The best place you can visit to learn about what a Santa Casa da Misericórdia is, its history, its heritage, its functions and its charisma. In this case in particular the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Évora, but take advantage because this way you get to know the entire project of creating these secular institutions created by D Manuel I. Well-designed, well-designed museum with the possibility of consultation and in-depth study through interactive digital means.

Despite finding the paintings to be of low quality, the church has phenomenal gilded carvings, by master carver Francisco da Silva, made between 1710-1714. It was later gilded by master gilder Felipe de Santiago Neves, in 1729/30, after a dispute with master Manuel da Maia. The rivalry between these masters led to the writing of new contracts, described in detail by the principals, as both masters refused to be examined by the other. These contracts reveal the technique, materials and prices in force in Évora, in 1729. The tiles, also from the 18th century, contrast beautifully with the gold of the carving. Some panels were made by master António de Oliveira Bernardes, others by Teotónio dos Santos. The collection of saints' records in the museum is very special - as it has a very popular aesthetic, with golden boxes, lacework and filigree. The employee Sofia Melo is super attentive and explained everything very well.
