In 1906 there was a need to build a new church, this was designed by the Italian architect Nicolau Ferigoti, attracting attention due to its different style and also because it could be seen from several locations, as it was at the top of the hill. In 1978, the demolition of the Cathedral began, and a new one was built in the same location, with a more modern style.
