My
Mom
was
sent
to
Brandon
Hospital
emergency
via
EMS
due
to
passing
out
at
Florida
Cancer
Specialist.
She
has
stage
4
kidney
failure
and
stage
4
cancer.
FCS
had
started
giving
her
fluids
before
EMS
arrived.
She
arrived
at
hospital
emergency
around
3:40.
After
parking,
I
found
her
alone
in
a
freezing
cold
room
in
emergency
area
with
a
two
thin
blankets
(she
was
shivering)
with
the
TV
blaring
(which
she
hates)
and
the
call
button
was
hanging
on
the
back
wall
behind
her
bed
where
she
could
not
reach
it.
I
put
it
on
her
lap
and
showed
her
the
call
button.
They
ran
bloodwork,
EKG,
chest
xray.
We
waited
for
nearly
2
hours
and
she
was
very
thirsty
and
dehydrated
but
was
not
allowed
anything
to
drink
or
eat
until
test
results
came
back.
That
is
fair
enough
as
procedure
in
case
emergency
surgery
is
required.
A
nurse
told
us
that
due
to
Mom
being
a
cancer
patient
that
her
door
would
be
kept
closed
and
all
medical
professionals
entering
her
room
would
wear
a
mask.
There
was
also
a
woman
in
the
room
just
across
the
hall
cady
corner
from
Mom
who
sounded
as
if
she
were
coughing
up
a
lung
the
entire
time
she
was
there.
However,
several
people
came
and
went
from
Mom’s
room
who
had
been
in
the
coughing
woman’s
room
and
did
not
have
their
masks
on
while
in
Mom’s
room.
Mom
was
disconnected
from
the
monitor
so
she
could
go
to
the
bathroom,
and
no
one
had
come
back
to
connect
her
so
the
monitor
alarms
were
beeping
incessantly
loud
for
a
long
time
when
the
doctor
came
in.
She
asked
him
to
fix
it
because
she
could
not
hear
him
over
the
alarm.
He
simply
pushed
the
button
to
turn
the
alarm
off
without
reconnecting
the
monitor
to
her
and
took
his
mask
down.
He
then
told
us
her
calcium
and
electrolytes
were
very
low
and
recommended
to
admit
her
to
be
treated
with
electrolytes,
calcium,
and
monitor
her
otherwise
she
would
be
at
risk
of
coronary
event
and
death.
Once
they
said
they
would
admit
her,
I
went
to
get
a
snack
and
dr.
pepper
for
her
which
required
me
to
walk
to
the
opposite
side
of
the
hospital
because
the
vending
machines
near
emergency
were
mostly
empty
and
their
cafeteria
was
closed
for
repairs
or
something.
After
giving
her
a
snack,
I
went
home
around
7:40
pm
to
gather
a
few
things
she
needed
for
the
night.
I
returned
at
8:45
just
to
find
she
was
still
alone
in
that
same
emergency
room,
door
wide
open,
had
just
been
reconnected
to
monitors
less
than
an
hour
before,
had
been
offered
nothing
to
eat
or
drink,
had
not
been
treated
at
all
(no
fluids,
electrolytes,
calcium
that
we
had
been
told
is
critical
otherwise
she
could
die).
FIVE
hours
there
and
no
such
teatments
nor
fluids
given???
REALLY???
We
felt
she
would
be
more
likely
to
die
lying
in
that
freezing
cold
room
with
the
door
wide
open,
coughing
woman
right
across
the
hall
with
nurses/doctors
going
in
and
out
without
mask
in
place,
with
no
treatment
being
given
to
her
at
all,
no
fluids,
food,
drink,
nothing…than
if
I
bring
her
to
the
comforts
of
home,
give
her
some
dinner,
electrolyte
drinks,
and
a
warm
bed
to
sleep
in.
The
doctor
stood
over
her
with
no
mask
reminding
her
of
her
risk
of
death
if
she
leaves
and
does
not
get
treatment
but
what
the
heck…I
said…YOU
HAVEN’T
BEEN
TREATING
HER
ANYWAY.
So
I
took
her
home!
Go
anywhere
but
here!!
