Amazing place, home to many art evens. The house itself is a world heritage, protected by UNESCO. Pay special attention to the wood carved ceilings.

"Look, a house!" Wow I guess if your place of origin has no cultural heritage (hint Sofia) sure, you might find it impressive and well-preserved. Entrance? 6lv. Pictures? 6 more lev. Thanks but no thanks. Go to Italy or Sweden instead if you want well-preserved, old houses.

The house is not the original one from the beginning of the 19th century, since that was demolished, but a faithful reconstruction from 1935 based in every detail on the original plans. This probably explains the great shape the house is in. Typical for the Revival Period in Bulgaria, my personal favourite were the wooden ceilings, fine Ottoman style. The only thing I didn't like is that the house is now used to host temporary art galleries in an attempt to mix the old with the new with mixed results in my opinion

It has been a nice surprise this house and museum. Before I went I didn't know nothing about it. I was just curious. I definitely loved it.

Taken in isolation - like all Revival houses - beautiful, even if the gallery-like ground floor doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the house. The Balabanov House appears to have primarily served representative purposes, and the rooms are correspondingly spacious. Everything seems very pompous, more of a stately home than a private house.

The Balaban house is a very good illustration of our revival architecture. The scale and luxury of the furnishings rivaled the best European examples of those times and the wealth and culture of wealthy Bulgarians. It is a pity that the authentic building was destroyed in 1930. but the restoration has been completed down to the smallest details and faithfully recreates the traditions and lifestyle of the wealthy Bulgarian. Entrance was free.

Beautiful furniture however only on the second floor. Downstairs, even the paintings weren’t there bar the name tags 🙄

Beautiful and maintained, but disappointing! There are no signs with explanation in the different rooms about what they were used for, the traditions and amenities of the wealthy people in Bulgaria in that epoch. Just a brief brochure at the entrance. Also, about half of the rooms were closed and we couldn't see the interior there, and no one from the museum worn us, there was no sign at the entrance as well! After we asked why are all those rooms closed for the public, they just said they are being used for administrative purposes or prepered for an exhibition (half if the rooms are in that big house!). Still, they should have told us in advance! And all their attitude to the visitors was like we were bothering them!

The house was built first in the early 19th century by merchants. Later it was demolished and rebuilt in the 20th century. On the first floor are displayed paintings. On the second floor there are several rooms, that are well designed and decorated together with furniture.

Lovely house, however bad organization. The bloking ropes are placed right at the rooms entrance, so you will not be able to see the most interesting feature of the room - the painted alcove. I visited a lot of other museum houses in Plovdiv, and everywhere the ropes were placed so that a visitor could have a proper look at the alcoves and the furniture.

If you come to Plovdiv, you should visit this house. Awesome architecture in the style of "The old town district". It's museum too.
