(Translated by Google) When crossing the D. Luís Bridge towards Porto you will arrive at the Porto Cathedral, an iconic cathedral with a lot of history and wonderful architecture, which can be seen from different points of the streets and slopes, in any sense, take the opportunity to walk down the side of Porto to Cais da Ribeira, passing through its streets, slopes and lanes exploring its corners and the Portuguese people, and on the side of Gaia go down to the pier while still taking the opportunity to climb and descend from the cable car.

Stopped by on a Wednesday morning just after 10:30 and it wasn’t too busy. We didn’t go inside the church, as you had to pay a fee, but there was plenty to see outside and around. There is a small hill up to the church (but I guess there is a small hill everywhere in Porto!) but once you get up there, you get beautiful views of Porto and all its red rooftops. We probably spent about half an hour just taking pictures outside, so make sure you bake enough time for that into your schedule.

A really incredible place set atop a hill so it has great views from around the building. Totally worth the 3 euros to go inside to see the beautiful tile work and arches and then to climb the tower. The panoramic views up there are incredible.

An incredible place. It is one of the most interesting cathedrals I have ever visited. You have the opportunity to see every detail in the tiles and in the architecture. With the ticket and at no additional cost, as part of the tour you can climb the tower and appreciate incredible views of Porto. It is well worth visiting the place and learning a little more about the local history through its walls.

Very nice cathedral and its monastery. The central courtyard is beautiful and gives access to many other rooms and chapels. You can also access the top of the Bell tower and get a nice view. You can also buy the full tour ticket for 6€ which gives access to the Palace next to the cathedral. It's an important spot to visit, definitely recommended.

Such an incredible place to visit! We enjoyed a lot! It’s an 3€ ticket entrance and it’s totally worth it! The views are majestic! The cathedral itself is amazing! It’s like from a fairytale! Highly recommended!

Beautiful cathedral completed on 1737 with nice cloister. Tickets for 3€ but it is worth paying them as besides visiting the cloister and cathedral itself you can climb one or the two towers to get amazing views of the Douro river and city. Don’t miss visiting it!

Finally visited the church, the Porto Cathedral. The church a (must) see while in Porto. What an amazing experienced seeing inside the church. Inside the Cathedral you'll see the silver altar that holds interesting story. You'll find beautiful Sacred art museum and Gothic cloisters. The architecture indoors are magnificent. While inside the church try to go up through the stairs on the way to the top where you'll see the amazing panoramic view of the entire city of Porto and its worth it.

When in Porto, you would never miss this hulking fortress like cathedral which sits on a hilltop. The alter is lavish baroque style gilded with gold leaf. The granite stonework and the high ceilings provide a solemn vibe. I was surprised to see painted ceiling like the ones I saw in Rome, which is not very common in Portugal. The cloister was the most impressive with walls that were fully decorated with brilliant blue and white tiles illustrating biblical stories. Climbing to the tower, again, more tiles, more stories. But makes the climbing more worthwhile it’s the view of the riverfront and the old town. The Porto Cathedral is a must visit when in Porto. With Porto Card, you can save €1.

I am a tour guide in Porto +351925667835.🌅✨ The place is very close to the Bridge Luis First. Which is also a very beautiful view. I personally found the way to this place very easy but going up. It is incredible to think that this beautiful place was built here in 1110. The views are amazing. You can buy the tickets in the church but also the is a section of the church that is for free. The line was very short. There is access to chairweels but not all the places have one. Perfect to go with kids. Parking building nearby but anyway you have to walk. I really recommend to forget about your car in Porto if you want to enjoy. Very walkable. Restaurants nearby. I recommend after looking at this church, walking down the old streets in front of the church, which is the old town.

A visit to Porto Cathedral is a journey into sunlit historical splendor. Situated near the Luis I Bridge, it offers stunning views, especially radiant under the sunshine – sunglasses recommended! This majestic structure is accessible via a scenic uphill walk. With both ticketed and free sections, the experience is enhanced by the charm of street musicians, adding a melodic backdrop with their guitars. Ideal for families, the cathedral is a gateway to exploring Porto's old town. Remember to stroll leisurely, as every corner around it is a delightful discovery.

This is an amazing Cathedral. We had planned to come here for both the tile work and the hallway passages. Both did not disappoint. The tile work is stunning, intricate and interesting. I was pleasantly surprized with a low entry price.

It's a beautiful church, with a tower to climb to get some gorgeous views of the city. One of the oldest cathedrals of the city. The ticket to enter cost Euro 3, which includes the watchtower. Their site usually doesn't work, so you have to stand in the queue to buy it. There is a Palace next to it, which people usually combine, with a Euro 6 ticket. Its closed on Sundays, so we couldn't visit.

Incredible cathedral to experience. We had to queue for the €3 ticket, which gives you access to the cathedral, the tower, and the bishop’s palace (which is currently closed for renovations -9.23). Before visiting, remind yourself to take some time with your phone and camera packed away to actually see and marvel at the beauty of the cathedral, it’s content and the stunning views which the tower has to offer.

A beautiful cathedral complex, with a lot to explore for the small (€3) entrance fee. The tiled cloisters are atmospheric and attractive, and the stairs (large but fairly even) up to the tower are well worth the effort for the amazing views over Porto and around. In the church itself, the high, narrow nave is plain and contrasts with the riotous decoration of the chancel. A side chapel includes an altarpiece made entirely of silver. An enjoyable and interesting place to visit.

Lovely cathedral in Porto, live structure with lots of tile arts!! Definitely climb to the top to get a panoramic view of Porto city! Tickets required to go in, but went on a weekday, no queue and it was very quick to get to the top. We also visited the Bishop quarter next to the cathedral too.

The Porto Cathedral is a must-see in Porto. You can see the famous blue tiles in several places throughout the city. Here you can see them beautifully deployed. The cathedral is a spectacular piece of architecture itself. There are multiple adjoining facilities and tours available which are very informative and inexpensive. See the surrounding streets as well, they are a delightful stroll.

A great place to visit! Either for enjoying the architecture or for spending some time in silence. The cathedral is quite large, plus it comes with the cloisters and gardens, so it's not very crowded - even when there are hoards of tourists outside! There's a lot to see inside - and for a decent entry price. Definitely worth a visit!

It costs 3 euros per adult to get in and frankly was expecting a lot more in terms of grandeur and opulence. The space behind the alter was being revamped and had been replaced with a large picture. Best part are the views from the top of the towers though you need to be prepared to do some climbing to see the views.

The Se Cathedral in Porto was really stunning architecturally and with regards to the Baroque gilded inlays and blue and white Azulejos (tiles). There are also really fantastic views from the square outside. We wish there had been a pamphlet or self-guided tour available (if there was one, we weren't made aware of it) to help give us a better idea of what we were looking at throughout the massive structure. Additionally, the main nave in one of the side chapels had a really strong foul odor that made it difficult to enjoy the experience in that particular chapel. Overall, still worth a visit.

Porto Cathedral, the Sé, did not fascinate me for the interior but for its dominant position over the city, on the Douro river, on the large terraced churchyard that offers wonderful views of the city. The visit of the Sé requires an entrance to the nearby archbishop's palace, which deserves to see the inner cloister with some walls covered with azulejos; the cathedral is austere, except for a few golden altars in Baroque style. Surely the climb to the towers satisfies the ticket because it offers wonderful and complete views of the historic centre of Porto

Note: admission helps preserve the property and its treasures. Located on the top of a hill this cathedral is one of the most impressive things Porto. It can get busy but I suggest you definitely make the track up to the top of the tower amazingly stunning views and also the bishop's quarters is very impressive as well some of the blue drawings and paintings are amazing the level of details just stunning and you won't regret it.

Iconic cathedral of Porto. Very beautiful interior and the 3 euro ticket includes trip to the tower. Beautiful blue colour tiles on the top floor en route to tower where you can take lovely pictures. The desks provide stamps for you if you have a booklet for it to be stamped.

It is simply a beauty of the city of Porto. You can visit inside, you can spend some time outside and check the river Ribeira from the top. You can walk from the narrow streets of Porto from Cathedral to the river. The architecture is amazing. It is simply beautiful and excellent. Don’t miss it.

A must when in Porto and well worth the €3 entry fee - a very interesting cathedral showing several different styles of architecture. Beautiful blue tiles, and some informative displays. The highlight is the view from the top of the tower, its a bit of a climb up a very steep staircase, but you can see almost all of Porto, the Douro and Gaia. A great way to see the city at the start of a trip to Porto!

Incredible city to visit!! Had the opportunity to see the Porto Cathedral while visiting. You need to experience a mass if your able. The acoustics inside are spectacular!! There was a mass going on and the organ filled the area with blissful sounds!! It’s a free entrance and wonderful way to see the past architecture of Porto.

Must do! Great place. Wonderful church interior and tiled walls everywhere. Also, pretty to look at from the outside at night. The plaza in front has a nice view, too. It gets a little windy here. Entrance is worth it, and the place is big enough inside, so you don't feel the number of people. The tower has very high irregular steps, and it's a little exhausting, but the view is nice. It's definitely worth a visit.

Just a small fees to go inside the building. You can feel this building somewhat back in how many decades. There are a lots of blue tiles in the ground floor as well upper floor. You can also enjoy the city view either from the outside of the building or go up inside the tower.

I went to the 11am mass on Sunday and it was a wonderful experience. Even though I haven’t attended mass in quite some time the muscle memory was there and the cultural experience was beautiful. Additionally, it is worth the couple of euros to tour the cathedral and you MUST climb to the top of the tower — the view is SPECTACULAR!

It was 11:40 AM, February 29th, 2024. An extremely unfriendly and rude lady at the reception. Without greeting or making eye contact, or asking which type of ticket we wanted, all she said was '6 Euro'. We said we would like two combined tickets. Then she said '12 Euro' and put her hand out for money. She seemed very grumpy and somewhat angry. This really ruined our first impression and mood to see the inside. Hence, a low rating for this church. We were quite shocked how such a person can work at the ticket desk, especially in a church. The cloister was okay, although not impressive. It maintained many original features and looked great. The church was also beautiful and not overly elaborated or decorated.

This imposing structure is one of the must see tourist attractions in Porto. The original construction started in the Eleven Hundreds and the adjoining cloisters were added about three hundred years later. Obviously the Cathedral is the most important part of your visit but your ticket also allows you go to the top of the tower where you can get some great shots of Porto and the other side of the river. Be warned though, the stairs going to the top are a bit worn and uneven in places so if you’re not good with steps you can always take in the view from the large courtyard in front of the Cathedral which are nearly as good. Of interest is the Pillory in front of the Cathedral where according to legend criminals were hanged. While you’re here I would also recommend visiting the Stained Glass Museum which is behind the Cathedral and in front of the statue of a mounted warrior (Vimara Peres)

A must when visiting Porto. It's quite simple compared to other cathedrals in Europe, but still absolutely stunning. The tile work alone is worth the visit.

Also called "Se", the Cathedral is an impressive landmark of Porto, a great tourist site to visit, walk around it amd impress by its decorative style and also enter inside. It is also a starting point for the Caminho Portuguese up north towards Santiago De Compostella (yellow arrow) or the Fatima to the south (blue arrow).

(Translated by Google) A must-see, the Porto Cathedral (Sé de Oporto) is the most important religious building in this city full of beautiful churches decorated with Portuguese tiles. Located in the Batalha neighborhood, in the highest part of the city, it enjoys spectacular views of the Ribeira of Porto. Its origin dates back to the 12th century, when it began to be built according to the Romanesque style that prevailed in Europe at that time. Its sober external appearance, which looks more like a defensive construction than a religious temple, and the rose window on the façade are good examples of this and, due to its simplicity, it reminds us of its Roman origin. Later, in the 13th century, Gothic elements were incorporated into the complex: the cloister or the Chapel of San Juan Evangelista. It even has Baroque elements, such as the portal, the domes, the High Altar or the portico decorated with tiles. In front of the cathedral we have in the center of the square a column (pelourinho) like the ones that were used in the past to hang those executed. In reality, this column was never used to punish anyone, as it was installed in the mid-20th century solely for the purpose of "decoration."

(Translated by Google) It can be seen from any point of the city, and if you climb one of its towers, you can see amazing panoramic views. Built in the 12th century on the highest point of Porto. Its appearance may initially deceive you, because it looks like a fortress, and this gives it even more uniqueness. Since its construction and over time, it has undergone several changes, creating a mixture of architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque and Romanesque. There are also typical for Portugal linings with ceramic tiles in white and blue, which depict paintings with angels and flowers, and written sentences in Latin, and some of them tell through images of the life of St. The Virgin. The main altar is gilded and carved in the Portuguese Baroque style, and the multicolored marble is impressive. You will also see a chapel with a silver altar, which today houses the remains of the Maltese knight Joao Gordo. Do not miss the monastery, impressive with its interior decoration. In the courtyard of the cathedral can be seen the so-called pillar of shame - "pelurinho". The guilty Portuguese were once tied to him and punished with whips. On the other side is the bronze statue of Count Vimara Perez, dressed in horse armor. Opening hours are daily from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:00, the ticket costs 3 euros.

If you like churches. Then it's an important place to visit. Porto has a few churches, in which they are all very delightful. I have enjoyed visiting all these churches, cathedrals including this one.

Just another church. But it's on a hill and the scenic view beside it makes the trip worthy.

  • 5/5 Javier T. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing views. You have to walk this wonderful bridge.

  • 5/5 João C. 2 years ago on Google
For a symbolic entry fee, you can visit the main cathedral in Porto, which sits in a privileged position at the top a hill. If you manage to climb all the stairs up the tower, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city, Gaia and the Douro river.

Must visit when in Porto, it's worth £3. The altar is currently under restoration. The view from top of the tower is worth the climb. The closi ture is beautiful with art instalation.

A magnificent cathedral with beautiful tile walls and intricate carvings on the arches. The view from the top of tower is nice, where you can see the famous bridge and the river.

The outside is what it is but inside it is beautiful, great tiles and the conference-room has a beautiful sealing, stunning views tower. Be on time, tower is closing early at 17.45. Next door is the palace of the bishop, that is a very humble big palace.

Wow, Porto Cathedral is beautiful with Baroque architecture, Romanesque and Gothic elements. Construction began in 1110 and was finished in 1737. There are Portuguese tiles in some parts.

  • 5/5 Pietro T. 2 years ago on Google
The entrance fee is like 3 or 4 euros and you get to visit the cathedral, the cloister and the tower. It's a nice place, you can take good pictures, both for the view and the azulejos

Impressive cathedral located on Porto’s heights. The painstaking baroque architecture was astonishing, and the blend of stone and blue tiles gave the place an eerie feeling. We loved it !

  • 4/5 Selina Z. 1 year ago on Google
Not the most amazing cathedral I’ve seen, but one of the more interesting places we visited in the city. The blue tiles made it very unique and there are nice views, especially from the top of the tower. Worth a visit as there’s not much else to do in the city.

  • 5/5 Rebecca F. 1 year ago on Google
Well worth the €3 entry fee - a very interesting cathedral showing several different styles of architecture. Beautiful blue tiles, and some informative displays. The highlight is the view from the top of the tower, its a bit of a climb up a very steep staircase, but you can see almost all of Porto, the Douro and Gaia. A great way to see the city at the start of a trip to Porto!

interesting place to visit, climbed into the tower which served once as a light house. difficult to climb the stairs to the top if you are not agile or in a fit shape, just because the space is very narrow and plump persons cannot fit. stunning view from the top, you have explanations for the main buildings creating the skyline of Porto in all directions. i also enjoyed the exhibition and the track allowing the visitor to see the church from an unusual vantage point. Definitely to see!

Must visit in Porto… I especially love the square and terrace just in front of it… There is a peaceful ambience where street musicians play combined with the positive energy of the cathedral.. Good vibes all around.. ✨

Definitely you need to see inside of it. I really like there. The rooms, the tower, everything was beautiful. You can have such an amazing view photos. It's also located so central.

  • 5/5 MishManners 5 months ago on Google
Lovely and beautiful Cathedral. You can see the whole of Porto from here. Definitely worth climbing all the stairs to the top of the tower to get the full view. Stunning and love the history within too.

We came on a Friday afternoon, it was busy but not too crazy. It's a beautiful old church. Walking into the chapel itself was magical, from the floor to the incredibly ornate carving that covered the altar and ceilings. We went upstairs to the tower. The climb is not for the faint of heart but the view was worth it.

  • 5/5 ApokolipsUK 6 months ago on Google
Lovely cathedral with lots of history. Would recommend you review the staircase before you climb up to the tower as it's very steep and probably not suitable for those who struggle to walk/climb stairs. On the other hand, the view from the top over Porto is worth it!

  • 4/5 Robert D. 5 months ago on Google
Must visit when you’re in Porto. However being a Catholic I find it strange they I have to pay to visit this church. The 3€ was worth it considering you can go on top of the tower to see the full view of Porto. The church is a bit dusty but all in all a great visit.

  • 5/5 DigitalAmoeba 7 months ago on Google
Great impressive cathedral, cloister and a range of other rooms. It's also possible to climb the tower all the way to the top for a magnificent 360 degree view across Porto. Only €3 entry for just the Cathedral, or there's a combined ticket if you also want to see the Bishop's Palace next door. Amazing blue tile work contrasting with stonework

A large cathedral with plenty of history and some artifacts. It is not free to enter, but there is only one cost for the complete experience. Good architecture and preservation efforts, and it is still in full use.

Great place to visit. We went here when the sun was shining, better to use sun glasses. You will meet musicians singing with instruments such as guitar.

This site was just across from our hotel so it was easy to access. What a great example of religious architecture and rich ornamentation. We walked to the tower snd took some stunning shots.
