Wow, I didn’t expect my visit to Casa da Música to be this impressive and making me want to dig out more information about this place! Highly recommend booking a guided tour before your visit! Our guide - Alice (or a name very similar to Alice) was amazing and super knowledgeable! She is not only friendly but also very funny and shared a lot of interesting facts about Casa da Música. Another reason of why you may want to book a tour is that you will be taken to the restricted areas (like the VIP lounge where beautiful tiles lined the walls and the suspended bar where people celebrates during events). Touring through this place is definitely eye opening because you will then realize how much effort and thoughts the designers/architects have put in to make sure this place can function in multiple ways elegantly. I admire the amazing work they did and was inspired by the thoughtfulness of this place. Highly recommend!

Really awesome building. Recommended before 11 or 16 so you can enjoy a guide visit. Even without the visit, building and park all around is really nice to see. You can see a lot of kids doing skateboard, playing music or just enjoying life.

The famous building designed by Rem Koolhaas disappointed me when I went to a concert there. Unfortunately, the building is not as beautiful as it is portrayed in photographs; I thought it was a major architectural failure. There is no attention to detail, just a superficial mass. The interior design lacks guidance on where to go upon entry... The coldness of metal in the corridors... The metallic elements on the stage that do not harmonize with the rest of the concert hall... There were so many things that caught my eye, I couldn't believe it. Let's say some of these are aesthetic preferences. The most glaring example you notice upon entering is whether there is a store area or not is unclear. You can only glance at the products from a distance. It's so impractical. I especially invite Koolhass to spend five minutes in front of one of the toilets here. I saw two kids struggling to open that heavy and unnecessary toilet door! For example, a toilet door that someone needs to open for children, and one that people have to exert unnecessary force to open, is a great architectural failure in my opinion! The use of the area around the building is also far from what is presented in the photographs. I would say the skateboarders make good use of it, but they also complain about the meaningless indentations! :) I'll give it a slightly high rating because the staff were professional and courteous. Our concert experience was generally good. It's a place to go for the music, but don't expect much from the building.

Amazing experience! I saw Carmen performed by the Porto Symphony Orchestra, and it was truly beautiful. The theater is absolutely gorgeous with lots of natural light and comfortable velvet seats. If you can see a show here, definitely do it!

An architectural gem full of surprises. Each corner, surface and space serves a purpose / group of people. And of course, an enjoyable building to photograph. A much more tranquil place than I was anticipating; skaters providing the percussion for the dampened hum of the orchestra.

A wonderful building - must to see for modern architecture lovers. Unfortunately I was only in small part inside. You should reserve sightseeing with guide by internet one or more days earlier.

Best concert house in Porto! Ultra modern with several choices of halls for music performances. It also has many rehearsal rooms and a cool cafe where the artists and musicians meet. I highly recommend to come here and see a concert in this amazing building.

(Translated by Google) There are no words to describe this building, which is undoubtedly one of the biggest (if not biggest) architectural references in the entire city of Porto! A real breath of fresh air, in an area that has been losing momentum in the last few years. We didn’t come here for a concert, but the guided tour was very nice! It was a great experience to see all the hidden parts of the Casa da Música and the history behind it.

Caught a last minute symphony concert here. What a treat. Porto is lucky to have such a venue in the city. And prices were great compared to many other venues we have been to.

Worthy rich experience at one of the most sophisticated projects of OMA architecture. The project represents a concert house, where many concerts and other tourists tours take place. OMA Architects, and in particular Rem Koolhaas, have created a remarkable stunning landmark in Porto. Absolutely worthy to be further recommended and considered to be visited during your stay at port. Make sure to check whether the entire building is open for visitors or not because there are certain visiting times. The building represents a master piece for high architectural value. I would love to visit the project again! The reception staff were extremely rough and rigged to us, I wished they were more friendly, especially they expect visitors from around the world and they must give a good impression, as long the place represents a touristic attraction point.

One of the most impressive concert halls I've ever seen. I recommend visiting it with a guide - they will reveal all the secrets and provide you with rich knowledge. I plan to come back to this place and attend a concert there (I'm sure it will be impressive!)

Located in the Boavista area, this concert hall offers all types of music events: from classical to jazz, from fado to electronic music, from major international productions to more experimental projects. The rooftop restaurant has a terrace overlooking the city. All the staff are very professional and helpful.

The building has a singular shape, at first glance it looks like an isolated spaceship that landed in the large wavy travertine widening often used by skaters. It's a huge reinforced concrete shell, an outer casing that protects the interior, with several rooms for music. The structure was designed by Dutch archistar Rem Koolhaas who responded to the need to create a new hub of urban and social redevelopment in the area of the Rotunda de Boavista. The most important theatre rooms have large corrugated windows as the scene wall that allow sound and thermal insulation. If you visit Porto, in addition to the beautiful city centre, it is also worth this stop

The tour was okay, the place is very beautiful and has a lot of history behind its construction! Definitely built using natural light as a core focus. I also liked how every room has a clear focus behind it and is very unique between! Would recommend for the view you can get alone although the tour price is a bit much, 10€ pax

Such a cool and special place! Its modern architecture and size are terrific! It is a singular place either in Porto and in Portugal. Casa da música hosts many national and international concerts, with an affordable ticket price. It's definitely worthy the visit! There is also a cafeteria which you can and order from a single espresso to full meals as well! You can also use the tables to work with your laptop without having to spend a single coin. Casa da Música is a fantastic place!

Did a tour of the musical concert theatre, a very innovatively built neo architecture built by Rem Koolhaus, but with Portuguese elements and a fun music beat pedestrian experience inhouse, highly recommend the tour

If you have a few days to spare in Porto do yourself a favor and grab a show at casa d musica. It is only a few subway stops away from the old town and you can find great shows for less than 15 euros even orchestral concert. It’s small enough that there is no bad seat in the house. Also the cafe downstairs is open late if you are looking for something quick to eat. Soup salad sandwich beer coffee dessert. They have it all

Went for the guided tour which was a little underwhelming in my opinion. Not a lot was introduced besides the brief description of the architecture and also the sound proofing of the main concert hall. The tour was 1h for €10 and has no discount. It is free if one has the Porto card tho (I think). I would spend my time else where given that the location is inconvenient and the tour, uninteresting.

It is an amazing place. There was a very interesting event when we visited. Young people were playing piano at each corner of the building. And they were really talented. It was a very good experience to listen them. Thank you!

saw a concert there and was completely amazed and mesmerised by the beauty of the architecture everywhere in the building. warning: don’t arrive late. we arrived 3 minutes late and they didn’t let us in, just on the break and this happened to a lot of people in the audience

Very beautiful building with a minimalistic futuristic design . There are several exhibitions inside but i didnt get to see them . There is a cafe with a seating area where you can just relax and work and its a slating spot so there are some skaters and bikers around definitely worth a visit

In the beginning I was a bit skeptical about spending €12 for a visit in a concert hall. But, if you have the possibility, it turned out to be a very interesting experience. The building it’s quite particular, outside and inside and the guide did a very good job in explaining the idea behind it. Sadly, they don’t offer discount for students over 18 years old.

Beautiful area with beautiful music. Watched an hour symphony, and a tear was almost shed. You are not allowed to use your phones for pics, but hey, sometimes you can sneak one in.

  • 5/5 Dee F. 3 years ago on Google
First thing to note is the boldness of the architect and the caliber of civil engineering involved. You must walk around the building to really comprehend its magnitude and grandeur. Acoustically it is impeccable. The surrounding area equally offers good shopping and eateries no more than a five minute walk away.

(Translated by Google) Casa da Música was the first building in Portugal, built from scratch, exclusively dedicated to music. It was there that we attended a concert by the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, with the choir of the National Philharmonic of Saratov, playing CARMINA BURANA, by Carl Orff. Although already aware of the excellent sound quality, Sala Suggia, from Casa da Música, associated with the quality of the orchestra and the choir, provided us with an unforgettable night. Embora já prevenido para a excelente qualidade do som, a Sala Suggia, da Casa da Música, associada à qualidade da orquestra e do coro, proporcionou-nos uma noite inesquecível.

Rem Koolhaas! A fascinating white structure with two walls made completely from panes of curved glass. It has it's own metro stop in Boavista and is worth admiring inside and out for at least 30 minutes, though if you're a photographer you will be there longer. It is close to the roundabout with the war memorial to the victory in the Peninsular War. Continue in the same direction for the park with views over the Douro.

I have attended two concerts, so far, at this innovative venue. The architecture alone is truly inventive and made my visits well worthwhile. Additionally, they have a number of reasonably priced concert series with widely diversified programming. As it is a “house of music” I was most interested to learn about their programming and to hear how the venue works to enhance the experience of the concertgoer. With a very well managed and reasonably priced cafe on the ground/underground floor, at least two concert stages and lots of space for other activities it has a lot to offer. The aesthetics of the entire building, in and out are rather appealing, though not overwhelmingly so. The acoustics of both hall are excellent, though I feel that the largest hall is too large for the chamber music program (Bach keyboard concertos and a Mozart piano concerto) that I attended. 5 stars for originality, 5 stars for aesthetics, 5 stars for programming, 4 stars for acoustics. A solid “win” and definitely worth taking in a concert here while in town if you’re a music lover.

A great architecture place but that's to bad they were not open to tours. Outside they showld be a warning sign of no responsibility from the house of music in cases the skate board kids may get injury. The city of Porto may have to pay thousands of euros in case of damages/accidents.
