Bridge House is set amidst beautiful riverside gardens. It is a convalescent centre, offering day trips out and evening entertainment. If you book a Premier room overlooking the gardens you will be thrilled by its spaciousness. Nearly all rooms are twin. The meals are excellent, with choices and accommodation is full board. There is a bar in the main lounge. By arrangement, they will collect you from Dawlish station in their minibus. Staff carry your cases to your room.

After one of the worst of my summers in living memory, I was lucky enough to be accepted to have a week convalescing in the out-of-the-way Dawlish. If anyone else has the opportunity, I can't recommend it enough. It has been everything needed. The Duty Manager looks after guests very well. The room I had was large and very ample, with a nice shower room with a sit-down seat therein. The gardens are kept beautifully, with fish in a closed-off pond, benches throughout, different trees and plants, wonderful awnings and two Japanese-style bridges. Over 48 hours, I met a dog (Buck - the groundskeeper's black lab, he's lovely), a cat, two pheasants, squirrels, and many different little birds I've never seen in a town before! I found walking there every morning very stimulating. Nearby is a lovely church and its churchyard to walk through as well, and it took me fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace to get to The Strand, the main lot of shops before you reach the seafront. The hotel itself is all anyone could need to recover fully from ailments in tranquility - nurses on hand day and night, a very conscientious and adaptive service in the restaurant (they can't do enough for you) and every single meal was delicious. I don't eat red meat and have problems with Gluten, but I never went without! I brought along some of my own acceptable flour and had bread and butter pudding etc. made for me fresh. I didn't feel able to go on the trips, but I was informed they were very good too. I was the youngest person there by possibly 20 years, but everyone is friendly and kind. You sit with other people at mealtimes so that you don't feel alone, especially if, like me, you have come by yourself. Everyone working there has a wonderful disposition and does their best at all times. WiFi was good and a lot of channels. Reading materials on every floor and the lounges to just sit and chat or read or play Rummikub, were lovely and peaceful. There was even a therapist who was really very good and who I had a session with - he is one of the best I have ever had the fortune of working with! He provides Reiki, massage etc. and did a follow up after my session. I recommend that as well as an extra. They really do look after you at this place, and it doesn't seem to matter what you're getting over. There was a lady with Parkinson's, gentleman needing constant oxygen and a gentleman (with his wife) getting over a recent knee operation while I was there; but they approved me for my anxiety issues, traumas and recent grief and I'm o pleased that they did, as this was everything I could have needed or asked for. In the nicest possible way, I hope to never use them again(!) but if I ever were to get so bad again, I would be delighted to return.

WOW a fantastic place, it's the last manor house that belonged to the railway & convalescent home, now it's run like a hotel, so friendly/helpful, all inclusive, roughly Β£368, Tues to Tues. no children, if your in something similar to the transport benevolent fund & let's say you've had an opporation you ring the company up & let them know & could you be sent to bridge house along with partner, so long as your dr signs the form you'll get sent it doesn't cost you a penny as the trust fund pay, it can be 1 wk you usually get 2 wk offered, FREE, you pay for fuel or train to get down to Dawlish in Devon. You won't be disappointed, the meals are great 3 course breakfast, 2/3 course lunch & 3 course eve meal, some entertainment is on, so if you work in any part of the transport industry & pay into a similar fund give it a try.

Gardens are amazing. The brook runs through. See dippers and occasionally kingfishers. People staying for holidays say it's nice to stay there and you can take walks through the grounds
