Way better than I expected. It wasn't very crowded for us on a Thursday. Tickets are good for 24 hours. Covers everything from the history, to war time use and peace time uses including quack medicine. Check out their website which will give you a really good idea if this is your cup of tea. Very educational.

Everything you want to know about the Manhattan project and the history of nuclear science! Lots of cool history and planes! The toy room was really cool too!

Patriotic, historical and unapologetic. I loved this museum, it stuck to the facts and did not paint USA as the bad guys. Which I was surprised to find refreshing. The props are excellent, to my civilian eye everything looks like the real deal. I believe it’s important to learn history, and to not fear nuclear energy. Very informative, but it’s also just good to walk around. It also has a very good airplane yard. Kids would probably love that part

I was excited to visit this museum as I am interested in science and especially in the history of the Cold War and the technological advances that were made as a result. This museum did not disappoint me in the slightest! There were a lot of great exhibits showing not only the military side of nuclear science, but also the medical and power generation applications of nuclear technology. The display of airplanes and missiles outside is also well worth viewing. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone who has an interest in history, nuclear science, or aircraft.

This was the most incredible place I've been since NASA space center! Planes from WWII with mockups of the tower that held test atomic bombs! It could take many hours to go through if you read every description of the pictures or materials! Small but nice gift shop too! Too get in free, go to the library to get a pass!

4.5/5 stars - knocking down half star because of how small the place is and what they charge for entry in comparison. As a kid, the only things I was good at drawing were jets, rockets and the space shuttle, so this place took me back to a happy place in my life! Great exhibits, friendly staff and very knowledgeable and helpful volunteers!

Took the kids to this museum and was delighted to find the amount history and hands on exhibits. We had gone out to the Trinity site earlier so this was a way of learning about Los Alamos and the American nuclear program from the 1940s. They also teach about how nuclear science is used in medicine & energy production today. The gift shop has some nice goodies, too!

This is just an amazing place! Lots of history and just enough kids stuff throughout to keep attention going! Very knowledgeable staff and all of them wanting to share with you! Allow yourself around 2 hours to see all the amazing exhibitions inside and outside!

The museum itself is well organized. It's main tour route takes you through the whole development of nuclear weapons to the end of the cold war. Plenty of artifacts from various time periods, both original and reproductions. Then there are other thematic areas thar covers other aspects of nuclear history, science, and technology. Outside is an open air area with planes, missiles, and other weapon systems. Overall a multiple hour experience.

Very nice, relatively-small museum with dense signs for those interested in more depth for most of the subjects. Very polite staff. Lovely views of the mountains, too!

Lots of great artefacts on display both inside and outside. You'll be able to capture both Fat Man and Little Boy in one picture. There's Soviet MiG-21 next to the F-16. But the exhibit that attracted my attention the most is the gun capable of firing nuclear shots. There are very few of them were made.

This is A TERRIFIC place for history buffs and older teens. It requires a great deal of reading, and doesn't have much for small kids. The guides are excellent and the welcome is OUTSTANDING. My girls are both interested in science, so they loved being able to pick out and read about the major contributions made by women. This museum offers a lot of learning, and history.

Definitely, a place to visit while in Albuquerque. We were there for the Ballon festival and needed some side activities to fill the time. The place is just awesome. Historical timeline from the early discovers to our current situation and why there is a desperate need to acquire the technology for medicine and for power.

This is must see museum if anybody is interested in atomic bomb, Oppenheimer etc. I visited Los Alamos too but this is super good. People were also very helpful. A bit smaller than Smithsonians in DC but if you visit Albaquerque this is a good 2 hours.

This museum is very cool and has a lot of nuclear paraphernalia you won’t find anywhere else. The exhibits are well arranged and curated and the plaques are very informative. They have a couple of fun areas for kids including and Einstein room with an animatronic Albert Einstein, sand hands on science toys like bikes you can pedal to make electricity and giant molecules you can assemble. Outside they have a an assortment of planes and cruise missiles. The museum is small for a 17 dollar entry fee per person but we got a family pass from the library.

Wow, you literally could browse through this joint all day. The aircraft catch your eye as you pull in from the highway and they are really the highlight of the place. Their displays about the Manhattan Project were interesting, the German WWII nuclear project and the 1950s/1960s pop culture referencing the nuclear era was amazing, too. Check out the MIRVs and ICBMs. The "big nuclear" bit about nuclear power was ok, too. There is heaps of free parking and their toilets were clean and tidy. They have a cool souvenir shop, too.

It’s a very informative and educational place if you want to learn some nuclear knowledge as well as history. Love the layout and various contexts. Love the out door exhibits. Saw A real B52 first time. Tips: it could take up to a day to read all information and watch the videos. Allow yourself at least 2 hours to have a quick through.

A great display of nuclear science, both past and present technology. How it was developed. The experiments that were done in the early days. The ways we’ve put this source of energy to work for us. Also the ugly, weaponized side of nuclear energy in detail. Definitely plan at least an hour, if not 2 to walk the entire museum. Including the large outdoor area with various aircraft, mock subs, test towers and even a kids playground. Kid friendly! Plenty of interactive exhibits, outdoor playground and classrooms.

So neat! The highlight is definitely the yard full of old planes and equipment that you can walk right up to but I also liked the 4-5 minutes film. I think that was really well done. They also have some unique items in their gift shop from small businesses which I appreciated! Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly :) Seems like it'd be a good outing to do with kids as there are some creative interactive exhibits too.

Incredible museum that shows the timeline and story of nuclear energy and all of the pioneers who ushered in the nuclear age. The museum also contains many interesting artifacts that highlight the many different facets of the atomic revolution, including the creation of the bomb and then nuclear energy. For anyone curious about nuclear science, this place is a must see.

Blew expectations, so much history, replicas, pop culture section, informative green energy. So much to see, spend a couple hours there definitely. The art/drawing exhibit for a soldier during WW2 was cool to read and see all his sketches. Barely was able to get through half. Like 700 stories and photos? Crazy!

This a great place for all ages. The educational area was for kids big😃 & small. My Granddaughter’s boyfriend pick this place out as his main place he wanted to see while visiting Albuquerque, so here we are. Year around this is a great inside venue. So much history good & bad. Past, present, & future of Nuclear industry. New Mexico strong history in Nuclear Science is found every where in this place. ** if you need them take your reading glasses. **embrace this place by watching the videos, read the placards, touch the items that you are allowed too, etc… This is a visual & hands on place. If you have family & friends visiting this is a must see museum. Even a playground outside to release some of your kids energy. Senior & Veteran discount

Great museum with a really knowledgeable staff! The exhibits were better than expected and the facility was clean. It wasn’t too busy and affordable. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!

Really enjoyed the exhibits and I learned a lot. It's a place you could spend one hour or six hours. If you like to learn and take your time then you will find several gems of information. If you want to just hit the general stuff and see the highlights you can do that too. I went without my family and enjoyed reading about atomic energy, from warheads on foreheads, clean energy, nuclear waste, mining, and pop culture. There is something for everyone.

I was ecstatic to find that a museum like this existed. I am obsessed with the history surrounding the early development stages of nuclear power into the modern era. Really detailed exhibits and amazing ability to show the scale and brain power that designed and built these technologies.

We are definitely going back because there was more to see. It brought back many memories of the early fifties and sixties and further back. It's truly amazing what they have put together.

This is a great little museum located in Albuquerque New Mexico, my son loved it and the people working there were very nice and helpful! Seeing what the bombs looked like back then was very interesting. I highly recommend stopping by the National Museum of Nuclear Science & Energy if your in the area.

This was a mind blowing experience. There is enough information here to last hours. You can be your own guide here no problem. However if you to listen to the guide you will hear so much information that it will be hard to process it all. The staff was amazing and the facilities were super clean. One of the best facilities I have ever been in. It is also a great spot for Pokémon Go.

The museum is great, however the docents are where it is at. My favorite part was walking outside and talking with Bill, who had thousands of hours flying B-52’s and B-47’s. These guys are living history and make the trip worth it. Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸

Cool museum about the history of nuclear science and weapons with lots of artifacts. I had less than 2 hours but could have spent twice that long looking at everything.

Aaaamazing place! A lot of original objects, a lot of well presented information, very good guides (they know their job) and a good collection of planes and ballistic missiles.

One of the best museums. You can learn pretty much everything about nuclear science and weapons. They have missiles, bombs, planes, subs, demos of nuclear power plants, nuclear science theory to medicine. Most interestingly they have planes and bombs from world war II. They have volunteers and staff to guide you and explain you things.

Interesting museum with some areas under construction at the moment (Nov 2023 that is). // After seeing „Oppenheimer“, a co-worker wanted to learn more about the A-Bomb. The museum teaches that, but to me there was no real structure and guidance. There are several areas, but there is no real A-to-B kind of guidance. Other museums are doing better (see the war museum in London for example). Still the planes on display make up for a lot.

Very cool place to visit with the whole family. There are multiple exhibits designed for children, including an outdoor playground. The history is presented in an easy to understand and sensitive way. There are a lot displays that were unexpected, including the postal exhibit. Also, the tickets are good for two days.

I have always had an interest in the Manhattan Project so the place was perfect for me. Lots of interesting facts and displays. They have a good Sized area inside and airplanes on display outside .The admission fee was cheap and I spent a few hours there.

A fun place to learn about the science of nuclear energy. The museum tells the story of nuclear science through artifacts and realistic displays inside. Out back, the museum has an excellent collection of planes, missiles, and a full-size recreation of the very first nuclear test site.

I would highly suggest that you go it is common worth it they have real genuine machines and stuff from like 1940s to now and you will have alot of fun it's not expensive and they have more than just bombs and stuff you will really learn something they have aircraft like a Mig-21 F-105 B-29 B-52 lots of stuff

  • 4/5 Alex K. 2 years ago on Google
It's a little museum that has a few interesting displays. The aircraft/missiles in the backyard are a sight to behold. They offer discounts for veterans, military, and (surprisingly) nurses.

Amazing place to visit! Full of information and great learnings! I agree with others that I would not recommend younger kids as it is a lot to take in. I would wait till they have at least went into middle school. I also wish they marked (unless I missed it) the areas to show which exhibit to go into next, the map did, but I did not see any markings in person! Airplanes were a blast to see and you got to learn about so many things the text books wouldn’t tell you! Highly recommend!
