It’s one of most beautiful locations in Porto hence a must visit. Take a walk on the bridge and do a cable car, costs €6 per ticket and have a nice walk along the river with plenty of options to eat and drink. You can come back through the cable car by buying a return ticket for €9. It becomes really beautiful during the sunset time.

(Translated by Google) The D. Luís I Bridge is an icon of architecture, engineering and history for Oporto, integrating one of the most emblematic landscapes of the region, where crossing the Douro River is a pleasure to enjoy the panoramic view, being a must see. either being on top of it to see the surrounding landscape, or to be around seeing its magnitude. After crossing the bridge, in any direction, take the opportunity to walk down from the Porto side to the Cais da Ribeira, passing through its streets, slopes and lanes, and in the same way on the Gaia side go down to the pier, and take the opportunity to climb and get off the cable car. All the attractions complement each other, incredible.

This is another great piece of architecture in Porto and a definitive must-see and do. If you want to cross the river Douro, then this is a great way to do so. Be it on the lower level or on the top level. For the amazing city views of course you should head to the top. There are some cable-cars passing the bridge. But not very frequently, so there's a lot of space, even though full with visitors. There's always a gap to be found to take in the views or to take some pics. At its construction, its 172 metres span was the longest of its type in the world. The construction was to be administered by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel. It was inaugurated on October 31st, 1886. There are many reasons to come to this bridge. The city views, the river Douro views. Or for the bridge itself and its stunning architecture and history.

The bridge itself is a beautiful structure. You can get great views of Porto and the Ribeira as well as the sunset from here. The tram also goes over here as well. Well worth a visit.

Amazing views from the bridge, it's also a great place to catch the sunset. Liked it so much, we went there twice and walked on the lower and upper levels. You can also watch people jumping off the bridge and you get to enjoy lovely music from buskers. The bridge itself is lovely.

A must see if you visit the city of Porto. This old bridge offers you a Fantastic view of this city full of history and amazing buildings. The bridge is free to visit, so no excuse not to go there. If you are afraid of heights there is also the possibility to go downstairs and take the lower bridge crossing. Of course the upper one gives you the best view of the city.

It's a must visit place in Porto, and as a pedestrian crossing the top level with trams and sidewalks. On either side and especially to the south you can walk to viewing points to look back and marvel at the engineering, design and beauty of the bridge. From the top of the bridge, you can get good views of Porto, the south and the Douro river that separates them. The bottom level is currently closed off to cars, and pedestrians are directed to one way lanes to cross that have limited areas of viewing.

This is one of the best places to go while visiting Porto. It gives amazing views over the river and the city. It has 2 levels where you can cross it, i would recommend you to try both upper and lower levels because they are different experiences. Try to be there at sunset time because the view is magical. I would return for sure.

This is the most beautiful attraction in Porto. When you walk along the top of the bridge, the height seems prohibitive, the view of the city on the river and the trams that rush past is wonderful. The only moment the bridge is partially under reconstruction now, and almost half of the lower part is covered with building films.

This is a double-deck metal arch brige over Douro river between downtown Ribeira distrct and Vila Nova de Gaia. Constructed between 1881 and 1886, it has 172 meters span and the longest one in the world at that time. The chief architect is Gustave Eiffel, yes, the same guy built Eiffel Tower in Paris. The bridge is now a cultural heritage of Portugal and a must see if you travel to Porto. The bridge was named after the king of Portugal, Luis I. One kilometers away, a neighbouring bridge (Dona Maria Pia bridge) was named to honor his queen. You can walk on both upper and lower decks of the bridge: The lower deck can be easily accessed from the river bank. It is shared by both pedestrian and cars. The view is actually better than the upper deck. The upper deck can be accessed by either a long stairs over the river bank or the cable car (4 euro one way, 6 euro both ways). There are trams running over the upper deck. No other motor traffic is allowed on upper deck. There are lots of cafes and restaurant around the river banks, some of them are tourist traps, others are actually pretty good. In addition, the one hour river cruise is wonderful if you take it during sunset time.

Such a great walk amazing vibes and of course the view. Sun sets could be great to watch but it was foggy I wasn’t lucky enough to experience it but none the less the river side view is amazing. You can watch both sides of the river, the cable cars and the Serra monastery it’s beautiful.

Luis I is the most famous bridge of Porto. Its definitely worth a walk across. You can take the funicular up there or for the more active people, there are the stairs of course. This place is really good to observe all of Porto and a classic spot to see the sunset.

The views from the bridge and around are amazing. The top has the metro going over and by foot and below another bridge for cars and by foot. Quickest connections across the river - river taxi requires a bit of a wait unless you time your arrival perfectly.

One the best bridges and locations in Porto!! While on the bridge, you can of course walk through it. Metros go past you but it’s pretty cool to walk on it. But the real beauty comes from when you look at the bridge from a view point. It is majestic and tall! At some point while walking through the bridge, I peeked over and at the water below and I got scared. It’s so high up! Such a gorgeous bridge. You can also take the cable car from one side of the bridge, which rides along one of the river banks. Didn’t think it was worth it to be honest, but you can give it a shot.

Nice point of view on the city. You can walk either on the top or bottom part. There are sometimes people playing music on the bottom part during the day. A nice place to stop. The top park has the tram tracks on it but you can still walk. Just be careful when the roll by!

Beautiful bridge connecting both river sides and providing beautiful views over Douro river and the river banks. You can take a tram over this bridge too but that is not necessary as one way will take you 15-20 minutes if you stop a lot to take pictures. Taking a walk over this bridge and the views of it is a must do in Porto!

A visit to porto is not complete without crossing this amazing bridge both ways , we crossed the top to get to the other side, than after a lovely lunch and tastings at the market, we crossed along the bottom, all and all quite easy walking, a fun day out.

Historical, Amazing, Marvelous and all the adjectives one can think off. The experience is amazing and wonderful. I think it's the Porto's no.1 attraction. Tourist must experience the sunset under the Bridge and above it. And the metro passing, is also breath taking feel. Nice people, lively culture, friendly people. Feels like home sweet home.

This is by far the best thing to watch in the entire city. The sheer size of it just blew my mind. It's definitely worth to visit both levels. The top one because of the lack of any special safety (glass, bariers ... etc.) enables you to look straight down which gives you the shivers. Definitely a must see.

A wonder engineering bridge, designed by one of Eifeel pupils. There are two crossing levels. The lower one has been designed for car and people. And the upper one is for trains and people. From this level you will find the best views of Porto.

One of the most beautiful sites in Porto, Portugal, is walking this bridge as the evening lights if the city come on. The river is beautiful, it's an active, vibrant area, and the city provides a remarkable background. Don't miss it!

Great views both day and night. It’s a lot less crowded at night even though the view is equally impressive, but it still wasn’t too busy around noon. Walking along the top and the bottom levels is a must. You can also view the Luís I from the other bridges.

Such a beautiful bridge and amazing sunsets. It’s funny at the afternoon some kids will be jumping into the river and this is very nice to watch Please do not jump in the morning as the river is usually shallower than the afternoon. It’s very dangerous to jump in the morning

As you can see on the pictures below, the sunset is one of the best romantic atmosphere, it is lovely for pares. If you do your sightseeing tour, you should visit the bridge on top or either under the bridge, you have two ways to across the bridge. There are a lot of restaurants around the river, either ship tours which is not expensive. You will get a remind back, if you left the city.

Nice bridge. Multiple ways to get up to both sides. Very high but you will survive even if you don’t like heights. The bridge bellow make for easy trips for the way back from exploring either side. Trams passing are cool. So worth doing during the day for the view and at night for the experience with the lights safely guiding your way. :)

What a bridge. Just alone the way it's constructed is majestic and breathtaking. When you come below it becomes a beautiful mesh of steel rods and just feels amazing. The bridge alone is constructed as a two level transporter, so you can cross from the lower parts of the city as well as the higher. With that, this architectural piece is just a magnet for photographers and other artists who wish to make something out of it. Even Parkour people climb it and jump around from time to time.

What a view! This steel construction is just amazing. We took a train/tram line D to get over the bridge and walked across in the opposite direction. You can walk using entire width of the bridge and averse few minutes move to the side to let the tram go. Enjoy the landscape and breathtaking view over Douro River and picturesque Porto. Equally impressive during the day and the evening. A must do when you visit Porto.

This is a must when you are in Porto. It has two layers. One is up to the top you can go and walk of which I did not but the one close to the river I walked many times. Lovely sights of the city. Strongly recommended.

Beautiful bridge with gorgeous view of Douro River, we enjoyed walking to the other side where you can have a picnic, listen to the music, and feel the good vibes. Take a light jacket with you because the weather changes many times a day, it gets windy sometimes at Riverside.

If you come to Porto, you must walk on this bridge, even if you are like me (extremely scared of heights). And please, try to go on the both levels and take your time to enjoy. We did this at the sunset and we had the most amazing landscapes with Porto, Gaia and Duero River. Check the photos for proof. :)

Definitely should be a part of your Porto tour. Indeed, next time I'll stay on that side of the bridge... a little less busy & congested than downtown, and the views & access to port distilleries really gave the city a better vibe. Beautiful architecture to boot.

This bridge. It’s just stunning. Its like the centre piece in an art gallery. It ties the city together. Quite literally. There is no path by it. You will cross it a lot, either on food or in the Metro. And you’ll love it. What a mere steel structure can conjure up is simply amazing. Can’t miss in any list in Porto. 100% Full recommendation! 👌🏽🤩

So much to see and do around this area, both on the Porto side and the Gaia side. There are tons of restaurants and crafts, as well as extremely talented street performers; mainly restaurants on Porto side, and wineries with free tastings on Gaia side. Rich with history, this is easily the hub of Porto's tourism center as many of the water activities start here. A morning run or walk, is the best way to take in the beautiful views undisturbed.

Must visit place, easy to walk on multiple levels and the crowds make it entertaining. It is indeed an engineering marvel. The view of the river and banks is breathtaking from the bridge. At the lower level the buses, cars, bicycles and pedestrians travel through. At the upper level the trams, bicycles and pedestrians travel through. You can travel from one end of the bridge at the lower level to the other side and then take the cable car option to go to the upper level. There are so many options but trying all is fun and you get to see different views, sights and crowds

Beautiful bridge. Walk from above and below decks. Perfect during mornings and evenings. It's also really beautiful during sunset. I loved walking on the bridge upper deck as the metro trains moved past us.

A very cool place and a must visit if you are in Porto. Should totally cross from one side to the other. The road to get here can be a bit complicated but take it easy and enjoy. Can really take great pictures from here if the weather is nice. Also, it is very close to la Ribeira, where you can sit and have a drink while you enjoy the view.

Very vibrant and picturesque area. Easily walkable on the bridge and both sides of the river. Crowded and many shops as well as street vendors selling crafts on the streets.

Amazing landmark in the middle of Porto - a must do. You can walk across to Gaia on either the lower level or up above with the best views over both sides of the river. Places to have food and sights are on both sides of the bridge and you can enjoy the best sunsets. Not for you if you don't like crowds 😉

Fabulous walking bridge with 2 levels. Incredible views of Porto from the top down the river. The top has rails for the tram so pay attention. The lower level allows cars to cross. Spectacular bridge. Must see when in Porto. At the far end is the Morro garden
