I’ve been going to Pine Dunes for the 6 years since they opened, and the restoration has been remarkable. [ 2020 Update...Restoration appears to be complete, with the workers trailer removed ] Multiple ponds and hillocks combined with extensive prarie areas, and some woodlands make for a diverse selection of wildlife and wildflowers. July is best for wildflowers, except asters. In Spring you’ll see a variety of water birds, and there are wonderful colors in Autumn. I saw my first mink there yesterday. If you’re a regular, you’ll see something new every few days along the 2+ miles of trails. It’s also a nice place to run in the winter, but a little windy.

Beauty of a trail. Well maintained and open. Some recently planted trees appear to be struggling but birds are aplenty. Not many areas for rest along the way. Bring water. Geocaching here today and enjoying it immensely.

One of my favorite trails. 2.36 miles, beautiful surroundings. Wide path with only a small incline. Lots of parking. Can be mushy after snow or rain, just wait a couple of days for it to dry out.

Wide open preserve with nicely groomed path and lots of nature to observe. There are several small ponds and plenty of opportunities for photos.

Close to loves and other truck stops. Super scenic & beautiful place for hiking or walking dog or run! Path runs alongside several ponds & migration trails. Scattered wildlife & information boards. Parking, mile markers, recycling available. Be mindful for runners, cyclists, and fast movers. Pets welcome.

What a beautiful place. Just stopped for a bit and had to walk around because it was such a nice day. Great walking and bike trail. It's about 2.5 miles total.

My husband and I really loved that this park was in close range to the truck stop. The path was nicely done, plenty wide enough. It was so peaceful there.

This forest preserve is the closest to home. It is a good preserve to go to if you want to have a leisurely walk. There's only one major incline on the walk, but if walking the other way, its downhill. Though definitely not enough benches to sit and enjoy nature, but there is a lookout point which looks over the wetland/pond. I like going because it isn't too hard for a hiking beginner. Plus, this preserve is connected with the large preserve Van Patten Woods. Plus, Pine Dunes is tucked away in a quiet area and isn't very crowded.

I really love this trail. I like running here and my son loves walking with me. Everything is always really maintained. The only issue I have is all of the dog poop that is everywhere. People do not clean up after their dogs. I’ve seen people with poop bags on their dogs leash just let the dog go and walk away.

Went the first time last week with my two dogs for a walk on the 2(ish) mile path. Beautiful place, parking, bathroom, gravel and boardwalk paths, mostly flat. Great place for bird watching, some little ponds but not easy to reach. Nice little place, will visit again.

One of my favorite preserves in Lake County! And potentially one of the newest… ur fact check me on that. It doesn’t feel long ago that they installed and opened this up to public but since then the preserve has somehow grown ten fold and it almost seems like it’s been there forever. Rolling prairie with oak popping up and then the wisconsin forest in the background… the views go well beyond the preserve itself and it’s just stunning. The loop is about 2.2 miles - a perfect dog walk or jog.

Great place with nice trails but avoid it in the rainy season or when the snow melts, because the trail turns into quicksand.
