This is a smaller garden but a very Zen place. I enjoyed my time here. It doesn't take very long to walk around the entire garden. I recommend bringing water. I love the tropical feel and seeing the butterflies. The staff were very warm and friendly. I appreciate that. I love the flamingos I do wish they had a bigger area for them. As well as the birds I wish there was a huge atrium for them to fly around in. However the animals were well taken care of and looked healthy. They do have an option to get married here for those who are looking. Great place to take photos. It isn't very expensive and parking is free which is always a bonus. They have food for the koi fish for about $2 which isn't too bad. Great place for families and those who are solo looking for something to do. I do like the gift shop they have a mixture of various garden eclectic items.

I loved it here! There is a wide variety of plants from all over the world. Madagascar palms, bamboos, large traveler palms and they even have Chilean flamingos! My favorite was the Azaleas, they are in full bloom at the moment. I will come back in the spring to see the flowers bloom. The paths are paved and the scene is beautiful for pictures so do wear a cute outfit and cute shoes. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk through but take your time there is so much to see and don’t forget to look up! Plenty of benches and sitting areas. Very shaded walk and clean paths. There is a gift shop with plenty of items! Bring water, I don’t remember seeing a water fountain or snacks. Also, I got 2 adult passes on Groupon for the price of one adult gate pass. View pictures, but it’s 100x better in person. You’ll love it.

It has been on my places to visit and finally made it! It was busy on a Saturday morning and since it was cold, we did not get to see the birds! There is plenty of parking and people go in and out constantly, so you will find a spot. We did not have to wait long to get our tickets and the entrance is right next to the check in. It is a small garden with plenty of plants, fountains, small history section, flamingos, birds (during cold weather they are not on display) and a small gift shop. They are sunken because you go from the street level down to the gardens. If I remember correctly, this was a sinkhole but don't take my word for it. A good visit to get a nature fix away from the city or the beach.

We visited during a recent family trip to St.Pete’s beaches. I had seen this listed as one of the things to do while in the area. I enjoyed walking through the beautifully laid out grounds and seeing all the magnificent plants and trees. The size of some of the trees is incredible. I am an amateur gardener and houseplant lover but given that I live in NY we aren’t able to grow most of these varieties, so this was really interesting to me. There is also a great history here and learning opportunities if you’re interested. My husband and 6 year old son got bored somewhat quickly so there’s that. But I could have spent much more time there. It is truly very tranquil and zen being surrounded by all that plant life. It is a little small but reasonably priced. My family did all love the flamingos and koi pond and waterfalls. We were a little disappointed that the birds were not available at the time that we went due to caution over the bird flu outbreak, but I totally understand that health is priority. Hopefully we will get to visit another time. It was April so not very buggy yet as some other reviews had mentioned. A very nice experience overall and would love to visit again if in the area.

Took my mother here for her birthday and she loved it. It was a perfect day for being outside. Most of the park is in the shade which is very nice in Florida. Tons of butterflies, plants, and flowers. The place has been around forever but visiting it yearly is always nice because they do change things up and of course plants are different throughout the year. It’s a beautiful place just outside of buddy St Petersburg where you can forget about everything.

If you want to spend the day walking through a lush garden with lots of different flora, this is it. There was plenty of shade in most areas, but it was still warm. They had well kept clearings where you can enjoy a picnic (which I did). They also have flamingos and I really enjoyed watching them. They also have a cute gift shop! We got our tickets through Groupon for a cheaper price, so highly recommend to take advantage of the deal when it's up.

If you are anywhere near this beautiful garden, It is worth every bit of your effort to visit it. There are amazing specimens from all over the world. They have taken a great amount of time to make sure that these beautiful plants have survived over 100 years. Great gift shop, as well. I highly recommend this lovely garden and the history that it brings to St Pete.

A nice place to walk around a view some beautiful gardens and plants. Very well maintained and benches with views to rest and sit. Took me around an hour to see the whole place at a leisurely pace. There are bathrooms and a gift shop at the entrance. I liked that there was a water filling station there too.

We had so much fun at Sunken Gardens! My husband and I went on a day where it had just rained and it was sunny, but not hot outside. The plants here are gorgeous, and the venue is well arranged. We really enjoyed going through the winding paths and identifying plants we were familiar with and being amazed by new ones we had never seen. Some of the trees here are enormous. We were especially impressed by the rainbow eucalyptus tree. It is out of a storybook. And by the way, there are real flamingos here! We also really enjoyed the gift shop. It is great place to find gifts for anyone who loves plants. I would love to come here again next time we are in St. Petersburg. Highly recommend making this part of your visit to the area. Don’t miss it!!

Everything about this place is incredible. The plants are all very well taken care of, and the inside staff are nothing but helpful. The various and winding paths always led to something interesting. There are plenty of sights and picture opportunities. If you're anywhere close to the area, I highly recommend a stop inside! It took us about an hour and a half to walk and gawk the whole trail.

found a great deal for tickets on groupon, and my partner and i started our early birthday festivities with the Sunken Gardens right at opening time on a weekday. it was amazing! you get a paper map so you can keep track of the trail and what you can see. we spent maybe an hour and a half here to see everything, and it did not disappoint. they have a large wedding venue area, as well as an amphitheater section for shows. the history here is spectacular and you can learn all about it at their historical center located when you first enter the gardens. the gift shop was big, filled with all sorts of trinkets, gifts, decorations, apparel, etc. reasonably priced for a gift shop. i highly recommend the Sunken Gardens to anyone visiting or living in st pete!

Lots of interesting plants, in particular the cacti. Very well maintained. Many did not have markers identifying the specimen though. It was very crowded and I did have to drive around the parking lot several times to wait for an open space, they share a parking lot with a busy restaurant. Overall I didn't care for the layout it's like a maze and jumbled. Other botanical gardens I have been to have a nice flow and layout to them.

My family and I wanted to check out this place - my daughter loves nature. We were looking to do something low-key and relaxing. The Sunken Garden was tranquil and peaceful and just the right place we needed. It literally is an oasis in the middle of the concrete desert. Even though it was drizzling a little, the weather made it feel even immersive. Sure, one could take a brisk walk through the garden in maybe under an hour, but to really enjoy the experience, one needs to take their time, explore, take pictures, and just chill.

This place has been a great place to visit in St Pete for almost 100 years. The gardens are beautiful, and has waterfalls, coy fish, flamingos and parrots. They sell food so you can feed the coy fish but I was disappointed they don't tell you that when you get your ticket. Overall a thumbs up.

Absolutely gorgeous place to visit. So many different plants to see. Gorgeous landscapes, bridges, flamingos and fish. Very well taken care of. Bonus - a fun gift shop that offers many different souvenirs! Only costs $15 to get in and it is well worth the money.

A beautiful garden in the city is worth stopping by for a leisurely stroll. There are many water features, flamingos, macaws, lush greenery and bright flowers. There is plenty of green space, benches throughout garden for a picnic, perfect for letting children explore freely.

Visited with the family. We all enjoyed our relaxing walk through the gardens. Kids really liked seeing the flamingos, turtles & laughing kookaburra. My wife is an avid gardener, she thoroughly enjoyed her time walking around and getting inspiration from the garden.

Beautiful with lots of water features. Well maintained. Lots of varieties of flora with description plaques. Landscaped from a sinkhole back in the early 1900's. This is a gem in St Pete. I especially enjoyed the hundred years old royal Palms and live oaks, the koi and loads of blooming plants with sweet scents in the air. Well worth the admission price of $15

Whimsical..indescribable..simply zen..oh my goodness 🥰🫶🏽💜 I could've stayed here all DAY!! So relaxing..IF I had to give a downside..I'd hope that the maps were laid out a bit better to match up with the layout..I mean it's SORTA close..but if you're not careful, you'll either miss something,or go in circles..but honestly its so beautiful to where you may not care too much..small kids may get a bit antsy with getting lost though..but not too bad. There's a beautiful layout of a gift shop as well🥳👏🏼

Taking time off from work for a little "staycation" this week for some decompression time. There;s is no better place to find some Zen time than this place. Wow. Peaceful and educational at the same time. We arrived just before 11am and there was no wait, no crowds. I could see where this would be pretty busy on a weekend; and that could diminish the peacefulness slightly. Walkways are decently marked and there are plenty of spots to just sit and take in the beauty. Grounds are very well maintained and the staff was very friendly. This is a place that one cold easily visit often, just to unwind and getaway from the hustle of the world.

Beautiful View of Nature in Florida The Sunken Gardens in St. Pete provides a glimpse into the beauty Florida has to offer. There is a wide variety of trees and plants. Inside the park are area to sit and enjoy nature, along with picnic spots. The grounds and store are clean, and the staff nice and friendly. There is plenty of parking. Most of the park is shaded due to the tall trees.

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful attractions I have ever experienced in the state! The gardens are beautifully kept, and well maintained. Was not expecting there to be so many animal exhibits, but was stunned at how healthy and well cared for all seemed. I have never seen such beautifully colored flamingos in my life! Koi were very large and had plenty of space to move and grow. Turtles were active. Green Macaw parrot was very beautiful and my young son was very entertained talking to her. We very much appreciated the wide variety of plants - everything from local palms, to Rainbow Eucalyptus - which I had no idea existed and was an incredible sight! I plan to bring my family here as often as we can! Thank you for keeping and sharing such a treasure!

What a tranquil and simply beautiful spot at the heart of St. Pete! Walking through the gates transports you to a tropical world. You can see thousands of blooming flowers (especially Azaleas!), a colony of flamingos, and hundreds of species of flora from around the world. Be sure to check out the hidden path that lets you view the flamingo exhibit from a raised viewpoint. Highly recommend!

Beautiful place to visit in Downtown St. Pete! It’s a great idea if you are taking a day off from the beach. We stayed around 3 hours and would stayed longer if the weather had been cooler. If it’s a hot day, drink lots of water and ready to sweat!

Such a nice garden! A decent size for a nice hour walk. Again, spent an hour in here taking tons of photos and looking at various plants from different countries and places around the world. Worth the admission price!! Great place to also go on a date. Lots of shady and seating areas for people to take a break from the heat. Highly recommend for those folks whose get easily bug bites to spray down with some bug spray first before entering. There are also parrots, flamingos, and turtles to see to it keeps the walk interesting! Every mini path you take within the garden it's a different sight which keeps the walk interesting. Check Groupon for a very good deal! I paid $16 for two adult tickets and it was very worth it! Lots of parking as well. The only negative part of the walk was at one of the pond area had developed this smelly scent that smelled like old water. Otherwise, the maintenance aspect is very nice! Definitely going to bring more friends and family here when they come and visit St. Petersburg.

Sunken gardens was really beautiful. Many opportunities for gorgeous pictures. Flamingos are my favorite and I loved seeing them so happy in their habitat. I recommend you bring LOTS of mosquito repellent! FYI- you can bring outside drinks in. Such a beautiful and well preserved park.

This is the best garden I've visited so far. The flowers, Koi ponds, exotic birds, beautiful flamingos, waterfall, Palm Plaza, oak Pavillion, Low pond, Photo ring, wedding lawn, coconut and Palm grove, butterfly garden and so much more. We really had fun during our visit here not too hot inside the garden because there are huge trees so, we just walked under the shades. It actually feels cool and also it was not overcrowded so we feel more relax to walk around, had a peaceful walk just listening to the birds and take our time to check everything out and pause to pose for cute photos and videos. It was truly a beautiful botanical experienced. Plus they have picnic tables so if you wish to bring your own food and enjoy the picnic under the big trees and green beautiful scenery you can also do that. They also have a lot of cute stuff that you can buy at their gift shop. The parking lot is big so, it was not difficult to find spot for us right at the entrance. The best part about this beautiful place is they also have a wedding lawn. This is going to be a perfect place for a wedding. The entrance fee is $15.00 which is WORTH IT. I love to go back here and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. DEFINITELY WORTH OUR 1 HOUR DRIVE JUST TO BE HERE.

Plant lover dream! We walked through this beautiful garden and enjoyed all the gorgeous plants and wildlife! If you love houseplants, it’s really amazing to see these plants in the wild, growing huge! My kids loved seeing the “retirement parrots” and all the little geckos. $6/kids, for adults, we got a Groupon! Nice gift shop too, with lots of plant-lovers gifts!

So glad they saved this attraction from development...it's quiet and lovely. Path is well maintained but there are a few old exhibits that are no longer used; if they are not going to use them, they should remove them as it tends to make a visitor feel disappointed. The garden doesn't take long but very nice.

Surprisingly very fun lmao. The flamingos were hilarious, #44 or Lindsey Marie was absolutely obsessed with the sprinkler. Also, did not know Magnolia trees could grow that big. Also you can buy food for the koi fish when buying tickets at the entrance. Please be aware that there IS a sign saying to not touch random plants bc there ARE some poisonous plants in their collection. Just keep that in mind. Saw a lot of people touching questions flowers lol.

What an absolute gem! From the cute retro sign out front, to the incredible plant life inside the garden, it was a lovely experience. We got tickets on Groupon and it was such an easy experience. We went on a Saturday, and it definitely gets busier after about 2 pm. Coming back for sure!

  • 5/5 Ashlea W. 2 years ago on Google
Tickets are relatively cheap, however check Groupon for deals! Sunken Gardens is a MUST SEE if you’re visiting St. Pete! Take some time to recharge and walk through these beautiful gardens hidden in plain sight smack dab in the middle of a busy city. Be sure you bring your camera, because you will not want to miss the endless photo opportunities!

Amazing attraction in St. Petersburg. Way too much information to post online. Children's museum located immediately next door. Made by a local plumber three generations ago, this place is a beautiful marvel, housing some of the areas oldest trees and plant life. A few birds, fish and turtles on site make it palatable for smaller children. Small, indoor, AC'd history edifice in the middle of the whole thing to help you cool off and learn something. Wedding lawn. Gift shop at the end.

Beautiful botanical gardens with birds, flamingos and koi fish. Nicely laid out and a pleasure to walk around. We found out if permitting allows more animals may be coming to stay. That would be a wonderful addition!

This is a great place to see nature and it also has some history to it. It's nice the city bought this place to keep it open. They have all sorts of trees plants and flowers. They also have flamingos and different bird species as well.

  • 5/5 Julie P. 5 months ago on Google
I so enjoyed these gardens and even with that feeling, I was surprised that we stayed for two and a half hours and it felt like the blink of an eye! If I was a local I expect this is somewhere I would go maybe once a month to see how everything changes with the seasons and the flower bloomings. The structure of this place just allows you to feel like it goes on and on because there are so many twists and turns in the paths and you come around a corner and you might think you saw before but you're seeing it from a different angle and so you see completely different things. Plus you're going up and down because it's a sunken garden. Lots of water features and so many different species. Come here for the foliar eye candy, as well as a lovely relaxed and inspiring day. Incredibly friendly staff. The crew working with the rescue macaws, Mindy the cockatoo and other parrots were happy to share information and clearly loved what they did. Occasionally a staff member would pass by us and ask us if we were enjoying ourselves and that was so friendly! The little historical cabin was also really interesting with loads of pictures home video audio recordings and a background of the generations of care that went into the creation of these gardens as well as keeping them alive over decades, and available to the public! Extra bonus, we were lucky enough to go on a cooler day so felt as good at the end as we did at the beginning.

Just a lovely garden spot right in St Pete! They even have flamingos! I was impressed with how cool it stayed even in the drenching heat! Be sure to have somewhat of a plan as you walk through…there’s a turn or two that could cause some disorientation as you make your way through the path.

This garden is absolutely amazing!! Extremely well maintained and HUGE. You could spend hours walking around, taking photos or just looking at all of the beautiful palm trees, flowers, fountains, waterfalls, they even have flamingos and turtles. Lots of shady places to sit and rest too. My friend Anna took me (I am from out of state) and I was blown away by it. I hope to go back again for my next trip. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who clearly work hard on such a unique attraction.
