The large city palace built in the classic Balkan style in 1829. It was named after the famous French poet Lamartine, who stayed there for 3 days in 1833 on his way back from the Orient. The house is well maintained and renovated (perhaps a bit too much when compared to old photos) but is not open for visits.

Typical of the symmetric style the house was built in 1830 and hosted the French diplomat for a few days during his Balkan trip in 1833. I don't know if it hosts any sort of museum, it was closed on three occasions when I visited. There are other much more impressive houses in the city

Great to visit for French. It's an interesting fact that Lamartine was a guest because he was sick and his host take care of him so he could come back to France after his oriental travel.

The house is a Cultural Monument, but it is crumbling. The Municipality of Plovdiv promised that the house, which, by the way, is very beautiful and unique, would be repaired and restored.

"the house is not a museum. Not open for visitors. " Moreover it wasn't visible from outside. So why do you put it in all tourist maps?!? ;-))

It is located in an old Renaissance style house. The building is nice and well restored.

Alphonse de Lamartine was a French poet, a writer and a statesman. He was also an orientalist who traveled extensively in the Near East. On one of his trips to the east, he stayed in this house in Plovdiv. It carries a plaque commemorating his visit.
