After visiting the palace I recommend visiting also the Chalet da Condessa D’Edla ( the acces is included in the entrance ticket for the Park and National Palace of Pena) From the Pena Palace go down through the garden, on the left side,to the west, to the lakes area, 5 min walk. There you’ll find another gate. From here you can go 900 m walk to the Chalet. I recommend the walk because it is an amazing paved path through the forest and you can see very cool views of the Palacio da Pena. The Chalet reopened to the public after a long process of recovery and restoration after the building was destroyed by fire in 1999. Is a must because you can see interesting and unique cork decorations.

Such a beautiful and unique building. Also, the story of the countess is interesting and would make a great movie.

Totally worth checking out if you can handle the 30+ minute walk there. The chalet itself is not very big but lots of cool stuff to see on the way, a very enjoyable walk. Gardeners house also looked cool, shame it's boarded up and you can't see the fireplace inside!

Beautiful place, very different architecture then the palace. Park and walk from palace to chalet is very nice and definitely worth your time. It is greatly maintained but also very wild and nature is in controle. In autumn/ winter time back fence open but you have to walk 10 min to the bus.

A must-see when visiting the Palacio's gardens. Make sure you read the history of the place in the explanatory notes displayed nearby. Magnificent cork decorations inside, lovingly recreated and a quirky outside deco too. Five stars from me.

(Translated by Google) Lovely chalet in the heart of Parque da Pena full of romantic stories from other times. The architecture is wonderful both outside and inside. The surrounding gardens complete the bucolic setting of this not-so-known historical treasure.

Fascinating building, do take time to read the information in the various rooms and study the detail all around you. We popped in as part of a bigger trip around the palace gardens and were so interested in the history and architecture of this little chalet.

A definite must if you are in the Sintra area. Easily accessible by train from Lisbon. Gorgeous surrounding in nature. Lovely walking area amongst trees and plants. The house has such an enchanted atmosphere. I am so happy I incorporated the viewing of the chalet as part of the palace visit / walk

Beautifully crafted home for the King's second wife. Good information in English on the history and biography. Some personal items also displayed. Included in the pena palace ticket, with a pleasant but longish walk from the palace. Hop on hop off bus only allows 13 people so best to queue early.

A beautiful chalet with exquisite cork details in the shadow of the Pena Palace. The walk from the palace was a bit long, ~30 min, but it was worth the trek. The Countess of Edla planted a stunning fern garden that is along the wall. A shuttle bus back to the entrance was a plus.

Very interesting chalet both exterior and interior. It's not so large so shouldn't take too long to go around and no crowds

Very pretty chalet in one the outskirts of the park around Pena palace. You can also get there by road, so you don't have to walk there from the Pena palace, although the walk is definitely worth it. The entire chalet is wood based and has a very unique look and feel to it. I absolutely loved it.

(Translated by Google) What happens at the Chalet Park's gate is unavoidable: the police are waiting for the rare visitors to park their cars on the side of a detour on a secondary road (the only space where they can park). Incredible what is happening. Whoever goes there is immediately fined € 30.00. The sad image that is given to tourists. I ask: how can you reach the Chalet ????? ... on foot from the village of Sintra? Have the managers of Parques de Sintra not yet solved this problem? In the middle of a state of calamity, how do you dare to fine visitors? Where does the intelligence of the Monte da Lua coordinators hang? ... do they deserve the air they breathe? ... do they deserve the wages they receive? .... do they not want visitors (tourists)? .... has confinement changed people's minds? I will report this case publicly, through various media and through all social networks. Parques de SIntra has an obligation to resolve visitor access to the Chalet.

A quiet and quick stop here. The use of cork in the inlays and outside and even the ceiling was really interesting. It's a great place to start to avoid the tourists and to go on a secret garden style walk up to High Cross before your head back down through the valley of lakes. Tiring but amazing day on the fringe of the tourist hordes.

Didn’t go in but very pretty from the outside. Also a great entrance in to the park. If you are driving, you can park there for free (small lot though) and then walk up to the castle which is about 40mins up the hill. Very pretty walk but mildly strenuous.

This small palace like villa caught fire in 2008 so what you will see here is a restoration where every room looks more or less new. There isnt much furniture inside either but the outside garden is worth visiting for sure. You can get here on foot after seeing Pena Palace as well. This is also included in Pena's entrance ticket too.

The Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla (Portuguese: Chalet e Jardim da Condessa d'Edla), also known as the Casa do Regalo, are in the Municipality of Sintra, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. They are situated on the western side of the park that surrounds the Pena Palace, and are part of the Sintra Cultural Landscape, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1995. They are also part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Source Wikipedia.

The Chalet of the Countess of Edla is a beautiful building located within the Pena Palace park. It really looks like it came out of a fairytale. The surrounding environment is so quiet and the interiors are very interesting to see. You do not have to pay extra to visit the chalet, and it takes approx. 40/50 mins to walk there from the palace. There is also an entrance to the park which is very close to the chalet but it was closed when we visited. I would definitely recommend paying a visit to the chalet if you are visiting the Pena park.
