeing all the chickens free roaming and enjoying themselves. But, as a female traveler the characters that are around the park made me feel very unsafe. A man had forced my partner and I up to the market up the street and we luckily (thanks to the store owner and several others) we were able to leave safe and sound. Leaving this here specifically to help those who may be venturing alone or as a tourist.

I wish I could have checked out the actual museum but it was closed the one day of the week that I went. The park itself was very pretty in well maintained. It's really funny to see the roosters running around, make sure you learn the history of why they are!

  • 5/5 alison s. 1 year ago on Google
Very educational. The lady giving tickets and info was so so kind and just the sweetest lady. The park employee cleaning the gardens was helpful and lovey and the museum was small but informative and extensive for its size. I would recommend going here before your Ybor exploration to learn how and why the area came to be. At $4/adult (or if you have a state park pass it’s included in that price) it’s well worth the stop.

I always do enjoy visiting this park when Im in Ybor City or have family visiting. It is usually very quiet and there are wild chickens and roosters flocking around adding a farm vibe to the big city. I definitely recommend stopping by here, they also have the 9/11 memorial within a close walk

"Closed due to Covid" Very disappointing to find that Google had not been updated with the correct hours. Drove all the way out here to find that this museum is temporarily closed and it looks like no one is keeping up with the gardens either. Looks like a jungle in there. On top of that, there was a huge farmer's market going on across the street at Centennial Park packed with people...

  • 5/5 L O. 5 years ago on Google
Small museum with very interesting displays and information on the history of Ybor City, including a nicely done 20 minute video. Note that tour of the cigar worker's casita are only offered on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., even though the museum itself is open until 5 p.m. We arrived at 3:15 and were sorry to have missed that (as were the several people who arrived after us).
