A great place for a picnic! More of a stroll than a hike, age and family friendly. They keep it super clean, our only gripe would have been the bathrooms.. due to the pandemic they only have one stall available at a time. The ruins are so unique, we had to rush through it to make the museum before closing but we managed to see everything. It was neat to see that even so long ago they had community centers. Recommended to anyone in the area.

Lowry isn't the largest Chaco outlier, but it is, in my view, one of the most interesting and exciting. Lowry has a section which has been stabilized, and largely protected from the elements via a cover. It gives you an opportunity to see an ancestral site from a much different perspective than usual.

It was snowing all around the day I visited this site. I drove in from Hovenweep and drove through some beautiful country to get to the site. There are bathrooms here and the path is paved so there is wheelchair access to the ruin. It was very quiet and I only saw 4 other people stop here. The Great Kiva looks a little different as you can see in the photos. Allow an hour to an hour and a half to see everything. It's well work the trip and you can drive to other ruins in the area and also have time to drive to Hovenweep on the Utah Side.

Impressive ruins and part of the The Canyons of the Ancients. Remote and less crowded. The area was settled between 500 and 1300 by the Ancestral Puebloan people.

I went here after seeing Mesa Verde NP. It was a cool experience because the Pueblo was in tact (aside from a newly constructed roof), you could go inside of it and the walls were constructed differently than at Mesa Verde. It's not too far from highway 491, but the road is unpaved and bumpy. Cost is free, worth a visit.

This is an incredible sight to visit and you can see how much work has been done to carefully excavate and preserve this site. It was one of the most accessible sites we visited in the area allowing you to enter some of the rooms and see great detail on how they were constructed.

Lowry Pueblo is one of the best preserved ruins that we saw in the Cortez, Colorado area. We were able to walk inside a restored kiva and get a feel of what it might have been like. It is a must see on our list.
