This place is stunning. It creeps up to you slowly as you keep walking the dunes. The sand, the forest, the sea and the sky. All in one landscape. Totally a must to do !

Given enough time, every traveller to Lithuania should visit the Curonian Spit and Palanga. The Spit is accessed by ferry, a quick 10min crossing from Klaipeda. The best way to get around on the Spit is by hiring a bike nearby to the ferry departure point in Klaipeda, then taking your bike on the ferry. The bike is cheap to hire, and the ferry is cheap, cash is easier, especially for the ferry. The ferry costs €1 per person RETURN, yes, that is correct, including bikes. The bike ride to Nida is about 54km, and it's predominantly very flat, and a really really lovely day. It's a bitumen track all the way, and only rarely does one need to go on or cross a public road. Crossing the road with a bike should be done on foot, especially where the crossing is marked with white lines. It is possible to take a wrong turn, we did once, but doesn't matter. From side for side across The Spit it's only 1-2km. Nida is lovely, and one can get water along the way. There are at least 2 trackside mobile stops, and 3 villages prior to Nida. I've been riding since age 6, ie 60yrs, and twice a week ride 100kms in Melbourne. The Curonian Spit ride is a must do and very easy for the family. Any kid older than 9 no problem. Allow 3 to 4hrs actual easy riding time.

The Curonian Spit is a peninsula, a 97-kilometer strip of land with sand dunes, separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. This strip was formed by sea waves and currents, sand and wind. The unique attribute of this area is the shifting sand dunes. In 1991, the Curonian Spit National Park was established here. The origin of the name of this area is associated with the Curses, a tribe of Western Balts, this tribe lived on the coast of present-day Latvia and reached the vicinity of Klaipėda. Cultural heritage objects are also protected in the park: the cultural layers of the flooded old settlements, ethnographic fishing farms, old cemeteries, the Evangelical Lutheran churches of Nida and Juodkrantė, other buildings of wooden architecture characteristic of the Curonian.

Impressive scenery of the dunes and the Baltic sea in this national park are present! Having a walk in the dunes is definitely recommended and exploring the town of Nida is truly a nice experience. It is recommended to stop by the other villages on the peninsula like Preila or Juodkrantė where the Hill of Witches is located.

Curonian Spit National Park is one of the most beautiful places in Lithuania. You must visit 💯 The National Park surprises by its grandeur. A rough Baltic sea, lovely hills, evergreen forest, mysterious dunes and breathtaking views! It takes at least two hours to explore this nature reserve. I strongly recommend to spend more time here because it is a good walk for your health and a nice chance to rest and relax. The Curonian Spit is really a unique and vulnerable, sandy and wooded cultural landscape on a coastal spit which features small Curonian lagoon settlements (Nida and Juodkrante have a lot of sightseeing locations). The Spit was formed by the sea, wind and human activity and continues to be shaped by them. On the other hand, it is an outstanding example of a landscape of sand dunes that is under constant threat from natural forces. Dunes are in constant motion all the time but the status of these National Parks guarantees the protection of the cultural landscape. The government in the Republic of Lithuania (Ministry of Environment and authorised agencies) is responsible for the conservation of the Curonian Spit. So be careful when you're walking there. Let's this beauty lasts for a long time and gives positive emotions!

    Really nice conserved dune

The dunes are pretty, but probably not worth the 50+ euro’s for the ferry, entrance in the parc and the fee for the walk if you come by car. There are many countries in Europe where you can see comparable dunes for free and wander around even more freely.

Excellent place for cycling and beach holiday, renewed cycling paths and beautiful white sand beach, absolutely peaceful atmosphere!

Really interesting and unique place. The beach is endless and the water temperature was not so low in August. However 20€ mandatory entrance is too much.

Wonderful experience, so much nature and different landscape across the lagoon. I suggest for sure a visit at this place, one of my favourite places in Lithuania

In my opinion one of the prettiest places in Lithuania, especially if you visit during off-season. A narrow stripe of land between the sea and lagoon. There are places where the dunes are deliberately kept forest free so you could see why this place was once called 'The Baltic Sachara'. There are walking paths and a bicycle path going along all the length of Lithuanian part of the spit. Place is a popular destination during holiday season and the space to house tourists is limited, so during summer it is crowded, often fully booked and expensive.

Such a unique place. White sand beaches on one side and a lagoon on the other, with a long 30k+ bike path all along and small cosy towns along the way.

Rent a bike and spend the day in this magical place! We saw a moose, swam in the ocean and ate blackberries in the forest!

this is an amazing place, 5min and 13€ to cross from Klaipeda to the Spit, drive another 5 minutes to reach the first parking place, take a walk of 10-15 min and you see this:

It's nice place, sand dunes are beautiful on the Russian side and the sea and swimming is good in Lituania. BUT crossing borders here is unbeliveable... 4,5h wasted time, it's so sad that these days they are still checking like everyone is smuggler and entrance fee is quite high. So classic goverment yield on natura....

Amazing place, huge variety of wild life. Be careful of tics (lots of them super small). Lots of mosquito at evevning-night time. Also in the water can find some sharp metal waste.

Very beautifull stretch of shore, beach, dunes and forest. Quite the spectacle when the sun rises or sets. Not easy to get to, trough Russia or by ferry from Klaipeida (Lithuania) and then a toll road (€ 30,-) but worth the effort.

This site is massive. You will transport to visit all places of interest in the NP. There are beautiful beaches but there is only a limited section in the western end where swimming is allowed.

Very nice place, but very not friendly for bicycles. Only some places has good roads. Others are even dangerous

I remember coming here as a kid as it was our family's go-to when we lived back in Lithuania. Now, whenever I get a chance when I'm back, I make my way over. Curonian Spit it's just something else. As soon as you reach Nida, you're hit by a wave of calmness and peace and the life there is just different than the rest of Lithuania. The Spit itself is very well kept and you can see the whole of Nida as well as the border with Russia (small bit of it). Getting up the Spit is definitely not bike friendly (and not sure why you'd want to take a bike up a big mountain of sand?) and yes, if you want to cross the border to Russia, you will have issues as they're not part of the EU. Just like you would if you crossed it from anywhere else! Otherwise, it's a definite must-see when visiting Lithuania.

👍 Beautiful place, well maintained. But €5 entrance fee after already having paid for entrance to the national park (€ 30,-)... come on! For that matter the parking area should be expanded, it can barely hold 10 (to 15, if all free space is used) cars. Not accessible for wheelchairs.

👍👍 Interesting site and sundial with lots of information and curious designs. Believe it or not, it does not account for daylight savings time. There is a good overlook to the peninsula on the Russian side of the border.

👍 At the time of posting, the location on the map is wrong. The map points to the small settlement nearby, but the lighthouse itself is on Urbas Hill (Urbo kalnas). It took is a while to figure that out. The lighthouse and the view are really pretty!

👍👍 Magnificent view in both direction. From the main road side the parking is really tiny only for up to 5 cars. The walk uphill takes up to 15 min. Alternative route is available through forest for hiking or with mountain bike.
