(Translated by Google) "Alyosha" - a monument to the Soviet soldier-liberator, in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on the Bunardzhik hill ("Hill of the Liberators"). The monument is an 11.5-meter high reinforced concrete sculpture of a Soviet soldier looking east. In his hand is the PPSh, directed towards the ground. A wide staircase of one hundred steps leads to the monument, which stands in the middle of a large observation deck. The flowers at the pedestal are a rare guest in our time, the observation deck is getting out of hand, on the pedestal itself, apparently with their teeth out of anger, they "gnawed" part of the epitaph, the words: "GLORY" and "LIBERATOR". Mostly tourists occupy the beaches of Bulgaria, few people want to leave the sand for a trip to Plovdiv. I do not call to fly "to kneel", but in my opinion, if you consider yourself whole, thinking, cognizing, do not be too lazy to tear your backside off the chaise lounge and touch History. Slightly below (on the way to "Alyosha") there is a monument to Alexander II (or rather in honor of the victory at Philippopolis), erected by grateful Bulgarians in honor of saving them from the Turkish genocide.

It's quite a long walk up to the monument if you follow the paths. If you take all the shortcuts up through the steps that you will see that go off the paths, you can be up there in less than 15mins taking it easy. The monument is massive but there are lots of other things to see round it (which I can neither spell or pronounce), however the view is breathtakingly amazing. You can see all of Plovdiv from up there. You could easily spend an hour there just for the views alone. Definitely bring a bottle of water with you. There is a mobile ice cream and drinks stand near the bottom of the hill.

A stunning monument with breathtaking views over Plovdiv. The history and story of the monument is fascinating and controversial. It was built during Bulgaria’s communist reign and represents the presence of the Red Army in the city of Plovdiv during in the Second World War. Alyosha is a Russian term for ‘defender’. I would recommend this monument and the views to any of Plovdiv’s visitors.

Well worth the trek. I did it in summer, and it was very hot. I recommend early morning, before the UV Index gets too high.

Amazing views, relatively easy hike to the top (as long as you're able-bodied). Bring a drink, there is obviously nothing for sale in the park or at the top of the hill. There are shops just across the road before you start the ascent.

(Translated by Google) There is a wonderful view of the whole city, and in the distance you can see the Rhodopes and Stara Planina! Everyone who visits Plovdiv should take at least some time to visit the monument! Worth! (Original) Открива се прекрасна гледка към целия град, а в далечината се виждат Родопите и Стара Планина! Всеки, който посещава Пловдив трябва да си отдели поне малко време, за да посети паметника! Заслужава си!

Really great place to visit if you find yourself at Plovdiv, you can see the whole city and also the sunrise/sunset, its really beautiful. Just make sure to go when it's not that hot, at the top it could also be a bit windy.

A spectacular 360 view to Plovdiv. Hiked up is not difficult at all and so worth it. The whole path is pavers. Saw so many pp just taking their dogs for a walk in the area. Imagine if this is around the corner for you- pretty lucky I would say. So not only popular with tourists but with locals too. Actually the whole area is protected- vegetation and species. One of 3 proteccted areas in Plovdiv. Well done to Plovdiv pp for looking after their city. Simply beautiful

Fantastic 360° views of the city and Rhodopi Mountains. The climb to the top is also enjoyable, past mini cacti, wildlife and plenty of birds including swallows and eagles! Make sure you wear good footwear though, and probably not suitable for those who are a bit unsteady on their feet.

Interesting place that offers good views over the city. It can be quite exhausting to get on the top especially during the heat wave. We liked it there, not crowded at all

The Alyosha monument is just the tip of the iceberg. The walk to it is really pleasing and what I enjoy best is the variety of paths you can actually take. Turns out that if you go behind his back there is a path that is quite wild and full of cacti 🌵🌵🌵

Very impressed with the size of the stones they used for building the statue. It was very windy when we were up there, but still a great spot to overlook the city view.

It is at the top of Plovdiv, it is hard to reach but it worths when you reach the top, Plovdiv can be seen panoramically. Just follow the narrow stone stairs and rampas.

This is not hard to find as you can see the statue anywhere in central Plovidv. There was some maintenance work happening while I visited which closes some of the paths but you will eventually find on; just keep going up and you will get there. It's a nice spot for sunset.

Gigantic statue of a Russian figure that dominates the town. The walk in the hill to go there is a nice parc and you have a fantastic panoramic view of Poldiv on the top.

(Translated by Google) Great views of the city. As for the monument, there are traces of vandalism. It seems to me that in Bulgaria nobody cares (except for the vandals) about the monuments to Russian soldiers. When the Bulgarians feel bad again, then they will remember that there are brothers in the east.
