This is one of those spot in middle of nowhere which will very surprise you. I can very recommend it. Scary but interesting. You can buy here your own cross( many types in offer) and you can leave it in this hill of crosses. Land around reminds me Montana in USA. Kind of farms land…

Definitely worth a stop! This historic gem offers hours of exploration. No tickets required, and I found parking easily outside the main lot. Dive into its backstory before visiting, and you might not even need a guide. A self-paced journey through time.

This site is a very unique place with uncertain history. Over 100,000 crosses are here. The Soviet Union attempted to destroy the place several times with bulldozers and burning it. Burnt crosses can still be seen on the hill. The Lithuanians kept rebuilding the place at night. It became most famous after Pope John Paul II visited in 1993. He thanked the Lithuanians for their testimony to the world of their faith. He left monuments with the 1993 date of his visit. People may place their own cross without a permit if the cross is less than 3 meters in height. Some have said the site is scary. I did not find it so. It was solemn and unique. In a few places, music played. Since July 7, 2000, there has been a Franciscan Monastery 300 meters from the hill. Although it was a distance, I thought this was a worthwhile visit.

Amazing place, one of the best part of Lithuania. History, religious and nature in the same spot. Strongly recommend

Walking towards the hill with the crosses vaguely showing in the horizon and step-by-step the emotions started to rise. It was such an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was so spellbinding, captivating, leaving me in such a humble state of mind. The hill was literally covered in crosses from around the world, from every country you could ever imagine. It was so overwhelming. If you are thinking visiting this unique place, remember that you can bring your own cross too.

Hill of Crosses in Lithuania Visited on 2/10/2019 It may be a site of pilgrimage, but I do have a mixed feeling about it. There is plenty of car park, and no entrance fee. After passing the entrance of a big thick wall is immense area of lustrous green fields on both sides of the brick pave path. It is quite a fair walk to the hill where the crosses are. The hill has gentle slope, an it is not wheelchair friendly. According to a source, "Poles and Lithuanians unsuccessfully rebelled against Russian authorities in 1831 and 1863. These two uprisings are connected with the beginnings of the hill: as families could not locate bodies of perished rebels, they started putting up symbolic crosses at the site of a former hill fort." I do not think I like to visit this place alone or in the evening. It is rather eerie for my liking. Although it is called the Hill of Crosses, there are some big statues as well. When Pope John Paul II visited the Hill of Crosses, he declared it a place for hope, peace, love and sacrifice. On a very serious note, I consider this place is a fire hazard. Most of the crosses are small and wooden, simply and randomly pegged into the soil very close to each other. In fact, it is very messy and unsightly to say the least. The management should seriously consider taking necessary precaution to prevent malicious fire bugs or lightning strike to start a fire.

Nice place...a bit creepy too. But if you're in the area, it is advised to stop by as it is free of charge.

You can park at the souvenir/information place for 0,90€ (for car), but if you follow the road you can park for free even closer to the hill.😉 Beatiful place. The number of crosses will probably be around 200000 now, the previous number was from 2006. Kind of busy in summer, but still manageable. You can feel the strength of religious human race contributing to this monument. Each cross might have its own story.

There is no public transport directly go from Šiaulai bus station to the Hill of Cross so I would recommend to go by bolt (around €10-12). It is really worth a go in terms of the historical meaning if you come to Lithuania. It is a open space with over 100,000 crosses.

How can you not love this place? It's not just about Christian but many faith; it's not a tourist destination but a historical place. You have to find an experienced guide to take you around. And please spend some time alone here.

Unusual and unexpected attraction. Hill of Crosses is a site of pilgrimage where crosses were placed on the site to commemorate the victims of the Lithuanians and Poles rebellion against Russian authorities in 1831, as many families could not locate the bodies of fallen rebels. Haunting and grim sentiment. Worth a visit

Such a beautiful location to visit with rich history, no tickets needed but a guide would have been lovely to bring along with us. There's a wonderful tradition where those who visit can leave their own crosses, there's an information centre nearby which sells some but we came after hours and just about missed it.

Impressive place. Never seen something like this. The place is far away from Vilnius and Kaunas, and the tours to here are ridiculously priced. Found it more cheap and convenient to rent a car to go here. Even though you probably won’t spend more than 30-60 minutes here it is still worth the trip to here.

It's somewhere to go to say you've been. But what's in the photos is what's there. Takes maybe 25 minutes to Generously explore, but there is also a Franciscan monastery to visit too. We drove (from Riga) 2 1/2 hours for less than a half hour visit. Would recommend tagging in on to another visit or trip

Day 15. A 300km drive day from Ukmerge Lithuania back to Riga in Latvia via a very quirky religious place called ‘The Hill of Crosses.’ A place of Catholic pilgrimage, there are over 100,000 crosses on this hill in rural Lithuania. The hill has come to signify the peaceful endurance of Lithuanian people despite the suffering they have endured over the generations.

Beautiful place. Once you get there you can buy small or a big cross to leave on the hill. They give you a marker pen if you want to leave a special message for a loved one on a cross. Highly recommended.

The Hill of Crosses is my favorite place in Lithuania. It nourishes my soul when I visit there. This recent visit is my third actually. The hill is not just about the crosses but more so about the history behind it. There used to be more crosses before. We visited in 2014, 2016 and this October 2023. I read that there had been fire on the hill a few years back and last year too so I guess that explains why there are less crosses now.

I had a lovely visit with many more pictures than I can post here. Very interesting. You can bring your own cross and place it here. Great history.

This monument is located on a decent-sized hill with absolutely every square inch covered in multiple wooden crosses, but for a single pathway which snakes up to the top. If you’re driving around Lithuania this is one of the more notable roadside attractions, and well worth a slight diversion to see it

Stunning place! We travelled from Riga for half a day and it was definitely worth it. Entrance if free of charge. There is a small visitor information with a shop and toilet.

As a Catholic I always appreciate to visit a pilgrimage places, and this one is one of my bucket list, perfect place for the crosses, we are from Finland and we travel to Estonia, Latvia and here in Siulai in Lithuania, we arrived early so there not so much tourist and it is better tho, BTW we visited month of August. You better visit early morning before tourist flock to the place, it's just amazing how many crosses and people travel from different countries with their prayers of their beloved who already departed from this world. I just keep my FAITH BURNING! This is free to visit, you can only pay for the parking and toilet! And maybe but some souvenirs as well to bring home with you❤️

Most spiritual place in the Baltics for me so far. Make the effort to visit from Latvia whenever I have time.

Visited in the winter and it was amazing. You can park at the visitor center and walk over take around 3 minutes. Whole trip can be done less than 30 minutes if you’re not particular.

One of the best places that I have been in Baltics. This place is closer from Riga. I did not know about this place then. I visited this place from Vilnius and it was almost little close to 3 hours from there with two short breaks in between. The place in itself was lovely and I got some amazing clicks and loads of memories to take back. It was good to know about the history from the beginning of 1831 about the hill of crosses

Absolutely loved the Hill of Crosses and the story behind it. Many times the Hill of Crosses had either been removed (by the Soviet Union) or through fire, but it always reappears through the devotion of locals and tourists! Really a special place.

A must visit when it Lithuania! Even as someone who is not religious I was taken back by the HUGE scale of the Hill of Crosses. It is very impressive and would definitely suggest visiting.

Interesting place on the way from Riga to Vilnius or Klaipeda. Without having the emotional bond to the background of these crosses, it's okay to see but not worth a trip on its own (a stop/small detour is worth it).

Super intriguing site to visit if you're in the area. You don't need to buy tickets, but if you like you can buy a cross by the entrance to leave behind - even if you're not religious, it's a nice thing to as a mark of respect to such an historically significant site.

An unusual and eerie memorial. People have left crosses here in memory of their loved ones for many years. We also saw some that were as recent as earlier in 2024. It’s worth a stop to take in this unique display. There is no charge to enter and plenty of free parking.

Is a place to visit.!! Very near by to the city and is free of charge. You have a gift shop that you most make a stop

Large Car park with visitor centre and toilets, able to buy trinkets to keep and a cross to put on the hill. Read into the history before coming. Pedestrian access via a long wide pathway before reaching the hill. The top part of the hill is only accessible by steps. Although the base is flat so disabled people can get round.

Very interesting place. I recommend to read some information about its history before you go there- it’s not only a place of pilgrimage. You can also buy a cross and erect it here, if you fill some rules (max. three metres high and so on). You have to park your car in the marked place, which is paid.

You don't have to be religious to appreciate this place, but it will probably mean something more if you are. Pictures does not do this place justice, it is hard to take in. The place is free to visit but they charge 0.9€ for parking.

Very interesting place to visit and experience. Estimates of around 100K crosses, crucifixes and statues on the site. Formal car park which is a 10 minute walk away or park by the side of the road for easier access. About 1hr 45minutes from Riga

Out of the way place in Lithuania but a short drive from where we were staying in Riga, Latvia. When you look at all of the crosses, you can see so many stories that are surely captured here. Highly recommend visiting this gem.

  • 5/5 KC M. 11 months ago on Google
Very beautiful spot that is worth the trip. The hill of crosses dates Bach many years and with the crosses you see it shows. Approximately 200,000 crosses are present and many more added daily. There are paths to walk and some have some music and talking wired into the area. Again, take ur time and observe everything. The pope blessed the area in the 90’s.

  • 5/5 Tom Vidar J. 10 months ago on Google
Very intense place with extraordinary energy. Beautiful, stunning and peaceful yet vibrant. A very unique holy place to visit. More than 100.000 crosses on and around the hill.

The Hill of Crosses is an awe-inspiring and spiritual place that should not be missed when visiting Lithuania. The hill is adorned with thousands of crosses of various sizes and designs, each representing a prayer or wish. It is a symbol of resistance, faith, and national identity for Lithuanians. The hill's history is fascinating, and the stories behind the crosses are thought-provoking. The atmosphere is peaceful and serene, and visitors can spend hours exploring the hill's nooks and crannies.

This place is bizarre, even a bit scary maybe? Yes, also special and unique but mostly weird. Would say it is interesting to visit if you are in the area. Would not recommend to come here just for the crosses. You need approx 30min to walk around.
