The building was built in 1895 for an officers' club. From 1905 to 1923 it was the "People's House", which had a workers' theater, brass band, orchestra and evening school. In 1951, the building was given to the Museum of the history of capitalism, the labor movement and socialist construction. Today, it houses the Museum Center for Modern History with a spacious, modernly equipped hall, which enables the presentation of art and photography exhibitions, presentations, seminars and other public events. The permanent exhibition "The Soul of the Japanese Doll" presents the history of Japanese dolls. Dolls have a special place not only in the home of every Japanese, but also in their lifestyle. Five display cases display some of the most common dolls for girls, each created from the story of an old legend. Presented are the Hina Ningyo sets - an imperial wedding from Kyoto (the old capital of Japan) and Edo (the old name of Tokyo) - arranged every year on March 3 in homes where there is a girl and a set of dolls for the boy's holiday "Tango no Sekku" Celebrated on May 5, since 1945 it has been declared a national holiday - Children's Day. The traditional Japanese garment "kimono" in its summer version called "yukata" is shown, as well as the musical instrument "koto". The present exposition was realized in 2010 according to an artistic project of Konstantin Kambarev with the financial assistance of the Japanese Embassy in Bulgaria.

The museum is in a beautiful old building, but there is no access for mothers with strollers, people with disabilities. No attention is paid to the maintenance of the garden in front of the museum, nor to airing it more often in the museum itself. There was a wonderful display of Japanese dolls. A very beautiful, if somewhat difficult to access place, with extremely kind and prepared staff. Presents the modern history of the city. My grandson and I visited Museco's interactive exhibit "Eureka" and were very pleased with the presenter who patiently explained and engaged the children in the demonstrations. The other exhibition - "The Soul of the Japanese Doll" is also very interesting. Thanks also for looking after us until the next day and returning our forgotten hat. As a recommendation from previous impressions: let them be more active in announcing their events to have more visitors.

It is very interesting, and Muzeiko is a great joy for both young and old. Just a little more advertising on the streets is needed, something like signs to direct from the main yet.

Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the exhibition since the website announced that the museum is open until 18:00 in August but when we arrived on site at 17:20, an amended sign informed us that the museum closed at 17:00 - which meant we were standing in front of closed doors. Correct, up-to-date and consistent information would have saved us a lengthy and hasty walk for nothing.

The Museum Center for Modern History has a spacious, modernly equipped hall, which enables the presentation of historical, artistic and photographic exhibitions, as well as the realization of other public events. The permanent exhibition "The Soul of the Japanese Doll" is arranged there - the result of the cooperation between the Regional History Museum - Plovdiv and the Japan Volunteers Agency Abroad (JICA). From ancient times to the present day, the Japanese treat their dolls as if they were living beings. Many of their usual holidays are also connected with them. Five showcases located in a special corner display some of the most common sets of Japanese dolls, each based on the story of an old legend.
