The main key in this town is it's ancient history (Roman) which is dug up, conserved and put on display all over the city. A good lession in good city thinking.

History at it’s finest- coolest things to see in Plovdiv! City of Plovdiv surrounded by ancient ruins and architecture. A mall and other pieces of civilization have been built around it!

To start with you can not visit this place. You can only gaze at it from afar. There is no information signs about this and it seems no effort has been made for any restoration or maintenance of this forum. It really can not be compared with the forum in Rome. The other ancient site nearby, the stadium is also a disappointment as only a small part of it exists.

They did a nice remodel, after years of interrupted excavations. One side of the street is beautiful and we'll done, the other a bit more careless but in general it improves the center of Plovdiv

Another slice of ancient life in the city, overshadowed by the grim communist era Post Office and the pleasant garden of Tsar Simeon.

Like many other archeological treasures around here, this one has been well preserved and you can get a good view (I took the time to imagine all the people visiting the place ages ago). As usual, there is a plaque with relevant information at the site...

I think the comments and photos of other reviewers are for another area as this particular one is derelict and has no access (that I could see). Don't bother. Plenty of others to see anyway - for example the Odeon nearby (where most of these posted pictures are taken).

Interesting Roman Forum;can be seen from the street level;quite small place but with fascinating history.I don't believe you can access this place easily and next to no information on site about the Forum. However I visited with a large wonderful group of friends with an excellent tour guide which is best way to see the sights in any city.

Nice place to walk around with you child. Unfortunately there are areas that are dangerous for the public, like underground rooms with lots of trash, pee and poop as well as hundreds of stray cats. The areas should not be accessible to the public, if you don't want your children to get hurt or lost.

Nice place for a quick look. The whole place is under renuvation at the moment so it should look better next year. It's free but there are no explanations for what you see. Still since it's so close to main street it's worth a visit.

It was a pleasant experience to chance upon this historical Roman forum when I was walking back to my hostel. Fun to just explore around and try to imagine what things could have been like in the Roman times. And also appreciate how times have flown and we have modern buildings on top of these ruins.

The Forum is surrounded by the ruins of several ancient administrative buildings. It was the commercial, administrative and religious center of the ancient city. Meetings, discussions, celebrations and state events were held there. It is now in the central square of the city. Out of its 20 hectares, 11 hectares have been uncovered, the rest remain under modern structures.

This place is truly magical- imagine finding out you had your very own Roman forum in your town? The high street and all the shops have been built over where the forum is buried, so one end of the forum is open and the rest is underground. The city once had plans to redo the high street in high strength glass panels to allow you to see the forum, but this plan was ultimately abandoned due to cost.

For sightseeing it's great, but until it gets open to the public to look around up close, it's just a passing tourist attraction. Right now it is fenced off.

Sad, pitiful, run down place. Looks like debris left over from a construction site. Disgraceful!

The current photos are wrong on google maps; they of the theatre. There is nothing left of the forum just a bog empty lot.

You can't miss those if you are walking through the whole main pedestrian street in Plovdiv. They are well restored (I remember this space back in 2006 and it was nothing like today). Do take some pictures and maybe even go down the stairs to approach the ruins if you are into history and archaeology. Located in front of the main post office and at the beginning of the park, 2 steps away from the Plovdiv municipality.

(Translated by Google) The city's first ancient backdrop that gave me a taste of what's to come. Of course you can't compare it to the Roman Forum in Rome, but it's still worth seeing. The white building of the post office reminds me of the "typewriter" in Rome. Both look absurd near the ancient columns.

It is accessible to everyone. Nearby there is, parking, cafes, park. (Original) От нищото и толкова време приличащо на " разораната целина" вече е реставрирано и блести в пълния си блясък.
