I don't care for this place at all. We went here once 7 years ago after we moved to the area, our once sweet and calm dog was all the sudden aggressive and trying to bite the vet according to them (we were asked to wait out of the room) Once we came in they were being very forceful to our dog and I am sure they scared the hell out of him. We were told he needs sedatives before he would be allowed back. This dog never had aggression a day in his life. We lost that dog shortly after this (unrelated) Fast forward to today, we have a new puppy and just needed a rabbis shot and his nails trimmed. This new dog is so kind and calm (labradoodle) and only a few months old, again they take the dog back without us and minutes later you could hear him crying and then they come out saying he became aggressive with them. When our dog came out you could tell he was scared of them and hiding behind us This seemed all too familiar, how does a calm puppy that lets kids hang all over him become aggressive so quickly? The last time we did his shots and nails at petsmart he just sat there wagging his tail, I know they were too rough with him when we heard him crying out. I don't know why we went back there but it won't happen again, these people are clearly not animal lovers. Outside of the overly rough treatment of animals I don't think the staff\reception are very easy to deal with either. They are also horrible on trying to up sell. Those sedatives they say we needed for the return trips.. over $100. They also will try and sell tons of services and extra meds the dog doesn't need. Look elsewhere people, so many better options in the area at the same prices.

If I could give this place Zero Stars I would. I had to put my beloved dog Bogey down yesterday due to this Vet's negligence and extreme irresponsibility as far as I am concerned. I am heartbroken and very angry as to the reason my Bogey died. I actually called their office yesterday morning and tried to get an appointment because my dog was very sick. I ended up taking him to Blue Pearl and then we were transferred to Metropolitan where he was eventually put to sleep an hour later. We are devastated with his loss. Bogey was diagnosed with Leptospirosis. It is a bacterial infection that spreads through the bloodstream. Dogs can get leptospirosis from puddles or bodies of water that carry urine from infected wildlife. Both Blue Pearl and Metro Doctors asked if Bogy had received the Lepto vaccine. I had never heard of it. I am furiously angry to find out now that there was a vaccine that could have prevented Bogey's death. Neither Dr. John nor any other doctor/staff at this office never, ever informed me about this vaccine. Even worse, Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease, which means it can spread from animals to people. So now I have to worry about not only my other pets but me and my family as well. Please heed this warning and get your pets vaccinated for this infectious disease. We lost a beloved family member, my granddaughter lost her protector and my husband lost his best buddy. I have no confidence with Dr. John's Pet Clinic in their ability to administer the best care for animals.

I have been taking my dog here for 5 years and while I have always had good things to say in the past, I’ve unfortunately noticed a huge shift for the worse in the past year and I will now be taking my dog elsewhere. My dog has never had any serious medical issue, just routine visits and nail trims. Several months ago my dog was sick (vomiting, cough, diarrhea) and when I called and explained her symptoms, I was told the first available appointment was in 3 weeks...at which point she obviously wouldn’t be sick by then, so that wasn’t helpful in the slightest. And when I asked if there was any medicine they could give me, they said she must be seen to prescribe medicine. So again, completely unhelpful. Also, my boyfriend’s dog had the same symptoms at the time and his vet immediately prescribed medicine for him to pick up that day, no appointment necessary. I’ve always had my dog’s nails trimmed here, as she has to be medicated and hates nail trims, and when I called recently, I was told they “no longer do nail trims unless the appointment is booked with an office visit for an additional reason”. I was shocked. What vet suddenly just doesn’t do nail trims? Sounds to me like they just want to make more money, which is extremely disappointing. All that to say, there has been a huge shift in the way they operate over the past year and they will not work with you to get you in for an appointment. Sadly, we will be leaving.

I cannot recommend this place enough. I have taken every single dog of mine here, over a span of 16 years. They are trustworthy and they genuinely care about you and your fur babies. Everyone on their staff are so friendly, the techs and receptionist are pleasant to speak to. The tech, Jordyn, is so beyond helpful and got me in as soon as possible for my recent new addition. Thank you so much for all that you do!

I recently moved to Louisville from out of state and was already a very nervous pet mom as my pup has been to the same amazing vet ever since she was born. I went into to Dr. John's to get my pup a due vaccination as well as a routine wellness exam. I sat in the waiting area for almost an hour (after having this appointment set for about 3 weeks) and watched as the chaos unfolded. While the doctor did pop in and seemed very pleasant, the staff was overwhelmed and under enthusiastic. Anyway, after waiting for almost an hour I was brought into a room where I was told (as a brand new patient mind you) that my pup could receive the vaccination as planned but the doctor would not have time to examine her. I honestly fully regret allowing them to even touch my little one since they did not know anything about her medical history, but I did permit them to give her the vaccination. I was then rushed out, charged, and not given so much as an apology. The lady at the front desk even remarked to the guy that gave the vaccination that my pup was a new patient and the vaccination should not have been done without a exam. To which his reply was, "we're just too busy". Although this conversation was said right in front of me, nothing was said directly to me. To be fair, based on other reviews (and my brief encounters with him) I'm sure Dr. John is great. However you only get a first impression once and unfortunately mine was not a good one. I will not be returning.

This is the best veterinarian office in the city. Not only are their prices affordable, they are definitely "animal people." We've taken our animals here for over 20 years. The doctors and staff have so much love, compassion and thoughtfulness for the patients they care for. I'm forever grateful for the love and respect they've shown for my family, both animals and human. Thank you all so much for what you do. I'd highly recommend this office to anyone.

We moved to Dr. John's when Dr. Brockman left East Louisville for Dr. John's (we followed him). Sadly, Dr. Brockman passed away two years ago. We went to a new vet (and could not be happier at our new vet). But, I booked an appointment at Dr. John's to get a second estimate on teeth cleaning last week - just to compare prices - and I was surprised how run down and dirty the exam room was. Plus Dr. John came in and had to SIT while he examined my dog's teeth (how does he perform surgery?) and overall, it just did not feel right. You know when you get that feeling that something is wrong...that is what it felt like. It's not the same place it used to be, sadly.

The BEST vet in Louisville - Hands down. We've taken our two dogs here for about 4 years, and they've always taken amazing care of them. We have a white German Shepherd who is terrified of strangers, and they're so kind and gentle with her. They're extremely responsive, very affordable, and they never hesitate to answer any questions we may have. They operate out of Feeders Supply locations throughout the week in addition to their clinic hours and it's amazing - I think it provides many people with convenient access to a vet who may have otherwise not gone. The receptionist desk, assistants, and the Drs themselves all absolutely bust their butt for customers, and it really, really shows. I've never seen service better than what they provide!

Dr John’s has taken care of my dogs for years and are so helpful every time I call . Dr Scott was thorough with Miranda, the vet, tech so supportive. I love the way they examine the pet while you’re in the room & don’t take the pet away to be examined. Unnecessary tests are not performed & recommendations are always explained. Such friendly environment to humans & animals!!

They are honestly the best vet in town. Super friendly and easy to work with. I have to update this review. I wish I could give even more stars. The vets here go above and beyond, and are just ask concerned about our fur babies as we are.

I have a pit mix that has severe anxiety about nail trims and I have tried to find MANY different ways/professionals that could help and failed. Dr Johns staff was incredibly calming to me and my pup when we first had an appointment and got him in and out without any hassle! The staff clearly care a lot, the quality of care is extremely high and the cost is a lot lower than anywhere else in Louisville. Highly recommend!

Absolutely the best place to take your pets for any and everything! Extremely nice people from the receptionists to Dr. John himself. Would highly recommend.

The place is the best place, and only place, you should take your fur babies! The front desk staff is phenomenal. They are attentive, professional, knowledgeable and really take the time to get to know your animal. If I’ve ever had a question, they have an answer. If I needed a refill and sent a text/message, they’ve sent a response within minutes. Joel, Hunter, and Justin are my heroes! They were able to distract my 156 lb. 1 1/2 year old English Mastiff and get his shots taken care of and his nails trimmed. Yes, it took all three of them. But not because he’s aggressive, quite the opposite. He thinks everyone wants to pet him and he’s nosy :-D One of them was even brave enough to sit on the floor to do this! These guys are the best and it shows that they like what they do. Now, the vet that saw my dog that day behaved as if she was afraid of him. My dog has never been aggressive and loves people. Even after she witnessed this and I explained this to her, her behavior was unchanged. If someone is a vet and is afraid of animals, it’s time for them to change professions… js. Anyway, I was assured that I’d get a different vet next time. This place is great! Please check them out!:-)
