If you would like to perch next to the infinity pool and pose for photos, this is a perfect stop along the way to a different hotel. Let's be clear: this is not a 5* hotel. The royal valley blah blah blah is more akin to a Hampton Inn and Suites suffering from water damage and creepy sanitarium vibes. This is a three star hotel with a great view and an absolutely terrible restaurant. Breakfast: decent. Lunch: hard to find. Dinner: terrible. Dessert: fine. Wine selections: good. General service: non existent / bad / inconsiderate. The rooms: nice view, hard bed, shower falling apart. The spa service: good! The spa amenities: basic. The view: excellent!! The pool: cute!

It's not a perfect 5 star hotel. There were several issues with the WiFi, room telephone and even their main direct telephone contact. The rooms are big and with a perfect view however I would rate the interior as a 4 star hotel not a 5 star. Great breakfast. Excellent spa

Hotel with great location and splendid view/landscape… however, with many negative points: 1- its design doesn’t fit in the landscape (it looks like a nuclear center industry, not an hotel; 2- At the reception they have drinks (water, juices, wine), but there is some neglect, as when we were there, the jug of orange juice had mosquitoes in it; 3- the staff are not friendly; 4- some structures were dilapidated; 5- Long corridors, no pictures on the wall -> they look like a monastery 6- no careful landscaping, instead of grass, the space around has weeds and reeds... so disappointing!!!!

I came to this hotel for a conference. I have celiac disease and am very sensitive to gluten. I contacted the hotel ahead of time to see if they could accomodate me, checked again with the reception, and checked a third time with the kitchen before eating. The chef put soya sauce in my food on the second day (which contains gluten). I'm not a confrontational person, I know mistakes happen, but this gives me several days of pain and nausea, messes up my sleep, and prevents me from being able to have most foods or drink while I wait for my intestinal inflammation to calm down, so it really ruins my trip. I told the front desk what happened and asked them if they could at least give me a separate room so I don't keep my partner awake all night, but they told me that they both don't have rooms available AND their system is down... While I can go on their website and reserve one. The receptionist said he would keep looking and let me know but didn't bother to get my name or room number so clearly was just trying to get rid of me. Really irresponsible, frustrating, and much worse service than I'd expect from a 5 star hotel.

I stayed here 1 night for a relaxing day and it was great. The outdoor pool has an amazing view that looks better in person. The spa was also good but the whirlpool wasn't very hot. They had a steam and sauna room that made up for it tho. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner and all meals were good along with service. The carpets in the hallway did have a few stains but other than that the hotel was in great shape. This is perfect for a weekend stay to relax. There is not a lot to do around the area. This is on the train route, so easy to get to from Porto.

5 stars really? The hotel management shouldn’t focus only on the infinite pool and the great view on Douro river. The bedrooms are beautiful with amazing view and very clean nothing to say about it. Congrats to the cleaning ladies. But the global service is absolutely terrible, you always have the feeling to ask for the impossible for simple things: - AquaBar: complete de-organization with the service with the waiters. They turn around but don’t come to serve you. Not professional at all for a “5 stars”. 30 minutes to get one limonade and one beer come on… Tried for two days but same result every time. 15€ for a poor gnocchis soup is a bit exaggerated. - Indoor pool: you’re requested to have a swimming cap, if you don’t have one you’re asked to buy one 6,5€… but not need to have one in the other pool… also the doors from the indoor pool are closed to have direct access to the terrace. Asked to open it but they refused due to A/C (I checked and it was turned off in this room) but no issues to have others doors opened… - Breakfast: when you check in you’re asked to book in advance an hour when you want to have breakfast, honestly never saw it in my travelling life. Like any hotel in the world you should simply come for breakfast whenever you want between the service hours. - Royal Spa: Like I do in any spa hotel I try one massage but honestly I was very disappointed about the results. I am fine to pay the price 58€ for 30min feet massage but not for this quality. - Swimming pool parasol: as soon as you have wind they immediately close all of them. Not nice at all knowing that you have wind everyday in the valley and the sun of course is shining. And as I mentioned above the access to the indoor pool is closed from the terrace so you always have walk around. Conclusion: impressed about the view from the room and the pool but for a “5-stars” hotel which is supposed to be the highest rate for hotel, sorry to say but there a few things to improve.

Well, as a mother I was disappointed knowing that my 5-year-old son couldn't visit all facilities of this "family" hotel with me, which I wasn't told in advance... Moreover, the food at the restaurant wasn't worth a penny. I can only recommend the view from this hotel, the rest has still to be improved to be called 5-star.

“A big block of concrete in front of a great view” “An impressive swimming pool” “The absolutely worst restaurant ever” For sure not a 5 star hotel, could be a 3 plus or even a flat 4 star hotel. Swimming pool is really impressive. Amazing view. Overall 3 star rating. Internet not working in all rooms. But let’s talk about the restaurant: Overpriced! Food pretending to be Michelin without any soul, signature or flavors. Wine list: supermarket basic list. Personal: had no clue what they were doing a total disaster. A sommelier that had no clue that Quinta do Crasto Vinhas Velhas is a red wine from Douro! Pour the wine like serving Diet Coke, half litter per glass… a total joke. Bread was tuff old Leitao was burned hard Bacalao: no taste, not a single layer fell apart. Octopus: ok Desserts save the night. Total for 3 persons: 225 euro too expensive. A nonsense for Portugal! In fact we totally regret to book this hotel… many stupid things are going on here… You need to take 2 different elevators to reach lobby-pool-rooms… Spa is like a sports club bathroom…and prepare the Wallet to pay for a couples retreat…!! Come on!! Never again…

I'll start with the positive the views are stunning and the outdoor pool in the warmer months would be amazing. The decor and amenities of the room are very nice and newly done. Aside from that the hotel is really disappointing. It is really bare and lacks any personality or colour it feels like an empty museum. The staff were pleasant enough just not very attentive. The buffet breakfast was decent. The dinner was overpriced and very average but there are not many resturants locally to eat at so you are stuck. The bar food was also very average.

As everyone else has stated this isn't a perfect 5 star hotels. There are little imperfections in the rooms and around the hotel. Although the views at the pool and in our room were absolutely stunning. We also got the Douro Royal Experience which includes a dinner, a boat ride and a wine tour. The wine tour was one of the best I've ever been on as it was with a 8th generation wine maker at the original home. Very cool experience and would recommend to anyone. The free breakfast was a very good and tasty spread. The dinner was good not great. Overall I would say it was a great experience.

Nestled alongside the picturesque Duro River, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat for those seeking a relaxing getaway. While the hotel may appear a little dated in some areas, its exceptional views and outstanding amenities make up for it. Undoubtedly, the highlight of this hotel is its mesmerizing views of the Duro River. The breakfast experience here is an absolute delight. With a wide variety of choices, from fresh fruits and pastries to hot and savory dishes, there is something to satisfy every palate. For those looking to indulge their taste buds further, the on-site restaurant for dinner does not disappoint. Serving delectable dishes with exceptional service, it is a culinary experience worth savoring. The attentive staff members go above and beyond to ensure your dining experience is memorable, leaving you fully satisfied. The pools and spa within the premises adds a touch of luxury and relaxation to your stay. The amenities provided are well-maintained, and the hotel staff ensures that your comfort is taken care of..

I had the change to stay for 1 night to celebrate my birthday! I had the best time since I came back to Portugal. The staff made the experience even more special. Starting from the receptionist at check in, to the receptionist at the spa, to the pool team, the level of detail was 5 starts. I would definitely come back and recommend the hotel to all friends & family. A big thanks to the all the team and congratulations to the management team also.

The location is beautiful. Amazing views on the 6th floor rooms, with a small private garden. Excellent for letting go of fast paced daily life. The spa is good albeit with small areas for the amount of people that can be hosted at the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Not a 5-star hotel! Staff is friendly, view is amazing and the pool itself is very nice. However, although there is a childrens pool the hotel allows them to swim everywhere which changes the mood to family getaway rather than any “spa” feeling. They allow outside guests such as “hen parties” to use the pool all day and unfortunate for guests there are not enough lounge chairs so guests couldn’t enjoy pool. Not to mention the group selfies these groups love to do irrespective of the nuisance to guests. All facilities are dated, the “gym” is the worse hotel gym I’ve been too. There literally are only two short metal pipes that you have to fasten small round weights to. No long bar except for the one you hang to a very dated weight machine. Half the cardio doesn’t work properly. Food is okay nothing to really talk about. The suite we had was nice but when I asked front desk if they had small mills for the coffee and tea they said the room didn’t come it them. Not very helpful. Actually I asked about a festival and cultural things in area based on a brochure they had in lobby and front desk wasn’t aware and tried to tell me that the event had past. I should them the brochure that had dated and they googled it and said “you are right”. But didn’t know much about it. Breakfast was good but made to order was not. The hotel is good for families but not for those looking for a special hotel relaxing among like minded guests. Definitely a 4-star which isn’t bad, just not our expectations or preference.

We are a couple that stayed here two nights. The hotel is very nice and the staff is kind. One thing I must say - the air conditioner is very noisy in a manner that bothers sleeping. In the hot days of summer I don’t think you can sleep with the air conditioner turned off, therefore it might be a deal breaker. We asked the desk about it and they said the air conditioner in all the rooms makes these kind of noise (which is surprising), we stayed in room number 302.

We are easy guests. We loved our room. We liked the cleanliness. Loved the view and the infinity pool. Our room has breakfast included. The breakfast was good. We also tried to go to the same restaurant for dinner and it was also a good experience. Loved the food presentation. Their bar was cozy, where you can also play pool. It is indeed a 5-star hotel. Very calming place. The hotel is not crowded as well. Staff were friendly. Service is fast. Loved the overall experience. I strongly recommend this hotel if you’re going to visit Douro.

Spent some days of my honeymoon there and it was amazing! Difficult drive to get to the place but it really worths it! The views, the panoramic pool, the spa and the restaurant.

I would not classify this as a 5* experience tbh. The treatments were nice but average. I intended to have a meal afterwards, which was not possible because the restaurants were both closed. The receptionist was not very friendly or accommodating in my requests.

The access is not the best, the room was better without any rust... About the service is great during the day but by the dinner it stuck with amount of people. The hotel is designed for x people but the service cannot reach that unfortunately... The view from the outside pool it's amazing 👏

Out of the way and ideal to spend a relaxed weekend. You have a train station nearby but it is nearly 2 hours by train from Porto. By car, I don't advise anyone who is easily car sick. Don't expect to do much around if you don't have a car. I'll come back.
