We came by car and drove into the hotel's parking house. Outside it was raining cats and dogs. After we were told that hotel guests have to pay 12 Euros per hour we prefered to park outside and become really wet. Bad price policy for hotel guests...

Room was good but location is very far from anywhere worth going. Breakfast room was a disaster! Line up for coffee every morning 20 people deep! Get rid of the nescafe machines they're not working for the crowds!

Had a very enjoyable 2 night stay here recently. Rooms were large and modern with plenty of marble in the spacious bathroom. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Located within a short walk of El Corte Ingles Shopping Centre and nearby metro stop meaning it was very convenient. Also located nearby mainline train station. I enjoyed having a few beers in the bar watching football on TV with friendly guests.

I don’t often write negative reviews if I can help it, but this place deserves one. Stayed at Holiday Inn Porto Gaia after having an EasyJet flight cancelled (the airline helped to book our rooms). Although our room was pleasant and clean, we were disappointed with the service staff throughout our stay. This is the worst service we've ever encountered with any hotel, as we had poor service from (1) reception/front-counter staff, and (2) restaurant/bar staff on multiple occasions. The front counter staff were generally unpleasant (i.e. visibly and audibly eager to get away from the conversation) and gave conflicting instructions in person/over the phone multiple times. For example, the staff who checked us in told us that we were confirmed 2 nights’ stay, while another later said the second night was only a maybe. Even arrangements for dinner (regarding venue, timing etc) were wrongly communicated multiple times. Granted, we understand the uncertainty involved with bookings caused by airline disruptions, but these confusions could have been mitigated by clearer communication between staff. At the very least, the staff should not have made false representations to us on matters they were unsure about. Restaurant/bar staff were also unpleasant. When we asked one of the bar staff for the coffee menu, he asked us to wait and went off to serve someone else, and then idled about on the other end of the bar. We waited for a good few minutes before another staff saw us waiting and brought out the menu from under the bar right in front of us. Restaurant staff also took ages to bring us the menu despite the sparse 4pm crowd. After so many unpleasant interactions with staff, we dreaded interacting with the staff and grew weary of having our politeness be met with their appalling rudeness.

I stayed here in a suite for 7 nights, if you’re going for work i don’t recommend this hotel because they have the worst internet I’ve ever seen. The room is kinda old. However, the reception is nice and the staff are friendly.

The room was dirty when we checked in. It was not cleaned the second day because we stupidly agreed to the “Green” policy (we agreed during check-in, when we hadn’t seen how dirty the room was yet). But the most amazing thing happened the third day. We returned after a long day touring around at around 17:00. The room hadn’t been cleaned yet. When we asked the receptionist about it she replied that maybe they don’t have time to clean it anymore because it’s a big hotel and now they’re finishing work. Can you imagine it? We paid 150€ per night and it’s not granted that they will clean our room ever! Of course we don’t want them to work overtime for us. But why didn’t they clean it between 09:00 and 17:00 that we were away?!? And what an audacity to reply “it’s a big hotel” (!!) with not even some apology!!!

Only Hotel for me In Porto! I have had the most amazing stay in this hotel. The hotel is beautiful and the team are amazing! Clearly this is a hotel that looks after their team as the entire team were very acommodating and were always going the extra mile to ensure the stay in perfect! I would like to mention Marta who had done the most perfect check in and had remembered me by name throughout the stay. Maria in F&B who very knowledgeable about the menu but had a true helpful and friendly attitude. And I would like to mention Silvana who was working at the bar. Her service and attention to her guests were excellent! Definitely if I do come back to Porto I am staying here!! In regards to tourist attractions. The center of Porto is about 30mins away on foot where you will find all the major attractions right next to you.

Thank you for making our stay so very pleasant. From the beginning with Rita checking us in and every morning the wonderful smiles of Marta and many others. The accomodations were great, but the staff were exemplary. We wish you all the best, and again, THANK YOU!

Perfect Hotel to stay in Porto if you are flying. Stayed there for over two weeks for work, everything was perfect. The hotel is very clean, the staff really nice. The shuttle company works perfectly with the hotel. Food is also very nice and fresh. The gym good be better, but do the job. A nice mall with plenty of restaurants is a 10 min walking distance, and you have different groceries shops and cafes at a 5 min walking distance Totally recommend it

Greeted with a smashing upgraded room As a diamond member, we have stayed at over 70 hotel rooms each year over the last 10 years, so we have experienced both good and bad. Today was the worst experience we have ever received. At breakfast, my wife was challenged for taking some leftovers as we don't like to waste any food. An unannounced small gentleman then came to remonstrate with us like naughty school children at the end of our meal, leaving degraded and upset. This has ruined our experience of this hotel and, unfortunately, of Porto and ruined our stay. I hope you are happy with your breakfast team and the leftovers go to good use in future.

My recent stay at Holiday Inn Express Porto Gaia surpassed all expectations, thanks in large part to the breathtaking view of Porto and the magnificent Ponte Luís I bridge from my window. Waking up to the panoramic vista of Porto was a true feast for the eyes. The city's vibrant colors, charming architecture, and the iconic Ponte Luís I created a picturesque scene that I will forever cherish. It was truly a treat to witness the hustle and bustle of the city, the flow of the Douro River, and the bridge's grandeur from the comfort of my room. In addition to the captivating view, the hotel itself exceeded my expectations. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to assist and provide valuable insights about the local area. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, ensuring a pleasant and relaxing stay. The location of the hotel was ideal, allowing for easy access to Porto's attractions and landmarks. Whether I was exploring the historic Ribeira district or embarking on a boat tour along the Douro River, I always found myself eagerly anticipating my return to the hotel and its panoramic view. I wholeheartedly recommend Holiday Inn Express Porto Gaia to anyone seeking a memorable stay in Porto. The combination of the incredible view, attentive staff, and convenient location makes it a top-notch choice. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you, Holiday Inn Express Porto Gaia, for an unforgettable experience.

stayed in a river view suite on the 17th floor - perk for being a platinum member (complimentary upgrade). I arrived early around 830am but the room wasn’t available until about noon. the staff were friendly for the most part and pretty helpful when we needed directions/recommendations. the housekeeping staff would clean everyday and at times the sink strainer was left unscrewed in the sink for some reason. One day we came back and the sink was blocked and filled with brown water. Another day I realized a towel I was using had disgusting huge brown marks on it (not sure how this was folded and put back for distribution). On our second last morning I was in bed and got a bug bite and on our last night there was an insect crawling on the bed that we had to kill. We went down to inform the staff of our issues during our stay and the lady just looked at us and asked why we didn’t report it earlier I really don’t even think she apologized. An email received from the hotel later (post survey) was just an apology but nothing was really done as far as compensation. I will say on the positive the room was quite large and had amazing views of the ocean and the river. the location was a bit far from Porto however you can Uber for a decent amount into the city or take the train which we did a few times. although it was far, we felt safe walking back to the hotel from porto/the train. the only other negative for this particular room was that there wasn’t a light in the shower area, only in the bathroom so it was pretty dark while you were bathing.

Attended a conference and was unable to book the conference hotel. I was never so happy to be in an overflow hotel. The front desk people were the best. They offered excellent advice about everything from transportation to dining options. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The free breakfast every morning was extensive and easy to do before walking or taking an Über to the conference. I would happily book this hotel again.

They upgraded us as a platinum member with a phantastic view over the river and most of the city. The hotel seems the highest of the whole city.

Modern comfortable hotel in Gaia. Big rooms, quiet and resulted in a good nights sleep. Ten minutes walk to large supermarket and 20 minutes to the Port cellars (bit longer walking back as ii is uphill! There is a bus though) and 25 minutes into Porto. Lots of public transport options if you want to go faster.

Stayed here Mar 2023. About 25 mins by Uber from the airport. Great friendly checkin staff. Got upgraded to a suite with a view of the river. Nice lobby bar with TVs showing games. Did not eat at the restaurant. Breakfast is Eur16/person with a decent selection incl a omelet station. Uber to the main part of Porto is approx Eur6. You can walk to the port lodges which are about 15 mins away. The hotel in a residential/commercial area so there are no restaurants/bars in the immediate area. Overall great stay with the best part being the staff.

Large room with lots of space and great view. Although it needs a restyling it's still looking in a reasonable shape. Very professional and friendly staff helping you feel at home. Nice breakfast.

Official complaint. Internet is mostly slow if not reachable at all from the rooms at most times. The issue was reported multiple times to the reception but a standard answer was given that they are doing their best. So no actions to solve the problem were ever taken if not to stop the customer complaint verbally. This is definitely not how you expect a 4 star hotel to solve the issue.

Really enjoyed staying here. The front desk folks working in the afternoon and the evening greeted us every day by name when we headed out and came back. Because of our status with IHG were generous enough to upgrade us to a two floor, two bedroom suite. The first night we came back for the day, they even left some dessert in our room! Classic example of great hospitality, especially from a holiday inn.

Staff was very kind and helpful. Rooms as spacious. The hotel offers good price to value if you are visiting Porto. Walking to the historic part of Porto is about 30 minutes. The hotel offers very good breakfast. Good selection of food. Everybody will find something suitable.

We went for a 4-day stay in Porto and one of our most beautiful experiences was our stay. Great view, in a lovely room. The staff was very friendly and polite, while breakfast and dinner had absolutely nothing to envy from the 5-star hotel! If you visit Porto, it should be one of your top choices. The best value for money!

I stayed for 4 nights on a business trip. The staff at reception were super cool and trying to help you. I strongly recommend staying here for a budget and decent place. It is just 20 min walkway from major city attractions or 10 min bus.

25°C (77°F) in my room, airconditioner does not work, nobody to fix it, windows cannot open. No iron in the room 🤷‍♂️ How am I supposed to iron my clothing?

The room was not only comfortable but also impeccably clean and well-maintained. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the room, from the cozy bed to the modern amenities. I truly felt like I was in a home away from home. fantastic hotel.
